This is my favorite place in San Diego. The food is always amazing, and it’s the perfect nightcap to a busy day. Comfortable, friendly and lovely. They have seasonal salads which are always good, and interesting. You cannot go wrong with the flatbreads — their crust is always on point.

I’ll be honest, I’ve been called a ‘wine snob’ yes I’m picky about my drinks in general but nothing is more scrutinized than wine. The Rose always has something I greatly enjoy, relaxed atmosphere and a West facing patio to boot, which makes it great day or night.

The Rose has a surprisingly extensive wine list. I had a salad with mustard greens and roasted veggies with feta. It was one of the best salads I have had for a long time. The empanadas were amazing and a fresh flaky pastry. I’ll be back soon.

It’s more like 4.5 stars. First, practically everything on the«bites» menu is either gluten-free or can be made so including the flatbreads. But I seem to be eating arugula this week, so I opted for the arugula, beet, and burrata salad. My husband chose the chickpea and roast veggie salad; I stole a bite. Both salads were generously sized and the dressings were both light, flavorful, and not too vinegary. The Pinot noir from Willamette Valley was not quite what we’ve come to expect from that region, a little too raw still.

This is one of my favorite spots in South Park. It’s small but comfortable, the menu isn’t overwhelming and the food is really good. I’m a big fan of anything meat and cheese related, so I’d recommend the meat and cheese boards. I get the chorizo, salami and goat cheese. The flatbread it comes with is perfectly warm and soft. Make sure you order a side of chimmichurri to go along with it, you will not be disappointed. The best thing is the portions aren’t huge, but you will find yourself being satisfied, but not stuffed.

My friend had walked past this place a couple of times and suggested it for our Saturday brunch. I am guilty of always checking out Unilocal reviews, seeing how many reviews a place has, checking out the menu and knowing what I want to eat before I even get to a place. This works for finding good food for the most part. It does not work for discovering hidden gems like The Rose. At first glance, this place did not come off as a brunch place, it was more of a wine and pizza place. Not too many reviews, especially for the brunch items. The brunch menu was not elaborate like a lot of the brunch places in San Diego. My friend got the Carnitas Hash. I got the biscuit, ham and soft boiled egg along with coffee. Always need coffee. I had no idea what to expect. My coffee was the first thing to come out. I was pleasantly surprised that it was an individual french pressed coffee. No refill on the french pressed coffee which made sense. Everything on my breakfast plate was EXTREMELY good. Sage biscuit with honey butter, two soft boiled eggs, side salad. It’s easy to make food good when you carbo-load, deep fry it, cover it with cheese. It takes a different type of restaurant to use simple high quality ingredients to make an amazing meal. That is what The Rose did. Really glad I came to The Rose. Really glad it was not packed like other brunch places in San Diego on a Saturday morning. Exploring all the little shops in South Park after brunch was another post brunch perk.

Yummy. Pizza and waffles good. We ordered separately but I tried both. Good beer on tap. I would recommend for anyone who’s looking for a date spot or a place just to get out. Noticed the extensive wine list so if that is for you there is plenty of options.

I’m going to start this review out by admitting that I don’t drink, so I don’t know how good the wines were. I went here with friend that was indulging in the happy hour wines, he seemed to enjoy them if that helps. I on the other hand enjoyed a delicious can of San Pellegrino. We also decided to get one of their gluten free flatbreads. How cool is it that they have gluten free flatbreads? Well, pretty cool in my humble opinion. It was delightful and filling. I mainly liked the ambience. Very cute, mellow, quirky, cool, and just intimate enough. If I drank this would be my neighborhood spot, no doubt. They also allow dogs outside on the patio, which is neat if you’re into that sort of thing. The servers were friendly and very attentive.

Love love love this place! We probably come in at least once every other week to get our empanada fix(which are AMAZING)! All their food is fantastic, wine selection is great, and I would definitely try to make it in for their Happy Hour. Perfect spot for a date night or girls night out!

Bustling little wine bar in South Park that offers very reasonably priced bottles of wine and tasty charcuterie and cheese boards along with other small plates. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a bottle of prosecco and a meat and cheese board. Perfect for a relaxed Saturday night outing. The ambiance is very inviting but can be on the loud side and a bit difficult to have a conversation if you are with a larger group. They have a few small tables outside, inviting for enjoying a warm summer night with a nice bottle of vino. The service was good and we noticed that if you order by the glass their pours are very generous. Always a plus! We will definitely be visiting again soon. I love finding these understated neighborhood spots away from all the hype and commotion of downtown. The only downside is they close at 11pm, a bit early for a Saturday night if you ask me.

Spectacular, simple(in the best sense of the word) dining. The wine selection is wonderful, which should go without saying. Lovely space, attentive and helpful servers, and gorgeous food. Salads were flavorful and fresh, cheese plate was lovingly appointed, and the pavlova! Heaven on a plate. We’ll go again for sure.

Went to this wine bar one evening for dinner. We arrived without reservation around 9pm on a weekend and only had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Drink service was available during the wait. Upon being seated, I promptly ordered a bottle of wine as I was thirsty. Be warned, there is a $ 8 corkage fee on wine bottles consumed on premises. Now that you have been warned about that, let us discuss the food. As we were not terribly hungry, we ordered the beet salad and a margarita flatbread. The beet salad was large with several types of tasty beets. The beets were fresh and the dressing had the right degree of bitterness. As for the margherita flat bread, it is really more of a pizza which is just cut in squares. It is certainly large enough for two people to split. The crust was thin and light. The sauce was flavorful but not overbearing. In short, this another great pizza/flatbread in South Park. The servers were kind, courteous and knowledgeable. They provided the right amount of attention and made sure drinks and wine glasses were filled. I shall return

My dear friend is something of a big deal, I’m told by many, around South Park, so after a dozen or so times of getting the answer of «I went to The Rose for brunch!» every time I asked what she did over the weekend, I decided it was finally time to try it for myself. It was a rainy Sunday morning and The Rose was pretty empty save for a few handfuls of diners. We took a seat at the bar and were greeted by a delightful woman who seemed to know my friend well. We looked to our left and saw diners with lovely pink flutes and decided to order two jamaica mimosas for ourselves. They were absolutely delicious. I had never had a mimosa with jamaica — I thought it was so original and scrumptious and pretty. While the brunch menu at The Rose is not very extensive, I had a very hard time choosing what I wanted and you will, too, because everything looked so good. I ultimately decided on the avocado toast, which promised creamy, thick slices of avocado on a toasted, thick, slice of crusty bread, served with a poached egg, sea salted and blistered red peppers. Oh my. The description did not disapoint. This dish was an absolute dream. It was the perfect amount of food, too. I can’t wait to return to try something else, although it will be hard to keep myself away from another order of avo toast. I will absolutely be back to The Rose, hopefully sooner rather than later!

Wonderful, local wine bar. Got there for happy hour and enjoyed appetizers(meat and cheese board, empanadas and bravas rosas — all very tasty.) And, of course, wine. I don’t spend a lot of time at wine bars, but will definitely be returning to The Rose.

I’m going to start by saying something that might shock some people, I’m not a huge fan of «pizza». I know, there is some miswiring in my brain that left me without that craving. But ever since I have been here last month I am obsessed with this place. I drool just thinking about their burrata flatbread. The décor is adorable, such a cute date spot. There’s a large special occasion venue attached as well. *High five!

An awesome local business that’s now expanding! I love seeing businesses in this neighborhood do well and expand! The Rose is all you could want from a wine bar, and more. The space is intimate and romantic, with the obligatory bottles of wine racked along all walls, spaced seating, and a small bar in the middle of the room for additional dining. Their wine selection is great, but I think their added beer, cider, and food options really make this place stand out. The flatbreads are spot-on, with toppings like peach and prosciutto, but other menu items show that they really don’t skimp when it comes to quality. The olives, for example– awesome! They pack 4 – 5 different varieties of olives into one serving, and these are not your typical pitted olive varieties(I’m Greek, so I’m a pretty harsh olive judge). The ONLY issue, for us, is the price. Be prepared to spend some serious dough wining and dining! You know that once you start drinking you’re going to want to try the olives, flatbread, empanadas, and why not throw in some dessert? :) As such, I’d recommend checking out this place for happy hour(4:30−6:30 all days) or save a bit of money by ordering a bottle of something you know you like.

Last week two of my girlfriends took me out for a belated birthday brunch. Our reservation was at 11:30, and we were the first group there. The place is small, but adorable. One wall showcases unique bottles of wine, and the other has books and games. If I lived nearby, I would walk over to read, play games, and share a bottle. I enjoyed the peach roses on the tables, and we ordered carafe’s of jamaica(hibiscus) mimosa. The brunch menu is a bit small, and my friend who is allergic to eggs had some trouble ordering, but they made a dish without eggs for her. I ordered and enjoyed the avocado toast, which was served with roasted peppers. They brought out a chocolate waffle dessert with a candle for my birthday, which I thought was really nice and unexpected. The waffle was crispy, and makes me want to order waffles there next time. My favorite part was being able to sit and enjoy our time without feeling rushed at all.

I love the ambiance of this place. Relaxed, quiet, informal. I was there for brunch today and ordered the Carnitas Hash. This is NOT your grandma’s hash. It is wonderful. I have had the Empanadas before, and those were great too. I highly recommend this place.

So, my girlfriend and I have always walked by this place and never actually went inside to try it until it was our first stop during a food tour with A Taste of San Diego. We decided to return after we promised ourselves that we would. We came for the brunch. The menu was small, but our meal was good. I had the carnitas hash and the bloody beer. The hash was delicious. I liked how they left the yolk runny so that i could let it spill over the rest of the dish. That’s ideal, and even therapeutic, in a way. The bloody beer was interesting in a good way. I’ll be honest, I was confused at first. The sight of it told my mind it was like a bloody mary, but when I tasted it, it was definitely a beer. I had to come to terms with it, and it eventually grew on me. I like how they even have some games available, like Monopoly, Game of Life, Trivia Pursuit, etc. We played a casual game of OpenUp, which is simply a container with draw sticks that ask open-ended questions. It was made in the South Park area, and they sell it at Progress next door to The Rose. Very nice ice-breaking activity, and I’m glad we finally got to play that. Would I return? Obviously yes. Nice place to show friends and out-of-towners, and great place to catch up with friends.

In addition to the great wine club they have, the Rose also can make a great flat bread pizza. I came at the onset of happy hour, and ordered a glass of red wine and the Marguerite Flat Bread with Pesto for $ 11, which is $ 2 off the regular price. The flat bread came with freshly sliced tomatoes, some aged Asiago cheese, mozzarella cheese, tomato and pesto sauce on a thinly baked flat bread. The flat bread was quite good. The crust portion was light an thin towards the center but a little thicker and moist towards the ends with a bit of a pleasant chew. The crust had good character and held up well to the ingredients a top. I asked for them to go light on the red sauce but heavy on the pesto. They went light on the red sauce as I asked, but unfortunately they also went light on the pesto as well with a few dabs around the flat bread. The red sauce was good and had a light herbals flavor and the pesto was quite fragrant and flavorful. I wish the flat bread came with more of it. The tomatoes were good and so was the cheese, especially the added shaved Parmesan I requested. It is certainly the way to go post baking. The red wine was quite good and the perfect glass of fermented grapes to go along with many eats, but especially the Marguerite flat bread. I ate at the bar, at the female bar keep was very nice and pleasant to talk to.

I had peach arugula prosciutto flat bread(pizza) and melon feta arugula salad. They were both delicious. Flat bread was thin crust and it was not greasy. I actually came here for my friend’s going away on the weekday and it was very good place to have a small party. The dinner menu is small but good enough to pair with wine. I will be coming back for brunch next time.

I was so excited to check this place out. It has been on my list for sometime now. I must say, at first it is a little intimidating, since they have a lot of options, but the waitress was super helpful! I love that it is actual cheaper to order wine by the bottle, since they charge retail prices. I do believe we paid $ 8 corkage fee for each bottle, but was still a great deal! We also ordered a flatbread… also great! Definitely a great place to go for drinks with friends.

I’ve never been to a wine bar that doesn’t list the year of its wine on the menu. I’ve also never been to a wine bar that charges a corkage fee for it’s own wine. The wait staff also didn’t seem to know the years of their small wine selection. The location is cute and the food is good but a wine bar must function as one properly, not feel that a casual atmosphere means neglecting details.

Disclaimer: I spent almost no time in this restaurant. We went next door to the Stone tasting room, and upon asking if they served food, we were told that The Rose not only served food, but they delivered it to Stone customers. That was great news, so we stopped in and ordered quickly, and just as quickly recieved our food. The atmosphere of the place was nice — it was a dark, mostly quiet room just buzzing with conversations, with lots of comfortable-looking seating around little coffee tables for those just drinking some wine, and regular dining tables as well. The server who helped us was very sweet and helpful as she explained what some of the dishes were. I tried the empanadas, «one of each» — the ground beef and vegetarian. The ground beef was mixed together with potato and lots of spices, and very tasty. The vegetarian was mainly squash-based, and also good. A little steep at $ 9 for the size, though. My friend was pleasantly surprised at how big her flatbread was. It was delicious — asiago cheese, pork belly, broccolini and an egg. They definitely have creative and good food. Will have to stop by next time to try other things!

We went to The Rose for dinner and wine. Their empanadas were sooo good! The wine we had was as expected: expensive but very delicious. When we went in — on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening– there seemed to be only one server and no help outside the kitchen. She did a good job tending to everyone, but she definitely had a lot on her plate.

Went to the southPark Walk about tonight and saw this wine bar next to Stone Bar. The place was cozy, trendy and looked like it had some good flatbreads so we went in to try. The wine selection was large and we settled on a sav blanc that was pretty tasty and $ 8 a glass. We also decided to get a peach and pepper flat bread. It did take a while for the flatbread to arrive at the bar but when it did, it was delightful and had a great amount of flavor. It had goat cheese, bell peppers, roasted peaches, tomatoes and a yummy orange sauce that i cant tell what it was made up of. The chef came out during dinner to ask how we liked out flatbread and tell us more about the menu. He told us that the menu changes seasonally because all the ingredients are grown locally and from San Diego farms. they also have daily empenadas that change so I am intrigued to come back and taste some empenadas.

I miss Jason and Susan, the former owners of this place but I also can appreciate why they left. Family is the most important and you only get to Tango on this earth once. what do you want your legacy to be? Congratulations to Chelsea, the new owner. I loved this place before and I still love this place now. Organic food, delicious wine at reasonable prices with interesting clientele that come in during the week. This place is my hideout. They recently started doing brunch which I think is absolutely lovely. I don’t know if I mentioned this before but Chelsea is a the former Chef of this place. Her salads and flatbreads are amazing. I personally enjoy the brunch because I don’t like to pig out and feel heavy for the rest of the day. I had two soft boiled eggs, with homemade bread, organic salad and homemade herb butter, plenty of food for me and it was good and fresh. They have really good mimosa’s, I don’t relate to the«bottomless» mimosa thing because I personally would like to walk home(a mile away) without becoming road kill. … HEh! Great place for the chicks to get down, have some good food and not destroy their waste lines while listening to come cool tunes. What are you waiting for? Do it! :D
