Solomon I Cantwell, DMD, MS

I came to Dr. Cantwell on the recommendation of a couple of friends, and after my first appointment, I can certainly see why they recommend him so highly. Everyone in the office was terrific: Friendly and kind, but also efficient and knowledgeable. Dr. Cantwell and Lindsay clearly outlined a course of treatment for me that addresses my immediate discomfort, but also adds a longterm plan to reestablish good dental health. I’m especially pleased no «luxury» or purely cosmetic procedures were proposed at this time. I have confidence I will remain more than satisfied with my experience at Dr. Cantwell’s practice.

For my entire life, I have struggled with having a cavity almost every time I visited the dentist. I brush twice a day and floss every night, but it still didn’t matter. My mouth just didn’t like my teeth. It was both a drain on me mentally (I thought I was doing everything right!) and on my wallet… since cavities are expensive to fix.
Thankfully Dr. Cantwell finally helped me do something about this! He explained to me that my mouth was just more acidic then most people’s and that there were things we could do to fix this. I added a prescription toothpaste to my nighttime routine, added a baking soda tooth brushing after I drank coffee or something acidic to help neutralize the acid and added just 1 extra cleaning a year. This has helped immensely! A cavity is now really rare and I usually walk out of the dentist feeling nothing but fresh and clean :) He saved my teeth!
Both He and his staff are so friendly and welcoming. They explain everything really well and make you feel right at home. The office is adorable with all of their new decorations, and I love that he has a keurig for you to grab a coffee on the way out!
To top it all off, he just added wifi to his office! This is the greatest for when I have to take off work for an appointment because I can use my time efficiently in the waiting room to finish up any emails, etc.
All around, I would recommend this dentist 100%.
p. s. No idea what that random review about him being «scammer» is talking about. Dr. Cantwell has done nothing if not DECREASED my bill and any unnecessary procedures. He’s awesome. She’s off her rocker.

I have to say, definitely the best dental experience I’ve had! First off, the staff is extremely friendly and professional. They greeted me, shook my hand, and seemed happy and polite! Dr. Cantwell and the hygienist who cleaned my teeth were so thorough and I really appreciated that they both went into detail about why I should or shouldn’t do certain things — they explained every procedure clearly and made sure I understood and was comfortable.
I highly recommend them, especially if you have dental anxiety. They were absolutely amazing and thorough. Their equipment seemed to be very up to date and they showed me things about my teeth I had never heard before! Dr. Cantwell even does cancer screenings and palpated my neck and jaw to make sure it was all ok — something I’ve never had a dentist do before. Much appreciated!
I have to get one tiny filling tomorrow but I certainly can’t see why I’d change my opinion after that procedure. The office and Dr Cantwell are simply the best.
I even got a new patient gift bag which included the usual toothbrush and toothpaste as well as a mug and a Chapstick. Cool!

Dr. Solomon fit me in after I chipped my tooth. I know I am not the easiest patient and he has been very professional and upfront about my tooth. I can tell he really cares about his patient and strives to do the best. I am glad to come here.

Dr. Cantwell is by far the best dentist I’ve been to. He saw me on short notice for a very sore jaw, and treated me with the utmost compassion and professionalism. I’d recommend him to anyone. He walked me through everything he saw and recommended.

From the moment the staff greet you, you feel like they truly care about you. Once the extraction started, the Doctor talked me through everything and before I knew it, he was done. I was pleasantly surprised at the whole experience being that I’ve had bad experiences somewhere else.

I am very happy with this dental office! I came here looking for a second review and immediately loved the way the staff helped me through my dental plan and billing estimate. Dr Cantwell talked me through everything and was super patient with me and my dental anxiety! The staff and the Dr were all so kind and made sure to make me feel comfortable and as anxiety free as I could be during each appointment. Their equipment and etc is all up to date and allowed me to have a peek into my dental exams. I HATE going to the dentist however if I have to go, then I’m glad I’m going to Dr Cantwell.

i hadn’t seen a dentist in 10 years and began feeling pain in some of my teeth. Dr Cantwell came highly recommended by multiple UCSD physicians that see him themselves. I was nervous at first but Dr Cantwell was so kind and reassuring and talked me through every step in filling my cavities. I felt so comfortable that I fell asleep!
He worked carefully and efficiently. He has a professional and very sweet staff.

I was recommended to go to Dr. Solomon a couple months ago after going to so many different dentists only to be disappointed time after time. All I can say is how happy I am I finally went. Not only has my experience been great every time but I also feel I received the right treatment at the right price. I was walked through the process and treatment at each visit and felt well taken care of. The best part, I always got a call after each visit to make sure I was happy and to answer any questions or concerns. The staff that works with Dr. Solomon are great also. They are friendly and always make me feel welcomed… you can tell that the office cares about their patients.
To be honest, I never thought I would actually be excited to schedule my next appointment at the dentist until I came to see Dr. Solomon.

Just wow! I completely agree with the others here saying this dentist office is scamming people! I had just moved to San Diego and was looking for a dentist close to work that took my insurance. I should have done research and checked Unilocal before going. I have always had great teeth and had gotten a cleaning every 6 months so I was horrified when I went to this dentist and was told I had 2 cavities and horrible gum disease. I was told I needed to buy a $ 150 toothbrush and purchase special mouth wash. I went along with it the first trip… Purchased everything and went back to have my so called cavities filled. They then told me I needed to come back every 4 months for cleaning, not the normal 6 months. So… I went for another cleaning and of course they claimed I had more cavities. At that point I was done! I checked with another dentist, Dr. Sparrow and couldn’t be happier. He confirmed I was being scammed because my teeth were fine and healthy. I got a normal cleaning and a see you in 6 months. That’s the way it should be.

To top off my already «stellar» review of this con artist I requested an itemized copy of the claims Dr Cantwell’s office sent to my insurance company and he charged my insurance for a deep cleaning that he never performed. He never even gave me a basic cleaning! My insurance company paid him for services never performed on top of all the money he basically stole out of my own pocket. Ugh this guy is a real gem.

I have been seeing Dr. Cantwell for years and refer all my friends and family to him. He is very conscientious and thoughtful. I appreciate the preventative approach he took with me, describing little things I could do now to to prevent large procedures in the future. He seems very intelligent and well trained, with a very well run office. Later when I fractured a tooth, he quickly took care of it. It looks great and I haven’t had a problem in years with the tooth. He is a great dentist. The staff was great as well. Very welcoming. And they have a clean comfortable office.
Dr Cantwell is a great dentist, and I am very happy with all of the care I have received from his office.

My wife and I have both been going to Dr. Cantwell for over a year. We were pleasantly surprised that an actual dentist was the one doing our routine teeth cleaning. He is relatively new to the area and chose to do his own teeth cleanings in order to get to know his patients better. He uses the most up to date technology including taking digital pictures of all my teeth with a fancy little tooth camera. This was great— he was able to show me my teeth on a computer screen and point out the areas that he was going to «keep an eye on.» I read the previous reviews and find it incredibly hard to believe that Dr. Cantwell would try and do any procedure or recommend any treatment that wasn’t necessary. He will walk you through the pictures and explain exactly what you need and why… you can’t lie when the pictures are right there on the computer. Dr. Cantwell is a very thorough and proactive dentist. He would rather do a simple filling now and fix a small problem versus wait for your tooth to rot out so that he has to do some $ 3000 root canal in a year. I would be more wary of a dentist that has a hygienist clean your teeth, then spends two minutes looking in your mouth and says «everything is fine» and brushes you out the door.
The office staff have been incredibly friendly and flexible with scheduling as well.

These guys are great. No complaints. The Dentist is a super friendly person and is extremely upfront and honest. I’ve used him as my dentist for the past couple years and have never had a complaint.
I’ve been very happy with his service, his office is clean, and his staff is friendly. He only does PPO plans, but it’s a higher standard of care than most HMO places.
I also did the teeth whitening treatment with him and it really helped! The dentist makes molds of your teeth and put this special stuff on them every night. Whiter in about two weeks.

PS Don’t bother reading the 1-​star reviews. It sounds like these guys are just blaming their bad insurance on the Dr. If anything, read the filtered reviews (17 more 5 star reviews!)

Dr. Solomon is close to my work — I called same day — walked in a few hours later (via a cancellation) — no wait — no pain — amazing clean white teeth — He’s relatively new to the area & aims to please — great guy & best dentist experience I have ever had.

I’ll start this review by saying that I had a horrendous experience with a dental office a few years ago, that changed me from being a perfectly easy-​going dental patient into a complete basket case dental patient. It was at the point that simply calling a dentist would leave my hands shaking for ten minutes after the call! I called Dr. Taddey’s office when I had a toothache because I used to see Dr. Taddey when I was a little girl, and I had also heard that Dr. Taddey has a new therapy dog that sits in your lap.(Sadly, I did not get to experience this! Maybe next time.)
They had an appointment available with Dr. Cantwell, who works in the same office, that day so I took it. Dr. Cantwell was wonderful. He explains everything that he is doing, and does not act condescending whatsoever. He does not aggressively upsell procedures or dental products like so many dentists do! He makes sure you are aware of what they offer without making you feel like you are on the receiving end of a sales pitch. Personally, I am much more likely to purchase a product if I don’t feel that it is getting pushed on me.
And at the end of the day, Dr. Cantwell was the first dentist I have seen in years that left me feeling confident in his abilities, and confident that I wasn’t getting mistreated.
