The Classical Eye Optometry

I was looking for some super light frames and finally found them here. The staff was super friendly and helpful and my Swissflex glasses (in custom color!) turned out perfect. Only took three days too, I was very impressed.
They’re part of the VSP Première insurance plan too so that saved me a ton of monies.

Love this place! Been going to them for a couple years-​always impressed.
Great customer service, thorough eye exams, and very helpful staff that give you real advice not just try to sell you frames or something you don’t need.

I’ve been going go classical eye before they had relocated from La Jolla Optique. So I’ve been going there for over a couple of years now. Not sure what’s up with the receptionist desk, but every time I call and leave a voicemail to order contacts, I never get a call back. And I have to wait a couple of days before I’m free to confirm that they even placed my order during their business hours. Unless you call during business hours here, your voicemails will be ignored. Which is very bad service on their part, because how else is a client supposed to make an appointment or order new contacts/​glasses? When I called last Thursday I left a voicemail with my name and number, I never got a call back. And I called on Saturday to see what was up with my order. Madeline, the one who answers the phone, told me she had heard my voicemail but never placed my order. Well that’s pretty unprofessional. I understand mistakes happen, but this happens to me way too often here with different people every single time. Also when I was asked to pay half of the payment over the phone, Madeline tried to get the 3 digit code on the back of my credit card. You aren’t supposed to give that over the phone, so be careful when sharing credit card information over the phone with this place. The only time I enjoy the service from this place is when I’m actually there in person at the business. Everyone is very polite and ensures to make sure that what you need is done promptly, but sadly it isn’t the over the phone. Get yourselves together Classical Eye!

Not such a great experience. Nice people at first, until three tries and 9 months to get a basic pair of glasses with a new Rx. Fail x3. The last fail they guilted me and said it was a new Rx that I had to get used to and refused to accept my telling them that I could not even see clearly thru the left lens in any spot. They adjusted the nose piece and told me that there was nothing wrong with them and that they measured correctly. I’ve been wearing glasses for 8 years, Lenscrafters got my glasses right each and every time, on the FIRST try. Why is that? Hmm. Classical Eye said they do not give refunds. So they basically told me too bad, and that I am out $ 400 for a pair of glasses that I can’t wear!!! This is totally wrong and unacceptable.

Girlfriend recently came here to get her eyeballs checked up on, new glasses and new contacts. She said the staff was grwat, friendly and easy to talk to. Made her feel right at home. No pressure in getting the most expensive glasses.
They called when the glasses were ready and picking them up was a breeze.
She will be back to get another pair of glasses soon.

Doctor is very upbeat and friendly. Makes for an enjoyable exam experience. Staff is very knowledgeable about insurance — they helped me sort out purchase of prescription Ray-​Ban sunglasses in an understandable manner.

I really love their selection of eye ware. I have never had an eye exam here but I usually just send them my prescription and use their frames. I have bought two different frames from The Classical Eye and I’m very excited about my new ones I got today. The only thing I was confused about was last time I bought the frames they put my prescription in with out charging me I think?
They just gave me the price for the frames and that was what I paid. Today with my new frames it was a $ 200 difference if they would have put in my lenses. So I just bought the frames and I will take them to my original optometrist to put in the lenses for $ 60. So not sure if they are charging for that now but either way if you’re looking for very trendy brand name frames come here!!! Very clean inside as well.

Hi, I have never posted a review but this place can’t do very simple tasks. We went to this place to get the bridge of a silhouette eyeglass attached back to the lenses. Instead they broke the right lense of the glasses and offered us to fix it for $ 200. I would not recommend this store. They don’t even know how do very simple repair. They should have not asked us to pay for the lense since they broke it!!!

Great optometry service! Have never gotten glasses from this location, but my eye doctor is here, and does a great job! The eye doc has changed since I started coming, but they are always nice, professional, and fast.

I bought my original Maui Jim Progressive Prescription sunglasses from here. I had an issue with the sunglass lens and Tammy took awesome care of me!!! Thank you!!!

Great selection! They have Tom Ford, Oliver Peoples, Dior, Prada, Chanel, Tiffany and many more! They are under new ownership and accept VSP!
Tammy was very knowledgeable about the different designers and frame fittings. I ordered a pair of frames only, without prescription lenses and it took 3+ weeks to receive my order. Although my frames were a special order, there were many issues with the order causing them to put the item on hold. I only wish they followed up on the order without me having to call and request them to check on the status. Other than that, I am happy with my frames. I will get my lenses filled somewhere else, I don’t have time to wait again.

The selection and service at the La Jolla location of The Classical Eye is absolutely fabulous!
My husband and I shopped around at quite a few places for his frames and found that many stores have mostly women’s! We have used this shop numerous times in the past and decided to go back since we were always happy with their product and service. They had a very large and great selection for both men and women. Alex immediately came up with great options and took outstanding care of us! I hope you will give him the opportunity to help you out too!

The worst! I will never go back. Took over 6 weeks to get my glasses, 6 weeks really? They said 7 – 10 days. I called them 3 times over the 6 weeks and got one call back, with a lame answer putting the blame on the lab. There are plenty of other over priced eye glass shops in La Jolla. Don’t waste your valuable time.

I’ve bought three pairs of glasses from Classical Eye Optometry over the years. What I love is the selection of frames. If you like classic frames, this is the place to go. It’s not inexpensive, but you’ll come away with a pair of glasses you love.

I have going to Classical Eye for over 15 years. They are professional and have always supplied glasses which are true to my prescription and through which I can see clearly. A lens on a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses which was over a year old cracked, and they sent them back to Maui Jim, who replaced the lens — this is outstanding service ! It is more expensive than the discount stores, but they know what they are doing. I was out of town once and bought a pair from a discount chain when I lost my glasses. That was a real waste of money: although they were cheaper, I could not focus clearly through the lenses. It was not even worth wasting time trying to talk to the discount store about this, and I just trashed them.

Classical Eye makes even the cheapest big chain eyeglass store look like a dream. The frames at this store are overpriced. Some are actually quality constructed, some are not. But ALL are overpriced. The staff is expert at cooing over you while you select a frame — spending all the time necessary to get you to hand over your credit card for some big bucks. And once you have paid, that’s where the cooing and any semblance of customer service ends. This is when you find out about the «no refunds» policy.
If there are any delays in your order, you will NOT hear from Classical Eye. If your order arrives, you will NOT hear from Classical Eye. I had to initiate every single contact in an attempt to get my order filled. And when and if your glasses ever arrive, you will find out that the staff is NOT skilled in properly fitting the glasses. The art of fitting and adjusting your glasses is extremely important to comfort and being able to see properly through the glasses. Classical Eye employees have no skills whatsoever in this area, and don’t care if they do, as too bad for you, you already paid.
Classical Eye keeps the adjustment device in the back room, so the clerk has to look at the glasses on your face on the showroom floor, then take them in the back to adjust them, then come back out to the floor to try them on you, then go back to the back room again for the next round, etc. Could it be any more inconvenient? They just don’t get it. They have no interest in your glasses actually being comfortable and providing clear vision, just in securing that $$$ from you.
The glasses I purchased are by far the worst fitting pair of glasses I ever purchased. Even the cheapest pair of glasses I have had, have been more comfortable than these hugely expensive ones purchased at Classical Eye.
Classical Eye is owned by Luxury Optical Holdings — who also owns a store in Fashion Valley and several other places. Do NOT get taken in by their «designer» name frames in the window. It will be most difficult to actually get your money’s worth at this place, but very easy to get aggravation and painful glasses.
Oh — and the staff has turned over, along with the eye doctor — so if you haven’t been there in a while, you’re in for a disappointing experience if you return.

I have been here twice to fix my boss’ glasses. Each time a screw on the side had fallen out and they replaced it for free!!! Super Cool.

I came here for my initial eye exam and overall, had no problems with the place. Just a regular eye exam. They have a special camera that takes a picture of your eye but there are drawbacks: the solution that is put into your eye causes your vision to be blurry for a couple of hours and it’s an extra $ 25 (or around there).
Overall great place but minus two stars because of the limited selection.
For such a small place, they have a big selection of regular glasses and sunglasses. These are top of the line sunglasses and you’ll be lucky to find any frames under $ 100. The frames are in the $ 250-​$ 400 range. They have all your top designer brands and even $ 600 swarovski crystal frames for you girls.
Left with a pair of Oliver Peoples and returned the next day to pick up my regular eyeglasses which they had ready right away.
