SpringHill Suites San Diego Downtown/Bayfront

I was having a hard time deciding between 3 and 4 stars, not because I had a bad experience by any means, simply because I’ve stayed in better hotels. Although brand new, this place is okay and doesn’t particularly excel in any one area.
I brought a car and stayed here for 2 nights just to get away with the wife. It’s in a location where everything is easy to get to. 10 minutes from Old Town and Balboa Park, within walking distance to Seaport Village and Little Italy. After visiting the area, I really couldn’t find a better location for the price. If you’re going to a place like Seaworld, it’s probably a bit far, but this is definitely in a great part of San Diego.
The pricing of this hotel in June was okay, the saving grace was the fact that this place is literally right on the water and easy to get to. The location is what makes this hotel really worth it. And yeah, self-​parking is $ 30 a night but their website does states that explicitly. It may be a bit pricey for some people but most Hilton’s and Hyatt’s I’ve stayed at in metropolitan areas charge for parking. At least it has In/​Out privileges so you can take your car out at any time and parking in the garage is easy, though the elevators are detached from the actual hotel.
The staff is very friendly and ready and willing to help. I’ve had many times where staff held and got doors for us or are just saying hi and seeing how you’re doing. Maybe it’s because the staff isn’t jaded yet because it’s so new (lol) but really, everyone is exceptionally nice.
The rooms were pretty average — Yes, they felt new and clean! But otherwise, pretty average. We upgraded to an ocean view and we faced primarily the northern part of the bay, though I wish the windows faced more West/​East vs North/​South. Still a nice view and I couldn’t help but watch the planes come into the airport and take off.
Speaking of which, I hope you like airplanes! They don’t fly at all hours so you won’t hear them at night, but they can be pretty bothersome if you are not used to it since they leave and arrive about every 10 minutes. Double paned windows still can’t keep out the sound of a jet landing just a few miles from the hotel.
I also had this absurdly loud whining sound that I heard coming from outside that bothered me on my first night of sleep. It’s one of those things where it’s the only thing you hear so it sounds really loud. Maybe it’s just me because my wife never noticed it. They’re also doing a ton of construction in the area but it wasn’t too intrusive or loud, just worthy of a mention.
It sounds dumb but I have to say it. Their elevators are stupid. Seriously, just the worst. Their doors open and close in 3 to 5 seconds. Everyone is constantly holding and hitting the doors because you can barely get in the elevator in time. By the time I head to the elevator that just opened it is already closing and I’m not even exaggerating. You need your key to get up the elevator, but last time I was apparently too slow and it took us all the way up. Even after swiping the card after the door closed, it wouldn’t allow me to go back down because someone else had already pushed a button on their floor, so I literally had to get out and call another elevator. Never thought there’d be a problem with an elevator, but they need to call their elevator guy and get that adjusted, so annoying!
Lastly, heir complimentary breakfast is pretty meh. It was pretty damn crowded at around 8am and I get more of a cafeteria vibe that’s not super inviting. Their eggs are bland and watery and I wish they had real bacon and sausage. They had melon but not a huge selection of fruits, or croissants/​breads. It’s edible, but I’ve had better hotel breakfast. On the first day they were also serving on paper plates. Guess they ran out of plates!
All in all — Friendly staff, feels new and clean, great location, nice views, mediocre breakfast, annoying elevators.

Everything about this hotel was horrible! Directions to hotel were wrong on website and mapquest took us in residential area. The free breakfast was discussing. Eggs floating in water. Room extremely tiny with no room to move. Bed uncomfortable. We had our bikes locked on our vehicle in covered parking that they said they patrol and lights were stolen off of our bikes. I will never be back.

I was here during the Memorial day weekend. guess since they opened recently rates, rooms were great! Room came with complimentary breakfast. I would come again if they could maintain the quality.

What an amazing hotel!!! Great service and very well maintained. Since I’m a teenager, it is rare that I encounter an employee that treats me with the same respect as an adult. However, each and every employee at this hotel was extremely kind and attentive in making sure that my stay was a remarkable experience. I was treated with upmost respect. Also, James (who works in the breakfast area) was just the coolest guy ever. I would highly recommend this hotel.

It’s a beautiful new hotel, but very impractical!
The bathroom has a see through sliding door, with a gap in the two sides of the door so you can see and smell everything… Very inconvenient and bad planning. The hotel needs to do something about it.
Other then that, breakfast should ends later then 9:30 am on weekends, and the TV should be set in a place that can be watched…:)

Beautiful hotel, everything is brand new and the staff is nice. Great place to stay if you are on your own, not looking for privacy or don’t watch tv.
The window faced the bay, which is gorgeous, but also allowed for anyone from the elevator room to see right into my room.
The bathroom is located smack in the middle of the room, and the sliding door is see through and does not close well, thus everyone in the room can see/​hear/​smell… Well… I stayed with my family… You get my drift?
The tv is on the side of the room, can be somewhat viewed from one of the beds if but not from the other. Very inconvenient.
Oh– and the elevator doors close way too quickly…

Stayed here just one night, but it was nice. Felt very clean and new. The bed was comfy and having a suite gave us extra space. Valet parking is the only option and it was $ 40, which seems crazy expensive. Also, the room next to ours had a window that juts out… the people in the room easily could have opened their curtain and seen right into our room… including if we were on the toilet! That could have been really embarrassing! Major design flaw, if you ask me. Overall though, the location is good, the view is great, and the room was comfy.

As soon as I drove into the hotel, I was greeted warmly by staff and did not feel rushed or a burden. As soon as you walk into the lobby, it smells so amazing and I actually never wanted to leave the lobby. Very modern style look to it and verrryyyyyy pretty

Im staying here now for a week and got a good deal! Booked directly from their website! The front lobby is amazing clean and staff are so helpful! This hotel is soooooo clean and brand new! My room has the view of the USS Midway– got a free upgrade! The room is very spacious! The breakfast buffet is so good! They have lots of choices and also waffles with fruits and toppings!
Another good thing is if you are staying longer– they have laundry machine upstairs — you only use credit cards so no need coins. If you need soap– they will give then to you!
The location is so centrally located closed to downtown, Little Italy, Gaslamp, and all the trolley stations! I will definitely stay here again on my next business and pleasure trips here! This hotel is a combo of Springhill and Residence Inn!
I never needed a car except on a weekend if i need to go to LaJolla or other places! I park my car on the street at night for free. You can park 8:00PM– 1000 AM for free! Nice hotel for the price i paid!

Great hotel. Great location near the water and the trolley. Clean room. Great complimentary breakfast. Definitely staying here when I come back to SD. The only thing wrong and it was a little thing, was the air conditioning is not super strong in the room. Price for the room seemed reasonable, maybe a little high. But the personal service from checking in and out, and at breakfast was worth the price.

Checking it this morning, sad to leave. Beautiful hotel on the water front, easy access to downtown with a 10 minute walk. Clean and fresh every time we stepped foot inside. The staff was extremely friendly! Definitely will return in the future. My only gripe is the elevator closes too quickly, but it’s that’s my only complaint and I still give it 5 stars. Then you know.

My husband and I recently stayed here on our trip to San Diego and we enjoyed this hotel. The hotel recently opened and is easy to pick out when looking at it from the Seaport Village because it has a bright yellow section on the outside. We stayed here for 3 nights and had a king size room that overlooked the bay. The staff was really good at giving food suggestions to try in the downtown area. They have a complimentary hot breakfast which had a few different items on it the days that we were there and the staff in the breakfast area were definitely on top of making sure there was food as people came in to eat. One member of the dining staff that stuck out was Jamie, I felt that he made a point to interact with the guests and make sure everyone had what they needed. He truly seemed to enjoy helping all of the guests and definitely made the experience all the more enjoyable! A couple of things the hotel did not have that could help to improve a great hotel in my mind would be if they had a bar and or restaurant in the hotel and it would also be nice if they had even a small area set up to give coupons or brochures out to guest looking to play tourist. The location of this hotel is great to walk to Little Italy, Seaport, Gaslamp even that it would be nice to know of some tours and deals in the area. If they have an area like this we did not see it but just a suggestion on how a great hotel could be even better!

My reviews aren’t good or bad, they’re fair. This is my must know list of pros and cons for Springhill Suites Bayfront Inn.
THE PROS:
1. The guys that work valet, at least when I was hear are some hilariously funny dudes.
2. The hotel, since its so new at the time of my writing this, smells fresh and new. The room and public areas are very clean l, and have a nice modern look.
3.They have free high speed internet that actually works, and you don’t need a password to access it.
4: They have some of the most helpful and attentive front desk receptionist I’ve ever met.
5. The floor to ceiling windows provide an amazing view.
6. It’s within 5 miles of pretty much all tourist attractions and basically down the street from the airport.
7. Nice free breakfast served from 6:30 AM to 9:00AM
8. Digital thermostat you control
THE CON:
1: They only have Valet Parking which is $ 40 Dollars per 24 hours, that’s FORTY FREAKING DOLLARS for everybody. (Common since would say don’t use valet then right? Valet allows in and out privileges for 24 hours and is recommended for overnight guest) There’s a private lot directly in front of the hotel. Their parking averages $ 18 — $ 25, no in and out privileges. You CANNOT charge your guest $ 40 to park. This will basically drive this hotel out of business, because (1) they don’t mention it when you book it, (2) no one will stay here for long periods, (3) its greedy, stupid, and ridiculous. Also there’s no mention of when you’ve hit that 24^th hour, you have to keep track. The quality of the room themselves is not worth it.
2. The bathroom’s have sliding doors. There’s a space between the wall and the door when you close it allowing you to see out and people outside to see and/​or smell what you’re doing if you understand what I mean. Beware if sharing a room with coworkers, adult siblings, etc. (I posted a picture)
3. The free breakfast buffet ends at 9:00AM
4. They have enhanced high speed internet for $ 7 per day. I don’t know if that’s a con or not since they also have free basic high speed internet that works fine.
5. Both I and my wife have T-​Mobile, and could not do anything with our phones, text message or make calls, while in this hotel.
6. The television, at least in our room, is not directly in front of the bed. It can be angled to face the bed more, but I’ve never experienced that before at any hotel I’ve stayed at and I didn’t like it. (Posted a picture)
REASON FOR 2 STAR RATING:
Basically parking fees. Because of no prior warning, it was an unsuspected and unwanted expense.

My husband and I stay here this past weekend. The hotel just recently open 6 weeks ago. There is a $ 40 parking fee per night. I wish they mention that when we check in. The room is clean and modern. The only complain I have is that, there no door to the shower. I’m sure others that doesn’t bother them but for me I don’t like cold air when showering :-). Love that it walking distance to Little Italy. Full kitchen in our room which is awesome (plates, utilities, pot and pan). Pool and breakfast is on the 5^th floor.
Just a head up, there no sign for the street Bayfront. We missed the entrance and have to double back.
We definitely will come back when we in San Diego again.

Staff was friendly especially the breakfast servers.
The hotel is new and directly across from the cruise ship terminal. We had a corner room with couch that pulled out into a bed. It was comfortable but when opened it blocked the way to the front door so you had to climb over the bed.
The room was a good size and especially the bathroom but the sink area was small with little shelf space. That was the only drawback in the bathroom.
You did get a lot of airport noise until about 11pm. But then it started in at around 6am. Most noise was from jets taking off.
I would stay again if I had a room on the other side of the property.
This hotel is both a Residence Inn and SH suites. Either one would probably work.
Parking is 40 per night. There is a pay lot next door that is about half the price if you plan it right.

4 ½ stars. Arrived during the week and was upgraded to a King suite. Parking is valet only at $ 40.00 per night but includes in and out privileges. Being newly constructed — the elevators are super quick and views of the ocean and nearby walk to attractions are solid.
My new modern upgraded King suite had an ocean view and was comfy, included I home Bluetooth, microwave and mini frig which were all utilized. The suite had a mixture of cement unfinished walls, a modern barn style sliding door into the restroom — where the shower was enclosed with heavy frameless glass and sink counter contained a backlit mirror. For all you electronic techies, you’ll enjoy the fast wireless and multiple charging outlets in each room.
The fitness center on the first 5^th floor was adequate with the exception they need another bench. Breakfast is is served on same floor also, but they don’t open until 6:30 am which is late in my opinion. Hopefully they’ll open it up to accommodate the business traveler clientele.
What was nice was there are several choices of restaurants within minutes of walking distance, train & trolley station is across the street and a Starbucks with a large outdoor glass enclosed patio. Unfortunately, the site of homeless people in tents was a huge turnoff.
I would return here again for business or pleasure.

Beautiful new hotel close to the harbor and walking distance to the shops at Seaport Village.
The staff, including valet personnel, were exceptionally attentive and friendly. The rooms were brand new of course and offered a small work station. Wifi is available although I had issues connecting. The free breakfast was one of the best I’ve had. Only one caveat, the bathroom door is a sliding frosted door with a wood frame that does not seal and offer complete privacy. We made a makeshift curtain with a bed sheet to solve this issue. These doors are becoming more common with hotels and I don’t quite understand why. Anyhow, I would definitely stay again if traveling alone, however, the bathroom door situation would most likely be a deal breaker with family.

The potatoes with bell peppers and onions at the restaurant-​sized breakfast bar are delicious and not greasy. One of the servers went out of his way to give a lady coffee creamer when it was right there in front. With a smile no less. And the customer service is excellent. To the lovely USC alumnus and other gentleman who helped us out and gave us tips on where to visit, you’re the bomb diggity. Thanks guys.

My friends and I were able to stay in this brand new hotel for one night this weekend. We were attending a music festival at the Waterfront Park, located within walking distance. The room price was about $ 200 for the night which I felt was adequate for the setting. Parking is $ 40/​night which is to be expected for the area. There is also a lot next to the hotel which is $ 16 for every 12 hours, but you will need to keep repaying at the pay station. We paid the $ 40 since we were staying overnight but because we were attending the music festival the next day, we moved our car to the cheaper lot to pay for the extra hours.
Staff was exceptionally friendly and made us feel very welcome whether it was noon when we checked in or at 3am when we were returning from our night out. There is a small market in the lobby which we took advantage of for some midday Coronas and some late night snack packs. But the downside is that there is no room service at this hotel. I assume it is because it doesn’t have a restaurant. On a similar note, there aren’t really any amenities at this hotel so just be aware of that if thats your thing.
We loved the rooms! We did not pay extra for an ocean view but we ended up with a fantastic room with both a partial harbor and downtown view. Because it is brand new, everything was clean and top notch. There was plenty of space around the 2 queen beds, a closet, desk, couch/​pullout bed, tv, small tables, empty mini fridge and microwave. The bathroom is very nice but the bad thing is, the door is frosted. This means that if its the middle of the night and someone has to use the restroom, the light shines through the glass and illuminates the room. You also have to make sure that you’re comfortable with everyone you’re sharing the room with because the sliding bathroom door leaves a small crack open on the side that can be seen through haha.
Get into this new hotel while you can, since everything is so clean. It is a simple hotel but I loved it and would definitely stay again, especially if I attend another event at the Waterfront Park.

Newly opened! Fortunate to be one of the first guest Amazing view, minutes walk to midway, downtown and other places. Friendly staff and they offered free breakfast, nice interior and comfortable bed. Ocean view or city view. Cons; parking are expensive:(I’ll update my review once I checked out!
