this poor farmer’s market has gone from westfield mall utc to doyle elementary to its current location at the end of regent’s road off of arriba in la jolla colony. its dwindled in size, vendors and attendance. overall, its kind of disappointing if you’re comparing it to other farmer’s markets in town, or if you want to actually shop for groceries. but its a good option if you live in the area and just wanna stop by for a quick bite, some produce and a couple of treats. there weren’t very many people there, so there weren’t any lines most of the people there were families or college kids grabbing shaved ice and tamales for dinner the produce vendors seemed kind completely unenthusiastic, probably because of the bad turnout… still, i walked around the booth several times and noone acknowledged me –its open thursday afternoon/evening which is pretty convenient –there’s a good amount of free, easy to find parking(park in the Von’s shopping center and walk) –there’s about five street food vendors(tamales and a hot dog place I think) for a quick bite after work –shave ice, fudge, hummus, local honey to take home –there are three local produce stands, selling mostly seasonal fruit and veggies but a little pricier than at most markets and they all have very similar selections(ie. there might as well only be one) –there is no flower seller –there are no non-edible vendors(crafts, jewelry etc)

Great and intimate place where I can get organic fruits for my girls. The blueberries were a big hit the last time I came. Looking forward to my next visit soon!

The poor UTC Farmers Market has had it rough – moving around a few times before it has now recently settled into this new location at the very end of Regents Road.(Take Nobel Drive, Go South on Regents Road and continue to the very end.) I like this locale as I volunteered with Surfrider SD to hand out free reusable shopping bags for a «Rise Above Plastics» environmental outreach here. This spot is secluded with trees, there seems to be ample parking and it makes good use of a dead end on Thursday afternoons. This is one of the smaller Brian’s Farmers Market-managed weekly markets. I heard someone there mention it as «quaint.» At first, the crowd wanders in slowly, although it is steady. After people get off work in the neighborhood, then it picks up measurably. We managed to give away 500 reusable shopping bags here yesterday. The Carlsbad Strawberry Farm did very well and the strawberries are scrumptious. A fellow Surfrider volunteer bought some delicious local almond honey. I was jonesing for a crêpe but held off due to finances. The flower vendor had some beautiful bouquets for sale. The Auntie Lynne solar-powered food truck was nearby our booth and looked yummy! Because this is a smaller street event, the mix of vendors is carefully thought out and appears well balanced. This is certainly not your OB or Hillcrest Farmer’s Market. It does not feel congested or stressful at all. If you are in the market to browse, sip, sample and munch in a peacefully shady ambiance right off the 52 Freeway over the fence, then this is the place for you. 5 UnilocalSTARS!
