The price is right IF you are ordering from the 50% off menu, but everything else is off. The sushi is decent sized, but sloppy. The service was difficult– I had to flag her down 3 times… Since I was the only person in there, that was annoying. Convenient location, cheap sushi if your in a penny pinching sitch…

** This is not the same company as the Sushiya in Point Loma. Same name & same storefront sign, but they are separate. I wanted to go to the Sushiya in Point Loma based on their rating & reviews but came here instead because I thought it was the same company. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday lunch. It is a small restaurant, not much room to move around. Outside seating available. Customer service was rushed then they never came… The water was disgusting. There was a funky taste to it & I overheard several customers say the same thing. My friend ordered an Arnold Palmer instead, but that tasted funky too! Salmon Nigiri — Not fresh, room temperature versus cold. Also, tiny! Del Mar Roll — Best roll here. Spicy crab, cucumber, salmon, seaweed salad, & sauce on top. Sauce was amazing but they skimp you on the salmon. Very small piece!

Pretty good place for cheap sushi! I always get the rainbow roll with a side of California roll to fill be me up during lunch. The customer service is outstanding and I’d definitely come here again. Love the people that work there because they will take care of you.

It’s not the best sushi but it’s not the worst. PROS: Very affordable sushi, we ordered the crunch roll plate which was $ 7. (Crunch Roll is probably the best dish there sadly to say.) Chef was kind. CONS: For being the ONLY customer there on a Sat afternoon, our food didnt come out fast. Our server tall guy served us without saying much, he looked uninviting. I didnt like the service. The nigiris are pricier The sushi didnt wow us. Flavor can be improved.

I have lived within walking distance of Sushiya for 3.5 years and I finally stopped in for dinner last night. I had a Local Flavor deal for $ 10 for $ 20 and it was about to expire so my boyfriend and I headed over for a mid-week casual date night. Funny enough, neither of us really eats sushi. Raw fish and seaweed freak me out and my boyfriend is a vegetarian who occasionally makes exceptions for crab but otherwise doesn’t currently eat fish. Despite our strange eating preferences that don’t fit well with a Japanese restaurant, we had a lovely dinner. My boyfriend ordered two hand rolls, the vegetable and the snow crab. Since sushi is relatively new to him, he wasn’t sure what a hand roll was or how it was different than cut rolls. Although he prefers the slices of sushi, he thought the rolls were tasty. I ordered the chicken yakisoba with no veggies and thought it was good. The only thing I thought was odd is that it’s served on a large plate which is half empty. The portion size was just right for me being a light eater but it would have looked better on a smaller plate. Next time I might try the chicken teriyaki. I wish there was better descriptions of the some items too as I wasn’t sure what some of it was. We ordered the vegetable tempura and identified the carrots, onions and broccoli but there was a fourth veggie that we weren’t sure what it was. Given the close proximity to our apartment and the good food, we’ll likely be back soon.

Busy and small place. There’s some seating outside but not great for huge group. I stopped by here on my lunch break and I ordered their bento box – bolgogi. They have quite a few to choose from like chicken Katsu and salmon. Food came out fast and hostess was very accomodating and friendly staff! They all say hi when you walk in, checks on you and thank yous all around when you leave. I’ve been to 3 different Sushiya locations and I will definitely be coming back here again.

Honestly… this was one of the worst sushi places I’ve been to. Absolutely no flavor. $ 30 down the drain :(

Plain and simple, if you want to eat lunch/dinner in a bathroom this is the place. Not only because the only bathroom is located literally in the center of the dinning area but because the food they produce is shit. The iceberg lettuce salad was floating in watered down ranch and had 1 cherry tomato…1, the presentation of the sushi rolls appeared as if they made them with their eyes closed and the fish tasted like if it was fished out of the New York sewers and transported across the United States where Sushiya bought it for a bargain of a price. The service is just as bad and if not worse. The smell is probably the worse part. Picture yourself in your bathroom having one of your worse bowel movements, the smell was probably horrific, but now add sushi and 20 other people. Won’t be going back ever.

If you’re looking for CHEAP sushi in the Del Mar area this is the place to go. I went with a friend at around 1pm on a Wednesday and the place was pretty full with most of the people ordering their lunch bento specials($ 8.99). I was craving more of sushi so I got philadelphia roll & alaskan roll for about $ 10. They have 50% off selected rolls if you dine in and 40% off if it’s take out — which I think is a good deal. Their sushi were pretty small though and they were mediocre — basically you get what you pay for.

Wow. Let me start off with saying this place is down right amazing. Very friendly staff and the owners are sweethearts. They always ask me how I’m doing and offer a great 5 star program. There is a lot of confusion with this location since there are so many they are all owned by different people. So some of these reviews are honestly not for the right one. Please take my word for it ask for the dinner or lunch special. So tasty and huge portions! I highly recommend!

After a long day at work I ordered a roll from here to take back to my hotel. I was disappointed from the moment I opened the box. The albacore alone was a funky color and very fishy. The roll was bland and tiny. I don’t mind a smaller size roll as long as it’s fresh. Not here! I threw it away and am figuring out if I want to go get something else. Disappointing to say the least.

This place is the best. Sarah is always such an amazing waitress/busser/hostess/bar tender/everything else in this business. If I could recommend one person of awesomeness in the highlands, that young Asian gal would be the one. I appreciate all the awesomeness that you have bestowed on my family and I.

This is not necessarily an authentic Japanese restaurant. The food is flavorless. When I complained of the food at the restaurant and returned the gyoza I was told I could not return it with a refund. After I talked to the woman at the cash register she finally agreed. I also had the chicken katsu bento but the chicken was flooded with steak sauce. It over powered the chicken. I will not go back.

I love this little place. The sushi was good, I was very happy with the service and the prices were reasonable. They have a bunch of items at half price on a loose leaf of paper. Really good value. Located in a nice strip mall right next to Searsucker. It is pretty small and they definitely did not put a lot of effort into decorating, but the food was good.

I met my cousin here for a noon lunch on a Monday. It’s a very small restaurant. When we arrived there were plenty of tables available. But it did start filling up as the hour progressed. The service was very friendly but a bit slow. I definitely prefer the food here as opposed to another sushi restaurant in a nearby shopping center. They have great lunch specials which makes for a cheap lunch date. Ha ha. Definitely my go to sushi restaurant in my hood.

It’s not going to be the most AMAZING plate of sushi you’ve ever had. But it’s also most likely not going to disappoint either. Sushiya is an average sushi restaurant in Carmel Valley, tucked away in a corner of a busy plaza filled with boutique shops and various eateries. The size of the restaurant is small with a few outdoor seating options, but I didn’t find it too busy during typical lunch hours. They offer a lunchtime special with bento boxes that come with sides, but a select amount of their sushi rolls are always discounted, no matter what time it is. I got the El Fuego($ 8.00) and the Alaskan Special($ 5.00). The special rolls aren’t big in size, so I found ordering two separate ones was the perfect portion amount for me. The El Fuego, complete with jalapeños and Sriracha sauce, delivers in spiciness. The Alaskan Special has a fresh salmon skin middle that I absolutely loved. Overall, paying about $ 14, tax included, for two sushi rolls isn’t bad at all. Most places will charge that much for one special sushi roll. I was content with my meal and how much I spent on it. Again, don’t expect for your mind to be blown. This is a perfect place to go if you’re craving sushi but don’t want to spend too much. But it’s not going to be the place that leaves your taste buds impressed.

Food ok. Service ok, slow. Forgot ginger and wasabi. Brought my daughter. Total almost $ 100! Total rip off, not worth the price. The pictures are all we ordered. The Uni(my ab fave) sucked as it was bitter and fishy. I will not come back.

Have to admit, it has been awhile since I’ve been here. But I have eaten here many many times. I loved the rainbow roll here. I have always sat at the sushi bar. The table space is limited and crowded. The sushi chefs are nice, and put out some decent rolls. Nothing to write home about though. They do have a half off menu with good options but if you want to have really good sushi, I’d try Gami down the road.
