VCA Eye Clinic for Animals

Two of my boxers have been treated by Dr Schorling. One had a standard case involving corneal ulcers. Both eyes were eventually treated. The second had a melting corneal ulcer. Super scary stuff.
I would not hesitate to have Dr Schorling treat my youngest boxer. It’s just a matter of time.

My Charlie is an old but active kitty who developed entropion in his left eye. For months he walked around my home with a squinted eye because so much hair was always in his eye due to the inverted eyelid. I was torn about both spending a large amount of money and putting him through surgery to repair it. Turns out that the cost was so much LESS than I expected and now that his cone is removed, he is the happiest cat! It was worth every penny to make his quality of life as good as it can be. I want to thank each of the staff members for treating both Charlie and I with kindness and respect. You made my kitty very happy and a happy kitty makes me happy! Thank you!

You never plan on these problems arising but when they do VCA Eye Clinic has always taken the best care of my boy. He’s a boxer and they have a lot experience with these types of breeds. He’s had 2 surgeries here. The procedures are quick, reasonably priced and he’s healed immaculately. Thank you to the entire staff at VCA!

After excessive tearing, I thought it was time for a visit to the veterinarian. With a history of eye problems, you would think I should know better than to go to a regular vet… but I made the mistake before ending up here.
When I called, Carrie was super nice on the phone and got an appointment for me that was convenient. I joked with her that Louis could be a greeter to work off his fees. I informed her I had been seen at the regular VCA in El Cajon, so she contacted them to obtain his records from the prior surgery and what they had prescribed in an attempt to cure his problem. When I arrived for our appointment with Dr. Schorling, Carrie came in to meet us and gave me a hug. After having to call corporate about an unprofessional incident at El Cajon, this facility recommitted me to the VCA family based on the service that started in Los Angeles.
Dr. Schorling talked to Louis in an animated voice and immediately figured what his problem was. I was relieved to hear it was caught in time to possibly avoid another corneal ulcer!!! My follow up was not supposed to be until December, but inflammation in his eyes brought us back sooner. She prescribed two medications that were more cost-​effective than one and it appears his is doing better already.
Whenever I hear someone say their pet has I eye problem, if I am in San Diego County, I tell them to come here. Maybe I have not found the right vet, but I have yet to have correct diagnosis regarding his eyes in absence of a specialist. The office visit might cost more, but the saving of time and ineffective medications make the specialist worth it every time.

Dr Jamie Schorling is pleasant, and a great caring vet. She did a great job on my dog’s (Molly) eyes (double cataract). My pup sees fine now, and things seem to be progressing well during her healing stage. The front desk gals are really sweet, and helpful! I would definitely recommend using them. Thank you.

Although our pup had an awful time going from vet to vet to take care of his dry eye then a puncture (all the vets were great) we ended up here to get his eye fixed. We were very lucky Dr. Schooling had time to perform his eye surgery that afternoon. Though he may never regain his full eyesight, at least the pain is gone and his eye is back to (fairly) normal. Of course, surgery is expensive, but it would be expensive in humans as well, we just don’t realize it as much because we have health insurance to defray costs. I highly recommend health insurance for your pet esp for when accidents occur or for cancer (which he also has).
I highly recommend VCA Eye Specialty clinic. I wish we had come here 4 mos ago to possibly have avoided all the eye problems. If your vet DOESN’T refer you to an animal eye specialist for your pet’s eye problem (s), then they are doing your pet a disservice! VCA is professional, & they are experts in eye problems. Excellent pet docs!

I want to thank Drs. Vestre, Schorling, and Stuckey for curing my cat, Sushi’s eye ulcer. (The order of thanks here is by chronology seen throughout my cat’s visits, not necessarily in order of gratitude level). They always asked if I had questions and patiently answered all of them. They seem very knowledgeable and familiar with the type of issue my cat had, and were very reassuring that surgery would not be needed. It took about three months, likely because my cat is on steroids for her GI lymphoma and IBD, which impedes her healing, but we did it, with persistent, systematic use of ointments and drops. I took off a star only because I sometimes have to wait longer than I’d like; though I’m not the most patient person in the world.

I was very pleased with the care received from Dr. Stuckey. She was professional and knowledgeable and didn’t run up the bill with extensive tests. She did the tests necessary and recommended a plan of action that made sense to me. I would have given 5 stars but the one hour wait time was too long.

Truly happy with the service, professionalism, and most importantly the knowledge of the physicians here. I work in health education and spend most of my day dealing with physicians who are either misinformed, or misinformed and cocky about it as well. I can count on one hand the doctors I’ve dealt with who knew more than I did about the given topic, and I don’t even have a medical degree. Scary right?
Dr. Schorling identified a mystery that at least 6 vets prior failed to diagnose. She described it articulately, and laid out a game plan to address it immediately. My little guy suffered through a full year of discomfort and eye infections as a result of lazy «primary care» physicians who have never been trained to find the root cause of anything. With the exception of Bodhi animal clinic, they just threw antibiotics at it.
I knew it was time to see a specialist, and she did not disappoint. Baxter was in surgery within 2 days, and after a double-​eye surgery is sitting next to me, hopped up on Tramadol, snorting in pure opiate bliss, with gorgeous new eyelids that are healing remarkably fast. The cost is going to be significant, but we have pet insurance, so the $ 1600 bill will only cost me $ 200 in the end.
Highly recommend Dr. Schorling for her knowledge and expertise, accuracy in diagnosis, and skills as a surgeon.

I brought my guinea pig in yesterday to see Dr. Stuckey, and I cannot give the staff there enough praise! They were very knowledgeable, and extraordinarily friendly. They were all so patient with my guinea pig as well!

We had our first visit with the Eye Clinic for Animals today for what turned out (thank goodness) to be a fairly minor issue, and I was very impressed! First of all, the fact that they specialize specific in animal opthamology was really impressive, and they really know what they are talking about!
We saw Dr. Schorling and she was great– patient, knowledgable and great with our dog. The tech, Keely, was also great– she kept our pup calm and still while her eyes were checked. I was amazed at how they could check her eye pressure so easily! Everything was explained to me thoroughly and they left no stone unturned.
It was more pricey than a normal vet visit, but, they are specialists and I thought that it was well worth it. I would highly recommend any animal with eye related issues to pay a visit to Dr. Schorling and her team, you won’t regret it!

I spent a bit too much time at the Eye Clinic for Animals in 2014. Aged Corgi with corneal ulcers. It is a breed thing. I was treated kindly and professionally as was my dog at each of my many visits (I think there were 9). I saw both Dr. Schorling and Dr. Stuckey and both were great.
The facility is clean and bright and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this clinic for your pet’s eye needs.

Another pup with eye issues, another visit to Dr. Schorling today … she and her team are as good as it gets, and made very quick work of Sammie’s diagnosis. We thought for sure Sammie had cataracts, but it’s just normal aging and she’s got 75% vision left.
This is certainly the best news I’ve had on a pup in awhile, and Dr. Schorling was pleased to deliver it. It must be hard giving difficult (and pricey!) news to patients and their owners all day, but she’s a true professional either way.
I highly, highly recommend Dr. Schorling and her team!

Cannot say enough good things about this place. Squeezed me in for appointment right off the bat and took wonderful care of my pup over three visits. I was only in SD for two weeks, so they also provided me with referral once I got to Seattle. Very friendly, caring, and most importantly, knowledgeable and skilled staff. Everything was done very efficiently with little time wasted, but I still felt very well taken care of. It’s not cheap, but certainly not as expensive as I would expect for this level of expertise and care. Definitely recommend if your animal has serious eye issues.

I really recommend that all dog parents take their dogs to an animal ophthalmologist for EYE care, always.
I would have saved myself a ton of money and time if I had been aware of such clinic!
My dog was misdiagnosed and I really regret not coming here first but now that she has been seen we have a proper diagnosis and a plan for her future.
The clinic is small, clean and staff is incredibly friendly and loving towards animals. I only wish that they would put aggressive dogs in a room immediately rather than let the owner and aggressive dog hang out in the lobby.
Very professional and very expensive but worth it, I have dog insurance and I really beg all of you wonderful pet owners to please obtain medical insurance for your pets, it will make your life easier I promise.

Dr. Schorling was amazing! My kitty’s eye had been swollen shut for about 10 days and neither our regular vet or ER vet had been able to offer much relief, after several different treatment courses. My vet referred me to the Eye Clinic and it was worth the visit! Dr. Schorling took one look at the eye and immediately gave me her suspected diagnosis which she then confirmed under a microscope with a swab 5 minutes later. We had new medications and were out the door in under 30 minutes and the best part is that my kitty’s eye started to clear up within 12 hours on the news meds.
This clinic is efficient and well worth the specialist prices due to their level of knowledge and experience. I would highly recommend Eye Clinic for Animals and Dr. Schorling!

There are few moments in my life that I have ever felt utterly helpless and miserable. When my dog Roscoe’s eye ruptured, this was one of those moments.
One day his eyes were pink and puffy all of a sudden. I thought maybe he got bit by a spider or had an allergic reaction. I took him to a regular vet and they gave him allergy ointment for his eye and antibiotics. (I did some research and asked for professional opinion and found out that this actually irritated his eye more)
This all happened from friday evening through the weekend. We had to wait until monday morning to bring him in. He had a corneal ulcer that led to a rupture because the office wasn’t open. I almost docked a star from this review but it was just awful luck/​timing.
Dr. Vestre told me that he may possibly lose his eye if we don’t do something. and quick. He gave me two different options, one of which was a much less invasive procedure but had a chance of not fully healing the eye. He told me the pros and cons of both and I decided to go with the least invasive natural healing procedure.
Unfortunately, the eye did not heal as much as we wanted it to. His eye healed itself to put a very thin layer of protection over his eye, but if he was ever rough housing or ran into something it could rupture all over. (I was in tears during this visit)
I was able to negotiate with Dr. Vestre for a bit of a discount because I would now be paying for both surgeries. I was so incredibly thankful he could do this.
We did the conjunctival graft surgery. It’s been several months now and Roscoe is happy as ever. He does have a scar on his eye, but some of his vision was saved!
This was an incredibly emotional experience for me and I fully recommend this clinic. I heard the main doctor is very good too, but I can’t testify on this as I only wanted to see Dr. Vestre as he knew Roscoe’s case well. He is there on mondays and tuesdays I believe.
The only thing I would say is that the office should have an emergency line or at least record messages for over the weekend eye emergencies. I really would liked to have been able to ask about what to do before bringing him in. Thanks for saving Roscoe’s eye!

Dr Schorling just pulled a foxtail out of my little guys eye!!! He’s been suffering for WEEKS & WEEKS and we didn’t know why. I can’t give enough praise to the doctor or her staff (especially Katie and Danielle) for making my little guy feel SOOOOO much better. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Today we had to go to the clinic because Odin’s eye has been looking worse. They made the appointment with a different Veterinarian and BOY WAS THAT A MISTAKE. I had previously given this clinic 5 stars and my previous review stands for Dr. Schorling and all the staff but Dr. Vestre is NOT a personable Vet. He has no patience with his animal clients. Odin is the sweetest dog and will sit for all his visits, NOT TODAY. This man was rough, impatient and just ornery. He was huffing and puffing his displeasure at Odin not wanting a piece of machinery placed in his eye and palpitated. At one point the Vet went flying back, arms wide behaving like Odin had tried to bite him. My husband at that point said OK, let’s take a minute and let him chill out. The vet was not happy, we were wasting his time. His own Vet Tech asked for the equipment and said she would get the reading from her position on the floor, and she got the reading with ease. Odin sat calmly for her, but this Dr Vestre is NOT good with animals and he is in a hurry hurry hurry. He wanted our appointment done in 5 minutes. He left the room and before we finished with his Vet Tech and left our exam room he had ALREADY finished with his next client in another room WTF a 3 minute exam? Oh and our appointment with his «expert» exam and medication was over $ 200. Guess what HE’S FIRED, I wouldn’t allow this man to ever touch one of my animals again.
Sorry Eye Clinic for Animals staff because we LOVE all of you, but I would NEVER EVER allow this man to perform surgery on my pet when I won’t be there to protect him.
