Specialties
The Scripps Performing Arts Academy is a quality professional training facility for dance and music that provides a creative environment that instills self-confidence, self-esteem and teamwork without sacrificing the core values of dance as an art form.
History
Established in 1987.
Scripps Performing Arts Academy’s journey began in 1987 when Angela Amoroso, Executive Director and Founder, sought to create a dance space where children of all ages and experience could train in a nurturing, non-competitive environment. Her creative talents as a dancer and choreographer, combined with her love for children, inspired Scripps Performing Arts Academy to grow into the leading dance and musical theatre training facility that it is today. Today, the SPAA team is selected not only for their professional experience, but also for their love of children and dance/performing arts education. Each member of the Scripps Performing Arts Academy faculty has the rare ability to carefully balance discipline with fun, joy with hard work and laughter with focus, nurturing dancers and artists of all ages and abilities.
Meet the Manager
Miah N.
Manager
Miss Miah began seriously studying ballet at age eight at The Scripps Performing Arts Centre (now Academy). That June she performed in her first production with the SPAC, «Earthkalah». She trained at Scripps Performing Arts for seven years, and spent the next two years continuing her studies at City Ballet of San Diego under Steven and Betsy Wistrich in their pre-professional division. In the summer of 2001, she trained intensively at The Ailey School in New York City. Miah later attended Fordham University in New York City. Upon her return to San Diego, Miah joined C. Anthony Cole Repertory Theatre and late La Diego Dance Theatre for its inagural season.
Since 2003, Miah has developed a cohesive ballet training program at The Academy that has provided students with the spring board and support system to launch them successfully into collegiate and professional dance programs. Miah overseas all Academy programs and is also the Artistic Director of SPAA’s youth company in residence.
