UFC Gym

I signed up about a year ago. I only went to work out for a few months because I did not like the gym’s management at all. Since the beginning, it was really hard to get a copy of my agreement. It was like pulling teeth. When I signed up, I was offered three free personal sessions with a trainer. When I asked to scheduled them, one of the trainers said: you did not pay that much for your membership. How did you do that? He said that to make me feel bad about asking to get my personal sessions scheduled with a trainer! I just said: «you offered this deal to me, i did not asked for it. I don’t get your comment». He did not say anything else after that. Employees/​trainers at UFC do not know how to treat their members. They were rude and condescending to me all the time. No one seemed to know even the basics. I called the gym to get the gym’s business hours and the person who answered seemed to be annoyed by my question. I thought this would be a very simple question to answer… WRONG!
One time I took a water from the fridge and went to the front desk to pay for it. Since the employee covering the front desk was outside talking on his personal phone, I did not wait to pay for it because my class was about to start and I forgot my bottle water. If you are taking a kickboxing class, there is no way you are going to survive without drinking water. I decided to go to the front desk to pay for it after finishing my class. Well, the employee that was busy taking personal phone calls interrupted me during class to pay for the water. He treated my like a thief. Seriously? It’s okay to ask me to pay for it but please, do it nicely. He was the one that left the front desk unattended to make personal phone calls, not me. I emailed the gym’s manager several times to complain about different issues but he never replied to my emails. It’s a shame because I really enjoyed the punching bags and the equipment in general but dealing with the staff was getting ridiculous. These guys are not trained at all to deal with customers/​members. If you complain about something, they get very confrontational and rude. I work with customers all the time and I can’t even imagine treating my customers the way these employees treated me. I am not renewing my yearly contract for sure. I go to the gym to relax and train and not to worry about unprofessional and rude staff. They are only nice to you before you sign the contract. After that, they do not care about you anymore. I don’t understand how a company can run its business this way. Don’t you like to renew contracts? Smh! I’m going back to 24 hr fitness. They treated me very well all the time. No drama.

This is just for this location, other locations are probably different. Got a flyer for a 10-​day pass in August, so went to check it out. I don’t live in La Mesa, but that is where the pass was good. They sold me a prepaid membership which was good for all locations (they said). I paid upfront, almost $ 600. Tried to go to the Mission Valley location, they informed me I only had a membership in La Mesa. Irritating, but i still wanted to go there, so I let it slide and went back to La Mesa to upgrade to the membership for all locations. Again, they told me to pay upfront almost $ 300 because it was a whole new membership, and I’d be charged monthly. They were supposed to have Tennille the manager (sp?) refund the $ 600. Refund never came, I called multiple times and each time they needed to call me back for whatever reason, but never did. Still, I wanted to go there, so I just disputed the charge with my credit card company and let it go. Then the past due emails, calls, and texts started coming. First they said i was past due the $ 600, then they charged me a fee for disputing the charge, then somehow my autopay wasn’t set up so they started harrassing me about the monthly payments. I went to the gym and supposedly got it fixed, but it never was. Called many more times and finally just told them to cancel me after no one ever returned my calls or fixed the billing. This was in October, and kept receiving past due collections calls thru December, till FINALLY Neil, the only person to make good on his word, cancelled me out and fixed my billing. At least my credit card refunded the $ 600, but they still got $ 300 from me that I never was able to use or get back.

I’ve been a part of this gym now for a year and I can’t tell you how much the coaches care for your safety and learning experience. I have never been to a more inviting gym and recommend Aerial United to anyone whether you have prior experience or not :)

I signed up with this gym. The classes were awesome, but empty. If your’re motivated by group settings i don’t recommend it. The 2 stars is for the business part of this establishment. Communication and accessibility for management staff and fixing account issues is unreliable at the least. I notifed management that i wanted to cancel my son and my own account due to the gyms hours not coordinating with our schedules. You have to physically walk into the gym and sign papers to cancel it. I cancelled my account in sep after going into the gym and speaking to the manager. In oct i received a late billing notice for both accounts. I called the gym on friday morning and only one person could assist and he was not there. I called again Saturday and Tineel (the manager) answered and said he would call me back in 10 mins. Never called back and i called an hour later and he was no longer there or available until Monday. Monday morning I called and he was not there until 10. He answered and stated my accts were «good to go» and cancelled. About two hours later i got a call from a collection agency and they stated they’re directly linked with ufc gym system seeing my account was still past due. I called back Tineel at UFC Gym and asked for an email verification that my accts were cancelled and he said sure, come in and we can print you out one. After the amount of mistakes and inconveniences this company has caused i still need to take time out of my day and work schedule to come in? It’s easy to get customers and hard to keep them, probably why this place is always empty.

Friendly staff and great classes. The gym is kept clean and the coaches are very knowledgable I would recommend joining this gym. The other locations are just as good. I have visited most of the ones in San Diego and have been a member for over a year.

I really like this gym. My family and I came in on a tour and we ended up signing up my son (6 yrs old) and my husband. We met with coach Mike. Nicest guy ever! I mean seriously. Even my kids loved him!
I was looking for a karate studio and have toured a couple but after touring UFC gym my husband and I felt that was the right choice. They offer many kids classes Monday to Saturday and have a belting system for jiu jitsu. Which is great. Their kids membership prices were less than most of the karate places we went to! Overall we are very excited about this gym and surprised by how family friendly it is!

Ok let me start off by again saying «I love this gym and its staff»! Now that I’ve said that I need to say «The business end of this establishment sucks! Again I’m here writing because this company has taken something so simple (paying my bill) and made it very I mean very difficult! I received an e-​mail reminding me that my payment was due with a phone number attached to make the payment. I now have called this 888 number 3 days in a row with a all representatives are busy message and when given the option to leave a message the mail box is full :-/​So now with day 3 frustration I decide I will just call my gym location and have them take my credit card number and pay the bill. Well folks you’ll never guess what? Yep thats right no one there can run my account or accept my payment I have to wait until tomorrow to speak with a G. M to make my payment. Come on guys this gym is fantastic so lets get the business end of this establishment in the 20^th century please or if you’d like I can start sending my payment by check attached to a homing pigeon. Lol

What a great gym! I’m here strictly for conditioning and have got one hell of a sweat dripping workout both go rounds. My first class was with Daniel Coffee… a solid dude with great boxing skills and knows how to put you through a great workout and today BJJ with Leo Ramos. Daniel is a purist and I enjoyed his knowledge and teaching and Leo is a great dude with skill and knows how to make you sweet and have fun at the same time. The gym is clean, people are friendly, everyone checks their attitudes at the door and its a great place to get your butt in shape at a great price.

I love this gym! I switched for 24 hour fitness and now I hate going back to 24 hour! This gym feels like home! All the staff is super friendly, and they always remember me and are happy to see me there! Ed teaches the kickboxing/​boxing classes at 8am and they are my absolute favorite classes! It’s a great, and fun workout that I would recommend everyone try! :)

They keep leaving flyers on our door in our gated apartment complex. LEAVE US ALONE. We don’t want to join your gym. And it’s a waste of paper.

Just took my first class — kickboxing with Coacj Jerron on Friday night. Someone warned me right before the class that Jerron is pretty intense. They were right! It kicked my ass. But after finishing it, I feel great!
Jerron is an awesome coach. He really pushed me to keep going (because if I was alone, I would’ve taken a 15-​minute rest break or stretched for half the time ha).
After the class, he went up to a guy in the class who has a big fight in 2 weeks. He told the guy that he needs to gain weight for the fight. The guy responded, «Food costs money.»
Jerron said that if he ever needed [financial] help, he had his back.
Turns out, Coach Jerron doesn’t even know that guy!
That’s love right there.

LOVE THIS GYM! I’ve been a member here since the grand opening (about 4 – 5 months) and I absolutely love it here! I was first a little hesitant walking into UFC gym, but right from the start I was greeted with a huge welcoming smile from coach mike. On my first day there, he showed me around and taught me how to use the machines (which was super helpful) !!! I recently decided to sign up for personal training with coach mike and it’s honestly the best decision I could’ve made. Every penny has been worth it and I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in! awesome gym, friendly staff and clean facility !!! Perfect ! I recommend it! Thank you coach mike for motivating me!!! =)

Do not sign up with this gym! I was a member of the old gym (village gym) with a full year paid membership, and was told UFC Gym would honor my prepaid membership until the end of my contract which ends in April 2015. Even tho, they insisted I fill out «paper work» with UFC Gym so I could be added to their system and receive a new scan pass to access the gym. They also insisted on getting my credit card. Because I have prepaid for a year membership, I refused. Today I received a phone call from a collection company saying I haven’t paid the gym since August 2014 — the date Village Gym changed to UFC Gym. Steve Wright was the UFC Gym employee who converted my contract into a new UFC Gym contract so he could collect a commission for signing me up. He is a crook and should be terminated. I’m hoping the owner (Dave) sees this and does something about this. Now I have to fight with the collection company and hope my credit isn’t affected by these idiots!

Super nice gym. All the equipment is new and super nice.
The gym has a good vibe and staff were friendly and cool.
Good change for your routine from the large corporate gyms.

UFC Gym San Carlos is awesome! Everyone there, from the trainers, staff, etc. are all extremely knowledgeable and professional. The trainers always go out of their way to make sure that you are doing the drills and exercises correctly — You can tell they really care. Plus, many of the trainers are professional fighters themselves, so you know that they know what they’re doing. Honestly, I can’t say enough great things about this gym and their classes/​training sessions. Ed, Matt, Steve, James and Chris are all top-​notch! Best. Gym. Ever. Join, you won’t be disappointed.

I love UFC Gym in San Carlos! I been waiting for a place like this for years around the neighborhood. Before they were open I contacted UFC and they replied right away. They made the time to meet up with me and my children. We received a descriptive tour. I signed up myself as well as my kids. The classes are awesome. The trainers are the best I have ever met. They are willing to work with you at your level. They keep you motivated and always change things up. Never boring. The staff is always friendly and greet you with a smile. My kids also enjoy the gym. Its not overly crowded like other gyms I’ve been to. The machines up to date and are in working condition. No «out of order» signs here, nor squeaky machines. And the place is clean. Can’t say enough good things about UFC.

I have been to the Spring Valley Gym and now the San Carlos Gym, these gyms are nothing like any other gym I have been to this is real intense training. The trainers and the staff are top notch they keep you motivated, make you want to keep coming back. I see this gym as the place to real get in shape. You need to try it see for yourself.

Unfortunately, I am one unhappy customer. I signed a contract with this location on 8÷11÷14 and Mr. B. Walker who presented me with the contract made an arrangement where I wouldn’t have to pay my first member fee until 9/31/14…well, my card was debited on 8÷28÷14, and the club was yet to open at this date. When I signed my contract, I was informed that the club would open «in 9 days» per Mr. Walker, which that would’ve been approx 8÷20÷14. I recieved an email on 9÷12÷14 informing that there would be a grand opening on 9÷13÷14 but I had already mailed my certified letter for a refund on 9÷10÷14.
Due to the inconsistencies in my contract, the early debit on my account, the late opening of the club and also other Unilocal reviews, I mailed my letter requesting my refund by certififed mail, according to their policy, and I learned when following up with the USPS, that UFC Gym declined receipt of my letter. Not quite sure why a business would want to do that if they weren’t practicing bad business. But I chose not to wait to receive my letter which has been returned and should be on its way back to me as I write this review. I contacted the BBB and have filed a complaint. Low and behold, there are other complaints of UFC Gyms, that luckily have been resolved. So I am not too worried. I am quite disappointed at the time I am having to spend on this case but I work very hard for my money and get very angry if I don’t get the services I pay for.
I’ve requested the BBB to get the District Attorney involved as well. So we’ll see what happens.

Do NOT sign anything with these folks, or (as you can see from Unilocal reviews of other UFC gyms) you will never see you money again if you decide to cancel. I went to check this place out (it was replacing another gym at the same spot) and got the hard sell – they just would not take no for an answer. The assistant manager mis-​represented the nature of the gym as well as a number of other things. When I went back and discovered I was paying for something that wasn’t even open yet (as promised), I tried to get a refund as promised on my contract. I was told I had to see the manager, and went back every day that week and the next – he was never there. I finally had them call him. He told the folks there to refund my money. I went back two days later and behold! he was there, but said he didn’t recall the conversation. I insisted on my right for a refund as on the contract and he said he would do that. I asked for a confirming email, which never came. I went back two days later, since by then I didn’t trust anyone there. I was shown my account online, which stated I had a refund but they said it would take 7 – 10 business days. As of today, more than a month later, I still do not have a refund. It’s clear they do not intend to give me one, so I am reporting them to the police for fraud.
