History
Established in 1990.
In 1990, Synovation Medical Group was founded by Dr. Clayton Varga who wanted to share his vision to serve patients and community as the leaders in musculoskeletal medicine.
Synovation Medical Group offers top-quality care through our extensive network of doctors, surgeons and specialists in areas including pain management, physical medicine and rehabilitation, physical therapy and spine care.

Dr. Varga received his Doctor of Medicine from USC, and later completed a residency in Anesthesiology and a fellowship in Pain Management at UCLA. Dr. Varga subsequently returned to USC as the Director of Pain Management and became a founding member of the American Academy of Pain Management. In 1990, Dr. Varga moved his practice to Pasadena, and over time this evolved into the Pasadena Rehabilitation Institute.
Dr. Varga served as the Corporate Medical Director for Summit Health, developing 20 pain management centers under the corporate trademark over the southwestern United States. He has also developed pain-management centers for other corporate entities, hospitals and individual physicians, starting more than 40 new centers in the last 20 years. In the mid 1990s, Dr. Varga earned a Master’s degree from the Department of Health Systems Management at Tulane University and subsequently completed the Mergers and Acquisitions Program at the UCLA Anderson School of Business.
