Shelter Island Medical Group

I saw the doctor at Shelter Island Medical Group once or twice regarding a medical condition that I have. He diagnosed my medical condition and wrote me a prescription. A month later I needed to provide my employer with a written letter from the doctor (beyond the write-​up he did the initial day that I saw him) further explaining my medical condition. I went back to the doctor at Shelter Island Medical Group and I asked the doctor if he could provide me with a letter that further explains my medical condition that he observed the the previous month. The doctor refused to provide me with a letter, and even said that he is not qualified to provide a letter (this is weird, he is my doctor, but not qualified to explain my medical situation?). This struck me as odd and at that moment I decided that I will not continue as one of his clients. However, that alone would not cause me to write a Unilocal review. What is leading me to write this low ranking review is the fact that he then billed me $ 95 simply for going to his office to ask for the letter. (Mind you, I already paid $ 100’s for the initial visit in which I received treatment, and that is understandable… but billing me for asking for a letter?) During that last visit I received NO medical treatment or diagnosis. I simply asked if he would provide a letter, which he did not, and then he billed another $ 95. He seems a bit like a scam artist just interested in getting your money.

This doctor is in pretty big trouble when I finish law school. My company requested a drug and alcohol screening after an accident at work – mind you I was completely sober. This lunatic instructs me to bend over and spread my cheeks before peeing into the cup, apparently because I might be hiding artificial urine or something. I had admitted to occasional marijuana use. After putting me in this compromising position, the guy tells me that marijuana use was making me feminine. Are you f’ing kidding me? I could punch his lights out right now. Lawsuit coming someday…

Doctor Chambers is an amazing doctor. I have been coming here for over three years. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the prices are really good for care. I highly recommend this place. They have helped me out with many medical issues over the years. They are very fast too and timely on appointments.

I went to shelter island medical group about three years ago, and was double charged for the visit. I paid the balance, and asked them to take the double charge off of the account. Instead they sent it to collections and now the collections agency they use is harassing me. I called the medical group and asked them to rectify their mistake. They stated that it was no longer their responsible since it was in collections. Avoid at all cost!!! Or, keep a receipt to prove otherwise.

I thought an appointment meant you were seen at that time…50 minutes after appointment time and still waiting! Tick tock

First off this place totally sucks the big one.
I have been a patient for YEARS and the reason why I’ve put up with so much of the BS that goes on at this practice is because my life is SUPER busy and they always have an appointment at a moments notice. I guess I’m finally figuring out why!
Today was the last straw. I scheduled my appointment a week in advance for a physical for my new health insurance. My company requires it in order for me to get flex benefit $$$ for being in good health. I get to the office, they check me in all is good until the I go to the back and they say «what prescription are we refilling» I was not there for a prescription refill I was there for a physical and maybe a new prescription depending on what Dr. Chambers suggested. Well Dr. Chambers is on vacation so guess what?!? We can’t help you.
Mind you I am fasting for the blood sugar test I was supposed to take. So I’m pretty pissed at this point. Then instead of apologizing for what took place the chubby curly haired woman makes excuses on how I was actually wrong (wtf?) and tells me I’d have to see the nurse practitioner because I’m a woman and the doctor doesn’t do physicals for women. That is so sexist and I’m not asking him to probe around in my vag so what’s the problem? Also the doctor had never conducted my physical ever. His staff does and they were all there today.
So in short as I told them I’m done. It’s nice the doctor makes night calls for his male patients to provide them their Viagra but because I’m a woman I’m SOL. Sexist pigs.

I have been going to doctor chambers for years and he is a kind man that cares about each client. I always have a ton of questions and he has never once made me feel rushed. At its busiest, I’ve never waited longer than 10 min. After shelter island medical group I couldn’t imagine going to another doctor. Not to mention the employees are so kind and helpful and the same staff has been there for so long it tells me he is a pretty good boss too!

I come here because it is close to my house and it is relatively easy to make an appt with the family practice Dr. I wound not drive out of my way to come here if I lived elsewhere tho. He generally seems really busy but what do you expect from a small family medicine medical practice trying to survive against the big mega hospitals.

Dr. Chambers is the best!!! I have been going to Shelter Island Medical Group for a few years now and have always had a great experience. The staff is friendly and courteous and Dr. Chambers always takes the time to show he cares. I have moved to Los Angeles but still make the drive down to see Dr. Chambers for all my doctors appointments. I highly recommend Dr. Chambers.

I’ve been going to Dr. Chambers for a few years now. He’s always been competent, careful, and had a great attitude with me. And I can tell he cares. He’s always spent plenty of time with me, answered all of my questions fully, and always focused part of our talks on prevention and a healthier lifestyle as a way to AVOID having to see him — which I really like. I recommend him.

As always, Dr. Chambers goes above and beyond what is required to make me a priority and to bring a happy face to each appointment. His latest demonstration of this was coming into his office on a Sunday (yes, Sunday) to treat an acute ear infection which was causing me tremendous pain. I can always rely on him for sound medical treatment and making me feel better immediately. In short, he is truly amazing!

I was not looking forward to finding a new doctor when I moved to San Diego, but I was lucky to find Dr. Chambers. I went in to get my blood drawn for some tests and to get a yearly check up. I hate getting blood drawn and I am a fainter. The nurses were very kind and understanding. Dr. Chambers is incredibly sweet and took time to listen to me. I felt completely comfortable and at ease with him. I will without a doubt return to this office with any future medical attention needs.

I think Dr. Chamers is sleeping with his drug rep, and I am not joking. My insurance company assigned me to Dr. Chambers. The first time I saw him, I went in because my allergies and asthma had suddenly started bothering me and I needed a refill on drugs. He told me the reason for the flare up was that my drugs weren’t strong enough to begin with (which made no sense since I only took them on an «as needed» basis, which was rare) and insisted that I needed a new daily drug instead. I told him I was reluctant about a daily drug instead of as needed and he pooh poohed that concern as silly. Then I said I was trying to get pregnant and asked if it was safe. He said to ask the pharmacist. The pharmacist said «Do not take this if pregnant or trying. And, by the way, you know your insurance doesn’t cover this drug and it is crazy expensive?»
I went back to Dr. Chambers and asked him to just prescribe my regular meds. He refused. And he wasn’t nice about it – he was a rude, pompous, holier than thou jackass. He mocked me for being concerned about the well being of a baby that hadn’t been conceived yet, told me I was ignorant for not believing that the flare up was caused by my other drugs, and waved off my comments about not being able to afford the other drug as irrelevant.
I called my insurance company and had them switch me over to my regular doctor, Dr. Ryan (who is a block away). Dr. Ryan said he thought that I was on the best possible drugs given the effectiveness/​safety for pregnancy. He also said he thought my flare up was from exposure to mold. I went home and looked, and sure enough, I found mold on several window sills and in two closets. I eliminated the mold and the allergy/​asthma went back to being virtually dormant.

Overall a pretty great experience. Not perfect but I don’t think any doctor office is.

I’ve always had a great experience with Amie and Dr. Chambers. They don’t make you jump through BS hoops, and take care of you right away. This is the only Dr.‘s office I’m able to get in and out in less than an hour. I’ve always found parking in back. Buildings a bit old, but that’s the only negative from my perspective.

I have been here for a couple of years and I am very happy after not such a great experience elsewhere. I have a teenager, who has had a number of injuries and we have always been looked after. I even called out of hours and Dr Chambers called me straight back, so total thumbs up. Also its clean.

my referal from sharp emergency to another doctor was terrible. apparently too busy to see me. Then I found Dr Chambers from my insurance book. He was patient and kind. After spending plenty of time listening to me he prescribed what I needed and provided me with additional helpful information as well. I am really pleased so far and plan on only using him in the future!

7 reviews and each one was 5 stars? Nothing suspicious about that. All I can say is my experience with Dr. Chambers was not that of the other reviewers. I went to him over a year while I had insurance, and even then I felt he wasn’t listening to a lot I had to say. It’s obvious he makes his money on volume.
But don’t take my word for it – check out sites (such as
) that deal only with evaluating doctors (not hamburgers, bikini waxers, oil changes, and the rest of the great reviews found on Unilocal). Be sure to look up NED Chambers. His father, who is deceased, was Edward Chambers, and is still listed on some review sites.
Or go find out for yourself, if you’re a masochist.

I was new to the area and did not have a doctor, or even a good refrence to one. I looked at my possibilities through my insuance and from there narrowed it down to Dr. Chambers.
I was able to get an appointment the same day I called. When I first got there I filled out my new patient paperwork and was taken to the back right away. He was extremely nice and kept me very informed. He was not a foreigner, so he was easy to talk to and understand. (same with his staff).
While there he told me Dr. Aimee is a great female doctor if I ever wanted to see her.

Wow, I feel like the luckiest duck in all of San Diego… I just moved here less than a week ago when, of course, I dropped a TV on my head. Well, it mostly slid onto my head. I freaked out, felt fine but wanted to go to a doctor anyway.
So I call up my insurance and they were (surprisingly) quick to change my doctor and I just picked the first one who answered the phone and wasn’t out to a 2.5-hour lunch break. That was Dr. Ned (or Edward) Chambers, and his lovely front office lady Lynne. She was super eager to have me come in, and even transferred me right to the doctor so he could offer his take on the situation. He told me to come in right away.
At my last doctor’s office in Marina del Rey (and I thought I had it really good there!) you had to be transferred around like 10 times, then eventually leave a message for the doctor, who may or may not call you back. AND you had to pay like $ 7/​hour for parking. When I asked Lynne if the parking was free, she pretty much guffawed and said, Of course! I am so tainted by Los Angeles that these thoughts are ridiculous in San Diego.
So Dr. Chambers saw me the SAME DAY I switched my provider to him, and I didn’t even have an insurance card with his office on it. They also do in-​house female health appointments with a nurse practitioner so you don’t need a referral.
He pretty much just shined a light in my eyes, made me do a balance test, fist-​bumped me and sent me on my way. Yup, no handshakes right now! The fist-​bump is the «flu-​shake» hahahaha!
