So disappointed. Hubby and I stopped by on a whim; we were actually headed to Subway next door but we saw this place and remembered they’d served tacos at a Unilocal event so we decided to check out what else they had. Upon entering, you notice the place is pretty old looking hadn’t been remodeled, like ever. On a Sunday afternoon, there were only a handful of guests taking up seats. We ordered and the cashier was nice. I ordered the Classic pollo Asado burrito and hubby got the California Burrito with carne asada. It took 15 – 20 minutes for the food to come out so I visited the restroom. Apparently, this place is(was) near and dear to Blink 182 so the bathroom has messages scrawled on the door and walls(yeah, graffiti) paying homage to them. Some of it is just tagging and junk. Homage to a band or not, it did not look right and should be taken down. And the gang crap scraped into the porcelain sink was not endearing either. The bathroom wasn’t very clean and it, like its exterior, had not been remodeled either. After returning from the bathroom and sitting down at the booth(and it shaking so hard cause it was broken) our food came. I cut the my huge chicken burrito in half and right away smelled the unpleasant unseasoned chicken smell. I took a couple bites because the guacamole was masking some of the chicken taste, but eventually couldn’t down any more. Even the salsa wasn’t helping. I had hubby try it and he agreed that it was no good. I tried a few bites of the California Burrito and it tasted better. The carne also wasn’t well seasoned but the fries and cheese inside helped with the flavor. I can’t believe they’re serving such unsavory chicken here. They need to make some changes in their recipe book and start marinating/seasoning their meats. Even the tortilla chips were dry and overcooked. First impressions are last ones. Wasted 7 bucks on a burrito I couldn’t eat. I will not be returning.

I support local businesses, I also like to be objective in leaving a review. I ordered their California burrito and it was just ok, I would not come back for it. My wife ordered Pollo classic burrito and it was simply uneatable. The chicken was not marinated at all, it was also all dark meat and it just tasted bad. Not a pleasant experience, don’t recommend it.

I mean it wasn’t bad and it wasn’t good. I stopped here for a bite to eat before work and the guy up front was great very informative they have a simple menu with multiple items I’d give him a 4 Out of five stars. The salsa are all eh not great but edible. All of the tacos we ate were very dry but the price was good. We paid for what we got. We had veggie tacos which I enjoyed after going back up for sour cream and drenching them in sour cream, my boyfriend was less than pleased with their taste. He had a beef taco and fish tacos. The beef was a deep fried taco that he seemed to enjoy, however he was less than pleased with the fish taco(me as well). It was pretty much a fish stick. Yes I realize it’s a deep fried fish but I definitely have had better. We also ordered some chips that tasted old and were super cold but I guess that’s why they’re in a little plastic bag up front. Like I stated above its edible but definitely not anything to rave about.

Well I arrived at 11:35PM, but on the door it says open until Midnight but they told me my order has to be to-go. I would completely understand if it was 10 minutes before or five minutes before midnight. But not 25 minutes that’s ridiculous. Other than that my Burrito did taste amazing inside my car. They put all the hot sauce away so I could not get any hot sauce for my Burrito.

I went here yesterday while my car was getting a spit shine at San Diego Car Care. First visit. When I eat somewhere for the first time, I order something that’s virtually impossible to screw up. Or so I used to think. There used to be a Sombrero in the scripps ranch Trader Joe’s center but it closed a long time ago. They were very good. I guess things have changed. Fair review: NON-FOOD: The people here are friendly and pleasant. Service is quick, and if you eat in, they bring the food to your table. But it’s not waitress style. The place was clean and not overly decorated, which means virtually none. Booths were sufficient. The prices were average for a small Mexican eatery, about the same as the billion or so other similar places in San Diego. FOOD: Not impressive at all. I had the 2-beef tacos combo plate w/rice & beans. The beef filling tasted like… well, it tasted like something other than Mexican beef taco filling, tho I can’t put my fingers on the taste description. Taco shells were the worst I’ve ever had-EVER. They were beyond crisp or crunchy-they were brittle, so much so that they fractured. There goes the filling all over everywhere. The actual taste was like hard, brittle, stale nothing. The rice & beans were also bland and pretty tasteless, except for the added salsa. This is not the first Mexican eatery in San Diego that serves only acceptable food. I rated them a 3 because of the nice people. If I’m in the area, I’ll give them another try with a different menu item but I wouldn’t make a special trip here-neither should you.

Great service, great food. Always nice to come back to San Diego and have breakfast or lunch at Sombreros!

I had a pretty good breakfast burrito from this Sombreros location, but after asking the guy at the counter twice, not to put potatoes, «papas» in the burrito, they still managed to put potatoes in the burrito. I asked for bacon, eggs, and cheese. The Burrito was $ 5 and some change. Luckily the burrito was still good and picked out the pieces of potato. The eggs were well scrambled and lightly seasoned which I helped along with a bit of black pepper. The bacon was okay. I tasted fine, but it was a little chewy not crispy. I think they deep fry their bacon, but I am not sure. The burrito came with a good amount of bacon and plenty of semi melted cheddar cheese. The flout tortilla was warm and moist. It did not have that nice buttery texture I have experienced with other breakfast burrito, but it was still pretty good. Other than the screw up on axing the potatoes, service was friendly enough at the counter. I tried the red and green hot sauces from the salsa bar. The red was much better given it packed more heat and flavor. No potatoes next time please.

It was good. Didn’t blow my mind but it definitely hit the spot as one of the Mexican food places that stayed open a little later. Is it possible that some parts of San Diego spoiled me with me late night Mexican food spots that I am complaining about that? I think so: P

Great spot to drop in with your buddies and hang out for a burrito. Went with the chimichanga and it was a hit. Have been a huge follower of the spot growing up a blink fanatic.

I’ve always loved Sombreros but practically lived here when I was pregnant last year. Their food is always consistently good and hits the spot. My favorite thing to do is alternate my selection every other visit — from carne asada fries to carne asada chips. I always top off my meal with a large cup of their pineapple whip drink — mMmmMM! I cannot get enough of that stuff. Extra perks for super friendly service, decent prices, and a nice, clean restaurant. The only downside is that their parking lot is a bit small and gets very crowded during the lunch hour so plan accordingly!

Mexican’t Tasteless food, watered down salsa. What else do I need to say? The best thing about my steak fajita burrito was the tortilla

Not only was I excited to eat at Blink 182’s old favorite Mexican Food joint, but I was also ecstatic to try out their unique version of the California Burrito. Each place that makes a California Burrito usually puts in their own individual twist. The typical ingredients to any California Burrito is carne asada, cheese, sour cream and of course fries. Sombrero on the other hand doesn’t use sour cream but adds in salsa fresca. The salsa was definitely something I’ve never experienced in a California burrito, but different isn’t always a good thing. I had to add sour cream to create more of a flavor that was lacking. Although it was very sizable, I was honestly disappointed in the taste factor. At $ 6.25, Sombrero serves up nothing but a very Americanized Mexican burrito. What really stood out here was the Carne Asada Fries Supreme! For either $ 7.95 for a full order or $ 5.70 for a half, you get a satisfying tray of crispy golden fries topped with sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and carne asada. I never got to try the fish tacos that Blink 182 likes but I heard they are killer! This place is very clean and even looks as if it has recently been remodeled. It was a plus to eat in a well sanitized area with some quick service. It was nice to see that Sombrero’s owner allows fans to write on a little electric box square in the bathroom for all fans of Blink 182. Fans can also leave letters with an employee up front that stores it in a box for when the band gets time to stop by on tour. The food here might not be anything special but the character of this place surely makes every eating experience enjoyable.

Just plain GROSS. I have been here so many times, but this visit made me realize this is just another chain that does not care about their food. My family and i came to pick up some things for dinner to take home. The cashier was friendly and the food came out quickly. When we got home i realized 2 of the burritos were wrong. We ended up getting two bean and cheese burritos. I would have been okay with it except once i unwrapped the burrito the tortilla was dripping in grease/oil. We also ordered nachos. I have never seen such greasy tortilla chips. After that i lost my appetite. I was offered a free meal, but i honestly did not even want to go back. Jalapeños up the road has much better food.

The service was friendly and fast with a relaxed setting. I could tell my burrito was super fresh and delicious. I ordered the chorizo burrito with beans and cheese. The beans here are ridiculously good. And they have orange bang!

Okay. Late last Saturday I was craving some Mexican food. I wanted something… maybe a burrito. For a brief time I was actually considering the nuclear bombsite that is Taco Bell but then I thought… let’s give Sombrero another try since they’re conveniently open until 3AM on Saturdays! So I stroll in at 11PM and order the carne asada quesadilla. I gleefully took it home and opened the box to find the behemoth grease-bathed tortilla before me. It was… amazing. It was big, it was full of cheese and steak… and it was really, really good. MUCH better than the tacos I had on my first visit. A week later I got another quesadilla for dinner at a more respectable hour and, again, it was good. Yeah, I think 3 stars is solid for this place. It’s open late, it’s got real hunger food, and you don’t have to go splurge at Taco Hell which may be the greatest benefit. I wish the food had more of a, hm, homemade feel to it rather than the standard let’s-make-it-as-greasy-as-possible motif, but whatever, sometimes that’s fine. Their combo plates I think I’ll avoid but their quesadillas? Sure, bring ‘em on.

I used to come here a lot as a teenager. Especially since I saw it on MTV, it was Blink 182 #1 spot. Things have changed, they’ve expanded from 4 tables to like 10. Still love the breakfast burritos and salsa but I just can’t stand the smell. This whole area is sad to me now.

Mehhhh… ehhhh…it’s a’ight. Here’s the positives: Parking Lots of seating inside Clean Friendly cashier Decent salsa bar with jalapeño and carrots Here’s what wasn’t that positive.(Not bad by any means, but not good enough to go back) Nachos supreme with carne asada –lots of unmelted cheese, very tiny amount of guacamole/sour cream, lots of plain greasy chips, very little carne asada. If I was in the area and wanted a taco shop bite, I’d go back. But I wouldn’t drive out of the way and I’d definitely skip the nachos.

What a HUGE disappointment! I wanted to give this restaurant a try because I was in the area and want some Mexican food. I figured that they must be pretty good since they have 3 ½ stars, but boy was I wrong. I ordered the Carne Asada burrito. It was really small compared to the Cotixans burrito when I first saw it(still wrapped). When I took a bite into it, it shrunk even more! They rolled the burrito so that there’s some air inside so it looks bigger! There was fresca, guacamole, and carne asada inside… a lot more of the fresca and guacamole and not enough meat! When you actually eat the meat, it’s actually flavorless if you don’t have the fresca and guacamole. My boyfriend and other friend ordered a steak and egg burrito and shrimp burrito. It seems like those were a little better, but the burritos were very soggy and they started to fall apart when they were about halfway through their meal. I think they have great reviews because it might’ve been good before, but the quality is definitely a lot worst now. For the same price, you can go to Cotixans, Villartas Express or even Fresh MXN food(and they only have 2 ½ stars!) It was a very disappointing meal. I’m definitely never going back to this place again.

Decent food at decent prices. SETTING: Big parking lot. Lots of tables, chairs and booths. Bright. FOOD: Sauce bar with only the green sauce, salsa, spicy red sauce, and jalapeño peppers. The green sauce is really light, not at all spicy. Salsa is average. Red spicy sauce i do not like because its the dark grainy kind. Carnitas Supreme Fries $ 6.99 They use the fat cut fries. It comes out hot. Minimal sour cream and guacamole. They sprinkle cheese on top, its not melted. Carnitas meet is slightly tender but still good. Carne Asada Supreme Fries $ 6.99 They use the fat cut fries. It comes out hot. Minimal sour cream and guacamole. They sprinkle cheese on top, its not melted.(same as above) Carne Asada meat is a bit on the dry side. Just order a small drink if you are dining in because they have unlimited refills. They have soda, tea, horchata, tamarindo, piña colada and cranberry juice. Next time I come back, i might try their new California Taco(carne asada taco with fries)
