Second Thursday Adventure Run San Diego

This monthly event is a lot of fun. It’s free (+5 stars by itself?). If you register early you can get a free beer during the raffle (Stone). Free knickknacks and prizes!
The store has a lot of supplies and knowledgeable staff to help you figure out what sort of shoes you need. Each event is preceded by a 30min-​1hr fair where you can peruse the store or take a look at a number of vendors pitching future running events like marathons or fun runs, demo running equipment like pace counters or support straps/​socks, and try nutritional snacks.
The run itself is a timed event with multiple check-​in stations where you can pick up raffle tickets or earn extra by wearing a costume theme, Adventure Run t-​shirt, and/​or performing physical activities for the station like push ups, lunges, burpies, etc. Pick up as many tickets as you can with friends or family and make your way back to the store to drop off your raffle tickets.
Have a beer in the beer garden if you’re 21+, sometimes ice cream floats or other snacks, and sit through the raffle. There are lots of prizes from free running shoes to gift certificates to restaurants, to free entries to various activities. Some runners like to go to a local restaurant afterword for dinner and drinks.
Bring a flashlight during the fall and winter and wear reflective or bright clothing! Don’t get run over by a car, as the check in stations take you all over the place across many streets and intersections.

So easy:
Register online (free)
Park: we usually park across the street by the soccer fields (free)
Check in inside the store and grab your beer ticket
Buy a race t for 2x the raffle tickets at each spot if you want (not free)
Check out promo tents in the parking lot and listen to a spiel, complete a fitness task, and/​or try samples and grab more raffle tickets and freebies! (Free!)
Meet with the group for the course reveal. Take a picture and get running.
Run 0 – 4.5ish miles (one hour) while stopping at as many marked locations as you want/​can, completing a brief fitness task (push ups, plank, jumping jacks) to obtain more raffle tickets!
Sprint back to RoadRunner before the end time (usually 7ish)
Rip and toss raffle tickets in marker bins for drawing
Enjoy a beer (FREE!!!)
Find a spot on the grass or in the parking lot and organize your tickets as best as you can
MAYBE win free promos, run admissions, gear, or a FREE PAIR OF SHOES!!! (FREEEEEEEEE!!!)
Head out or head over to the post-​run celebration at a local bar/​brewery/​pub.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect at my first Adventure Run, but came along with my friend!
I had a blast, make sure you show up early so that you can get all the raffle tickets from the booths and talk to some awesome people about some awesome products. If you buy a shift you get double raffle tickets, so make that investment!
Any level runner can participate and it’s such a blast trying to find all the check points and participating in the «challenges.»
I’ll be a frequent participator.

I won a one hour massage in the raffle ! woo hoo ! I love the Adventure Run, it is so much fun and I get a workout :)

The new announcers of the raffle prizes rocked Thursday night with clarity and humor, and the beer was yummy.
They just need to significantly reduce the long lines for sign in, and beer. Obviously they would not allow such long lines for the cash register inside.

Did someone say free?
Well if that is what you want to do and this is the place for you. As the name states, every second Thursday the adventure Run is on at Road Runner sports in the San Diego location.
This is the first time I ran this event and it was great. Simply put you run to the designated places (following a secret map that is revealed a few minutes before the run starts) and collect tickets. These tickets are entered into a raffle. If your ticket gets randomly selected you win a price. Simple right? Well the prizes can range from a brand spanking new GPS watch to a box of energy bars. So you can actually get your workout from one to five miles and a change to win some great prizes.
For the beer drinkers out there, what is run without brew right? Well they have beer too as long as you are over 21. The party never stops (well almost).
Good chance to exercise and to win some cool prizes.

I’m hooked. It was my first time participating in the adventure run and it was so fun. I will definitely be back next month.
Next time I will buy the shirt to get and extra beer and double raffle tickets. There are some months that you need a light, so remember to bring one. Try to get back on time so you don’t miss the raffle. I took too long trying to get to all of the stops and ended up missing half of the raffle.
I recommend showing up early to visit all of the booths and maybe even trying some of the products, or just to shop if there are some things you need from the store. Make sure you have something to carry your raffle tickets in. I bought a little fanny pack from the store and it worked perfectly.
It was fun to follow the pack and figure out where each stop was. When you get to the booths there is usually a fun activity to earn more tickets. You can go at your own pace and everyone has fun. You can attend this event no matter what level of runner you are.

[ they usually do 30 – 40 raffles per event ] there is also beer garden [+21 over only] and the free registration gets you 1 beer ticket!
— you get 1 hour to collect as many tickets as possible by visiting various booths and checkpoints or stations set up all over clairemont/​convoy area. some of the check stations have physical challenges like do an X number or pushups/​burpees/​etc.

2. the registration/​packet pick up is inside towards the back left. they will give you 2 tickets, and a ziplock bag, which you will use to put in your tickets.
3. TICKETS TICKETS !!: you get tickets for visiting each of the booths set up in the parking lot, [ 2X the tickets if you have an adventure run ].
4. map is shown right before the run to show checkstation location.
5. after 1 hour of running, everyone comes back to road runner to turn in tickets, drink beer, and enjoy TONS of give aways! [SHOES, gift certificates, nutritional food, protein powder, foam rollers and many more! ]
WARNING: be careful when running as clairemont/​convoy has a lot of traffic!!!

The adventure run is so much fun! Its a great place to meet people and win awesome prizes!

Wife and I have been to this run twice now and both times have been a blast. Sign up online, show up have fun and run! The Stone beer afterwards is a nice touch and we actually won a box of protein bars, we never win anything! Lots of cool prizes and people.

A healthy, free family friendly event. Best of all, for those over 21, there is beer afterwards.
The event is for all types of runners collecting raffle tickets at checkpoints near and far. The prizes vary from free sponsored gifts like massages and car washes to free shoes and GPS watches.
Definitely a fun way to spend a Thursday night and get a workout in.

Ever wanted to be on the reality show «The Amazing Race»?
Well, you can do a toned-​down but still lots of fun version of it every 2^nd Thursday of the month right here!
I tried this out on a whim and so glad I did. It’s free to register. You get raffle tickets at the promotional booths, get more raffle tickets at each checkpoint, then if you’re lucky, win prizes at the drawings. You even get a free beer at the end in the beer garden for pre-​registering.
One of the neat things about this run is that you get to choose the course. In the beginning it’s a mad dash of the crowd, but after the second nearest checkpoint, everyone pretty much goes their own way/​strategy. My running partner has only recently gotten back into running, so we weren’t able to get to all the checkpoints, but next time we will!
This event is very fit-​centric, although there were free chocolate chip cookie samples at one checkpoint. I really enjoyed some of the fitness challenges at the booths and checkpoints. I even earned extra raffle tickets at one checkpoint by beating the current record (at the time) of mountain climbers; I did 120.
To add to the greatness of this event, the proceeds from the beer garden go to charity, and so does any donations you make. Last but not least, there’s an after party!

Who wouldn’t enjoy the following:

For the SD Adventure Run, you typically run between 3 – 6 miles depending on your level of running. You are given a map to go to various stops/​different business around the Convoy area and pick up raffle tickets. The tickets go towards raffle prizes when you return back to Road Runner. You have an hour to collect as many tickets as you can.
The scenery is not pretty, but you do get to know the surrounding businesses and sometimes they even give you coupons! Watch out for the traffic. Some runners don’t obey the rules and cross busy streets and intersections — TSK TSK!!!
Prizes are bomb. Usually there are several pairs of free shoes, drinks, protein bars, shirts, race entries, garmins, heart rate monitors, and so forth.
There’s draft beer in the beer garden for those 21+. The event get super popular and parking and lines to check in and register can get a bit crazy so go early!
The SD Adventure Run is the 2^nd Thurs of each month, while the one in Carlsbad is the 4^th Thurs. I go to both since it’s super fun.
Note: Buy the Adventure Run shirt for extra raffle tickets! It’ll be worth it, especially if you win a prize!

I’m torn between shouting praises so that everyone can have an awesome time, and trying to keep this a secret so that there’s less competition for all the cool prizes. The former seems to be winning. How can such a fun event be free? Everyone should come!
The basic idea is that you get a map with locations marked on it and you have an hour to walk or run to any or all of them. You collect raffle tickets at every place, and some places offer bonus tickets for burpees, squats, or other activities. You can also get double tickets if you buy the event shirt ($ 25, I believe), but I haven’t bothered. At the end of the hour there’s a big raffle for prizes donated by local businesses (a car wash, free food, gift certificates) and some nice running gear including items like free shoes, a Garmin, or a Go-​Pro. There are also booths set up before the run (like a race expo) where you can get extra tickets for trying vendor products. There are usually some races giving out discount codes and food companies giving out samples. Several times I’ve won one of the big raffle prizes like Road Runner gift certificates, but I almost always go home with packets of gels and chews, or a bottle of sunscreen or some such, either from the vendors or from the goodies they toss into the crowd.
Register in advance for a free beer ticket — or take mine! There’s an after party too, but I’ve never gone.

Road Runners! The Adventure Run has to be one of my favorite events in San Diego now. I am sold on running the Adventure Run on a regular basis.
What is the Road Runners — Adventure Run, you ask? It is a laid back scavenger hunt style race where runners can grab raffle tickets at each station they felt find. The more you run, the more stations you hit. The more stations you hit up, the more raffle tickets you earn, the better chance of winning cool prizes at the end of the race. They give out prizes like sports drinks, gift certificates for local businesses, and pairs of New Balance shoes!
There are similar races throughout CA, CO, & AZ. My favorite is in San Diego. They’re friendly. The race isn’t to crowded. The race is more challenging because it is a longer distance. Most importantly, it’s close to 99 Ranch. (Hey I can go grocery shopping after.) Oh yeah, and you can get back in shape with all the running.
My first outing I was so out of shape I couldn’t get to many of the stations/​tickets… but putting myself through a workouts at the gym paid off nicely. I’m getting to the majority of the stations now!
This is a nice change of pace from the boring treadmill. Come on out and try to get some Adventure in your life!
