Starr Darling grew up in a salon. Since her mother has been in the business for over 30 years, hairdressing runs through her soul. Starr has literally played every important role, from receptionist and assistant to stylist. She possesses what it takes tot be a part of a successful salon, and be a diverse successful stylist. With Toni&Guy as her backbone plus over 12 years of experience on her own, her proficiency, art, and love for this industry is what illustrates who she is. Starr is a firm believer in long (and short) hair, and reassures regular trims and hydrating products to maintain healthy alluring hair. She is a BLONDE and BALAYAGE guru, and doesn’t believe in just one shade. Her love for deep, rich, glossy color, strategically placed bright highlights, and of course well-​defined haircuts &blow-​outs, is what keeps Starr humble, uncomplicated and attainable. Also an extension specialist, and on sight destination wedding veteran, her motto is anything at all is achievable!

4 words to describe Starr: this lady has talent!!! Starr did my hair last week for the first time and it came out fabulous. She did a balayage on me and was able to transform my hair and correct the orange and red tones which really bothered me. She also knows what color works for your skin tone. She was very easy to work with and very flexible. My hair came out so beautiful. She also blow dryed and styled my hair and it really shows that she truly cares about her clients. I will definitely be going back to Starr for the next phase of my balayage.

I found Starr through Instagram (@starrdarlinghair) using #sandiegohairstylist hashtag. Her work speaks for itself. She has over 10 years of hairstyling experience, and told me that she grew up in her mother’s salon… this lady knows hair! She gave a me a very clean trim for my lo-​bob (as requested) and beautiful sun-​kissed highlights. She talks you through each step of the process. It was very easy to book the appointment online, and she takes credit/​debit cards. Lastly, there is very easy parking at her salon. I will definitely be visiting her again.

Love, Love, Love Starr! I have baby fine hair, and she has done my extensions for the last year, which makes my hair more full and long. She also blondes me perfectly. She gets to know her customers and what their individual needs are. She’s fun to talk with too! :) Love the atmosphere of her salon. What can I say… My hair was a huge mess. Like cry over it, kind of mess. I was recommended to Starr by a friend and am glad I was! It was literally the best hair experience in my life. I’ve never been turned around to look into the mirror and was this shocked! My hair was perfect I absolutely love it. The way she cut my hair to the color. Not to mention Starr is super hilliarious, friendly and professional. I have another appointment next week and I’m super excited! She is your go to girl for fabulous hair!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would in a heartbeat. Starr was amazing. From the beginning I was THAT client that sent her multiple photos of what I wanted and she handled it with no problem. When it came to my actual appointment, you could tell she really loves what she does. She made me feel very comfortable as if weve known eachother for a while. She was funny all while very professional. One thing that stood out to be that most stylists dont do, is tell you what theyre doing to your hair right BEFORE she does it. So then that way you are fully aware of whats going on, instead of mindlessly following orders. Her prices are great, she knows what shes doing, and she wont dissapoint.
I started off with dark brown hair with an awkward ombré from my old red hair from A YEAR AGO… and went to the photos posted in one session… with NO damage to my hair.
Like I said, she knows what shes doing and shes great at it!
The location is a little tricky if you havent been there before. But apparently alot of people ask the museum downstairs on how to get to Starr. Other wise, very easy!

I have the cutest short haircut thanks to this talented artist. I took my chances based upon her reviews and her online portfolio and I am glad I did! Not only is she very talented, she is beautiful inside and out. The time went so quickly chatting with her and I am really not one to chat while getting my hair done but she is so down to earth, and likeable and an amazing hair stylist she totally knows what she is doing. 5 stars for Starr!

THIS WOMAN IS A BEAST. Seriously. I cannot tell you how many times she has saved my hair. Right when you walk in, Starr welcomes you and makes you feel right at home. She is an amazingly skilled hair stylist, and the things she can do this those scissors is freaking UNREAL. She really is «Starr Scissor Hands».
I could go on and on and on about how good she is, but the BEST thing about Starr, is that she is an amazing friend, and a super strong person.
She is just simply the best!

Going to the salon is always a traumatic experience for me because hair dressers always want to cut my hair off. Starr was so comforting and kept me laughing the entire time. My hair was perfect. Starr managed to put her magical flair into the design and color while making sure I got what I wanted. It was worth every penny! Can’t wait until I can go back!

Starr is the BEST! Since I hadn’t had a real haircut in about 10 years I was a little nervous but felt like I needed a change. I gave her some guidelines for what I was hoping for and she nailed it. She cut & colored my hair and I couldn’t be happier! I went from waist length, DARK brown hair that I was coloring at home to a stylish shoulder length, lovely lighter brown with highlights. The cut looks great whether I style it or just let it air dry. She’s a really sweet person who has a passion for making others look their best. Thank you Starr!

Starr has been doing my hair for years. This past summer Starr did an ombré in my hair to lighten up my brown hair. It was so pretty, I received compliments left and right! I can’t tell you how many botched ombré jobs I see around San Diego, so thankful Starr does it right! I’m back to dark for the winter and love it as well. :) Thanks Starr!

I am 21 and had the same hair colorist/​stylist since I was 14. My previous girl would never comply with what I wanted (ex; no I don’t want to make you blonder, no I can’t do an ‘ombré, etc etc.) I googled «great blonde hair colorist, san diego» and came up with Starr! She not only gave me the exact hair color and style I wanted, but is also a great friend now. She is all about keeping up with new trends within the industry and has extensive knowledge and connections within it keeping her as one of the best hair colorists/​stylists around. Never have a bad hair day again. Seriously.

My little sister dyed her hair with a box color and of course it came out horrible! I heard about Starr through a friend of mine and I could not be more pleased with the quality of work she provides! Not only did she turn my sisters hair into something magical, but I ended up in her chair too! If you are unsure where to go to get your hair done definitely go to Starr! I always went from stylist to stylist, place to place, and never happy with what I paid for! Its was so frustrating. She definitely knows what she’s doing! She is focused on what you are looking for and makes it happen! I’m naturally brunette but came to her with blonde. She fixed the blonde to look more calm and natural, and I absolutely love it! You won’t be disappointed!

When you find a good hairdresser, it’s like discovering gold! Starr is GOLD! She listens, she understands skintone and the shape of a face and best of all… she is a color goddess. She totally understands color and you don’t walk out too brassy or too blonde or too ashy.
How many times have you walked out of a salon thinking about your hair color, «well, they almost got it» or the extreme opposite «OMG…I wanna cry and who is going to fix this?.»
