Specs Optometry

I used to enjoy going to Specs and have been a customer since Dr. Fitzpatrick first opened the practice but I haven’t had a good experience the past 2 times I went in for eye exams. Last year photos were taken but I wasn’t informed it was not covered by my insurance and I would have to pay out of pocket prior to the optional service being done. Also this weekend they weren’t really clear about additional fees for a contact lens fitting so I was surprised again. It’s also a HUGE turnoff that the office staff & manager Krista is extremely rude. By the way if you look around you can purchase the same contact lens and/​or glasses elsewhere for about $ 20 less. I won’t be returning here.

This is a fab glasses store and anyone who needs new specs should give them a try. My husband just got a new pair of glasses there and the staff did a great job of helping him locate a very flattering set of frames. What is more they did not try to upsell him, but actually pointed to a reasonably priced set he had overlooked that were just perfect for him. So glad Specs is in South Park! A great neighborhood resource!

My first visit for an eye exam with Dr. Fitzpatrick was pleasant. He is very detailed, patient and took his time to make sure the prescription for my nearsighted is accurate. Highly recommend. Even though I was a Medical patient and only came for the prescription, he was still very professional and thorough.

Scheduled an appointment here after seeing all of the great reviews. Dr. Fitzpatrick (and the temp doctor while she was on maternity leave) were both great. Unfortunately I had the complete opposite experience with the front desk assistant. I had the following issues over a 3 month period:
— Waited six weeks for my contacts to be delivered. After three weeks I asked if there was an issue, and was told they would look into it. I never received an update.
— I was told the doctor may have her baby any day now and they would contact me if they had to close early due to her going into labor. After searching and paying for parking in Little Italy I walked up to a locked door. No phone call letting me know ahead of time not to show.
— Ordered frames and when it came time to purchase glasses was told they had sold the frames they ordered for me to another customer but would order more. Over a month later and they weren’t ordered. Had to ask again.
— Had to call three separate times over a period of two days for the receptionist to email me my prescription. Was told at the end of each phone call that she was sending it as we speak.
— When I finally received the email with my prescription it was an old prescription and completely off from my current. After physically going into the office to verify my prescription she had an attitude and did not believe I had a newer prescription. I explained that it had been prescribed by the temp doc while Dr. Fitzpatrick was out. She then found my new prescription and claimed it was the temps fault and he had not saved my prescription in the correct place.
It seems like most people don’t have issues like this at this optometrist and have a pleasant experience. Unfortunately I will not be returning.

I absolutely love Dr. Fitzpatrick! I was new to San Diego, and found her randonly via my eye insurance website. She is so thorough, such a good doctor! And I really appreciated that she discussed all of the tests and procedures she was doing during the exam, and which ones would not be covered by insurer in case I didn’t want to pay out of pocket (without making me feel like I might go blind if I don’t pay the extra money).
She has an AWESOME selection of frames! I had a really tough time deciding which ones I wanted because she had so many good ones!
I would recommend Dr F to my friends and family, and everyone else I know! I can honestly say my experience with her was the best eye doctor experience I’ve ever had.

Loved the neighborhood, décor, staff, and selection of «spEcks!» Dr. Fitzpatrick was wonderful and really explained what she was doing during the examination. She is very friendly and gentle!
We really enjoyed our appointment and they had a wide selection of local and name brand glasses to choose from.

How do you make an optometry place super adorable and hipster?! Dr. Fitzpatrick got that idea down pat! I’m not usually into the hipster scene but this place just looked so adorable and had amazing reviews, i just had to go check it out myself.
I needed to get new contact lenses and had no problem making an appointment with them. Meeting Dr. Fitzpatrick was great, she was super friendly and approachable, at the same time very knowledgeable in her expertise and work. The rest of the staff were all very amiable as well, friendly and understanding. I’m looking forward to going back to get new glasses, they have a great selection as well, kate spade, ray bans, DKNY, some other ones that are less well known but super cute still.
Love my new optometry place! :) Also, when you order your contact lenses, they will deliver to you for free!

Been coming here to Dr Fitzpatrick for a few years now and will keep on going as long as I’m living in San Diego. She’s super friendly and always is very good at explaining everything she’s doing during an exam. The selection of frames is unbeatable and she has the coolest styles/​brands.
The rest of the staff is awesome too. Always remembers my name (even if they probably just look at the appointment list and guess ;)) and are super talkative and make my time spent there enjoyable.
Ordered a years supply of contacts from them on Wednesday and already got the package, mailed directly to my house (so convenient), today! Talk about speedy service.

Went here to get my first pair of glasses. Already had a prescription so I didn’t use those services. Full selection of glasses from the fancy to the functional and all prices in between. Helpful people with no hard selling, sat and explained everything, helping with all my little questions. In fact my boyfriend, who has worn glasses since he was 3, says he has never been explained what all of those numbers mean in his entire glasses wearing life. Fantastic place, I recommend everyone go here if your eyes need help.

Dr. Fitzpatrick is awesome! She is friendly and knowledgeable and the specs office is really cute. I’m so glad I found this place after moving to the South Park area.

Loyal customer here for years. The staff is friendly and always so helpful. Dr. Fitzpatrick is honest and makes every visit fun. This place has a great selection of hip and vintage specs for big and small budgets.

it’s got this small boutique feel to it. well. that’s probably because it’s a small boutique.
but as a bonus. there’s this optometrist lady that kicks it there.
she will check your eyes. if that’s what you need.

she checked my vision. told me i wasn’t blind and other important things. and i was off on my own looking for a new pair of glasses.
i stood around looking like a dummy. and she helped me find the perfect pair.

I had no problem with my previous eye doc in Hillcrest, but I had chosen it because I worked nearby, and I no longer do, so I decided to try out Specs which is much closer to home. My initial phone call was super easy and the lady making my appointment was very nice and organized. My visit was even better! I walked up on a Saturday morning and was the only client in there for awhile. It’s adorable inside. I was given a bottle of water and walked through my eye exam by Dr. Fitzpatrick. She explained everything she was going to do ahead of time and was super friendly and personable. Because it was still a little slow, she and the tech (I’m so bad with names, sorry!) even helped me pick out my new frames. When I told them my budget they moved me right over to the correct area without a second thought. It was like shopping with girlfriends! I love my glasses, I love this shop. Thanks ladies!

Been meaning to come here for awhile. They came highly recommended by a great source. Very cool little shop with a respectable range of frames to choose from. Probably the best selection of frames I’ve ever seen in a shop. The woman that helped me at the front was super nice and knows customer service. Friendly, knowledgeable and knows when to back down and there’s zero up selling here. This is a perfect example of a business that makes South Park so great.

Yay!!! I was looking for an optometrist that was as affordable as the one I normally see in City Heights, but closer. Specs was one of the first places in my search. I called to find out how much a self pay annual exam would be: cheaper than my previous place and they could get me in tomorrow? Sweet.
Dr. Fitzpatrick is great at her job and provides an efficient accommodating visit. The office is so cute and nice inside! I feel transformed every time I come in. Always friendly reception with low wait time!
I have «special eyes» (just REALLY bad vision, lol) and this is the quickest I’ve ever received contact lenses. ½ to ¹⁄₃ the amt of time I’ve experienced other places. They have to be special ordered and in the past it’s taken up to the better part of a year! Mine were here in within a few weeks. That was one of those things I had gotten used to so it ended up being a nice bonus.
Everyone who comes in leaves happy and it’s the kind of place you feel good about doing business with. It’s on Fern, which isn’t known for their ample parking. But I have appts Friday afternoons and it’s not been an issue. I might come a little early just in case if it’s your first time.
Dr. Fitzpatrick is knowledgable and caring. I look forward to my appointments! Lol. Great place if you don’t have eye insurance so I imagine its OUTSTANDING if you do.

Dr. Fitzpatrick was recommended to me by a good friend of mine who knew I was having constant headaches from working behind a computer all day. He had told me, she was very knowledgeable and would be able to find me the right prescription.
When first walked into specs I knew I was in a good place, the store has a huge selection of glasses that fit my wide face and the prices were fantastic. (So good I ended up purchasing two pairs)
Dr. Fitzpatrick definitely knows her stuff and was very easy to talk to.
The day after I received my new glasses my headaches were reduced drastically and I now feel more productive at work.
I finally found an Optometrist I can trust.

Cool staff.
Did a walk in one day and one of the doctors bent up by frames for me for free as they kept slipping off my face at work. It’s amazing the difference a little tweaking makes to the frames.
Badass inventory setting themselves apart from other optical shops giving that balance between unique but still appropriate for everyday wear.
And they feature Kate Spade. Need I say more?
