If just basing my rating on the food I would give it 4 stars. The horrible service is what keeps me from going here more often. I always over hear people letting the servers know their order wasn’t taken correctly(who serves French fries with pancakes?!). It takes 10 minutes of your appetizer sitting there to get a spoon or fork and plate, you usually have to sit there with empty plates in front of you before finally deciding to get up and yell through the window to the kitchen to get your check, and there’s always a good chance you will be «enjoying» your meal with a baby screaming in the kitchen. I’ve also showed up during their business hours to find a closed sign. The actual servers are nice but can’t handle more than 2 customers at a time. I usually order my food to go in an effort to avoid eating in the restaurant. I’m always told it will take 15 minutes but knowing better I always wait 25 minutes to show up, and still end up sitting there 10 – 15 minutes longer. I swear they wait until I actually show up to start making the food. Back to the food. If you can deal with the bad service I highly recommend the Thai«Chicken» Wrap, Panang Curry and Dumplings with curry sauce. The spring rolls aren’t the best I’ve had but not horrible either. If you like bland Tom Kar soup(like my boyfriend) the this is the place to go. They’re closing their doors February 28th, 2010 so if you want to try it out now is the time.

Came here with a vegan friend of mine after picking up some rave tickets down the street. Gotta say I wasn’t let down. Vegan fried chicken was delicious, and we got free spring rolls with our order off their website(im starting to love my iphone, finds me food then gives me free food) only thing wrong about this place was the door seems people can’t get in unless they turn the handle all the way down most people seemed to show up right when the server whent to the back and just waited till I opened it for them anyhow. cozy, good food(free food), bad door.

This was my first intro to a Vegan Restaurant and it got me hooked! Service — not so awesome, but honestly not horrible either. It gets 4 stars for that and the fact that they seem to close and open whenever they want to. I’ve been here several times for lunch only to be hit in the face with a ‘Closed’ sign. Other than that, I love the Kee Mow(spelling) and the Tom Kha here. My second favorite is the Katsu Bowl. I probably prefer Sipz because it’s closer, but this is a great place to go when you’re in the mood for something that seems a little more different. Tip: There are coupons available in the ‘About Us’ section of their website and they only deliver sometimes(depending on staff availability or how busy they are)

Vegan Zone is a very good restaurant for vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters alike! I’ve only tried one dish here(and only been twice), so I suppose I’m a little biased in my opinion. but I’ve tried enough of my friends’ dishes to know that there are many other yummy menu items as well. The spicy green bean rice dish I’ve had is delicious. The green beans and«chicken» have a lot of their spicy curry sauce incorporated into them, which is good and flavorful, but perhaps a little TOO spicy for my liking. The rice had a unique color and texture. I liked it. The décor of the place is very cool as well: a couple canvases and mirrors adorn the walls. Service was nice. 4 stars:)

Disclaimer Alert: I’m not vegan. I’m not even vegetarian… in fact I embody the complete opposite. I’d prefer we save plants rather than animals… I’m still reveling in my childlike habits of hiding the green peas under the mashed potatoes and gorging on only the fleshy goodness of meat… To be clear, I like vegans. In fact I really respect the dedication involved in the lifestyle… Back to the point. The service was slower than an alcoholic on their way to an AA meeting.(just realizing how many people I’ve inadvertently offended) but really… Super Slow, and well… there was only like 8 people in the joint?! The food was… well…vegan. Credit for the effort, but if I wanted steamed veggies covered in peanut butter, I’d stay home… cuddle up with my blender and a tub of skippy and go to town. It wasn’t anything worth repeating. 2 stars for the sweet décor. A nice urban chic, Thai style… although the 1998 buzz ballads cd didn’t really mesh as well as they intended. Our table broke out in song to KC and JoJo… which was easily the highlight… but we soon were left listening to Mariah Carey and lost our selves staring emptily into half eaten plates of tofu, soy, and mysteries abound. Bad reviews suck. I hate being a debbie downer. But i was hoping, being a non-vegan, this place could tally a point for the opposition. Oh well… now where’s my non soy, non tofu, beef jerky?!

If your friends are veggies, you’re bound to find yourself at this place. Vegan Zone is a relatively small restaurant located practically walking distance from all the bars in PB. Let’s just say this place ranks high in my list of veggie eats. The food presentation is definitely above par. And even if the food didn’t down right [yeah right], beer is only a block away. Anyhow, from my multiple visits, here are my impressions: Chicken Katsu: The«chicken» almost tastes like chicken. ha! Served with brown rice and coleslaw, I’d say this is a pretty good meal. Katsu usually is not my thing, but it was highly recommended by my peers and I did not regret the choice. Pad Thai: Pass. I forgot why. I’m picky, probably. Spicy Eggplant: Mixture of «chicken», eggplant, and various veggies. The sauce is sweet. The eggplant, just right, and overall, satisfying. I licked this plate clean. Generally speaking, this place will leave you satisfied without feeling bloated.

Love this place! Stay away from the Americanized menu and you’ll be fine. We had the pad thai and chicken with garlic sauce and both were very good. They lost a star cause the straw wrapper took 2 minutes to remove. Who does that to a straw? But the food is awesome and we will definitely be back!

I was excited to have a breakfast burrito, but they didn’t have any salsa. So, I ate my French fries, and took my burrito home, where I had salsa. Now I love salsa, so maybe this is kind of a silly review, but who serves breakfast burritos and doesn’t also have salsa available? To be fair, their focus does seem to be more Asian-oriented, and my friends’ meals(2 noodle dishes) were good, but if a place offers a burrito, you better have some salsa nearby.

Amazing Went here for the first time with a date. We ordered way too much food, and it all was great. Only complaint is I didnt care for the fake squid. But I think thats just a preference thing. Great food, good service, good prices. What a gem.

I went here on Saturday and Sunday cause I had a girly in town who happens to be a vegan. I was thoroughly impressed with the Bangkok Curry. Even though I’m not a vegan, I’ll probably go back to this place just for that curry dish. I also thought it was a trip to eat fake shrimp that have the same coloring, shape, and texture as real shrimp.

Everything was great. Service was a little slow but everyone’s allowed to have their off days. Absolutely loved the food. Only had a couple experiences with Vegan food so it totally blew me away when I ordered the chicken satay on how closely the textures of soy chicken and real chicken can compare. I got the panang curry extra spicy which was great as well. Would definitely come back here to try out the other items.

Random find… but exciting choice! i was wandering in PB with some friends and needed some food before my flight and this restaurant caught my eye. I’m pretty skeptic about most vegan/veggie places because they tend to compensate meat with MSG, Salt, fake meat that want to be meat and lots of artificial/bad-for-you additives :[ However, Vegan Zone it taste like food, just plain good food. it wasnt trying to become meat or something that it’s not. Had take out and walked to the beach to eat in the sun, which might not have been the best idea because of the sand. Altho it’s an option :)

update: really sad to see this place go. There are still good options for Vegan food in San Diego, though. Check out Sipz in Clairmont or Loving Hut in Mira Mesa. Looooooooooooooove Vegan Zone. I was a little bit apprehensive when I went for the first time, but that all went away when I tried the food. Thai Iced Tea… good. Black pepper burger… good. Fries… good. I honestly haven’t tried anything here that I don’t like. The one criticism I give to this place(and I aim to do so constructively) is the name. C’mon… Vegan Zone? Really? I have actually had friends who did not want to go with me simply by mentioning the name. «Oh, vegan-only? No thanks.» The said thing is that I know they would really like the place if they tried it. Oh yeah, the seafood curry is damn good too.

I’ll admit, I had to get over the cheesy name first. This place is really good– but I’d say stick to the Thai/Asian menu. My vegan buddy got a burrito here(I don’t know why) and it definitely was not as good. Drunk noodles are wonderful, as is the Massuman curry. The other curries are also really tasty. Pad Thai = yum. Definitely get some Thai Iced Tea unless you have diabetes. Medium price range for everything. good service and worth it, especially when out with your vegan/veggie friends. As a meat eater I really enjoy this place. so that says something, right? Park in the IHOP or elsewhere. otherwise you are just going to get annoyed and very frustrated.

Very nice when its not busy, the spicy noodles were seriously spicy too spicy for me anyways, their avacado pancakes are fried perfectly. I wish they had fresh fruit available on the side, it just seems natural that a healthy place should offer fresh fruit. Their thai iced tea was good though I wish it was a bit bigger and with more soy milk. If I was hungrier I would have ordered a lot more, oh well save it for next time.

Vegan zone is delicious. My favorite is being able to order a full on Vegan breakfast. The service is great, the people there are really nice. It’s never been too packed when I’ve been there, never had to wait for a seat. GREATDRINKS: The Thai iced tea is delicious! YUMMYFOOD: pancakes, breakfast burrito, scrambled tofu with sausage, pineapple burger, PB sandwich(terrific fake fish and sauce), fried wontons, rice baked mushroom(delicious brown rice dish with fake chicken veggies and pineapple) NOTSOGREAT: Pad Thai… for some reason the time I tried it, it was pretty bland, so enjoy other menu items. DESSERT: a little lacking, the sorbets are good though. PARKING: they give you validation that allows you to park directly next door, ask for a parking validation ticket.

Trust me on this one: Order the«Fruity Curry»(although doing so requires you to rap«I love fruity curry in a major way» like this: ) It’s totally weird and totally delicious — a yellow coconut curry with apples, bananas, potatoes, some other stuff. It’s just good and weird and awesome. The cream cheese wontons are a highlight as well, and if you’re feeling like throwing down some $$, get the chicken satay too(fake chicken, of course) Though do yourself a favor and bring some dental floss for afterwards. PB is a pain in the butt to get to, but we venture here once a month or so cause the food is so good. It can be hard to find for out of towners, just remember: it’s next to China Inn. The service can be good but I’ve seen it bad too — just go for the fruity curry, and love it in a major way.

My first date since the big breakup of April ’07. Wow. What a great day. The food was great… I tried chunks of tofu for the first time which were not so great, but that is not by fault of this eatery. That’s tofu for yeh. My date(giggle) had a black bean burger and he said it was delicious though usually he likes to get the pineapple burger. Whoever thought food without, well, ANYthing we have come to rely for flavorfulness could be so tasty? The hostess brought me a fresh napkin immediately when mine dropped on the ground. Nice. And she gave one to him too when it was obvious he needed another one. Not the restaurant’s fault, but we probably won’t be hanging out again in a date setting, just in case you were wondering. Would I go here again next time while in P.B. Yes!

yummy yum yum… Vegan Zone is Vegan heaven. My favorites: — the lentil burrito! damm it’s good! — pancakes! they’re thin and kinda crispy on the edges… and finding vegan pancakes. let alone GOOD vegan pancakes is hard. — Thai ice tea w/soy(of course) — The Garden tofu scramble… — veggie soup. has big chunks of tofu and is so good. — the cream cheese wontons. as a vegan who misses eating those, they really made me happy. — and more. I haven’t tried it all yet. the wait staff is always sweet, nice atmosphere, all the goodies. The only downside is that they serve french fries with their breakfast food… very odd. But, they will happily sub hashbrowns if you ask. And yeah, it’s a little pricey… but hey, that organic ketchup is expensive!

I have seen the light! This place is amazing. Here’s a list of happy thoughts: –Cute décor, super laid back and soothing. –Sate appetizer: yummy peanut sauce and awesome texture –Fresh Summer rolls: exactly what it sounds like. –Pepper steak Burger: Good, but not as awesome as everything else we had –Red Sea Roll: Tastes like real seafood! –Frutti something or other curry: This is a dish that takes a bout 1.5 bites to get used to, then it becomes super delicious. –incredibly nice people who work here This is a great place for people who are afraid of vegan food because it tastes and almost feels like real meat. WOOHOO!
