My grandmother (pistol) had a valve replacement. She was awesome in the hospital! Alert, hungry, talkative. The second I dropped her off, I called my mom complaining that I felt I left her, (please excuse me) «in a bunker at Auschwitz». And I was proven right a week later.
We did not receive the California mandated paperwork, no official welcome, no follow ups with Dr.‘s, or proper care. I brought it to the attention of the managers. There was a 2 day improvement.
But once my grandmother had lost 12 lbs in 4 days, she had a follow up appointment for the surgery. They immediately checked her into the ER! She was there for a week!
Irregular heart beat, bladder and kidney infections, medication off, along with a laundry list of problems.
The Springs is in the business of letting seniors die! Please don’t allow your relatives, loved ones, or anyone to go there.
Luckily grandma will be ok.

A relative stayed at The Springs on numerous occasions several years ago. Her experience was excellent, without any complaint. Another relative stayed there recently for several weeks and that experience was vastly different.
– Upon arrival, this relative was placed in a room and it took two hours before anyone from the facility came by to check up on him.
– He did not get an ID bracelet until four days into his stay. He was administered medication during these days without anyone confirming that he was the patient who should get them.
– The facility is dirty. The equipment is dirty. When my relative’s catheter bag was changed, a large puddle of urine was left on the floor. I cleaned it up with a washcloth.
– The staff was often engaged in personal conversation when I approached the nurses’ station. I had to interrupt their conversation about the weekend in order to ask for help.
– My relative complained many times about «being handled roughly» by the aids, even though he asked that they be more gentle. This broke my heart.
– There was just 24 inches around his bed that comprised his «half» of the room. I had to scoot sideways in order to get around his bed.
– Every time I visited, there was the same female patient at the nurses’ station in a wheel chair. She seemed to spend all her time there. Sometimes she was nude, and all the staff ignored her. Appalling.
– My relative will eat anything, not at all picky. However, he could only choke down one meal in three during his stay here. He lost weight.
The occupational and physical therapy provided at The Springs is good. It’s just too bad that patients are there ²⁴⁄₇ and get good treatment one hour out of that time.
When my other relative was at The Springs, it was a 1-​star facility, and they were trying desperately to become a 5-​star facility again. Now it has its 5 stars and it’s a dump. Fortunately this time my relative didn’t have to stay there long. If he has to go into skilled nursing again, we will look for somewhere else.

My mother, my family and Dr Perera are very great full for all you and your staff does. Each PT/​OT person is very dedicated and concerned about my mom and her safety and progress. This has helped to speed up my moms recovery and allowed her to overcome some of her obstacles. She especially feels most confidant with ED who is our favorite member of your team
We always receive The Springs 5 STAR experience. My parents have stayed with The Springs 6 times over the past few years. They love the staff and always receive a very warm personal greeting to welcome them back and actually every day. The place is beautiful. Large windows and beautiful rooms. Very open and very soothing.
As a potential residents, you can have the ease of mind, that you or your loved ones will be taken care of
Director Taylor Florence is very accessible at all times. I ran into him working the front desk when the receptionist was on vacation. The staff shared the shifts.
PT Director Matt Scott and Ed perform amazing transformations and are great healers.
Our most FAVORITE is Director of Nursing Vera Cordova. Vera single handedly has saved my mothers life. Vera is accessible, brilliant, kind, compassionate and a wonderful healer and administrator. My mother insists on rehabbing at The Springs so she can be under Vera’s superior care. I text with Vera and Sheila her «right hand» whenever I have questions. They answer 100% of the time.
Our most recent stay at the Springs has allowed me to work closely with Ro the Case Manager. He has facilitated my mothers every medical need seamlessly with kindness and grace. Bless him. He is always available and is very solution oriented.

This place is amazing. The nursing staff is fantastically attentive. The rehab department is so good at what they do. I saw my own progress everyday. The social services department arranged all of my outside care and when I was deemed ready to leave I felt entirely ready and well cared for. I recommend this place to everyone I know who needs top notch care.

My daughter and I are rescuing my wife from The Springs tonight after being there for over a week to recover from knee replacement surgery. It is a pleasant, clean place. The staff is cheerful but of dubious competence and woefully unable to asses or respond to patient needs. The doctor allegedly on duty during business days (and hours) is invisible and equally unfamiliar with the patients. Today was the last straw. Yesterday, my wife’s blood pressure had dropped suddenly and inexplicably shortly after what she thought were her meds had been administered. It was so low that when she stood up to try to do her daily therapy (yes, there are OT and PT therapists who are good on the whole,) she fainted. We insisted that the doctor be located to see if she’d been given hypertension medication by mistake. He finally showed up this morning, ordered a saline I.V., urine and blood samples, regular tests of her vital signs through the day and said he’d think some more about what might be the problem tonight when he had the test results. What happened? The nurse inserted the I.V. tube but forgot to check to see if the solution was flowing properly. It was not. She lay with the needle in her arm for five hours with no infusion of solution. The urine sample was gathered but sat at the nurses station all day and was never forwarded for testing. The blood sample was never taken. Worst of all, her vital signs were not checked again all day. The usual bland food trays were cheerfully delivered to her bed and taken away as usual, but no one provided the least amount of «skilled nursing» care. We must self-​discharge tonight, because the doctor had said it was unsafe to release her until the «skilled» medical care had stabilized her blood pressure and he had a chance tonight to examine the test results and form a course of treatment. If he bothers to look, he won’t have any test results. This means that we leave without her meds and with no assurance from the medical staff that it is safe to do so. WE DECIDED IT WAS SAFER TO NURSE HER AT HOME THAN TO RELY FURTHER ON SUCH FLAMING INCOMPETENCY.

My 80 year old father was sent here to recover from severe pnemonia and ended up back in the hospital with pnemonia after 3 weeks at the Springs. Although it looks beautiful on the outside the patient care was severely lacking. A couple of the patients hired private CNAs to provide them the care and oversight they weren’t getting from the facility. I have no complaints about PT or OT services, however, if you expect the nurses or CNAs to assist with rehabilitation you’ve come to the wrong place. Not once did they walk my father down the hall despite having doctor’s orders to do so twice per day. I was told it wasn’t their job. When he was admitted to the hosp from the Springs no one bothered to contact me to. I kept trying to call his room but no answer. Instead I received a message from the Springs asking if I wanted to pay privately to hold his bed while in the hosp. When I called back they didn’t even know what hosp he was admitted to or what condition he was in. I would highly recommend another facility.

I have worked with this skilled nursing facility for a couple years now. They have always done a wonderful job, but they keep doing much better. I work with Ron and Shelina, both of which are always very professional and is sure to make sure that everyone under his watch is taken care of.

I wish I could give them no stars because they do not deserve even one star. My mother was going in for simple strength training. The Physical therapy department was wonderful but the rest of the staff was lazy and uncaring. My mother was admitted there for weakness and multiple falls. Do you think they would have her close to the nurses station with a bed alarm. No of course not! Here is a shocker she was at the end of the hall furthest from the nurses station and they would forget to put her bed alarm on and she fell twice.
My mother entered that facility alert, oriented and walking in a walker. I broke her out 15 days incoherent, dehydrated, obtunded with pneumonia. She was supposed to stay there longer but I believe in my heart she would be dead if she stayed any longer.
It is amazingly beautiful but it is just lipstick on a pig if the staff is burned out and over loaded. They charge $ 9500.00 a month for crappy service. My dog got better care at Happy Camp for dogs than my mother did in this hole.

Getting information on medicine prescribed by the facility is difficult

Oh what a drag this place is. My Mom went from a hospital room with a flatscreen TV, around the clock staffing, and decent food (even in the cafeteria) to here. Nothing has been updated in at least 20 years. Old TV’s on a swing arm, dining room furniture without any padding, stained couches… and the food. I thought Mom was just being Mom and over-​exagerating so I joined her for a meal in the dining room. What a process, 1) figure out how to purchase a meal. 2) choose between two less than appealing dinners 3) find Moms food that was suppossedly sent to her room 4) eat cold, unappetizing, overcooked, yuck! 5) coffee anyone? anyone? anyone? Sorry I doubted you Mom!
I read a glowing review on my I-​pad and almost fell off my chair, new management, where? They all leave at 4:30pm, in fact when I came in I had to enter through the Condominium tower next door because their lobby is closed. This place is the pits with one exception … my Mom’s physical therapist :) You need to work somewhere else, this place cuts so many corners that you cant possibly be getting paid anywhere near what your worth. So glad Mom recovered, perhaps the negatives were a positive to get well… fast!

When my elderly father took a bad fall and wound up in the hospital, I asked the social services woman in the hospital to send him to the best rehab place she knew of. She said to me «This is the place I would want my father in.»
From the moment I drove to the regent and found their complimentary valet parking. I knew my dad had wound up in a plush place.
but what I hadn’t counted on was how kind and personable the employees at Pac regent would be.
A petite and somewhat adorable woman named Kahn Ho who is a manager there, not only personally checked up on my dad but also when he had to be admitted to a hospital for 5 days with ulcer problems, picked me at my hotel and drove me to see him.
I live in NYC, far away and flew to be with my dad for two weeks. For two weeks I was living in the nearby Hyatt. I did not have a car. Kahn would call to ask if I needed a lift anywhere. She drove me to buy hearing aid batteries for my dad and anything else I asked for.
When I finally had to go home to NY, she called me regularly to update me on my dad’s condition.
There was another Great person Ed Mcarthy who I believe is Kahns supervisor, even though he is a senior management person, he came in visit my dad regularly and even helped him use the bathroom. My dad fell in love with Ed and would brighten up every time he walked into dad’s room.
There was a lovely woman in social services there named Karen, I think her last name was blunting or something close. She made sure dad got all the things medicare would provide and was on hand for advice and help along the way.
I also met a social services person named Gretchen who not only visited my dad when he was in the hospital but helped me find a great home-​care agency for when my dad would be released. Gretchen even coached me on how to make the home safe for dad’s new needs.
I thought I would be scared when I had to go back to NYC and leave my dad with strangers, but very quickly I found that the people at Pac Regent are more like family then strangers.
I don’t know if you have had the experience yet of watching your parents become elderly and fragile but it’s a scary, sad experience.
My father was frightened after his bad fall and looked at all the new faces, un-​steady and un-​sure.
Now five weeks later, he calls his favorite nurse Ronaldo, the famous Ron.
He shouts out to Ed, there’s my Ed!
He is regaining his strength due to all the rehab they have given him
and the color in his face has come back.
«I feel safe here,» Dad said when I asked how he was.
I should also mention that food is a big issue for dad.
Not only does he keep kosher, very hard to find kosher food in san diego
but he is a super fussy eater.
A woman named Joey who runs the kitchen, made sure he got kosher food
and checked with him daily as to his needs.
A kosher, lactose intolerant, not spicy, easy to chew, hates rice, likes apple pie diet
was prepared just for dad.
I joined him in the dining room for dinner many times and you know what.

a fairly pleasant one and for making me feel so much less frightened.

Well what does one say when they made a huge mistake by looking at how nice the place looks instead of what the rating posted was?
I’ll TRY to be brief.
My family member was transferred there to be rehabilitated.
When we checked in, showed up and was directed to a room. «She’s in xxx.» No welcome, no hello. Squat. No introductions.
We settled our family member in and then saw there was MOVIE night that night. So… we ask where she needs to go. They pointed me in the direction of movie night… and said if no one was there, to just hit the «play» button and leave her there. Seriously? Leave her in the room without anyone around?
I should have known right then. Take her and leave. Just go.
But nooooo.
So there were several things that occurred over a two-​week period of time. Brought it up to RNs and staff (all ignored because apparently I don’t know my family member as well as they do). Kept saying «something is WRONG.» No one gave a crap or wrote anything down. Kept telling me she was fine. (BTW…if you end up with Ellen as your loved-one’s head nurse, hire someone to sit with the person you have there. She’s awful. Never smiles, is rough and just all around completely unapproachable. She should be stocking shelves at WalMart in the twilight hours — not taking care of PEOPLE.)
Will say the one star I gave the place is for Mary — a CNA who actually cared about what she was doing and about her patients.
I spent TIME there. I was not a person who checked her in and left her in the care of someone and disappeared. What I SAW was appalling. Could I just check her out? Nope… Medicare guidelines. I can’t provide ²⁴⁄₇ care and to just get her out and take her someplace else wasn’t in the cards.
So…just to wrap it up, my family member has been readmitted to the hospital and has no time frame of getting out at this point.
When you see the «rating» in the lobby of someplace, pay attention to it. It may be a pretty place but there’s a reason for the rating.
If you need to hear more, I can tell you because there is LOTS more to tell but I’m sure no one wants to read a tome of the stuff I saw and experienced first hand. But do yourself a favor, avoid this place like the plague. It’s a beautiful setting but your loved one is going to be treated like garbage. We’re still waiting to see if my our family member recovers. I should have known when she was telling me «get me out of here.»
And as far as the place being a «resort,» as a previous writer said… not even close. Daily activities were not offered when I was there. Yes, they’re on the board of «things to do» but never did anyone come in and ask if we wanted to participate. And the time we were cruising through the independent living area, after getting a hair appt, and stopped to watch the person singing Christmas carols — we were asked to LEAVE. My sister just about blew a fit on the woman. Honest to God… SERIOUSLY? It’s friggin CHRISTMAS. Most of the white-​hairs in the independent living have no idea wtf is coming their way via ONE CLOT. If they did, they would have been more gracious.
And grace is what they’re going to need when they end up next door at the Springs.

New Ownership, New Managment, it’s a whole new world. I interviewd a dozen rehab centers before selecting this one two months ago, and I am glad that I did.
Here are some things you should know:
1. Rehab professionals are outstanding, they really know their stuff. Maria especially is kind and motivating.
2. Nurses and CNA’s are kind to the residents EVEN when no one is looking (I left my cell phone turned on in the room so I could hear what was going on)
3.BOTH the admissions officer Khan & Karen and the exit officer are excellent, really know their stuff, giving tips and suggestions that saved us a huge amount of money.
4. the Food: OMG: Last week the residents were served Leg of Lamb for dinner one night, and fresh caught salmon for lunch the next day. I am so pleased my loved one is eating BETTER THAN I AM! Great chef! For a nominal fee the staff wants you to join your loved one for any meal, and many of us do. No kidding, the food is terrific!
5. Daily entertainment, activities, religious opportunities, ice cream socials, etc, etc etc.
6. AND, MY VERY FAVORITE: You, the family, are WELCOME to walk in at ANYTIME of the day or night to check on your loved one. Really, they told me this repeatedly. And, so I did. BUt, be aware that the front gate on the parking lot closes at 8.30 pm and you have to call to security to get in. ANDD they evem have valet parking, too!
SUMMARY: This place is practically A RESORT!!! A resort where you get well !

My sister stayed in the skilled nursing portion of this facility, with the intention of being weaned off oxygen and getting physical rehab to help her walk again after a long bout of pneumonia. According to the tour and literature, the «care team» would meet with the patient to discuss her goals and prepare her to return to her own living environment. It never happened. After a week, they picked a seemingly random date for my sister’s release, although they had not yet even attempted to wean her off the oxygen or prepare her for the few stairs she would have to maneuver once she got home. I appealed her discharge through Medicare, and my appeal was granted. However, from the date the facility had already determined she would be released, they provided her with no further physical rehab, and even put a woman with dementia – who clearly should not have been mixed in with the general population – in her room. The case manager was rude, uncooperative, and full of misinformation about the Medicare appeals process.
