San Diego Perinatal Center

I never give reviews, unless they are goo, but I went to see the center because my OBG recommend it. I am a hi risk pregnancy because of my type 1 Diabetes since age 4, I am 29 now. I am not a perfect diabetic but I really think Drs don’t now when they talk about it and the struggles.
I was seen at 9am for an ultrasound and they were supposed to check for the liquid on the back on the babies brain, during the exam it turn out I have 1 artery in the umbilical cord instead of 2 and just dropped it on me with no explanation and no response to my questions and concerns.
Later saw Tevy Tith, MD at about 11am not to mention she is about to pop a baby in a couple of weeks and said I had to go to the hospital to be monitored, because she is on call. I been here all day, she gave no instructions on what to do on my arrival and after having to call their offices I got 2 heart tests (not relevant to why I was admitted) and 1 blood draw. I been having to monitor my glucose and they didn’t even set diet restrictions got a call to choose from a parmesan chicken sandwich with potatoes where I had to tell them no and then they asked you want half. I am furious, I could be working at home monitoring my sugars and if they needed follow a diet. There was no need for her to send me to the hospital. I called her office and she said that if I left she would tell my OBG not to see me and she would not see me again (which her I really don’t want to ever see), but I like my OBG. Forgot to mention that she took my OBG and put me under her care. Be careful.
I am here in the hospital doing nothing but occupying a bed and checking my sugar levels by myself and writing them on a piece of paper at 5pm.

What is up with the terrible scheduling? I mean there are bad reviews regarding the scheduling waiting times from more than 2 years ago and it doesn’t seem like it has improved. I can only review the scheduling part because it was so bad that I decided to go somewhere else. So much for first impressions. Scheduling an appointment I was ‘3^rd in line’ according to the automated message, however I waited a good 60 minutes til a person picked up to schedule me. No appointments were available in close proximity and the only one available appointment was in Murietta which is a 1:15 hour drive one-​way. I took the appointment while I tried to figure out other options. Today I called in again to cancel and again waited and waited to cancel an appointment. How is that even possible? Why not offer a cancellation button on your homepage? Make it easy for your customers? Yikes… No thank you! Urgent improvements highly recommended.

I’m not a person who always leave reviews, be honest it is one of my first! But I definitely have to tell this long story for people who are looking on a great doctor and person.
From beginning… I was on my 7 month of pregnancy when I want to change doctor for MD Holly Casele. So, last weeks nothing huge, almost done. I made an appointment and had to wait a month to see the doctor. Of course I was disappointed because I didn’t have such a lot of time but anyway I though: «Ok, it is a good sign, she must be a good doctor if she so busy! They couldn’t calculate me the price for regular ob-​package, even approximately, at least for understanding rate! So, I was waiting on my appointment with out even information. And do you know what? They called me one day before and canceled and say that I have to wait 3 more weeks! When I came to the office I was talking to the receptionist and ask her to say price before appointment while Doctor Holly Casele was sitting right behind her and heard our discussion. However receptionist was between us, so imagine… I’m talking to receptionist then she turns back to Doctor, repeat all what I’ve said in spite of Doctor heard me perfectly and then she repeat to me decision Doctor about price! It was few times and through all conversation Doctor didn’t even look at me or say hi to her patients or anything!!! Eventually they pronounced a price and it was 7 000 $ for 1 left month till my due date!
Of course I refused and even I didn’t know how to be I was more than sure that I don’t want be her patient!!! We came out with my husband so angry that agreed don’t remind each other about this Doctor and clinic! BUT we made one ultrasound with them before and paid same day for provide service 500 $! No one said anything. We took receipt and that’s it. After few weeks then sent us a bill!!! Bill for 550 $ extra for one kind of dopler which they used and for doctor’s consultation, but guys!!! It was2-​minute consultation! No more!! she just comment a ultrasound, that’s it! Was it so hard for Doctor to charge me for that!!! And ok if you charge so let me know how much is service and they you going to Bill me. Don’t treat like I paid that same day for all services which they have done!
So I would never come back there and this review it’s last thing which reminds me about this clinic, after I finish I hope to forever forget about them and don’t receive new bills!!!

I had a high-​risk pregnancy and was followed by Dr. Casele. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her and most of the team. At times I was seen by Dr. Catanzarite and Dr. Cousins, both absolutely wonderful. Dr. Catanzarite admitted me a couple of weeks before my due date, but I was ultimately discharged and had a healthy baby right on time. I loved Dr. Catanzarite. He took so much time explaining what was going on, risks, options, etc. She stayed with me until every last question of mine was answered. Top notch.
During the time I was admitted by Dr. C., I was seen by Dr. Adamczak. Wow, what a rude and condescending doctor! I was so shocked by her behavior. At one point, she looked at me and said something like, «I don’t even know why you are here, you are obviously just having Braxton-​hicks» and something else I can’t remember exactly, but it was as if I was being ridiculous by even coming to the hospital. I wish I had said, «Well, I am here because your boss, one of the most well-​known and well-​respected perinatologists, Dr Catanzarite, thought I needed to be here!» I still can’t believe how rude she was. She didn’t even introduce herself when she came in. It happened so fast, she came in, said her piece, discharged me and then was gone.
Overall, I would definitely go back to and recommend the SDPC. I would not recommend Dr. Adamczak. I don’t like being around that kind of attitude, especially when I’m pregnant, and most especially when I’m in the hospital and scared!

My wife had a NT scan here last week, and I’m only giving this place 3 stars because we loved our ultrasound technician. I believe her name was Cathy, and while she was serious and quiet for most of the scan, she was kind and communicative, especially if we asked her questions. She was very focused and deliberate, which made me trust her findings all the more.
The real rating I want to give is 1 star, to reflect the overall experience. We paid $ 900+ for this scan because we felt it was important. Our doctor for the appointment, Dr. Wade Schwendemann, was with us for less than 3 minutes, all the time standing in the doorway, which was OPEN by the way (enormous privacy violation) while someone we think MIGHT have been an employee there stood there waiting for him. He informed us that he had a phone call waiting. Can you believe that? He did not explain anything or answer any questions, but he started rattling off tests that would come in the future, did not explain where they would be taken or when, and then abruptly left. It was jarring to say the least.
We loved our RE, our OBGYN, and when we found out we were having twins and would need a MFM practice to supplement our care, we thought this might be the place since they are so close to Sharp Mary Birch. The other MFM practice that delivers at Mary Birch is Specialty Obstetrics up in Del Mar, and even though they are far away, they are still very popular. After my visit to SDP, I think I understand why. We’ll be heading to Del Mar, it seems.

I was referred to San Diego Perinatal by a good friend when I started having issues early in my pregnancy. The doctor I had before I ended up at San Diego Perinatal was doing just about nothing to help me. It was a horrible experience but thankfully Dr. Kristin Williams from San Diego Perinatal took me on and saw me throughout the remainder of my pregnancy (which was most of my pregnancy) and then delivered my healthy baby boy. Dr. Williams took such great care of my baby and I. She provided the care we needed! She is an absolutely wonderful doctor! I am truly blessed and so thankful for her and this group. Also, the nurse, Irma is wonderful as well! She is very sweet and knowledgeable and was great with getting back to me and answering any questions I had between visits. It was truly a great experience!

I LOVE San Diego Perinatal Center. I cannot say enough about this amazing group of people. The office staff was so friendly and helpful and always tried to help me find an appointment that worked with my schedule.
The reason I really wanted to write this post was to praise Dr. Adamczak for being the best doctor ever!!! I was referred to this office because my baby was considered at risk. Being overwhelmed with emotion throughout this process, I really had to depend on the advice from the medical staff. I happened to get Dr. Adamczak at my initial appointment. She really helped me understand my options and gave me medical advice that calmed my nerves and helped me to understand what could be going on with my baby. After our first appointment, I knew my baby and I were in the best possible place and would receive outstanding care.
To Dr. Adamczak it was probably a routine appointment, but to me it was so much more. It was the first appointment I felt like things were going to be okay. From that visit forward, I saw Dr. A for every appointment. She has just such a positive, bubbly personality that my husband and I actually looked forward to our doctor appoinments :) I cannot thank her enough for everything she did for my family at such a vulnerable time. I would highly recommend this office and especially Dr. Adamczak!

Not liking how I made my appt a month in advance, got a call today to come in earlier having to change my schedule around. I also had a second appt after my first one so the firsy office I went told me go straight to the next appt. So here I am 2 hours early for my second appt, and they could’t even tell me that illegal be seen closer to my oringal appt, thanks guys for allowing me to plan my day well. Not a good start with this clinic. Very disappointed already.

I decided to switch from regular OB care to this perinatal center when my pregnancy seemed to be more difficult than average, and I feel fortunate and happy that i did so, since I ended up developing pre-​eclampsia and thanks to the good care I received here this complication was discovered before it had even fully manifested and was followed up carefully until the birth of my baby. I had appointments with several of the doctors of the group, and was happy with all of them. I was perhaps least happy with the doctor I had signed up with as my main care provider. I chose to go with Dr. Casele because of the good reviews I had seen here, and because I could not get an early appointment with Dr. Catanzarite, who had been my first choice. Dr. Casele is professional, friendly and competent. The main issue I had is that Dr. Casele only works one day a week in the location on Frost Street. Therefore it was not really possible to schedule most of my appointments with her. I had hoped to develop more rapport with my doctor, since this was my first baby, but because it was so hard to get appointments with her she was not really in charge of my care, and most of my care ended up being provided by the other doctors. Of these doctors two stood out for me: Dr. Catanzarite and Dr. Tith. Dr. Catanzarite is absolutely an excellent doctor: he is thorough and careful, he listens to what you are saying, he communicates everything he sees on ultrasounds, and he communicates risk assessment in a way that you can understand what is going on and how worried you should be. Because Dr. Catanzarite’s thorough approach i had extra exams that helped spot the pre-​eclampsia and oligohydramnos [sometimes a side effect of pre-​eclampsia]. Some people on this forum reported that they do not like Dr. Catanzarite’s bed side manner, but I would sign up with him again, because his careful and thorough approach really was vital in bringing my pregnancy to a good end. The second doctor that stood out for me was Dr. Tevy Tith. She was just so sweet and friendly, she is all you would hope for in an OB.
The only negative was that it was sometimes quite hard to get in touch with the nurses, since there was often no one available to talk to on the phone.
Overall I had a good experience here and recommend this center to others.

Dr. S. Sean Daneshmand is by far the best doctor I have ever been too. His bedside manner is amazing. He really cares about you and will sit and talk with you and answer any questions you have. He even would text me and ask how I was doing. (WHAT DOCTOR DOES THAT?!) The perinatal center was very nice as well. No problem with appointment scheduling. Thank you so much for all of your help! I cant believe there are anything but 5 stars for this place.

I am actually quite sad and shocked by the awful reviews of San Diego Perinatal. Especially the one about Dr. Adamsack. I was reffered to San Diego Perinatal by Dr. McNally when I found out I was having Spontanous Triplets. I literally went to this office every week from March to June when I was put in the hospital. I saw every DR there and was extremly pleased. My main Dr was Dr Adamzack and she was so nice and POSITIVE, since most people are not very positive about a Triplet Preganancy, I was so happy to have her. I also loved Charlotte and Rita in the Ultrasound department. They were always so nice and patient with me and answered all of my questions.
I was placed in the hospital at 25 weeks on bed rest and I was so impressed by all of the Dr. s who did the rounds and came in and checked on me during my stay. I ended up having an emergency C Section by Dr. Tith at 27 weeks and 4 days, she was the one that saw me almost everyday in the hospital until I delivered. She made the deciscion to deliver me that day. She was wonderful, I have three healthy boys that are now 5 months and you would never know that they were born 3 months early.
I honestly think the reason why I made it through my preganancy was because of Dr. Adamazack and Dr. Tith. I can not thank them enough for my miracles.
I think the people that wrote bad reviews need to realize that these Dr’s are working everyday to deliver healthy babies from HIGH RISK patients and if the wait times are longer then usual it is probably because someone else needed more attention that day so their baby had a chance of survival or a normal life.
I believe EVERYONE at San Diego Perinatal Center went above and beyond and I would reccomend them in a second.

Dr. Adamzcak was my doctor and I cannot praise her enough. As a first time mom I was really nervous but after being with a big hug when we met, I knew I was in caring hands! She was so personable and professional. Always on time and always made me feel like I was her only patient. She listened to all my needs and took time to answer all my questions while giving me the best options for the welfare of me and my baby!
After getting pregnant for the second time I was excited to call and let Dr. A know! Again, she was an amazing doctor from beginning to the delivery! I give her 5 stars!!!

It has been 6wks since I delivered twins and I can not stress how horrible my «sharp experience» was at the hands of DR. JOANNA ADAMCZAK. I had seen Dr Williams thru my entire pregnancy & had no issues with her. UNFORTUNATELY, DR. ADAMCZAK was the attending physician that day and I immediately found her rude & condescending! Having NEVER MET HER PRIOR to delivery, I was immediately turned off after hearing her repetitively suggest I have a cesarean section. Not only did she FAIL TO introduce herself but also did NOTHING but bring stress & panic to the OR as she prepped for a c-​section; IT WAS PURE CHAOS! I WAS ALONE W/​O SUPPORT yet I managed to advocate for myself and insist that the birth plan my OB &I had discussed be followed. Dr. ADAMCZAK was VERY UPSET & EXCUSED HER SELF FROM THE OR when I asked for a vaginal delivery & stated I DID NOT WANT AN EPIDURAL! I was aware of the risks & possible complications however having delivered 2 previous pregnancies VAGINALLY & COMPLETELY UNINTERVENTED, my twin pregnancy was just as text book EASY & both babies showed NO SIGNS OF DISTRESS! I was talking & texting my husband, who was out of state, while on the table for crying out loud! I AM 110% CONFIDENT IN MY REQUEST and just as disappointed in the way Dr. ADAMCZAK conducted herself as a physician. Upon her return ONLY THEN did I realize she was the dr who was going to deliver AFTER she stated «there is no other physician, GUESS YOU’RE STUCK WITH ME!» I thought she was a nurse! NO THANKS to Dr. ADAMCZAK, BOTH twins were born perfect, healthy & VAGINALLY! I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT I WOULD’VE HAD A VERY UNNECESSARY CSECTION & very rough recovery had she had her preference. Unfortunately my attempts to address the issue with the office has been unsuccessful!

My current experience with San Diego Perinatal Center is markedly different from my positive experience there (with Dr. Cousins, who is now semi-​retired) four years ago with my first child. Here’s what has happened in the last three times that I visited during my current high-​risk pregnancy:
(1) Each time I’ve called to make an appointment, I’ve been on hold for 25 – 55 minutes to reach a live person. After the longest hold, I was told by the scheduler that she was the only scheduler answering the phone.
(2) At my first appointment, the doctor decided not to even see me after reviewing the ultrasound technician’s results. The technician said that the doctor thought everything looked fine and would see me only if I had specific questions. That doctor was Dr. Holly Casele, whom I never did meet. They nonetheless charged the insurance company $ 918 for the doctor’s visit, even though I only saw the ultrasound tech.
(3) At the second appointment, I was assigned to a different doctor. Upon arrival, I asked the receptionist if the wait was long, in which case I would go back to the car and get my work to do in the waiting room. After she assured me that I would not wait long, I ended up waiting 40 minutes to see the ultrasound technician. My visit with Dr. Wade Schwendemann after the technician was perfunctory and lasted less than 5 minutes. He did not seem that interested in taking the time to answer my questions.
(4) At the third appointment about two weeks ago, I called the office en route to let them know I was running late and to find out if I would have to reschedule. I was on hold for 30 minutes before a live person answered just as I was walking through the door. I was 19 minutes late. The receptionist — I believe her name was Maretess — promptly told me that I would have to reschedule because I was past the 15-​minute grace period. I asked her to check with Dr. Schwendemann to see if he could squeeze me in. (After all, I waited 40 minutes last time; and other Unilocal reviewers have waited a lot longer.) After consulting with him, she said no. Then, I explained that I had been having pains — and at an emergency visit to my OBGYN two days earlier, my OBGYN wanted to make sure that San Diego Perinatal Center took certain measurements that day to confirm that I was not at risk for dangerous premature labor. The receptionist checked with Dr. Schwendemann again and returned with the same answer: No.
I expressly acknowledged the fact that I was late to the appointment. But, I also expressed great surprise that San Diego Perinatal Center seemed unconcerned that their inflexibility might be putting a high-​risk pregnancy in danger, in light of my ongoing pains and my OBGYN’s concerns. (I suspect that their malpractice insurance carrier would care more about having me seen immediately than their doctors would.) The receptionist just advised me to go to triage, and offered to reschedule me 8 days later.
Collectively, my recent experiences with San Diego Perinatal Center suggest a significant change from their practice four years ago. Back then, the doctor I saw was vested in my care and did not let the ultrasound technicians do all the work. On the same day of this last visit, I decided to switch mid-​pregnancy to the Scripps La Jolla Perinatology group, which my OBGYN had recommended. I called Scripps La Jolla Perinatology that same afternoon and got a live person within a minute — and was offered an appointment the next morning. I cannot in good conscience let other high-​risk pregnant women choose San Diego Perinatal Center for such an important medical need without having the benefit of knowing my poor experience there.

I was very nervous going here after I read a bunch of terrible reviews, but thank God I was very surprised by how great they were.
I called to schedule an amnio and since I was close to the 22^nd week, they made me an appointment for the next day! The lady at the front desk was great and there were a lot of people there but they were all seen right away it seemed like. I was called up for my apt less than 5min after I gave them my paperwork.
Ms Onozuca, the genetic counselor was wonderful, very kind, thorough and sympathetic. She went into great detail about all of the testing options and kept asking if we had anymore questions.
Immediately after, they were ready for the ultrasound. Wendy was the tech and I have seen several negative reviews about her on here, but she was the most caring tech that we have had this whole pregnancy. She kept asking if I was comfortable and explained everything that she was looking at. When the DR, Adamzacky (or something like that) came in to do the amnio, Wendy was great and really comforted me the whole time and wished us well.
If this place had problems before, it looks like they have really changed things around now because I was so surprised with the fast turn around and how quickly we were seen. I called after my amnio and the nurses got back to me within 30 min to answer my questions. I am really glad that we came here and I highly recommend them.

I agree with Kim G.‘s review. Wendy did the same thing to me and was awful! I left the center so angry and disgusted. I will be requesting a different tech next time.

Dr. Daneshmand is one in a billion he is an amazing doctor and so compassionate! We also had the pleasure of seeing Dr Catanzarite too he is awesome and so knowledgable. With their help and the rest of their team, They saved my baby boys life. I was being monitored and seen frequently by Dr. D when my water broke at 24 weeks. They kept me pregnant as long as possible and had my son via c section at 30 weeks. The care I received by these two amazing doctors and the staff was just incredible. I am forever indebted to these men, nurses this place and sharp Mary birch. :-)

Morons! This place is a dump. The office is unkempt, and the scheduling staff is dumber than a bag of hammers.

Well, it’s been 16 months since I had my son and I’ve got the baby fever again! I don’t know yet if I’ll try to carry another pregnancy or hire a gestional surrogate, but I do know Dr. Catanzarite will be my doctor again either way! I still can’t believe I went from being told my 20 week old fetus wouldn’t survive by my first doctor, to having a healthy FULL term baby boy under the watchful care of Dr. Catanzarite. There were days, after weeks, in the hospital I wanted to give up and just walk out, but Dr. Catanzarite and all my nurses always reminded me why I was there and what our end goal was. Dr. Catanzarite made me feel like I was an important part of the decision making process and not just some helpless incubator. He respected my choices and always explained his to me clearly. I far surpassed the original goal of making it to 32 weeks by 6 weeks! I genuinely hope if I do get pregnant again I have an easy pregnancy, but if I don’t I know my baby and I will be in the best hands at San Diego Perinatal Center! I can’t wait to see everyone there again!

I was a surrogate mother who was carrying twins when I started seeing dr. Catanzarite. I was just going to see him for special ultrasounds that a normal obgyn does not perform. Let me just say how amazing dr. Catanzarite is… I started seeing him at 12 weeks while being under the same care with my regular doctor. At 25 weeks we went back to have another heart echo done. A cervix check was part of his normal routine.
It all started at 25 weeks when he found my cervix was short. He sent me into Mary Birch for a week on hospital bed rest and also caught that I needed a iron transfusion as well. (Something my own doctor did not catch either) I was released and rechecked a couple days later. We then found that my bag of membranes had separated from my uterus leaving me no other choice but to be readmitted for two more weeks. Two weeks came and I was able to go home for another couple days. A couple days later he checked my cervix again to find it had shortened AGAIN! Back we went to the hospital. I at this point was so beyond frustrated. He was always there to remind me of how important everything was and it would be ok. When I was 30 weeks I was able to go home since I had no cervix change. I was out for another 4 days with monitoring. Everything had looked good including the cervix. At 31 weeks he decided to do another FFn test. I thought why!!? We just did one last week and it was negative! This time it was positive. BACK to the hospital I went. Every thing was calm with the uterus. At 32 weeks he wanted to do a normal cervix check and found we had a emergency. I was SO scared and every time I broke down in tears he became so calm and comforting. He is so reassuring everything will be OK and he definitely knows what he is doing. He turned one of the scariest moments of my life into one of the calmest times. He performed the emergency c section and did a incredible job. He talked me through the entire surgery and made sure I was OK and knew what was going on at all times.
Needless to say he is VERY protective of a pregnancy. But that is what makes him so great and successful. He admits himself he didn’t think we were in a good position starting at 25 weeks with a short cervix. But we made it to 32!!! Which was his goal! I appreciate his work so much and if it were not for him being so careful, we would have had major problems. I highly recommend him. He’s very serious but is so successful with his goals.
