VinDiego Wine and Food Festival

I went to the 2015 festival and it was really great. Lots of wineries, a big open, our door space, a logo wine glass for all of your tastings. Really a fantastic time. The event is in Liberty Station so it is a little hike from downtown but definitely still Über or Lyft-​able. If you love wine and outdoor drinking festivals, definitely check out this annual event.

Do you dream of being able to wander around drinking your fill of wine on a beautiful Saturday afternoon? Yes? Well me too, and that is exactly why I’m a fan of Vin Diego.
The event was well organized and despite seeing a long line upon arrival, my friend and I were inside drinking wine in no time flat. The setup was basically food samples on the outside and rows upon glorious rows of wine on the inside.
You’re free to roam around the venue with your glass in hand trying whichever wine strikes your fancy. Although the pours are tasting sizes, you’re sure to get your fill. There were also done delectable food options to try, but given the booziness, you may want to plan on a meal before or after.
This is a fun adults only event that is sure to please. I’m definitely looking forward to the next one.

If you love lines and wine then this event is for you. The people who went here were pretty snooty. A lot of over privileged winos attended this event. But on the plus side I got to really hone in on my pallet and figure out my favorite types of blends. It was not worth the money.

«The wine Coachella for adults» said by many in line. I haven’t been to Coachella yet so I don’t know if this is true.
75 wineries all over the US and over 300 wines to taste, and I think about maybe 15+ restaurants, a live band that played great music, lots of water and a free logo glass. What a great day to spend my birthday as my last year in the 20s…
Venue: located in Liberty Station, even though it was packed I felt that there were so many options that you never had to wait more than 2 minutes to refill your wine. It was nicely spread out.
Food: I got to try Crazee burger– their kobe beef, ceviche, fig tree-​chicken and mash potatoes, spicy chili, spread on bread, city tacos-​who tuna tacos, fancy carrots, beef sandwich, a banh mi like sandwich, tomato soup, pork something (look at pics) but there were plenty of food options! My favorite was the ceviche and tuna tacos! The Crazee burger was good too. It was a good amount that will keep you drinking at a good buzz. They also had Hawaiian water everywhere and you got bread as you walked in.
Wines: I love all their selection of wines! I forgot a lot of my favorites but my most memorable were ZD and Alexandria. The petite Syrah tasted especially good that day. I also had some sparkling wine and there were some wineries from Temecula as well. Plentiful to drink, some booths were more generous then others.
Ambiance: definitely not «casual» as a lot of ladies were dressed up like they were actually going wine tasting in Napa. So dress up a bit at this event. The crowd wasn’t the «lets get wasted» but more of classy and mature crowd. Lots of beautiful people I must say.
This was a birthday gift so I loved it and totally thought it was worth it! If I had to pay for it myself I would probably try to find deals… But next year it’ll be a great event for a small group of friends!

I was fortunate enough to attend the first VinDiego last year at the Port Pavilion and was thoroughly impressed. Fast forward one year later and here we are at the 2^nd annual VinDiego, this time it was located in Liberty Station.
Was I equally, if not more impressed? Short answer: Yes!
This year it was moved to Liberty Station in Point Loma. Since I was a big fan of last years location, I wasn’t sure how relocating to a new event space would translate. Fortunately, my apprehension was dissolved once the details of the improvements emerged. Not only is the event space at the McMillin Event Center and Luce Courtyard a considerably larger area allowing for more freedom of movement and seating, but the number of wineries involved basically doubled and the number of food vendors seemed to increase significantly as well.
With 75 wineries it was pretty much impossible to indulge in every single one but with this myriad of wineries, your options sure weren’t limited. There were far, far too many to list. Regardless of your preference, there was definitely something for everybody. Just about each winery had a Rose, Red and a white and in most cases several of each. It could be far too easy to overindulge but with so many choices the temptation is definitely there. So with the provided VinDiego glass, you won’t have a difficult time keeping that glass filled with great wine.
Wines aside, VinDiego’s partnering with a multitude of food and product vendors that pair well with said wines, ensured that you couldn’t go thirsty nor hungry. A list of the food vendors and their offerings that I can recall are as follows:
Barleymash: Bacon wrapped duck skin and a some chips/​soft potato skins. (Probably my favorite)
Royal India: Rice/​food plate mixed with spicy or mild sauce. Very good.
Solterra: Paella. This was excellent.
Kitchen 1540: Shrimp & Grits. Simple but tasty.
Crazee Burger: Kangaroo Sliders & Angus Beef sliders. These were great.
RA Sushi: Serving «Las Vegas» Rolls. A delicious offering.
Sadie Rose Backing Company: Multi-​grain, brown malt, pretzel bread and ciabatta bites.
Bee Green: Vegan bites. A flatbread offering, a pasta mix and a couple others I can’t recall. Very good.
Jakes Del Mar: A tasty seafood cocktail.
Chef DK/​Artisan Café at the Moonlight Amphitheater: Hope I’m not mixing this one up, Korean beef mini tacos.
Way Better Snacks: Sriracha, sweet chili, sweet potato, multi-​grain, black bean as well as onion mustard chips.
Nothing Bundt Cakes: Red Velvet & Lemon cake bites.
Kuba Kreations: Matcha Green tea shortbread cookies, Chocolate Hazelnut mini cupcakes and lemon lavender cookies. All of these were outstanding.
Goufrais German Chocolate: Some of the richest chocolate I have tasted.
Suffice it to say, there was more than enough to eat and drink. You simply could not go wrong with the available choices.
The venue had an outstanding Spanish/​Latin acoustic band playing acoustic versions of classic and popular songs to serenade the crowd. I didn’t see a sign of for the name of the duo but saying that they were fantastic would be an understatement. It was the perfect sound to match this type of event. There was definitely a pleasant, positive energy being transferred to the crowd. An excellent musical choice to say the least.
With ubiquitous food and wine, a beautiful, spacious venue in combination with excellent music and not to mention supporting a great cause such as the Warrior Foundation, this is an over-​the-​top, outstanding event. There simply isn’t much of this type (locally) that can really compare. I thought it was good last year but with the improvements made this year in regards to space, additional food vendors and wineries, it really is something to be marveled.
The bottom line: If you are a wine aficionado, enthusiast or just a person who loves their wine, then this event is probably as close to a «Wine Utopia» as you are going to get.

This was my first time attending VinDiego, I missed the first year last year so I can’t compare the two, but I can honestly say that this was a well put on event over all! Great food, great wine, great music, and great venue! I plan to attend next years as well. If you love wine, you’ll love this event.

A lot of wineries represented and plenty to taste. The food being offered by vendors was also very good and unique. Checking in was disorganized… almost didn’t get in because the dude checking IDs just passed right by a group of us and when we got to the front of the line, we were told we hadn’t been checked. Seriously?! We followed the directions and had our IDs out. Anyway, someone who knew what they were doing were cool about it and checked our IDs as she put the wrist bands on.
VIPs got in at 3:00…and the rest of us riffraff got in at 4:00 :-)
I’d do this again next year if LivingSocial offers the deal. The deal was $ 55 and I wouldn’t have paid more than that. Lots of wines and other items for sale. I did buy a bottle of Lemon Avocado Oil, which was delish.

Truly the best wine festival I have been to across the country. Wines were fantastic. Food was flavorful, interesting, and plentiful. Hard to believe this was their second event. Recommend getting there early, the admission lines are lengthy… but was the only hiccup I noticed all day.

Bought tickets through living social (usually $ 95!). Loooots of wine to taste! I enjoyed talking to the actually winery employees that were pouring, there were some volunteers that were pouring but usually at least one person from winery. The food samples were excellent but try to get them early as the lines get really long later in the festival… I would certainly return assuming I got a good deal on the ticket…

Just bought my tickets for vindiego this year!
I went last year and it was seriously one of if not the funnest nights I have ever had in San Diego. The food was amazing, the wine was out of this world! I would recommend this event to any of my friends, family, and all winos.

It is hard to believe that this was the first time that VinDiego has thrown an event because to put is simply, it was stellar!
I have been to several events at the Broadway Pier, which seems to be becoming the best new venue to host festivals like VinDiego. There is lots of space and has indoor and outdoor capabilities with beautiful views of Coronado and passing cruise ships. Boy, it reaaaaaallly sucks to live in San Diego. **cough, cough. Sarcasm.
From the second you walked through the front doors of VinDiego there was stimulation of the senses. A woman holding a gigantic snake, aisle after aisle of tasting booths, great music and good food to round it all out. I was ready to take my free wine glass on a tour of the room and believe me, there was no shortage of options. The pours were generous and it seemed that every few booths there was a food option like a considerate mother reminding you that you need to eat a little something every once in a while. Nice touch!
Three hours proved to be the perfect amount of time for the event as you started to see middle aged women with wine stains on their fancy dresses and grown men stumbling with their shoes untied. Any longer could have been a disaster and the wineries and event coordinators timed the ending of the event perfectly. As the wine ran out, the event ended exactly on time. Flawless!
The cherry on the cake was that this benefited the Warrior’s Foundation who had staff keeping the place in order while their booth gained lots of attention for their cause. Will I be back next year? Absolutely!

Wonderful wines and food! Great people, music and venue! Definitely worth every penny. There is no question I’ll be there next year!

Great selections of California wine, nice selection of foods, cheese, oils/​vinegars, and even a cameo from Fiat. Hundreds of wineries. All types of selections (from rose to pinot to cabs) with most vendors doing more than a tasting — a veritable journey through california wines. Plus, great food on San Diego bay with a sunset? Yes, please.
Perhaps most importnat is that the event’s profits largely go to the Warrior’s Foundation (which aims to ease wounded marines’s transition back to civilian life). Most people were having such a good time they may have forgotten the reason they were there but the presence of our nations’ finest in the shadow of the USS Midway I think was a constant reminder of the reason we were celebrating and, frankly, could celebrate this evening. The auction at the end of the night was special — people bidding their highest to support our wounded veterans.
Glad to have this event in San DIego and I hope to see it continue.
