Thomas S.

Business Owner

Thomas K. Shanner, who goes by «Toby,» was born and raised in San Diego, California. As a graduate of University of San Diego High School, he then pursued a B.A. in English from San Diego State University.

Staying local, he finished his law degree at California Western University, San Diego, California and passed the CA State Bar shortly thereafter. He has been active in the legal community the past 10 years.

Upon completing his education, Toby worked with his father, Robert B. Shanner as a part of Shanner & Shanner for many years. Toby has since started his own practice in Mission Valley in San Diego specializing in financial issues including settling debts, bankruptcy, estate planning and probate. A member of National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys he has participated in over 1000 bankruptcy proceedings. Other legal experience includes personal injury and criminal defense. Member of National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.

I was in a desperate situation where I was having great financial trouble. Bills were piling up. I was falling behind on my mortgage, and had no idea what I was going to do. I finally decided to look into a BK. I had no idea what it was other than the fact that people filed when it was a last resort, and I always thought it was the sign of failure. However, when I met with Toby, Tyler, and Sasha at Shanner and Associates I soon learned that this just wasn’t the case. They walked me through each step and option of my bankruptcy, and explicitly laid out all of my options. They answered all of my questions (even the «stupid ones»), and helped me to make the right choices. I managed to save my house and erase a lot of debt that was piling up. Shanner & Associates made life much easier. My husband and I were hit hard by the recession. We bought things on credit never thinking that he would be unable to find work as a carpenter to pay them off. Things had been real good, then all of a sudden no work. When there was work the wages were very low. We struggled for a few years until we could no longer pay all the bills. That is when we went to Shanner and Associates. We felt a sense of relief that we hadn’t felt in years immediately after the first consultation. They made the bankruptcy process very simple for us.
