The Barbery

If you are looking for a good neighborhood barber shop where everyone seems like family then this is the place. When I first moved to San Diego, last November, I was lucky enough to stumble in to The Barbery and have gotten my hair cut here since. I always go to Drop and he does a great job and I always get compliments on my hair. Kurt is always welcoming and greets me when I walk in. If you can, make an appointment because this place is usually busy. I am stationed in San Diego another 2 years and will be a faithful client until I am forced to leave.

Love this shop! I have been a customer of Drop/​Emmett for about a year and a half now. I followed him here from another shop and couldn’t be happier! All of the barbers here are really cool and always welcoming. The location is enough to give it three stars alone. Farmers market right outside the door on Saturdays to show off your fresh cut. Prior to coming to the barbery, I only had one person cut my hair my entire life. Drop and the guys and gals at the Barbery are attentive to their customers and never hesitate to fix anything you have a problem with. If you’re looking for excellent customer service, a quality cut, and some good conversation; this is the barber shop for you!

The Barbery has been MY SHOP for the last year and half. As soon as I was stationed in San Diego. A reccomendation from my roommate at the time. I was a returning customer due to the outstanding service and relaxed atmosphere. I ended up getting to know one of the barbers very well. So I figured; This is my shop, this is MY barber. I’ve never had this connection with a barber. Loyalty at its core. And the compliments I have received over all this time are quickly followed by a recommendation. My barber is Emmett (also known as Drop) has had my back, or should I say head, since I first came to The Barbery. Anytime I’m in need, I just give him a call, make an appointment. And arrive to receive a professional yet relaxed haircut. He exemplifies what a barber should be in my opinion. They even recommended me to my current tattoo artist! I don’t know who this Rashad J. character is but when I’m finishing a cut; Drop hands me the mirror and asks me if I am satisfied. I am a man who understands style and is certainly not afraid to let my barber know if there are any discrepancies to fix. All of the people I have recommended to The Barbery have all had great experiences as well. A fine establishment. I’ll be back in a week or so; any time I’m in need of a fresh cut.

I’ll start off by saying I’ve given this place multiple opportunities. Emmit or Drop pure fuckery. this place has potential and from why I can tell a few decent barbers but I will not endorse this place as a five star. it went from a zero to a two because of the quality haircut I got from Jeebz today. He is a legit barber but Drop/​Emmitt needs to practice more. I Dont know if he even has a licence but you would think after the 1200 plus hours needed to become a barber there haircuts would be on point .I think there price point is too high for the quality of the cut. At the most this place should be $ 18.00. Location shouldn’t dictate the price. Based on location its OK. However if you pay close attention this place is in need of a desperate renovation. The floor is peeling .On the three occasions I’ve been here I’ve noticed they have a roach problem. The bench is where I’ve noticed the roaches .Kurt is a busy man I get it .My real problem I have with him is lack of follow up after I told him of the issue. He seems to be a great guy .I wish him infinite success as a barber. My critique is to follow through with your word to your clients. My first haircut was terrible; it was dine by Drop/​Emmit. I noticed patches and an uneven lineup. I came back the same day after texting him letting him see the error. He attempted to fix it but fucked up eve n worse. After talking with him I opted for a bald fade of which. He ROYALLY messed up one side was faded the other was bald. He said he had never had a client have issues with his cuts before and that he never messed up as bad as he did. I left promptly. Ashamed and embarrassed I cut All of my hair off later that night. I too agree with the punctuality of the barbers being absent. I walkied in at 11:00 when they firsted open to be met by Kurt telling me the others would be in in 30 mins only to wait over an hour and none show up, all the while I listened to the pure bs of a patron who prefaced his convo about addarral a schedule 2 drug saying I’m not a pill pusher but I’ll give you some to Kurt. I interrupted the convoy and let them know that it was probably not the best conversation to have in front of people you Dont know. After that I sensed this place probably want for me. While I was waiting I went on their website retrieved Drop/​Emmit info text him and let him know I needed a cut. We set an appointment for two hours later of which I waited an additional after our appointment should have started while he fixed someone eles hair he messed up. RedFlag# 3. I can go on and on. This place needs to earn my business back. I am a walking advertisement. Many people don’t look at it like that but the reality is your paying them to cut your hair. Their work is an advertisement of their skills or lack there of. Excuse The brevity and the typos.

The best haircut I’ve ever had. My man Kurt is a wizard with the clippers. Great place to have a beer and get a cut. Everyone in there is live and very friendly. He put me on the hard part game and I love it, he can really do it all. It’s my go-​to and it should be yours too.

Great service and great haircut! I was a walk in and Chelsea welcomed me in. She listened to what I wanted and gave me the best haircut I’ve had in a long time. Will definitely be back.

I’ve been going to Kurt since The Barbery opened up. The location is perfect for me, as I live across the street. I typically go on Saturdays and cruise through the farmers market grab some coffee and head over to the shop. The shop always has good music and is welcoming. Kurt is always willing to try and squeeze me in, but, I suggest making an appointment cause he stays busy, because as always, his work is on point. He truly cares about his work, and it shows. I always am stoked on my cut, and my girlfriend is too!
I highly encourage you to stop by, grab a beer and a great hair cut.

Needed a barber on vacation in San Diego. Perfectly timed a walk in with Kurt looking for a hot towel shave on my noggin and a beard trim. Was not disappointed. Great service, fun banter, and perfectly styled beard. The price is a fantastic value for the service. Highly recommend for locals and those traveling.

True talent here… these guys love there profession. .you can look in their faces when cutting hair… its their art… if you are in san diego and are in need of of a haircut this is your place… and no mater of your hair type. THIS IS YOUR PLACE… nice vibe good music. and you will come back! The barber D has cut my hair multiple times and has a great attention to detail. I am always happy with his work!

If you are looking for a fresh haircut with major style you have to go to The Barbery. The atmosphere is chill and all the barbers are talented with their craft. I have had both Kurt and Emmitt cut my hair and clean me up with superb results. They take their time, listen to you and pay attention to the details. Furthermore, their prices are extremely reasonable given how great you will look and feel when leaving. I highly recommend that you stop in and get yourself a haircut here, you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been going to the Barbery now for a few months and it’s great. Super cool vibe and the cuts are amazing. Kurt cuts my hair but I’ve had a few different barbers there and they are all very talented. Very reasonably priced as well.

I got a smooth cut from Kurt. He asked lots of questions to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I did! I was in and out of there fast, too. Give it a shot if you’re a local or from out of town, like me.

The best haircut I’ve ever had! I’ve been to many shops in San Diego, i think this one is the best in town. As you step in, ask for KURT who does really great job on my hair! so glad i met him! :)

Just had a haircut and beard trimmed up. Emmitt did an awesome job. Very professional, great conversation. It was a relaxed environment. I walked in and was able to get right in a chair, but that’s not to say they did not stay steady with clients. I could tell right away that he was not knew to this. And you can not beat the price, especially considering the great service.

Curt was the only guy there, and had 1 person he was just finishing up. Only waited about 5min or so.
I needed a cut before a wedding, and he did a great job! Took his time and it turned out perfect! Not that I would drive 10hrs roundtrip for a cut, but if I am ever in SD again, and need a cut, I will go back to him! Good conversation too!

The Barbery is the newest gem in Little Italy. The shop is comfortable, relaxing, and trendy. All of the barbers seem kind and highly skilled from the conversations I have overheard and the cuts I have seen.
My go to barber is Kurt, who has cut my hair several times now and I certainly won’t be leaving anytime soon. He is great at fades, tapers, and bringing his own experience and creativity to the table. I have not had a more skilled barber inside or out of SD.
If you have not checked out the Barbery for a very reasonably priced and exceptional experience, you are missing out.
