I have been a customer of SDR for over 10 years and have bought from them when they were at their old location. The store still has a fantastic selection of product.
Recently I bought something there. When I went to pick up the product I tried talking to Frank, one of the owners, about another piece I was interested in.
He blew me off and was offended that I dare talk to him and not the staff.
He was busy playing video games on his computer and did not want to deal with the inconvenience of talking to a customer. Wish Warren or his Dad had been there. I like dealing with them in the past but I hear the Dad has now retired.
In all probability I will not be going back there just due to the rude behavior of the owner.

We purchased a large buffet style cabinet from San Diego Rustic seven years ago. Just recently, because of a remodel, we have been changing the furniture in a number of our rooms. We returned to San Diego Rustic to exchange the piece we purchased for something different. Since the time we made our original purchase, SDR company ownership has changed. However, despite seven years having passed and the ownership change, the new owner gave us a substantial credit on our original purchase as part of the exchange for a new, smaller cabinet that will better fit our front room. San Diego Rustic continues to have an enormous warehouse full of many different kinds of cool, rustic, imported furniture at affordable prices. We found something that will work very well for us. We appreciated that, even after the business had changed hands, the owner continued to provide a very reasonable exchange on our original trade-​in. He was direct and candid that it was not possible for the new SDR to maintain a full trade-​in policy, but we felt that the exchange he offered was more than fair given that we have had seven good years of use in our original cabinet.

I have always loved this store. I just never had a need for new furniture. One day, I stopped in to look at queen sized bed frames. Every selection I chose only came in king size. Eventually, I was talked into purchasing a king size frame.
This bed frame broke! With me in it! Not long after I had begun using it…
I took the broken piece back to the store for repair. I waited for more than a month to get it back. The only reason I got it back was because I called to see what the hold up was. (Meanwhile, Im sleeping with my mattress on the floor).
I get the repaired piece out to my truck. I notice that the stain was different in 2 places, and the repaired piece was not varnished like the remainder of the piece.
I went back inside and asked why the repair was so terrible. They handed me a small bottle of stain to fix the problem myself!
This bed has broke 2 more times. The second time, my boyfriend fixed it and made the frame more sturdy.
This last time, the screws holding the foot board to the side rail have pulled completely out of the wood. They are bent, so I will now have to buy more to replace them.
I am completely dissatisfied! This is an enormous bed and it hurts (and scares the s#!t out of me) every time it breaks!
Apparently– this is a perfect example of how looks can be deceiving.

This place WAS awesome at one point, but it has new ownership and they completely suck now. When someone asks me where I got a piece of furniture I bought from them I will tell them the store is out of business. Over the years I’ve purchased a lot of furniture from SDR. One of the reasons I kept going back was their exchange policy, they guaranteed that if at any time, as long as there was no damage, I could bring the furniture back for full store credit. As a matter of fact, here’s one of the owners bragging about it in a response to a previous bad Unilocal review,
«We have been in business for over 8 years and 50% of our customers are repeat or referals from other happy customers, so we strive for good customer service. Unlike any retail store that I have ever heard of we offer a lifetime warranty and or exchange on any wood products as long as its not abused.»
I can say before this new owner came to be I would agree wholeheartedly with the statement as I had a couple issues that were expeditiously dealt with to my satisfaction. However, none of what was posted above is true any longer. I’ve been remodeling my house in phases for a couple years, the exchange policy was attractive as I felt if the furniture no longer worked in a room, no problem, I’d bring it back, get something from them that does and all is good. Unfortunately when the new owner came in and has decided to no longer honor that policy. I can understand changing it and not offering it on a go forward basis, but to tell loyal customers that it will not be honored is rubbish. I’m stuck to deal with something that I was told I would not have to, that’s nothing short of lame. To add insult to injury, the new owner is a complete jerk about it, he thought it would be cute to tell me he’d give me something for it, more than craigslist, but he would not honor the original terms of my purchase. I can go on and on about how far SDR has slid, the good old days they cared and provided great service and reasonable prices. Now, they are jerks with high prices and crappy service. Save yourself the potential headache of dealing with them should something go less than perfect, it’s just not worth it, buyer beware…

Fabulous selection of craftsman furniture, eclectic decorations, and really cool water features can be found here. This place is off the beaten path but worth the journey. If you are looking for exotic yet contemporary furniture for home or office check this place out.

Found this place on craigslist looking for a buddha statue for my garden. When i got there i was blown away by all the cool antique or antique looking stuff they have. Some of the stuff are actual antiques, while others are new/​antiques, meaning they take old antique reclaimed wood and repurpose them as something else. There are some really awesome old gateways, chests, cabinets. tables and other decorative items.
I think some stuff is reasonably priced, while others are on par with high end shops. But if i had to choose between something from pottery barn that everyone could get versus something unique, hand crafted and rustic for the same price, I’d choose this place every time!
Rustic is the name of the game here, everything has so much character. I ended up getting a medium size buddha statue for $ 60. Thats much cheaper than you’d find anywhere else in SD. Of course its just a poured concrete mold that is painted to look aged and also «Hencho en Mexico» but for a garden and for a fraction of the cost of anywhere else, its a great deal.
I wish i had more room in my house (and money) to get some of the awesome tables and furniture here. If you are looking for something unique or possibly a conversation piece for your home, it’s definitely worth checking SDR.
Note there is also an outdoor showroom with pottery and statues.

We visited here yesterday and were very pleased with the customer service as well as the beautiful furniture! We were there to price dining tables, but I ended up buying a few small things for our bathroom that we are in the process of remodeling. We will definitely be back because we love the idea of a custom-​made dining table and loved the customer service!

What a gem this place is! Totally worth the drive out to this area. They have such interesting and unique pieces that are authentic. Nothing was outrageously priced which made it even better! The owner and the sales lady were super nice and friendly, very informative, great stories, and no high pressure selling. Please go here!

Love this place! Every time we visit there’s new items we just have to put in our home. The staff is always so helpful with suggestions and design ideas and they have even made pieces to fit our specific needs and space requirements. An eclectic mix of items from all over the world and very reasonable prices!

This place is a hidden gem, Frank, Marilyn and Warren were a joy to work with they have so many interesting pieces to choose from, and we loved hearing the stories about where they came from. I don’t know anyplace else that you can pieces if furniture made from 300 year old doors. I would definetly shop here again.

Beautiful collection of excellent furniture! They custom made a long credenza for me about a year ago and I still LOVE IT! I will be using them again. «Ash» is also a true professional!

We just happened upon this place on a Sunday drive. Beating our heads trying to find something different and unique for our first offices as a small business owner. We’ve been without furniture because we refused to settle on typical office furniture.
We are SOOO glad we waited! The owner gave us the history and suggestions. Boy was he spot on. We only ended up seeing about half of the place. I wanted to spend the whole day there! Now I want to redecorate my whole house with this place.
Anyways – the pieces are unique and different, beautifully crafted and hand carved. Tables and chairs and accessories and bed frames and dining tables you would see on Cedros for over $ 4K were her for roughly 1K. HAND CARVED.
You won’t be disappointed.
Looking forward to getting our stuff this week.

We live in Los Angeles and found San Diego Rustic through a friend. This place is FANTASTIC. They have amazing stuff and were incredibly helpful when it came to helping us find the perfect piece for home. Definitely worth the trip from LA! We will be back! :)

LOVE this place, If you like fab and funky this is the place. You should know a bit about this style of furniture and what they sell for before shopping, hidden bargains amid the pricey pieces. So always a fun shopping trip.
I was thrilled to find Real Talavera pottery here. They even had a sink!!! Wear jeans and dont be afraid to get dusty! This isnt the frou frou type of showroom, this is for the Décor hunter on a mission! LOL
I heard they were relocating in June, cant wait to see the new space and find some new treasures.

I see it has been a while since there has been a review. My wife and I ordered several custom pieces for our new home to be made in India. We dealt with several folks along the way. The owners were helpful and gracious. Christian was amazing. The pieces were going to take a while, and Christian offered «loaner» pieces” while we waited. It was especially nice to have a dining table. When the new pieces arrived, the cabinet was perfect, the desk was not the right design, and the table was out of level. Christian apologized and worked with us to get new pieces made. All the new pieces were beautiful, but the new table developed serious cracks in the top right away. Christian offered a refund for the table, and let us keep the table. We are having a local furniture maker construct a new top since we like the design so much.
So…I would say our experience with San Diego Rustic was great, despite the challenges. Just know that, if you order furniture, it may not be perfect. It is not supposed to be. That is part of the charm. San Diego Rustic did everything it could reasonably have been asked to do. The delivery guys were great too. We highly recommend San Diego Rustic.

This is a hidden gem for one-​of– kind pieces!
If you appreciate handcrafted furniture pieces from India– this is to die for! I love that they make many of their furniture pieces from salvaged items– antique doors, railroad ties, benches– you name it. The result is a variety of unique items– some are «new», reproduceable items– i.e. you can order dining room tables in standard sizes with matching chairs. Other items are antique buffets, chests, bookcases and armoires.
Christian– the owner was very helpful and made suggestions as to how to select the right pieces and how to build a collection– very low-​key– no high pressure sales pitch.
I was impressed by the quality of the pieces– all hardwood– mostly rosewood — very sturdy — unlike the cheap stuff we found at most of the other standard furniture stores around Miramar Road.
