Loved it!!! The young lady working was patient and very friendly! My daughters loved dipping their own candles. It also smells excellent in there. A visit here is a must!

Stopped at this cute little shop last Sunday after we had lunch in Old Town. Right as you walk in you can smell all the wonderful aromas from the soaps, candles and bath salts. The staff was very nice and informative and the girl who helped us was very kind to answer all of our questions. I bought a sweet pea candle and it smells amazing! The girl that helped us said that the outside of the candle had some sort of cast that wouldn’t melt so once the candle was done we can just stick tea candles inside the cast. After the second time of lighting my candle the «cast» started melting! That was a bummer, since the girl said it wouldn’t melt but oh well. I also bought some lavender bath salts which I have get to use but I can’t wait! Overall the experience was great and I hope to come back sometime in the near future to take advantage of making my own candle.

This place smells amazing. They also sell large incense in here. Candles, candle melt cubes, soaps, scrubs, and you can even do the wax thing with your hands.

The only shop in San Diego for sugar scrub, bath salts, and amazing soap! Best tourist gifts in town. Not to mention the incredible hand-​carved candles and decorative candle pillars made right in the store! Talk about a local gift! The owners, Paul and Kellee, are the best! I will visit every time I come to SD.

I have loved this shop for years. The owners are always nice and they have the cutest weenie dog! The massage candles are a must. I have about five of them. They provide the perfect amount of slip and they don’t leave you feeling gross and oily but moisturized.

Love this little candle shop. So nice and tidy and many items to choice from. Everything is week marked. All the different scents are quite inviting. The prices are fair. I purchased a bath fizz for $ 5, can’t wait to use it. Love their readily available packaging options, tissue/​waxy type bags or plastic bags to choose from, serve your self. I will definitely make this shop a regular stop when visiting Old Town.

Yup, it was terribly crowded but today is July 4^th.
The owner was carving an awesome candle and I was mesmerized by the beautiful lighthouse candles behind the cash register. They’re so beautiful I ended up purchasing 2. I figure I could give them away as birthday presents, I’ll probably keep them though. Can’t wait to go back on a weekday.

Great family activity. Kids loved getting their hands dipped in wax. Service was very pleasant and friendly. They made it fun for my kids.

Wow! I am blown away by their service!!! Paul and Kellee were fantastic! We happened to walked by on the day the were teaching their employees how to make hand wax figures and we got to be some of the lucky ones. It was such a fun experience and my son’s hand and mine turned our beautiful! The candles smelled so pretty and looked beautiful! I wish we could have had more time and money to spend here! Deff my go to candle and soap shop from now on!

How cool is this??? We went and visited during the Dia los Muertos celebration and Old Town was super packed with people. Tony and his wife were extremely patient with everyone there and I was mesmerized by the hand candles. My husband got his done and I love seeing it in our home everyday. We plan on bringing our family and friends there when they come and visit. Thank you for having such great service and great quality of candles and soaps!

Had a very amazing and memorable experience!
My boyfriend purchased candles from the store in advance, so he could surprise me the next day. The staff was able to put the candles on hold, and we simply had to pick them up the next day.
There were ample spaces to dip the candles in the colored wax, with lots of different colors.
The best part was when we dipped our hands together in wax. This experience was a HUGE bonding experience for us, because we were stuck together for at least 15 min, and we have forever proof of a wax hand mold to show for it!
A big shout out to LAUREN for helping us out! She was so friendly and personable. She told us that she was a great colorer/​wax dipper… So we took her word for it. She made a beautiful ombré hand mold!

Its a family ran place that does amazing exhibitions on candle making. Very neat to watch. Also they have candle making for kids and the little ones get a kick out of dipping thier choice statues into the wax. a must see when visiting Old Town!

Well how fun is this place? Candle making on the premise, family owned, and locals working inside who feel the same way about tourists as the rest of us but still serve with a smile. Check the clearance rack for some exceptional deals, and there is usually a military discount taking place also.

The staff is that friendly but gives you space to wander — which is great, because on a Saturday afternoon the place was packed.
The scenes are not overwhelming (I’m used to candle/​soap shops cascading with manufactured odors) but there is a fun variety of scents AND products; they have a few items that are off the beaten path. But if you peruse casually, I’m sure you’ll find something you like. Keep in mind: it’s a candle shop in Old Town, so it’s not cheap.
Bring a few dollars and spend some time wandering.

Filled with beautiful scents the moment you walk in the door, Toby’s Candle and Soap Shop is a delight for the senses. There are shelves full of candles and other pretty items, with soft scents wafting about the store. As a bath product addict, I’m like a kid in a candy store here. Nothing’s more relaxing than lovely candles, bath bombs, and scrubs in my favorite scent. I also like the idea of having products that are clean and green in my home. I love knowing that I’m doing what I can for the health of those in my home and for the environment!
The store is spacious and clean but was very crowded the day we were here. With everyone inquiring about all the wonderful products and those famous hand-​dipped candles, it was a bit difficult to move around in this very popular store. The really pleasant staff did everything the could to answer every customer’s and ring up items as efficiently as possible.
With all the fun gifts ideas for family and friends at Toby’s, we’ll definitely have to come back when it’s not so crowded and really check out the awesome selection. With friendly service and quality products, this is a fun stop while in Old Town!
