I went to Dr Luke by referral of a good friend. He has always taken his dog to her. I had a vet visit at another place where they said my dog may need a lot or all of his teeth removed. I wanted a second opinion so I went to Dr Luke.
The front desk girls were all very nice and helpful. You can tell everyone at tierrasanta veterinary hospital loves animals.
I immediately felt good about bringing my dog Frankie to them.
It was confirmed that Frankie did have a mouth full of painful rotten teeth. Dr Luke educated me on the importance of dental health for dogs. She thoroughly explained how and why this happened to Frankie. He is a 9 year old rescue and I got him last year. He was always a grumpy sluggish old man. I never knew it was because he was in pain.
Dr Luke was able to conduct Frankies surgery that day. She gave me a pager incase she needed to contact me and cell service was down. It felt good having that added insurance of knowing if my phone is down she can still contact me.
She called a few times and gave me updates on his surgery progress. In the end he had a very long 4.5 hour surgery. He did very well and was able to go home that night.
There are more teeth on his lower jaw still needing to be removed but he has a massive deterioration of his lower jaw. Dr Luke recommends I go to a specialist for it since his jaw can break easily. She said she can do it but he is far more skilled at repairing jaws if it does break. She easily could have scheduled the next surgery for herself and made more money. But I appreciated that she was honest and referred Frankie to someone else. So I appreciate and value her honesty.
Frankie had his surgery about a week ago. Since then Dr Luke has personally called three times to check on Frankies healing progress.
I disagree with these bad Unilocal and what they say about Dr Luke. I had a very positive experience and I’ll continue to take my dogs to Dr Luke.
It was an expensive surgery but with good reason as it was long and intensive. My dog is happy and playful now. Thank you Dr Luke and staff!

We had the worst experience here. All we wanted to have done was exams for our dogs so that we could buy their heartguard medication. My wife called prior to our visit for prices regarding exactly what we wanted. Now of course vets will recommended treatments and such but c’mon…almost $ 1k compared to what we were quoted on the phone (which was about $ 300). After modifying the «treatment plans» we explained to Dr. Luke that we already had a quoted price from the Jan (receptionist). Dr. Luke did the right thing and spoke with Jan to confirm. Jan tried to throw another employee, «who is on her way out,» under the bus by saying the other gal misspoke over the phone when in fact it was actually her that my wife spoke with.
TWO HOURS LATER… we were accidentally charged over $ 3k on our card. Jan apologized for making the mistake but it was still a mistake that could have been prevented by just slowing down. Needless to say we had to contact our bank and notify then of the charge to try and fix things, which we all know isn’t a fun process.
We will not be returning here.

I took my dog to Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital (the one near Haagan.) During my visit I was left waiting for over 2.5 hours. I strongly felt that Dr. Luke was making sales on me, and not considering treating my dog, but adding additional unnecessary costs to my bill. She even pressured me by saying I would have to sign a form stating that I was «going against doctors orders» (a form which they never brought) and the worst part was when I got home I found that they didn’t include two of the medications I had paid for. I called the next day to ask for the medications at which time I was told that since I left, the price of the medication had gone up and to receive the medicines (that I already had a receipt for) i would have to pay an additional $ 88 dollars for it. After four days, 7 – 8 phone calls, and arguing I finally got the medication. Worst customer service experience I have ever had. Not to mention the office was filthy. I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE FROM TAKING THEIR PETS HERE.

Last year my female German Shepard began attacking our boxer puppy. Not only did Dr. Luke take time to walk me through all my options but she also provided me with many resources on how I could retrain my dogs with a behaviorist. She was and is an amazing vet and I could not recommend her enough to everyone I know and love.

We took our six month old there as we thought she had an obstruction and was retching. Dr Luke carefully explained our options and we dicided to get the X-​rays. She gave a discount for the office visit since we had adopted her from Helen Woodward. Turns out she was not obstructed so it’s probable a cough and cold. She was very patient with us and all her explanations were very helpful. I did call Helen Woodward and they agreed the vet took the right path and that her prices were very close to Helen Woodward. She also once split the cost with me to euthanize a pet rat that had not been properly care for by s neighbor to help get the poor thing out of its misery. I respect and trust Dr Luke completely.

I would give this VET… Dr Luke… ZERO… stars if I could. I am so HAPPY this money hungry horrible VET is finally getting the reviews she deserves. I went to her several years ago & she killed one of my little dogs & amost killed another for a simple dental cleaning. If you love your animal please please stay away from there.
If she doesn’t kill your loved one with over doing her so called needed procedures, she will kill your wallet by over charging you for them.
She killed my little dog by giving her too much IV fluids & caused her little lungs to fill up… the end result cause her to have a Cardic Arrest & she died. This is confirmed to be the truth by an ultra sound that was given to her at The Animal Emergy Hospital where she had to be transported by a Animal ambulance in an oxgen mask to be able to even breath. I also want to say that her hospital staff was so incompetent that they did not even know my dog was in dire need of help when they went to her cage & unplugged her from the fluids, carried her down the hall to the waitng room & handed her over to me so I could feed her her dinner for that evening. She was struggling to breathe, her tongue was blue. I told the Vet tech immediatley there was something terribbly wrong with her… they told me «NO there’s not, just take her out to got potty.
With out giving all the sad heart breaking details that went on that night, I will just tell you my little dog died that night, she could not come out of the oxgen tank & breath on her own. I did write a whole long review several years ago 2009 when it happened. You may be able to still find it.
Oh yes, I should tell you this whole thing started because I took her in because she had a bladder infection & DR. LUKE put her on 12 weeks of antiibiotics…12 WEEKS!!! The morning I took her in to stay for three days of IV fludis she was happy, ate, played & loved life. We loved her so much.
I am still heart broken to this day… so please if you love you animal do not trust thier life with her.
YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID DR. LUKE! SHAME ON YOU!

Prepare to open your wallet to have them make you feel guilty as you do so. I have been to this offer numerous times and spent far too much money here, I will not go back as their office requirements of coming in for refills os ongoing medication is both expensive and time consuming

This vet uses scare tactics in order to get you to pay for all kinds of tests, medicines and unnecessary procedures. I will never go to this Vet again. Only plus were the assistants. They earn the one and only star.

They try and up sell everything pushing for shots X-​rays and meds when they obviously aren’t needed. I was told it would be $ 54 for a check up when I called at 7:05. After I got there it went to $ 76 10 minutes later. Oh it’s after hours now! It was after hours when I called! I definitely will not go back even though it is the closest to me. Not impressed at all.

Hello Doctor Luke, sorry for the delay. Sadly, I HAVE been to your clinic before. Will never be back again! I have NO IDEA how in the heck you have been in business for 35 years. You are an extremely GREEDY, rude, and manipulative person. A lot of my friends are pet owners; not one of them has had a good experience with you. How many people leave your office screaming and cussing after receiving estimate after estimate from you? It’s not like my review is the only one that talks about your greed. I understand that businesses need to make money, and if you seriously think that the way to talk to people is acceptable, you need a serious head check. Perhaps you have Psychopathic personality disorder.
Expressed my opinion while I was in your office. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me on for forum. Last time we spoke, all you did was ignore what ever I said then re-​word it to your best interest. Your place of business should be SHUT DOWN!

Do not, I repeat DO NOT bring your pets here. Luckily, I’ve only had one experience here however many local friends have horror stories of being completely taken advantage of and treated poorly here. One friend was actually called by this place after writing a Unilocal review, was asked if she wrote multiple reviews and was then asked what they could do do get her to change it. Wow.
From my own personal experience, I was charged an exuberant amount for a simple check up. I was talked down to and treated poorly when I asked a few questions (staff member actually rolled their eyes at me). This place is exceptionally greedy and these reviews speak for themselves.

Wanted a ridiculous amount of money to clean my dogs ears, and then tried to guilt us into getting her teeth cleaned… Took her to another Vet and her teeth/​gums were deemed perfect health. All they want is your money. So sad considering they are in a great convenient location for the few thousands of military that are in the area that have pets, they would have plenty of business without being shady people.

I wouldn’t take my dog anywheres else. She is a fabulous and caring doctor that really knows how to treat your animal in any emergency situation. Thank you Dr Luke for taking such good care of my dog.

I took my cocker spaniel in to see Dr. Luke about his ears. They smelled… bad. She walked me through the whole ear infection situation along with some dietary changes that might help. The treatment helped his ears, they were so painful if you pet them, he’d cry. So much better now. The dietary changes definitely helped his skin. He’s still smelly, just not nearly as bad. My wife really appreciates that. Thanks to Dr. Luke and her team.

Our new puppy needed his neutering and shots so we decided to try this place out. They have a very friendly and helpful staff. Answered all of our questions and addressed all of our concerns. We will definitely be coming back to see them. Thanks guys!

So I recently moved to San Diego. I work as a F18 electrician in the Marines and tend to travel a lot. My husband and my dog moved in with me in military housing and are just settling in. Within 2 weeks of moving to San Diego I noticed my dog was always whining as if she was in a lot of pain. I wasn’t familiar with the San Diego area and I didn’t have any friends or family members to give me any recommendations on Veterinarians so I took to the internet.
On google reviews people said this place was amazing and very loving to animals. I wouldn’t say I am on a super budget but I also don’t want it to cost me an arm and a leg. On my appointment I spoke to the technician about what needed to be done to my dog and prices. They told me we could get my dogs ears cleaned for $ 300. My dog also needed to get her teeth done but that would be $ 600 plus the $ 300 for the ears. She worked with me a bit more and said if I did the ears and teeth at the same time that it would be $ 600 for both. I told her I would call my husband and ask first.
Within half an hour I got back to her and told her I would do the $ 600 for both teeth and ears. Since I was also active in the military I asked if they offered a military discount? They said yes they had a 5% discount. I thought that was unfair. I go shop at Lowes and get 10% for being in the military. 5% doesn’t even cover tax. But I got over it fast. Who cares about military discount, my dog won’t be in pain for much longer.
When I finally got the bill I was shocked! They charged me a little over $ 900!!! I spoke to the girl Dee who worked there because apparently Dr. Luke wasn’t in. Dee told me that because I waited half an hour to give them an answer that they had already put the appointment in as a single ear cleaning and the dental separate instead of together like the technician had told me. Dee had the nerve to say, «Well your dog is taken care of right? Isn’t that what really matters?» Oh. she is lucky I didn’t go off. On top of that I didn’t receive my military discount. I have been trying to get a hold of Dr Luke for weeks now but she is either always «Too busy» or not in to take my calls. If you don’t want to be scammed do not come here!

So my wife and I are about to move to Spain… we went to this Vet asking if there was anything we needed to do to have our dog ready to enter the country. The Doc told us that they verified everything and said we were set and that we wouldn’t need to do anything else. Come to find out a couple months later when we are about a month away from moving that our dog does not meet all of the requirements to enter Spain. Thank you Tierrasanta Veterinary for boning us and for losing our dogs record…

I was not ready to go to try a new vet. I really gave the receptionist a hard time on my first few visits. I also played 20 questions with Dr. Luke to find out what she really knew. I was pleased with her answers and the calm attitudes from the receptionists. Thank God, they knew what they were talking about and really care for the animals. It is a relief to have a vet now that is not in a hurry to just drug up my cats. When I brought in the cats due to a digestive issue, they first checked the diet, rather than suggesting to medicate the cat. (As a different vet was quick to drug the cats.)
Dr. Luke, also let my to-​be step-​son use the stethoscope to listen to the cats heart rate. And she explained the difference of heart rate between humans and animals. She has also shared about her family. This personable experience finally won me over to post something positive.
They also, have worked with us concerning financing allowing the CareCredit option of 0% for 6 months. This I appreciate as well.

Worst vet I’ve ever been to! I wish I could go 0 stars! After telling her that we moved across the country and I thought my dog had allergies to something here, I told her I brought my dog in as soon as possible because I was so worried bShe asked me if I considered my dog a «pet» or as part of the family. She was so rude. She tried to make me get hundreds of dollars worth of tests done when a simple antibiotic did the trick. They also guilted me in to buying their pet food! I wouldn’t recommend sending anyone to this witch!

This place is extremely GREEDY!!! I’m shocked as pet owner who LOVES their animals as if they were her kids their prices are outrageous!!! My dog ate chocolate and they kept on insisting on a million tests he did not need! Pls take your pet somewhere else!!! BUYER BEWARE! Read the filtered reviews and then go to grand animal hospital where I’ve never been up sold once! And my pets are completely healthy!!!
FYI I also saw a poster in the hallway marking where they were marking their quota for the month AND they will call you like crazy even after I told them after I found another vet! I finally told them I moved away to get them to stop calling! SLIMEY!
