The Westin San Diego

The airline lost my luggage and the front desk went out of their way to get me things I needed for the night. She felt bad for my situation so she even changed my room to one with a great view. I will definitely stay here whenever I’m in San Diego!
The room was very nice and clean and the entire staff was very nice and helpful. I only have positive things to say about my stay.

We stayed here for new years eve week and had a very pleasant stay. The location was great because it was downtown and a bit away from the gaslamp district which was too busy and grittier. But everything was still in walking distance. The staff was helpful and room was clean and to the general quality of a westin. Onsite parking is $ 44 per day which is valet only and $ 25 across the street for overnight parking which was convenient.

I came here for New Year’s Eve and the price was acceptable for its location. It’s definitely cheaper than the Westin a few blocks away, located IN the Gaslamp District.
Valet parking was $ 44/​night and had in and out privileges. There’s a parking structure across the street which was $ 25/​night, but didn’t have in and out privileges. So take your pick. Parking is pricey but that’s to be expected in a city.
The location is convenient, within walking distance to Gaslamp. The room was clean and the view was nice but the room is not the most modern/​up-​to-​date. For platinum SPG members, be warned: there is NO lounge, but the premium wifi is a decent speed.
Overall, the hotel was perfect for us as we wanted to be walking distance for New Years. This is also a convenient location for business travelers working in the downtown San Diego area and is likely 4 stars for these folks. For general tourists, it may be more cost-​effective to stay outside of downtown, such as Coronado.

Just spent another wonderful weekend at this hotel. They just never disappoint!!! Good tip is order the cheeseburger from the restaurant. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s the best you will ever have. Staff just amazing and our view was priceless…

44.00 a night for parking… Ugh. Construction going on. Rooms were average and the water pressure was horrible!!! I mean really bad. It would take me a few minutes to wash my hands properly.

I came here for my boyfriend’s company party & had a good time!
The banquet room was large, the tables were beautifully decorated with succulent center pieces, a projector played with pictures, & there was a spacious dance floor with a DJ. The music was decent, could have been better. The sound system definitely could have been better because is was rough on the ears. Outside the banquet room were bartenders serving holiday cocktails & 2 photo booths. The bars directly outside the banquet room were cash only so many went downstairs to the bar where they took credit cards & had televisions, perfect for those watching sporting events.
The food was average but thankfully, came out quickly, about 20 minutes after the party started, because my boyfriend & I were starving!

I gave this place a 4 due to no microwaves in rooms! It just doesn’t make much sense to me considering that there’s a refrigerator inside the room. I’ve been here for almost 9 days on a business trip! My trainer did a great job picking this hotel. The beds are soft and totally comfortable. The housekeepers are friendly and very easy to access! I haven’t experienced the 3^rd floor in which the pool is located! The weather here has been a bit chilly since my arrival! All is good here except not have a microwave! This place is bad if you have a shopping spree problem, the mall is next door along with the post office just in case you are using the airlines!

A few blocks away from the center of the Gaslamp District which is a plus … a perfect spot to enjoy the night life but also get away from the busy streets at night. Great concierge services and check-​in was a breeze. Sounds like a perfect hotel to stay at, right? Wrong again.
I would have liked to say that for the past 4 years I have had a wonderful experience but I guess it will only be the past 3 years and this year was just an utter disappointment. I normally celebrate my birthday here every year, a quick out of town get away with all my friends. Never once have I had a problem. I booked the presidential suite which is on the top floor by itself to be away from all the other rooms for a fun time with friends. The staff was a tremendous help with blocking out 15+ rooms for all my friends to stay for the weekend and everything was going smoothly up until we met Amanda Rios, the hotel front desk manager.
So here is the reason why I wouldn’t stay here again. You pay all the money to be away from everyone so that you are not disrupting anyone and yet you get the rudest, most disrespectful hotel staff I have ever come across in my life time of staying in hotels and there have been many. To walk in with her head so high, barking demands in front of everyone was completely unprofessional and not how any guest should be treated. If you are in the hospitality industry you should learn patience and manners and anything that needs to be addressed should have been addressed calmly and directed to the registered guest itself. Promoting that the room had a sound system on their website but yet at 8 o’clock was told we were too loud when we were all sitting around watching a fight on TV. Now why would you promote a sound system if you can’t even turn it up? And the most ridiculous part of the weekend was evicting the registered guest that came from out of town at 3 am when coming back from a night out. Can you imagine where an out of town guest would be able to go at that time of night? Apparently Amanda was not concerned at all.
So if you plan on having an event in the Gaslamp area, I wouldn’t recommend staying in a hotel where you are expected to tip toe your way through the building. Starwood, I will definitely mark this as the worst hotel ever. I know I will never plan another stay at this hotel in the area for my birthday next year or anytime I visit San Diego.

I usually don’t write reviews but this is something I have to address regarding the unprofessionalism of the manager Angela or Amanda. I can’t really remember her name, but our group came out from Los Angeles for our friends birthday, we booked 15+ rooms, plus the presidential suite and for no explainable reason she decided to kick us all out of our rooms at 3 am in the morning, even though we had a whole
Floor for ourselves, and we didn’t get a warning or any professional treatment or explanation for why we had to leave the hotel at 3 am! We all had our own rooms and we celebrated our friends birthday the third year in the row in the westin and it was always a good experience but this time the professionalism really lacked and I’m more than disappointed in how the management handles problems !!!

**THIS IS A REVIEW FOR THE RESTAURANT ONLY**
A few of us jurors came in for lunch around 1:30pm. It was pretty much empty inside, maybe just 3 ppl waiting to get their checks. We had 8 in our party and sat outside to get some fresh air.
Once seated, approximately 3 wait persons came to our tables. They took our orders and off they went to complete the orders. That’s where things started getting pretty shoddy. So…
The waiter refilled one of our Sprites with a Coke.
All the orders came out except for mine, and upon asking about it the waitress looked surprised, and told me it was coming out soon. It came out about 10 minutes later… INCORRECT. They had given me a fruit salad when I never asked for one (I wanted a green side salad).
Since they took so long to get us our food, we had to scarf down or food so fast and ask for the checks when the came out, so that we could make it back from lunch on time. Still waiting after some time, we decided to be proactive and come check on the checks ourselves. The waitress was barely getting them ready and even forgot about some of us. We could have just literally walked out.
Keep in mind, by the time we left, we were the ONLY ONES they were serving. No excuse that they had multitask other tables.
To top it all off, I was looking forward to finally eating the rest of my sandwich when I got home, since they took so long to get it to me earlier that day. What did I find though??? A fruit juice-​soaked BLT sandwich, totally INEDIBLE, because our terrible waitress had somehow just thought that «…hey, maybe packing bread and juice together in one container would be a great idea!» Buh bye $ 16 sandwich! I think I got to eat like $ 4 of it.
My advice is… don’t eat here. Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE service. Totally inept staff and prices much too high for the service. I’m really disappointed in the Westin for hiring staff of that level. I can’t imagine actually staying here if the restaurant is this bad!
TIP:
–They automatically slap on service/​gratuity charges. Worst, they don’t even tell you! We happened to catch it when we signed our checks.
–They do offer a small discount for jurors. Even so, I don’t recommend this place. Too many other greater and better alternatives on the same block!

I was in San Diego celebrating my birthday weekend and we decided to stay at the Westin. We were driving down from la, and we got to the hotel earlier than expected, so we decided to try and check in early. The concierge (I believe her name was Theresa) was super friendly and let us check in early with no problems!
The only reason why I didn’t give the hotel 5 stars is because parking was 44 a night, which is pretty absurd. There is a parking lot, however, across the street for 25 dollars a night. (without in and out privileges, so if you don’t plan on using your car, I suggest you park it there. Make sure you read the sign on when your car must be in and out by to get that rate)
The room was great, 2 double beds (which feel like heaven by the way, I didn’t want to get up from the bed it was so comfortable), a view of the pool and the bathroom was nice and clean. The waterfall shower head was amazing!
The location is less than a mile from the gas lamp district, so don’t feel forced to stay in gas lamp. It was about a 20 min walk, 5 minute über ride.
Overall, the hotel was great, staff was friendly and I will definitely recommend this hotel to others and book with them again!

Spent our wedding anniversary here, service fell flat on its face — especially for the price.
Issues: asked for chocolate strawberries & wine to be sent to our room at 9am … Waited … Waited somemore till it was 1030a and i called downstairs to find out what the deal was, guy sounded clueless said he’ll call me back, waited until almost 12, i went downstairs to the concierge and they apologized and asked me when they can bring it up, pretty much ruined the suprise of it. They did cover that bill due to their mistake.
The sink would make weird gurgling /​burping noises.
We asked for our room to be cleaned while we were gone, when we came back the room smelled like someone who needed a bath and deodirint. My wife pretty much sprayed all her perfume around the room.
My daughter spilled water on the sheets that soaked on the bed took 3 hours for someone to come up, i guess they gave the housekeeper the wrong room #, but when she came some other lady came demanding the sheets to show her supervisor? 3 hours later though…
All in all i would not come back, sorry not so sorry.

I stayed here for total of 9 hours. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. There are a lot of good craft beers in their lobby bar. The front desk was awesome.
The only thing that sucks is their valet is $ 44…but I guess that is to be expected for the location.
I would stay here again.

Good stay, it’s pretty quiet after around 10pm during the week, it is far enough away from the gaslamp district but short 20 – 30 minute walk to it. The staff that I interacted with are friendly, efficient and pleasant to deal with and very helpful. They have yummy fruit water for when you get back which is always a nice touch to return back to your temporary home. I didn’t visit the rooftop pool but could see it from my room and it seemed to get a steady stream of people all evening so it must be pretty nice to visit. I would stay here again, I think this one has a larger lobby area than the other Horton Plaza Westin and this one gives you a robe, not sure if the other did or not I don’t recall it though.

Stayed night of May 24^th from Orange County, CA
for the Rolling Stones concert. Very friendly and accommodating front end staff. Very clean and spacious room on seventeenth floor. Excellent breakfast buffet with fresh hot and cold food and Starbucks coffee. The wait staff was fast and efficient.
If you are looking for a great downtown location convenient to Amtrak and SD Trolley (two blocks away,) this is the place for you. Also, if you are a lover of craft beer, there is a Karl Strauss Brewery a block away with great drafts and very good burgers.

So, I’ve got simple standards for hotels. You all start at three, then you add the little things to push you over the top or little things will drop you from that 3. The Westin does a little bit good, but unfortunately yet another hotel with a horrible AC Unit. Why do AC units all have to be so chunky and loud? I like a little noise in the room, but the rattling was pretty annoying.
Fortunately keeping the TV up loud was enough to drown it out. So that was –1 Star. But the Westin has a lot going for it too! A great staff, I didn’t meet a single person who wasn’t great.
The building itself was also in good shape, and in a nice part of town, not too far from the Gas Lamp. If you’re in a room with a nice air conditioner, then this is probably a nice property for you.
The «Good» views were okay, I think if you’re looking for a view, then there might be better options out there for ya.

As a Starwood member, an upgrade and early checkin has always been a guarantee as far as my experience. And they have yet to disappoint me.
Great location in downtown SD with awesome views. Valet. Bellman services. Friendly staff all around — Courteous housekeeping, in room dining staff were wonderful, kitchen delivery staff were prompt and kind (pool side services). The bartender at the bar was pleasant. 24 hr fitness center. Pool area was not the best. But everything else was great.
My room had a great view. Comfy bed and beddings. Mini fridge included. With complementary two bottled water.
Solid 4 star accommodations with a 5 star customer service!

GREAT hotel in all aspects.
Very friendly staff. Ultra comfortable bed with their heavenly bed collection. Nice gym. Nice big new HDTV in the room. Great shower with 2 shower heads. I had a gorgeous view of the bay from the 18^th floor. The ONLY negative I found is the parking. The hotels only option is $ 40 a night valet. I parked across the street for $ 25 a night. But, you can walk to anywhere downtown within a few minutes.
Will definitely return. Easy 5 stars.

Based on my previous review and my gripes with the service regarding a wedding that i attended, I have to deduct a star b/​c I spoke with the groom of that wedding and the customer service from the hotel was just horrible. He expressed his same concerns (privately via email to the hotel itself) about general reception disappointments and the abrasive serving staff including an instance where an actual wedding guest felt so shamed and embarrassed by a staff member that she left the reception before dinner…
and the hotel pretty much shrugged him off without much of an apology or explanation. They spent a great deal of money here not only with the actual wedding but with booking multiple rooms, dining at the hotel establishments and overall boosting the revenue for the entire weekend and to have been treated with such disregard is really disappointing. Oh and on top of that the couple said that they pretty much had a non responsive hotel wedding coordinator which affected the planning process and definitely hurt the actual wedding reception as well. For any future couples considering this westin for your wedding, just be aware of these issues that we experienced. It could make your dream day turn into a nightmare…

Better experience this time around compared to my previous visit.
We arrived early and wanted to see if a room was available. The Front Desk Agent who assisted us was the sweetest and most helpful agent I’ve ever encountered. She also accommodated our request for two double beds instead of a king. We told her we brought our dogs along and she happily offered the Heavenly Pets package to be brought to our room once it was available. She took down my number and said she would call me as soon as the room was ready.
We decided to stroll around the Seaport Village and once we left there, it was as if the Hotel knew we were ready and fortuitously got the call to inform us the room was ready. Once we returned, we retrieved our luggage from the Bell Desk and headed up to our room, which was the SPG level and it was just a few feet from the elevator and ice machine. Sure enough, the Heavenly Pet Bed was waiting for Maxie. Francine didn’t need a bed since she usually sleeps with us… that spoiled b*tch.
The bar still offers Happy Hour and the lobby has the fruit-​flavored water cooler station in the afternoon. It’s perfect especially walking in the sunny and gorgeous San Diego weather on a summer day. On the Happy Hour, I don’t think the locals know much about this bar and they should.
As mentioned in my previous review, the location of this hotel is close to everything and they even have a park a couple of blocks away where we can have the dogs take care of their business.
On a side note: I think San Diego is the only city that has poo bags available on every block. Well, I’m exaggerating, but this 4 block square around this hotel had them everywhere.
The Valet staff was helpful and fast. The Bell Desk was friendly, and the Front Desk staff made us feel so comfortable and at ease. It was a Heavenly experience this time around. Of course anytime you’re in San Diego it’s always Heavenly.
