San Diego County Credit Union

By far the worst credit union I have been a member of. I moved out of state and the process I have gone through to get a new ATM card or access and transfer any of the money I have in my SDCCU account has been ridiculous. Everything has to be done by mail because the information they have on the account to verify that I am who I say I am is wrong even though I personally updated it before I moved. If you need anything done on you account you either message them on their website and hope for a response or call and spend over 30min on hold waiting to talk to a representative. The first chance I get to visit San Diego I’m closing my account.

Good services for low to no cost!

Ugh. Signed up for a checking account when I started a new job. From the beginning I was given misleading information and different answers each time I talked to a different person. Signed up for a home mortgage and it was a ridiculous process. Alex was our first point of contact and he was not the best communicator by any stretch of the imagination. When asked to provide details he just just produced flyers and highlighted details. He took a long time to return phone calls when we had time sensitive documents He was unable to provide necessary details in a timely manner and we decided to work with his supervisor Steve. Steve was better but he too failed to be reachable when there was time sensitive materials needed. 99% of our phone calls went to voicemail. We were finally able to work directly with Mike, the loan officer and he was much better. Overall the loan process sucked with SDCCU. We did get the loan with good rates but it is hard to remember that it was worth it. We only had the loan for 6 months and we decided to refinance because SDDCU was just too much of a pain. When I went in to the North Park branch to close my checking account the teller had a very unprofessional sense of humor. He made a two minute transaction last almost 10 – 12 minutes. I am not interested in answering small talk chit chat questions about the weather, etc when I go in to do a bank transaction. Especially when i am trying to close an account. Their website is ridiculous as well. Glad we are done with them. Hope others have better luck then we did. Maybe another branch would be better. Glad to be at a better bank now. Phone support takes forever and they do not support banking transactions with Quicken for online banking.
Two starts for having so many ATM locations. But that is about it.

Not a bad credit union when living in SD. But when I moved to Northern CA, it’s just terrible to do business with them. Online chat support is terrible; person by the name of Alex just couldn’t help get a new PIN for debit card. Phone support seems to be mediocre. I wish local credit unions could provider better customer support.

Does not support Apple Pay and will not offer a ETA on when or if they expect to support it.

Auto Buying Service: At the age of 68, I had never gone to a car dealer in my life and was overwhelmed by the prospect. Susan Lohner was wonderful and patient with me during at least 6 lengthy phone calls. She gave me personal & professional advice on what I might expect from the huge variety of choices. When I finally decided what I wanted, she negotiated the best price among multiple dealers, saving me close to $ 3500 below the sticker price of the car. She obviously enjoys her work and was always cheerful & enthusiastic.

I am fairly new to SDCCU and luckily this is not my usual branch. During a work break I decided to take care of some errands & open up an IRA so I can switch my funds from another institution. I walk in, no one to be seen but two employees already helping customers. I fill in the sign in sheet and sit down in their waiting area. The receptionist guy walks right past me without a glance whatsoever. I see employees walking around (must be lunch I hope.) Again, not a glance from a one or «may I offer you some water while you wait.» Thirty minutes roll by & I left. Hopefully my next attempt will be much better. Vista branch branch has given me such good experiences so far.

I opened up an account online with SDCCU using my credit card, to make the required minimum deposits for both savings and checking, which totaled $ 26. A few days later I get a check from SDCCU for $ 26 with no explanation. I log on to my account and sure enough, the balance was $ 0. I sent a message asking what happened. The response was the account was closed because they could not verify my address.
They obviously didn’t want my business. If they did, I would have gotten a phone call or an email from them asking me to verify my address.

To sum it up:
1. I open an account online at SDCCU
2. SDCCU closes my account because they are unable to verify my address.
3. SDCCU returns my deposit by mailing a check to the address they could not verify.
I’m glad I found out early.

I see this bank has pretty bad reviews, why have I been with them for so long?! Gah! I have stayed with them because they keep promising me a low interest rate on a car loan… which they have never approved me for. I got a low interest rate car loan from someone else. This bank was OK for a long time, and then I don’t know what happened, but wow… the online banking system started paying things before they were scheduled, scheduling them and then immediately paying them, paying them a week in advance… IDK WTH is going on over there, but I am seeking a NEW place to bank. I hope they read the Unilocal reviews so they can figure out WTH is going on and fix it.

I’ve got an acronym for you: SBBBS (Same big bank BS)
I came here really hoping beyond hope that I would get what was advertised. A good community based non profit banking system which actually cares about the one thing they cater to, People.
I should stop being surprised at life.
Just to be forward and up front, I do not have good credit, and never really have been able to, not ever really having any money and all. I would much prefer not having to use a bank at all. But in today’s society that is impossible. So I must be forced to go through some sort of financial institution in order to cash checks and pay bills.
But I still had hopes,“please just let this one institution be free from judgement and severe scrutiny.“
Well, no such luck. They wanted me to pay more money per month for a checking account than any other big bank I’ve ever been to.
Now lets be fair, I understand you have a business to run, that’s fine, but please, when I walk in, make it clear that you are going to run a credit check, and that it will be the entire basis of them offering you whatever account they see fit. But all I got was the same age old bank pushing wisdom from the individual helping me.
«Well,» she said. «You should have read the fine print a little better».

The people working at the Pacific Beach branch (especially Stephanie) have gone above and beyond to help us grow our business and make us feel comfortable about making financial decisions.

I recently got an auto loan through San Diego County Credit Union, and it was so easy! I have never purchased a new car and really didn’t know the process, but I have heard credit unions are the best way to go. So I put my first car buying experience in their hands, and I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!
I didn’t have an appointment, but they saw me right away, and when the approval was taking too long they offered to call me with the information so I could get back to work. After talking with the loan guy, I got a call from their free car-​finding service. They actually find the car for you, negotiate the price, and can even have it delivered to the branch so you don’t have to step foot in a dealership!
Susan, their Auto Express Specialist, was amazing! She found the perfect car for me. No bargaining and feeling ripped off, just the car I want at a price I can deal with.
I walked in for the loan and two days later I had a new car, now that is great service!

Watch out for the fees… just like any bank they charge fees… voice recording is full of BS, they are a mini BANK…

Ive been a credit union member since the early 1990’s. Their loan rates are better than most and I always get great service. I had a few issues with credit cards being charged inappropriately and they fixed it without question. Join this credit union for all of your financial needs.
