The Art of Shaving

My coworker recommended I get a haircut here by Hugo. I’m a frugal person and $ 40 for a haircut seemed pricey so I finally went in a couple days before my own wedding. Super glad I did. Haircut was honestly best I’ve had and where I went to college/​grad school in Wisconsin I went to the same barber for 7 years and thought he was the best, but honestly Hugo is better. He listens to what you want/​show him a picture and he makes it happen. He also goes over the products to put in your hair for styling to make it happen. What I liked best is he didn’t try to sell me anything. He used one type of hair pomade and I said I used this other one and he said that works too. He is a great at what he does and it shows he is passionate about his work, he is methodical, always humble and just a pleasant person to be around. The three times I’ve gotten my hair cut I was smiling the entire time.
The rest of the staff is great too, they don’t push to sell anything and seem like they actually enjoy their job. They are also very knowledgeable about their product, ie you want this type of shave and products and can only spend X amount of money and they will make you a personal kit to fit that budget.
Extra tidbit about Hugo, he is the master trainer that goes around training the other barbers on how to cut hair and how to shave.
I personally have never had a shave from him (I’m a beard guy) but when I do decide to cut it off it will be the $ 80 shave and haircut combo.
The reason for the ⁴⁄₅ stars is I HATE traffic and busy parking lots (which West field Mall has plenty of both) and being a frugal person $ 40 for a haircut seems like a lot… but here I am going next week for my 4^th haircut with Hugo.

Been going to this location for a haircut the past 10 months. I’m very particular in terms of clean and consistent haircuts. Hugo is the man when it comes to this. Professional, personable, and very technical with his hair styles. Highly recommend.

This place is amazing! Hugo is an artist with his blades! Recently came in for a shave the day before my now bother in laws wedding. Hugo got all of the guys in the wedding looking sharp and ready for the big night we had later that evening! The Groom got the royal shave which was pretty much a straight up spa treatment and all the groomsmen got the regular shave which is still pretty amazing! Everyone came out looking 100 times better then we walked in. The other store staff were awesome aswell putting up with all of us guys in and out of the store and grabbing chairs for us all to sit in the back while we waited. Highly recommend getting a shave here and also a great idea for anyone in the area who is getting married and want all the groomsmen looking sharp!
Also the groom received a gift set (from the best man) with a straight blade and some other items from the store and Hugo was awesome and gave him some great tips on how to learn how to correctly and safely use the blade and offered to have him come in and show him next time he shaves him.

Day-​um this is like Tiffany’s but for men!
Cassandra was very helpful in my expedition on finding the right set for the fiancée. The fiancée wanted a specific set but I couldn’t remember what it was for the life of me. All I knew was that it was all silver and it was heavy.
Cassandra showed all the various types of razors, stands and brushes. I was pretty overwhelmed. There was a promo at the time where if you buy a set, you also get the accompanying pre-​shave and after shave oils and shaving cream for a discounted price.
I ended up purchasing a Mach 3 nickel plated razor, Fusion nickel plated stand, and the Nickel-​Plated Handle Silvertip Badger Hair Brush set for $ 500+. I simple shook my head as I handed over the credit card. Cassandra reassured me of the products’ quality and the lifetime warranty. Dang, this better last until our dying breath!
Lastly, she asked me if he deserved it. I said «Absolutely». Her response was «Well then, he better with that big rock on your hand!»
So now when I come in, I’m known as the girl with the big rock.

My Boyfriend has been reading up on Safety Razors on Reddit and how they produce less waste and are more gentle on the skin. I wish I can remember the name of the Sales Associate that helped us, however both him and the other female Sales Associate were very knowledgeable. They gave us all the tips and how to’s for making your set last longer.
The total price is scary at first thought when you pick out all the basics, however with caring for your set properly this will last you a life time. Now all we have to come back for is the soaps, lotions, and additional razors.

Master Barber Hugo is the man. I went in for a beard trim, and literally could not have been any happier with the service. Pure class from start to finish, and my beard looks better than I ever imagined it could. Fantastic.

I went there tonight to buy shaving cream. The staff there (my bad, I didn’t get their names) pointed out that it was more economical to get the jar instead of the travel pump. That’s the kind of service that makes me a loyal customer of not only The Art of Shaving, but of this store.

I went in here twice yesterday. The first time I went in to look around for fiancé. He has sensitive skin so I know he is really picky bout what he puts on his face. The young man was very knowledgable bout the products and explained them all to me. He kinda hovered over me as I was looking over the products so I moved around the store to look at something else. He went and helped another guy in the store, while they talked bout razors.
I told my dad bout this store and that I needed help picking out something for grooms gift. The man suggested a pack with all the fixings. My dad also wanted to buy him a straight razor with a stand which would have brought it up to about $ 250. Pricey there but I think it’s worth it. I will be there next week to buy the grooms gift.

Ok, using a straight razor is a lost art and it’s hard to find a barber that is willing to do this. I procrastinated and booked my royal shave and head shave the week of my wedding and was told that I’d have to come in two different days to have both services done. I came in on Wednesday to have Master Barber Hugo do my royal shave and after making my face as smooth as a baby’s bottom he told me that he didn’t want me to have to make a second trip back tomorrow for the head shave and squeezed me in for both. Now I’ve got a great beautiful bald head and am ready for my big day on Saturday. He’s über professional and does an outstanding job. Just the kind of work you get from someone that enjoys what they do.

Go see Hugo! This man is extremely talented in the art of shaving. You’ll want to book a weekly appointment with him afterwards. I live out of state, but make sure to come in every time I’m in San diego. It’s worth every penny!

I never thought it was possible to feel that good after a haircut. It was as if i had a massage. The way Hugo treats you is amazing. You get a private room and a private treat. It is expensive but definitely worth it if you don’t get a haircut too often. Also if you haven’t tried it yet, I would suggest you do at least for once.

Amazing, royal experience! I feel like a million bucks. Hugo did such a great job with my shave. The black and white décor is very classy and sophisticated. Everything about this place is noteworthy and you’ll be missing out if you don’t go at least once. I will definitely go again.

Staff was very polite and, thanks to me not shaving for a few days, very adamant about giving me a shave.
Overall, pretty cool store! Pricey but. very cool. I felt like Overly Manly Man (meme — and if you don’t know what a meme is yet, gotta get with the times! ;)) I will definitely come here for that fancy shave if I have a big event in the future!

Hugo takes time to listen to client’s needs and delivers on services. Very professional. Entire staff is helpful and friendly.

Pricey, but you get what you pay for.
My man, Mario G. shaves every day, which takes it’s toll on your skin. He has been a loyal Art of Shaving fan since I first purchased a trial kit for him two Christmases ago. He says that the Preshave oil, Badger hair Brush, Shave Cream, and After shave lotion go a long way in getting consistent results that keep his skin smooth and in good shape.
I can attest that these products make me swoon! His face would sport at 5’oclock shadow at about 4:45, but now, his face stays soft and smooth the whole day long.
The staff here is über friendly, and will bend over backwards to make you happy. You will become a customer for life after trying their products.
Selection is limited to razors/​blades, badger hair brushes, preshave oil, shave cream, and after shave lotion. Only for or five scents (including unscented) are available. It’s limited selection, and very clean layout scream «man store» very little browsing is required, though if you have any questions, the staff there is more than willing to help you with your selections.

Hugo is truly passionate about his craft and it shows in his work. I went in with a full-​on 4 month old beard and he hooked me up with a shave and trim using classic techniques that reminded me of the haircuts I used to get years ago. I suggest this treatment to anybody preparing for a special occasion or even if they just want to treat themselves. You will look and feel fantastic!

Last week, on the morning of my wedding I went to see Hugo for a Royal Shave. I’ve never had a straight razor shave before, but I had always thought it would be cool. Well, Hugo did not disappoint. The whole process from pre-​shave prep to post-​shave care took the advertised 45 minutes, and Hugo gave me the royal treatment the whole time. It was incredibly relaxing and one of the smoothest shaves I’ve ever experienced. And it was fascinating to watch Hugo work.

I stopped by The Art of Shaving for a «Royal Shave» and Haircut. Hugo who was my barber was very knowledgeable and professional. Royal is a perfect name for the shave because it made me feel like royalty. The whole experience was as relaxing as possible. Definitely the best haircut I’ve had in years, and the finish with the straight razor has me thinking of bringing back the classic style full time. The store was amazing, Hugo was amazing, I know I’ll definitely be back.
