The Mustang Shop of San Diego

Stopped by The Mustang Shop to check out another classic Mustang specialist in town due to some really disappointing work by another shop. Josh in the office spent a lot of time chatting with us and we also got a chance to meet Peter, the owner, who is very enthusiastic and friendly. A really clean and organized shop and we’re looking forward to having them service our 1965 Mustang in the future!

I took my 65 mustang for a hydraulic clutch conversion. I cannot be happier they were very informative of the process, pricing and requirements of it. Car came out great not one grease stain or scratch. They also have a great selection of new and used parts and if they don’t have it you can order it. I definitely recommend this place, they know exactly what they are doing when it comes to mustangs.

The shop took 5 months to do top end work, a transmission swap, disc brakes and install a crate rear end. None of the work was done properly the first time, after I was finally able to get my car back from these guys, I found out that everything the mechanics had replaced needed something done to it. The only thing this shop did flawlessly and on time was take payment… which they charge professional shop prices for what, in my case, was something I would have expected from chop shop. I ended up taking my car to JBA to have the work done right. Save your time and money and go someplace else.

Called to discuss an engine swap on a 1968 coupe, spoke with Peter and started out by telling him I live out of state and I’m looking for free advice, I’m not going to use his shop for the work.
He spent 20 minutes with me, discussing different engines for the swap, details to look out for, other areas to make sure get covered (differential, cooling, etc). Very professional and helpful, you can tell he loves what he does. Terrific advice and counsel, especially for someone who isn’t going to get the business.
If I lived closer I’d definitely use The Mustang Shop of San Diego. Thanks Peter!

I really wanted to emphasize having The Mustang Shop inspect any Mustang you are considering purchasing before pulling the trigger, it will avoid huge and expensive surprises. They are also very good on educating you on the vehicle you are interested in. I had a great experience with them, they have been over the top helpful.

DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANYTHING. I was there for an oil change, and the shop manager Matt say i have to fix this and that, next thing you know my bill was over $ 500, and most of the it was for labor.

Got my rims on and very satisfied with the outcome. Excellent work guys!

As one of the other people reviewing this shop wisely said something like, «If there was an option to rate this shop with zero stars, I would rate them zero stars.» I feel the same way…
Without getting into a long drawn-​out discussion of this shop, the cut and dry version of this shop is there are unprofessional, sketchy, and do horrible work.
I had my car there twice because they are incompetent and were unable to complete the work I paid them to do the first time, so, even after two chances, still they were unable to perform the work correctly. Also, somehow my BRAND NEW brake disk rotors went from being brand new to being completely rusted out. I pointed this out and they claimed that «the rust would wash away with brake cleaner.» Not to my surprise, they are still as rusty as ever and I have cleaned them with brake cleaner several times now. This is even more suspicious since my brake shoes, caliper, and caliper mounting bracket (along with the bolts and rubber boots) were brand new looking. Now, I am also unable to remove one of my caliper bolts, it’s frozen in there. My suspicion, if it isn’t clear already, is that they replaced my rotors with old and rusty ones, claimed they were mine, and somehow glued the one caliper bolt in that I am unable to remove.
These people couldn’t find their butt with both hands and a GPS. As far as I am concerned, the only thing the people in this shop are qualified to do is take your money and write their names on a piece of paper, after that, it’s a huge risk.
I spent a TON of money at this shop, only to receive garbage work, in fact, no work, absurd prices, liars, and incompetent workers. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. It may take more effort to find another place, but it’s worth it, just read all there reviews here and on Google.
Finally, I am likely going to take some serious legal action against them, so if you are reading this Peter (the shop owner), you are BUSTED.
Sorry for the long review, but remember, this is only a VERY small fraction of the crap they put me through.

If there was an option to rate this no stars, I would. I grew up near the Mustang Shop and always admired their beautiful cars. Therefore, when my ’67 needed some work I took it there. What a mistake!!! They had my car for 4 months and did nothing to it. NOTHING at ALL. They continued to tell me that it was an insurance issue, but in reality they just do not know how to run a business. After I had my car transfered to another shop, we realized that the Mustang Shop lost my key with the clicker and lost my battery. They did nothing but loss parts to my car and give me the run around. Beware this shop is shady…

This shop is now being ran by a new owner. I took my 67 mustang over there to get my tranny fixed. Martin (Owner) reassure me that he can fix anything. So I took his word and let him work on my car.
I really like his work and my Stang now drives like new. His shop is nice and big. He does quality work. He does everything from body repair, engine repair/​rebuild, electrical, everything!
I highly recommend this shop!
