Really solid cheesesteak! The meat was good, the cheese was good, the roll was good, and the fries were good. As long as they continue to have their special, 8 inch cheeseteak and fries for $ 6, I’ll keep coming! Only real complaint would be that I wish their peppers weren’t just normal green peppers. Wish they had hot and sweet peppers.

Even though this place is in a mall, its not bad. It’s not the greatest Philly cheese steak I’ve had but it does the job. I do have to say that I’m pretty surprised that their steak is pretty good quality, especially belonging in a mediocre mall. I do recommend their French dip. although not a true French dip, it’s pretty good. What I do appreciate is that you can add lettuce and tomatoes. Not bad.

I eat here on lunch break from time to time and i make sure its not very often because this meal will leave you feeling comatose and make you feel like you just made a diet mistake lol. They used to have a lunch special that was decently priced($ 6.50 i believe) and they got rid of that. When i asked about it the lady looked at me like i was a cheapskate… Which really ticked me off! The fries and the ranch here are really good. But that is not a reason to come to a CHEESESTEAKPLACE. The cheesesteak has virtually no meat on it and is 95% bun. Its ok every now and then but i usually try and avoid this place. Be prepared to spend about $ 10 – 11 on a steak, fries and a drink… Tip: What me and my coworker did was got a Large steak, large fries and 2 drinks and it ended up being $ 14 bucks. We split everything and it was just enough food to eat without feeling terribly guilty. I recommend that way to go if you still want to work the afternoon at the office.

Hate to say it, but this has become my ‘go-to’ place at the UTC Food Court. They honestly make the best philly cheese steak sammies(at least in my opinion). I’ve tried a few other sandwich places around SD but always scratch my head and think ‘hmmm, it doesn’t quite compare to Steak Escape. Look, it’s in a food court in a mall. How good can it be right. Well, you order and pay upfront, and then you watch some dude make your food(granted, the dude’s not from Philly and probably more from South of the Border but who cares, he makes a good sandwich, man!). I always order: Grand Escape (Steak, Onions, Mushrooms, Green Peppers & Provolone) You have 3 sizes to choose from: small, medium, large. I typically order the medium size, everything on it, w/extra meat(I believe it’s $ 1.25 for more meat). They warm up the bread by quickly putting it on top of the meat while it’s sizzling away on the grilltop. They then ask you what you want on your sandwich(tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, etc etc). Just comes out a hot, ooey, gooey, messy sandwich(which I LOVE!) Sis recently took her husband and kids there. Husband is from Philly and sis studied in PA for few years so they’ve had their share of philly cheese steak. She thought this place was ‘ok’ at first but discovered a trick that made her really enjoy the steak sandwich: Have the guys TOAST the bread versus quickly putting the bread on top of the meat to warm it up. She says this made a world of difference.

ok… so my friend brought me some Gagliano’s Bro for lunch a couple of weeks ago… but although I found it good… it only just got me craving for some Steak Escape even more! wth. I think Steak Escape is just simple and yummy. And they still got the best fries! Anyhow, so since I’m preggo right now, I even ventured there twice in one day! eeeek.

I’m also reminded of my SDSU days when I eat here. We used to call it «Steak Mistake», but it’s not that bad. I usually feel full after eating a large sandwich. Add fries and you will be stuffed. It’s a little over priced for fast food. A large combo with a drink could run you over $ 12. The bread is pretty fresh and the fries are really good if you add the seasoning. You never feel healthy after leaving this place, but usually full.

Sometimes when not cooking is the option but no specific type of food is decided upon, the Westfield UTC foot court is the choice. Maybe two out five times I decide to hit up the Steak Escape because I think steak, cheese and bread is a can’t miss. Freshness is a word that probably doesn’t come to mind when Steak Escape is mentioned. That’s exactly what you get from them though. After my usual order of the Works cheesesteak combo, they cut the fries in front of you and throw together the sandwich on the flat top. In a matter of minutes, the hot meal is good to go. Honestly, I think their cheesesteaks are just okay. There are SD cheesesteaks I’m willing to drive for. When I’m lazy and want something now, I make the short drive to this place. Of course I’ve had better but convenience usually wins out.

This place… it’s always calling my name! Chances are if you’ve been by this place and have seen their loaded fries, you were drawn in, too. I haven’t tried their steaks but their loaded fries are good… until you have more than 5 bites. It has: fries, nacho cheese, bacon pieces and ranch if you want it. It’s a great combo, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just a carb powerhouse and it makes your mouth feel dry because of the potato and then the liquidy stuff just kinda makes you feel gross because the serving size is huge. If you’re with a friend and are not that hungry, this is a good thing to share. If you’re taking it on alone… well, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Sometimes it’s just too much of a good thing. Definitely worth a shot once if you frequent the UTC mall food court.

Not worth the price. I have had far better steak sandwiches for cheaper or the same price. It’s not necessarily the cost that bothered me so much as the lack of taste. Also I wouldn’t suggest adding the combo deal — their fries are terrible. At least mine was, I didn’t bother eating most of it.

Ate here for lunch cause I wanted to go shopping! They have a lunch deal for 5.99 which is a great deal i think… philly cheese steak sandwich, fries, and a drink =) it’s a food court so good place to bring friends who are indecisive they way you can pick anything around. Plus you can go shopping! so back to the food quality… it was temperature hot! they have a bunch of different sauces. it was ok… wasn’t the best, wasn’t something to crave for, but it’s ok… fries were warm and salty… coulda been more fresh woulda been better

Clearly not the best philly cheesesteak I’ve ever had, but it was pretty decent. A little bland, but just add a bit of salt and pepper and TADA! The workers are surprisingly very nice(especially for a mall food court restaurant). I got the regular steak escape sandwich(the large was WAY too big), and it was yummy. They use fresh veggies on top(lettuce, tomato, onion, etc). I’d definitely come back. The French Onion sandwich also looked very good, maybe I’ll get that next time. The whole meal(regular sandwich, small fries and regular drink) was only abouy $ 9. Pretty good!

So I went to this place after an entire day of barely eating anything, except for a nutrigrain bar, and I was looking around the mall for something to eat and the pictures of steak on the menu caught my eye. However, when I actually ordered the Cheesesteak Mignon, which seemed a little pricey after how big it actually is, the quality of the sandwich in itself was not that good. Granted, it was in the food court of a mall, so I must say it was a average restaurant, in comparison to its competitors, but I probably would not come back again.

ummm… no. Against my better judgment, I decided to try this place. I’ve had some pretty good philly cheese steaks(Steak and Hoagie, Gaglione bros…) so I knew I would probably be disappointed with a mall food cheese steak place. I decided to try it anyway It always has a short line so at least I’d get my food quickly. I ordered the typical philly cheesesteak. Just meat cheese and bread. It cost about 6 bucks, which sucked because it was tiny. The sandwich itself was OK, but honestly it felt like I was taking a trip to heart attack city while eating it. Though philly cheese steaks aren’t the healthiest meal around, at least the other ones that I’ve eaten didn’t make me feel like I was going to die 30 years earlier than scheduled. I MIGHT come here again, but i doubt it. The food is decent, but if you are going to eat something unhealthy, you might as well get the good stuff. There are much better philly cheese steak/sandwich places than Steak Escape so I personally recommend that you don’t spend your money here…

It’s mall food… …but good mall food. This place has stuck around the UTC mall for a decade now, that’s a lifetime in mall eatery terms. The sandwiches are pretty good, the fries are excellent, and if you get a meal there you are sure to be full and it wont make you feel all gross like the Burger King next door would.

For some reason this food always smells so good, but the taste never lives up to it, The fries are hit and miss, generally they are pretty tasty but sometime they can get a too oily.

Au contraire small-minded Unilocal reviewer… the fries are great. First of all, it’s diced and fried fresh and it’s fried in yummy peanut oil. Oh right, maybe you prefer vegetable or corn oil. The steak sandwiches are decent in the mall fast-food kind of way. I’m kind frustrated that they never toast the outside of the hoagie bun, only the inside. That doesn’t make sense. Their smashed potatoes are yummy and they even put the fake cheese in there! Or the bacon and cheese fries… yum.

Like the last guy said. The location is the best part. I work nearby and go to the food court for lunch quite frequently. This is probably one of the less frequent places I go in the food court. My top choices there are usually Panda Express, Tacone, and the Mongolian BBQ place. Steak Escape does have a few positives. Their sandwiches are decent and the smashed potatoes are great! On the negative side, their fries suck, and nothing really ever looks fresh there. It also seems overpriced for what you’re getting. You end up paying like 8 bucks for a little sandwich and some fries that aren’t at all high quality. If you’re at the UTC food court, I’d pass on this unless you’re tired of the rest of the places.

Convenience is the main draw for this place, it’s in the mall that is located right across the street from where I work. It’s smack dab in the middle of the food court, and I have yet to find a 5-Star restaurant in the food court of your local mall. The food is ok, good sized sandwiches, but I am pretty sure they cook them in Quaker State… The main draw for me is simple, great people watching in mall food courts. UTC has a great mix of business pros in their sweat stained starched shirts, hot moms taking their kids out to spend daddy’s hard earned mula, Asian UCSD students who like to shop when they’re not Tokyo Drifting, hot 16 year old girls who apparently don’t have to go to school and elderly people in track suits getting their daily mall workout. I wish there was a section of this site where we could rate mall food courts… not for the food of course, but for the people watching.
