Tarpy Heating and Air

After having several ac companies come out to my home to give us quotes, we decided to go with Tarpy. Paul the owner was very professional, pleasant and I never felt like he was trying to «SELL» us. What he gave us was a thorough and detailed estimate based on our needs. As far as the price. Well let me tell you, it couldn’t be beat! The entire process from start to finish was a smooth one and Tarpy was great about keeping us informed along the way. Save yourself some time. Go with Tarpy! You won’t regret it!

Great service and very friendly people. Paul (the owner) actually came out and gave us our estimate. We shopped around, but we eventually went with Tarpy as they were the most personal and matched other competitors quotes.
I live in a condo complex so they had to rent a crane to lift the heat pump on the roof. Trent and another person came out, as well as the crane operator, and they were very hard working. They were very professional and personal. Trent found that our wiring from the thermostat to the actual heat pump was faulty and had to be replaced. He had to come back a few days later (unit was installed last Friday, he came back today).

Trent was great! He really made sure the work was done right and was very professional. He took the time to thoroughly explain the work that was being done and we’re quite happy. We have used Tarpy before in the past and have always been very satisfied. I highly recommend them.

Oh my. The worst experience I have ever had talking to a person. Just plain RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. My friend made an appointment to get an estimate on the furnace and AC cost for the new home we are purchase together. Since we both currently far from the new home, I talked to him over the phone after he had came looked at the house. The entire time he’s tone was judgy and unprofessional. He stated that he cannot give estimates over the phone and need to meet at the house where the furnace is going to be installed. I ask why not because I am quite far currently from the house and he goes off saying I am a person doesn’t care about my house, doesn’t care about the unit and the only thing I care about is the price. WHAT? how did you draw that conclusion? The house is in Escrow and we need to make a trip out there and also get Agents to open the door if we meet at the house. so I try to ask him if we can meet somewhere closer to me to discuss about the estimate since he won’t give it over the phone. He got even more annoyed and say have my friend call him back. He ends every sentence with an annoyed tone «Do you understand» as if I am incapable of having a conversation. I have never felt this pissed off talking to someone who try to have my business. My god, its’ insane.

The one thing I learned while researching a new AC install is that if you want to get the most life out of a system with the least amount of problems the skill, experience and knowledge of the person who does the initial install is extremely important. When Trent came to my house in Coronado for a new AC/​evaporative coil add on, I knew I found the right guy for the job and as expected, he delivered a quality, clean, professional installation.
From the start, he was willing to talk over just about every possible option available to us for our home, taking into account our available budget and what we were our greatest needs. He was thoughtful, considerate, and acted very professional during this time and it’s what led me to ultimately go forward with the project. The removal of the old AC unit and lift of the new unit was performed by a very solid crane company called Atlas and Trent said it’s the only ones he uses on his jobs. The crane lift literally took 15 minutes if that, simple and easy.
I’ll say with Trent not only are you getting a guy who knows his stuff, he’s a hell of a worker (fast!) and that’s saying a lot sometimes in this day in age. He’s actually very enthusiastic about the work he’s doing which is pretty refreshing and worked his tail off on this job. You can tell when you get someone who knows what they’re doing because there’s literally no down time, the job just progresses and moves along as it should with very little interruption. So overall, I will say I was very impressed by the skill level and professionalism of the persons performing the work and would absolutely recommended Tarpy Heating and Air.

When we finally decided on A/​C for our home in Oceanside, my wife checked references on possible installers and one of the higher rated was Tarpy Heating and Air. Although based in Santee they service a wide swath of south Southern California, so we gave them the call.

We were visited by Trent, one of, if not their top installers, and were impressed right from the start. I was concerned that several heating/​air installers were cautioning us to also invest in an entirely new furnace, and that air duct repair work would also be necessary. The little use we have made of our furnace over the years seemed to me not to have hardly put our furnace through much of a workout, so we didn’t want to make that investment hastily.
On the first visit with Trent — and before we agreed to go with Tarpy — he did a check on the furnace and checked our duct work in the attic and agreed with us that that further investment was not necessary. His thorough knowledge of what our installation would require and overall professionalism resulted in a quote for our Amana 5 ton ASX14 unit, and we came to an agreement that same day.
Installation in our case came within days although some cases may differ depending upon site issues. Our installation took just short of two days and we were ready to go.
We had a top-​of-​the-​line in technology, feature-​rich Amana unit attached to our 20 something furnace just that quickly. So, what could possibly go wrong, right?
Here’s where you separate the good from the great.
Initially there were some issues with the new thermostat/​older furnace activating the new A/​C unit correctly, so we recontacted Trent.
Trent returned immediately, did a complete re-​install and checked all diagnostics, which seemed to address the issue. In short we did require a couple of revisits, but on each occasion, and at every step, I was completely reassured by Trent and by their management representative that they were fully behind this installation and would get this furnace/​air conditioner «odd couple» on full speaking terms.

Within those couple of additional visits that was the case, and now we are cool. Pun intended.
Tarpy and their man Trent displayed the sort of back up support you want behind you when you experience the inevitable hiccup in such installations. This is a solid, customer service oriented organization, worthy of your trust. Give them a call.

Paul Tarpy and the Tarpy team did an incredible job with a large installation for our church. Great communication, competitive pricing, attention to detail, and going above and beyond to troubleshoot challenges that arose on the big job. I’d highly recommend them, and plan to use their services for our home as well.

I called Tarpy and many other Heater and Air Conditioning company for a quote for a complete new system. Trent came out and gave me a quote for a complete new system as well moving my heater to the attic. He was able to give me a price quote right away. He was also able to answer all of my dads questions. I hired him but was still concerned about pricing and the work. As promised he delivered! He did what he said he would. I modified some plans but he was still able to deliver. I did not have to micro manage him or his staff. The showed up bright and early and never left early. They kept us informed the whole time. He even did a walk through and tested all the systems with me. As for trash, they hauled it all away the very next day. I’m impressed with Trent and the company! Worth every penny. I can’t say enough great things about Trent and this company. Will definitely recommend to anyone.

My best friend recommended these guys come out and fix my AC/​Heater. The tech they sent was very rude, making inappropriate commits and trying to take advantage of the fact that I am a single mom on a limited income. I made him aware of my thoughts and that I would not be using his company to do repairs, he disgruntledly told me to have a nice day and muttered something on his way out my door. Good riddance, my gut told me to look elsewhere for honest help.

Used Unilocal reviews to pick Tarpy for a quote request for a new furnace and duct work. Paul was extremely quick to respond to my quote request along with great detail to the quote. He has a great response time in general to any inquiries, thank you Paul!

My wife & I went through quite a few onsite estimates and we finally decided to go with Tarpy. Paul did a thorough inspection of our home and provided a very competitive proposal. The install was smooth with Jeff and Travis, who were very kind and knew exactly what they were doing. We got new R-​8 Flex ductwork done along with some additional vents installed, new electrical, and a new central AC unit with an EcoBee WiFi thermostat. Shortly after as Paul promised, we had a technician come out to conduct a HERS test and also the city inspector come to approve our permit. Everything checked out and our system’s ready for the heat this summer.
My favorite aspect of this transaction was the communication. Paul was on top of his game when it came to communicating everything that was to be done along with follow-​ups; he was also very quick to respond to any of my questions, concerns, or requests.
We also recommended Paul to our next door neighbor, who then also just got their central AC installed by the same technician.
So far, no issues. Also we haven’t had to use the system yet as it’s been a bit chilly in San Diego, so we’ll provide an update later this summer, but we have a feeling everything will function properly.

Paul contacted me and apologized for the oversight. The third party inspector never submitted his assessment to Tarpy which is why my account was never fully completed. He contacted the inspector and emailed me a copy of the report, and then he came out to walk-​through and review the work completed. I appreciate the quick response and knowing that every customer’s complete satisfaction is important to Tarpy. Thank you for resolving this issue!

Great service! Trent was just here, and I wanted to give you some feedback, since I was so very pleased with the service he provided.
Due to my business travel, it was not easy to find a day when I could be here to meet him. He was great in being flexible and following up with me, which I very much appreciated.
We he came today, he was very friendly and professional. He diagnosed my heating problem quickly, and had it fixed quickly. He interacted skillfully with my landlord to get the repair approved, and helped her understand what was needed.

My girlfriend and I recently decided to add central a/​c to our home and Paul was able to come out the next morning for an estimate. The quick action and having the owner give the estimate certainly made an immediate good first impression. Upon arriving, Paul was professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable about which ac would best suit our needs. He offered a very reasonable price and was very accommodating with our payment method.
The installation crew was fantastic as well the day of the install. They were on-​time (bonus!!!) efficient, accurate, and very professional.

When we started with Tarpy it was a joy. Not so much anymore. We have 3 AC units installed by Tarpy. The big problem is getting someone out for service. Each time one of the unit goes down it become a 2 – 4 day wait to let help. Our newest unit a 3 year old Amana AC unit covered with a yearly service contract purchased from Tarpy went out Saturday. Inside temp 80. Called today. They can have someone here by 6p on Wednesday. Just does not cut it. Hire more techs or pay them overtime. Better before they got big. Disappointed twice in the last six months

I cannot think of anything but great things about this company. (I actually tried to) We had a super old furnace (1965 if you can believe it) that was going to cost way too much to fix and decided that it was time to replace it. I checked with friends for their recommendations and of course what Unilocalers were saying and came up with 5 different companies for quotes.
Tarpy was one of the highest rated on Unilocal and Paul Tarpy himself came out the very next morning to evaluate the job and he gave me a written quote right there on the spot. None of this waiting for days for a quote and then more days for an install — nope — this was instant customer service.
I almost signed up right on the spot because he found me such a great deal on the furnace and AC but I had the other companies coming out to give me quotes so I waited — some came and said they would get me a quote in a few days, some never bothered to write out a quote but kept throwing numbers around until I was confused and others just couldn’t get out faster than a week later to even see the job. It was cold — I went with Tarpy and when the other quotes came back eventually I was REALY happy I had chosen Tarpy — that, and they were really great during the installation — super concerned about keeping everything clean with tarps etc. they arrived exactly when they said they would, they even sent me a picture of my installer Alberto.
They had the whole system installed in one day and when we changed our minds a week later about getting one of those fancy thermostats that reads your mind — they gave us a great discounted price on it too and installed it for free. See what I mean? I can’t think of anything they could have done better. Paul Tarpy, your company rocks. I feel like I’m living in a hotel it’s so comfortable now.

I just had a new double sided wall heater installed and couldn’t be happier about how the process went with Tarpy. I called to make a consultation about my old unit, which was condemned by SDG&E and most likely needed to be replaced. Paul Tarpy came out and checked it out and confirmed I needed a new unit as the old one was beyond repair. He gave me the estimate, which was right about what I was expecting to pay for the unit and labor so I set the appointment for installation.
On installation day, I received an email about an hour before my appointment time telling me who my lead installer would be (Alberto) and what some of his leisure time activities were (spending time with his daughter and hiking, haha). I thought that was an amazingly personal touch and showed the family run atmosphere that Tarpy has. When Alberto and his colleague arrived they were super friendly and got right down to business installing the new double sided wall heater. The whole installation only took from about 8:30am to 10:30am and that’s pretty much from the time they pulled into my driveway and the time they left. The unit (a Williams brand heater) works perfectly and they hooked it up with my old thermostat which has day/​night scheduling that the standard thermostat that comes with the heater didn’t have.
Before both appointments I received a call about 15 minutes before Paul (consultation) and Alberto (installation) were set to arrive.
Honestly, this company is run the right way and does great work. You can’t ask for anything more!

Will definitely use Tarpy down the road for any heating and plumbing needs!

After talking to the owner of Tarpy, he graciously came out himself to figure out what was wrong with my AC. They narrowed the problem down to a small leak that was previously very difficult to find. He was extremely apologetic about the whole affair. The next day, he sent a very competent technician to fix the problem. He was here for close to 3 hours making sure that everything was just right, which I also really appreciated.
Since then, it’s been extremely hot here in Poway. The AC has been working better than it ever has. It cools the whole house down about 2 degrees every hour and maintains the cool both upstairs and downstairs. This is even more impressive because I know that my attic insulation needs some repairing.

Service was prompt and professional. Tarpy’s is the best! Every person I contacted, in sales, installation and office, was polite and friendly. Todd and Anthony did the installation, and they were real pros!
I’ve been pretty on the fence about getting air conditioning for sometime, as I wasn’t sure if the service would really be worth the time, effort, and money. But it got way too hot to put it off any more! I looked around Google to figure out where I would get this AC situation taken care of, when Tarpy’s was recommended to me by a friend. Definitely worth it! Please give this place a try, you will definitely not be disappointed!
