Like so many others, we are totally impressed with their mobile-​service responsiveness, professionalism, and value. And it’s always fun to support a small business where the owner is genuinely passionate about the quality of his service. You won’t do any better than True Sharp!

These guys are the best find ever for my chef/​cooking/​foodie friends! They came to our house on short notice just before Thanksgiving day and sharpened more than 20 knives for just $ 50. They even saved my beloved but abused Shuns… all the nicks are gone! Totally worth twice what I paid. Highly recommend!

Ryan came to my home today, set up and did a fantastic job sharpening my Henckel knives. I’ve used his services before and he does an excellent, precise job and offers very competitive pricing. $ 50 minimum to come to your home, what a great value! If you don’t have enough knives, gather the neighbors!

This is an incredible service! In the past I would take half my knives several miles away to get them sharpened, wait two or three days, take the other half, wait two or three more days, and finally have sharp knives, with 3 separate trips. Instead, one phone call to Ryan, appointment made within the week, he arrives exactly on time and parks in my driveway, and an hour later, all my and my sister’s knives are sharpened and ready for the holiday season. Excellent work, excellent price, friendly, helpful young business owner… what more can you ask?

Ryan, owner/​operator, provides knife sharpening on a mobile basis… coming to you. He has a $ 50 minimum. So, I gathered all my kitchen knives and two pair of scissors, and got him to come over.
Appointment was made a week in advance, and he arrived on time. He did the work in his van, while parked out front. He finished the 15 knives in about 1 ¼ hours. Paid cash, and we were done.
So far, I’m pleased.

This is the second time I have had Ryan out to sharpen our knives. We tried another vendor in front of a store in the in between and they just could not touch the quality and duration of keeping an edge as what Ryan did. We will definitely be calling again. Thank you!

Got all our kitchen knives sharpened, and also the garden tools. Ryan does a good job of sharpening, at a reasonable price. And when asked, he gives advice on keeping knives sharp. Today (5÷4÷15) Ryan said he no longer has the shop in San Diego, he works strictly mobile now.

I cut something I shouldn’t have with my nice fabric scissors (oops) and left two shallow notches in the blade tip. Tru sharp smoothed them out in 10 min for only $ 5, good as new! What a relief, and lesson learned…
This place may be tiny and easy to pass on the street, but they do great work for awesome prices.

He showed up on time, sharpened all my knives, scissors & even a tree loper. I would highly recommend him.

Had a bit of trouble with scheduling as the hours are limited but I’m impressed with the service. He will work with your schedule with some minimums. Very fair and transparent pricing. Super sharp knives. Can’t believe I used to cut veggies with such dull knives. Recommended.

Can you say AWESOME? I can and will about this place and its tremendous service. I have a 17″ paper cutter and had a blade break. I did have a dull, knicked and rusty old spare. I also had a job with a deadline for one of my better clients. Most sharpening places will not take a blade like mine, I have to send them to LA and wait a week. I brought my terrible old blade in and Ryan smiled and said «its bigger by like 300% than most I deal with but I will do it!» 1 hour later my blade was as sharp as any of my blades has ever been, it looked like almost new, my jobs were completed on time and TRUE SHARP has earned my business and referral forever! Did I mention they did this on a Saturday? This was a literal miracle for me… thank you TRUE SHARP. If i can print some flyers or whatever for you guys at no charge please let me know. Thanks again! Travis did an amazing job for my mom and me! Our sewing scissors and pinking shears were dull, dull, dull until he sharpened them up in just minutes. No more dull knives either! Even a serrated bread knife was no problem! All of our cutting implements were sharpened in less than 20 minutes for just forty bucks. Such a bargain! Next up are some thirty-​year-​old steak knives! Cannot praise this business enough! I will recommend True Sharp to friends and colleagues.

I’ve been looking for a knife sharpening place for ages… a good one that is. and I have yet to find one.
Sure did it get my knife sharp, yes, to his standards, did it ruin everything else. yes! My knives usually cut through chicken bones with no effort, and basically you wouldn’t even know you were cutting through a bone until you see you have, I mean you put no pressure and it glides right through everything like hot butter.
I have professional Hattori knives I spent a lot of money on. Had they told me they don’t use a whet stone to sharpen knifes and what sounded like just a machine cause the guy took less than a minute to sharpen my knives after he complimented how amazing these knives were.
I’m also not sure what happened but while they were sharpening my knife, they took off several inches off the blade! Again, yes they were sharp, but the blade edge wasn’t even close to how a japanese blade should be sharpened. I paid a pretty penny, and to see your knife with a few inches shaved off from the original state is pretty disheartening. With Japanese knives you don’t only pay for the blade but you also pay for the craftsmanship and the style and how exquisite the knife is.
Needless to say, I thought I could live with it, but alas I couldn’t bear seeing my knife in such rough shape. Let’s just say you paid for a 1 carat diamond, and got a .8 diamond back, would you say, «Oh well, it’s still a diamond» OR would you want your 1 carat back???
I must admit I wasn’t expecting the owner to do anything about it, but I was surprised he did. He reimbursed me my money ($ 3.00) and my suggestion was that he pay me for half of what I could replace the knife with if I bought a new one. I paid $ 200, and I did find that I could get it for $ 150 now, so he agreed to paying me $ 75.00. I was SO livid, I wasn’t thinking and I told him he could keep the knife, really made me angry to look at it anyway. SO, needless to say he got a GREAT deal on a really expensive Japanese knife.

Yes they do a great job if you have a regular old knife of sorts, but if you’re looking for good authentic knife sharpening to keep your japanese knives in tact, this is not the place. Also horrible shop hours.
If the owner (he didn’t sharpen my knife) didn’t reimburse me for some portion of what I paid for my knife this would be a 0 rating, but to my surprise and shock, and because he did this gets 2.5 stars.
***In response to Ryan’s comments — My other knife they also sharpened, again may be sharp compared to cutco’s knives, however my japanese knives that originally required NO effort cutting through bones and root vegetables, now I have to apply A LOT of force to cut through a potato and what sold me on these knives was being able to cut onions without getting watery eyes being that they were so sharp, this is definitely NOT the case anymore.
As for comparing and looking at the knife to see if inches were taken off, unless you have another original there to compare against the one I took in and surrendered, you can’t really prove that inches were taken off. My review is fair and exactly based on MY experience, nor would I have a reason to exaggerate this negative experience. In response to your restaurants sharpening comment, maybe you need to share which restaurants you sharpen for, what kind of knives they use etc before that comment has validity, since it may be for some greasy spoon kitchen that doesn’t need extremely sharp knives to cook.
Still disappointed about this experience — good money spend on knives I can’t even replace here in San Diego because NO ONE carries the same brand of knives, and all the specialty shops express just how sharp and nice my knives. once were.

I echo everything that has been said. Fast, well priced, very friendly. I dropped my chef knife, and then a dent~2−3 mm deep in the edge was chipped off. I brought it over and after 5 – 10 minutes and about $ 13, my knife was back to scary-​sharp. They normally do a 20 – 22 degree edge, but they gave me 16 degree edge (Japanese knife) upon my request. If it will cost you more than $ 15 to replace your knife (a no-​brainer), definitely have these guys repair or sharpen your edge.

Cheap, fast and easy. Plus Ryan was a pleasure to deal with. Just drop off your knives etc. and grab a bite to eat on India Street. When you’re done eating, your knives are ready.

Fast, inexpensive, and excellent results. I’ve gone twice, both times there was no wait and it took 10 – 15′ to sharpen two knives. Camping fixed blade, pocketknife, Henckels paring knife, and a santoku-​style chef knife. I have no idea if the santoku was given a 15 degree edge; it might not have had that to begin with.
All I know is, all my knives were returned sharp! Use whatever cliched simile you want (like a… hot knife through butter, Hattori Hanzo katana through Oren Ishii’s skull, lightsaber through Darth Maul), they all apply. What a difference. Slicing tomatoes, shredding cabbage, whatever — it’s so much easier. Practically effortless. I should’ve taken my knives in years ago instead of messing around with whetstones or those cheap kitchen knife sharpeners.

Found them inexpensive, and efficient. Customer service not delivered with a smile, but certainly polite. Parking not super easy.

A dull knife blows… but thanks to Ryan at True Sharp all my knives are ready for action again! Thanks so much, I appreciate the professionalism. To be honest, I was afraid to take my knife kit into just any shop but when I reviewed True Sharp on Unilocal and knowing that Ryan goes to restaurants it made me feel much better knowing my knives were in good hands. The price was great and the service fast and beautiful.

Been a few years since we had our wedding knives and never got them sharpened. However, I was bummed that we couldn’t make the hours of the shop.
Reached out to Ryan and he came in early 2 days to meet me at the shop for drop off and pickup… and the knives turned out awesome.
