Tutor La Jolla believes that students should benefit from a balanced approach to education. Conceptual understanding is one critical key to this balance. Children need and deserve to know the larger picture, and purpose of whatever it is they’re learning. Alternatively, children also need the opportunity to practice and strengthen important skills, such as multiplication facts, spelling and sight words, as these skills are necessary foundations for higher order thinking skills.

Business Owner

Rachel Ulloa has a Master’s degree in Education, a California teaching credential, and over six years of experience as a classroom teacher.

Rachel always knew she wanted to be an educator.

«As a teacher, I felt most successful when I could connect one on one with my students. During those individual conferences, I was able to focus all my attention on their specific questions or misconceptions. What I most loved was really getting to understand their thinking, and helping them to the next level. With individualized instruction, students get immediate feedback. Now as a tutor, I now get to spend at least an hour at a time listening to my students and witnessing those moments of growth, whether they be small corrections, or developmental milestones. I see that ligh tbulb „aha“ moment several times a day.»
