A year ago, I was a victim of identity theft, the IRS notified me of it; but it had been going on for about 2 years. I have been battling creditors for the past year since I was notified. My accounts have been compromised and have taken a beating financially. I finally was able to secure a hardship check for a significant amount of money $ 2300 to help with the situation and to even out my accounts, an urgent matter, and the ongoing negative balances. I went to SDCCU in North Park and asked the teller to deposit the check; as well as a cashiers check for the urgent matter.
She went to her supervisor, Zeke, returned to me and told me that he would only release $ 1000 of the total amount of the check to be available now. I asked to see him. He came over to the teller window from his office. I explained the situation to Zeke and he took a moment to make a decision. He decided to honor my genuine plea to have the whole balance made available to me at that time.
I respected his reasoning for the original «hold» decision but I appreciated his decision to take the hold off of the $ 2300 check. It allowed my daughter and I to still be in our home still and also allowed me to be aided in this horrible identity theft process.
Zeke was well dressed, very reasonable, professional and on task. I don’t know about the other reviews about him but mine is 5 stars for the visit I had with him 3 weeks ago.

My husband and I have used this branch for three auto loans, a checking and savings, a credit card and credit card balance transfers. We have always worked with Rachel who has gone above and beyond to be helpful and efficient. Everyone at the branch has been very nice and polite. Most recently, Rachel helped us deal with a different company’s mix up with our credit card and helped us resolve it. Best of all, no hidden fees or anything have piled up with our checking and savings account like they did with certain other larger banks. Highly recommend SDCCU and this branch in particular.

Luma Hanna is her name. She was sweet, professional, honest & very helpful. I came in with my boyfriend to begin the process of buying a car. It was something very important because I had a not so dependable Honda that had seen its day — my poor car was tired. I really couldn’t drive it & it was causing a lot of stress for my son, boyfriend & myself. I thought going into SDCCU was going to be difficult but it wasn’t because my experience with Ms. Luma Hanna. Thank again for such great service, Luma Hanna!!!

2^nd update here (I suggest you read my first 2 SDCCU posts, to catch up with those that are already following along).
Same guy who was so unacceptable in one of my previous visits was at it again.
I took time out of my work day to call him to ask about the letters from him I’d rec’d that say he’s been trying to reach me.
He said he didn’t actually send those letters out (despite it being a letter from him, with his name at the bottom), but the SDCCU system automatically sends those untrue letters out to members. I told him to have SDCCU correct the system, so that members don’t waste time (as I was doing then) reading and replying to the letters (which also cost money and earth resources to generate/​send). He replied, «I will NOT communicate this to anyone here» and went on to tell me I could write a letter to SDCCU to request it, but that he’d do nothing to help. His demeanor was «disparaging».
WHAT?! THIS is the mindset of SDCCU employees? Not wanting to address an obvious problem with the way they operate, saying they won’t even try? Does this speak to the mindset of SDCCU? If so, that is a HUGE checkmark in the «DON’T move my banking to SDCCU column.»
To make matters worse, I was later informed that when I opened my account there recently, they ran a credit check on me, which they told me might negatively affect («Ding») my credit rating!!! They don’t tell you this in advance (which, I think would be illegal; and I know it’s unethical) — so, here I am warning you about it now, in case you don’t already know this.
Worth noting — I was in there last week, and spoke to someone who IS articulate and seems well-​informed. I’m still optimistic that I’ll get more of that in the future, and less of the worse :-)

WISH I HAD READ THESE REVIEWS FIRST. to borrow a funny phrase from a previous reviewer, HOLY CHRIST THIS IS THE MOST SCREWED UP BANK EVER!
total incompetence at the branch from the account rep LUMAS to the branch manager ZEKE, who cannot even set up a joint account correctly, requiring four additional visits and intervention from the 800 customer service to finalllly resolve in live time (the 800 supervisor was shocked — ZEKE made it personal).
no parking. never much of a line, but you will ALWAYS WAIT FOREVER. make an appt, you’ll still wait FOREVER. if you have multiple accounts (such as a joint), you CANNOT MANAGE THEM TOGETHER ONLINE. you cannot even log in to separate accounts in a separate browser window, it kicks you out. you cannot set up a recurring transfer from one account to another. the wait time on customer service is endless, and before you can even get to where you can ask for what you want, you have to listen to a big long speech about how great SDCCU is and how they want you to vote for them for best credit union. HAHAHA. can I reverse vote?!! I’ve already moved my finances out to other banks, I will keep these accounts open in case I need an auto loan, LOL!
even a discussion with the REGIONAL branch mgr resulted in zero resolution of anything, just more wasted time. they really back their employees no matter WHAT, at the customers expense. so it’s not just this branch!
RUN don’t walk to the nearest BANK!

I called customer service and asked if I could deposit a check with two names on it. The rep informed me that I could, I come to deposit and told that I can’t. Not honouring what I was told is very frustrating especially when I’ve been a customer to this bank for almost 15 years. This is the second issue I’ve had with this bank and I am considering closing my account and taking my money to another bank. You were willing to make an exception for me by having me go to further lengths by contacting 2^nd party on the check (who is family) and having their signature notarized. They don’t live here anymore. Thank you for your lack of help, when I come back from my trip I will be coming back to the same bank and closing my account.

HOLY CHRIST ON THE CROSS this is the worst bank I’ve ever used in my life. They screwed up the transfer of my wife’s 401k so many times and in so many ways she eventually just scrapped the idea of moving the funds to SDCCU (where we have our checking and savings accounts) in an attempt to keep everything under one roof. Everyone I’ve ever talked to in this place is absolutely clueless.
Their «fraud detection department» literally calls me every time I use my debit card, even if it’s somewhere I use the card regularly. I understand wanting to make sure nothing fraudulent is going on but it’s a huge pain in the ass to have to sit there pressing «1» to approve every transaction several times a week.
We just went there today for an international wire transfer to send money to a company I deal with in Taiwan and were there for so damn long, I wish I had packed a lunch. When the transaction finally went through, everything was spelled wrong and the recipient address listed was incorrect, which meant even more waiting while they tried again.
It frightens me that these buffoons are actually in charge of people’s money.

I went here to discuss an auto loan. Rachel was more than helpful and was very transparent about what options would work best for me. I also opened an account with Rachel and it was a breeze and she knows everything about SDCCU from top to bottom. I highly recommend speaking with Rachel!!!

I been here 2 times same Teller her name I believe is (Tiana or Tina) she is so rude, it looks like she is forced to be there. the original tellers used to be amazing, but this new round seems like they are forced to be there, I know Raul in front desk is an amazing guy, so helpful and listen and always tries to help people, but that Tiana not good and the branch manager should be the nicest guy in there, but not in this branch he looks like he is mad, not even a hi or a smile. Rachel is amazing too she always looking forward to help and always greeting costumers.

I over drew my account by 2 dollars, and they gave me a huge overdraft fee. Instead of giving me time until I got paid that Friday, they gave me a charge off on my credit report. I tried to explain the situation to them, but they were mostly very rude and said I was at fault. Worst credit union I’ve ever seen. How they keep getting voted best credit union is beyond me. I would bank elsewhere if I were you.

This review is for the Branch Manager. I went in to resolve an issue with stop payment on a check for which I had already spent about four hours on phone.
She was snotty, rude and appeared to have attitude and anger issues. She stated several times that she is the branch manager but her expertise and knowledge in resolving the issue at hands was poor at best. It appeared that she was implying that there is no one she reports to at the location and that she can treat the members as she wish. Her attitude reflected extremely poor on her employer which prides itself to be top credit union in the county.
In addition, she lacked etiquette and courtesy. She should have been working in a McDonald or Jack in the Box rather than a bank.

I’ve been banking with SDCCU for years. The first few years were great but their customer service has gone down the drain. A simple copy of a check from a few months back — they want to charge me for. I had my son sign up with them as well and while he didn’t sign up for the automatic overdraft protection, they still decided to let the transaction go through and charge him $ 27.00 for it. There’s a reason why I told them to block any transactions if he doesn’t have anymore money in the account.
I thought banking with a credit union would be different from the regular banks. Don’t buy into that as it is just as bad now. I’m extremely disappointed with San Diego County Credit Union.

Would not give me change for money from their own ATM, maybe that is how they get rid of counterfeit bills!

Fairly new member here and don’t know about other branches, but just trying to get a simple question answered by calling them isn’t working. I’ve waited on hold repeatedly for a long time just to be disconnected abruptly. When offered the option to leave my number for a callback, I’ve only gotten called back once out of two requests.

What a fantastic experience I gad setting up a new account today. Luna Hanna was so helpful and patient with me through the process. I needed some additional information and she gave me the guidance I needed to be a new happy member of the Credit Union.
I recommend SDCC for all your financial needs.

Ah, good ol’ San Diego County Credit Union. I really am glad they opened this location and expanded their business more since I found myself constantly having to go to Mission Valley to get things done for anything needed to be done in person. Customer service is professional and sometimes the clerks are friendly and interactive and other times, they just keep to the script. Either way, they are quick and courteous. Parking is pretty easy and convenient (garage located behind the building with street parking as well). However, I don’t feel there is much privacy in here. I can hear peoples conversations with tellers while standing in line and though it’s all harmless for the most part, it is a little odd that such an establishment would not keep privacy a top concern. I’d suggest pushing the waiting line out a bit further and having some kind of barricade between tellers to help solve this issue. Overall, SDCCU is a great Credit Union to be a part of. I’d suggest to anyone to bank with a CU and SDCCU is definitely a good one to do business with!

This is the only bank I’ve ever had without an overdraft forgiveness. As much as I’d love to use them due to convenience I understand they are a small business and need every dollar from their customers. Additionally the constant «do you need a loan» with every deposit and withdrawing shows just how much they care about people.
Highly do not recommend for low income individuals like myself. Stick to big banking, it’s better.

Wow, where do I begin?! I have been a member at SDCCU for a few years now and have been looking to purchase a new car recently. My coworker used SDCCU’s Auto Buying service and loved the experience. I went in to the North Park branch last week to get a little more info on the process and see if I could get pre-​approved.
Luma is the best, period. She has such incredible customer service and knowledge, I was immediately comfortable in her presence. Not only did Luma answer all of my questions that day, but helped me with the steps that followed and answered questions I didn’t even know I had yet. She made me and my needs her priority.
Today I purchased my brand new car from her! She was as excited as I was and made the entire process a breeze. I would recommend anyone to use the Auto Buying service, it was so easy and painless. I look forward to working with Luma and SDCCU in the years to come and I LOVE my new car!!!

Loved that they opened this location! It’s close, convenient and great customer service.
It has only been opened for about a month.
SDCCU has been so good to me, I am grateful for all their services and I line that they are really a bank for their people.
Until this day I haven’t found a bank that has lower fees than them for loans and even for overdraft fees.
I can go to any ATM inside the 7 Elevens and it’s free of charge! Wahoo! But they are also putting more ATMs of their own branch on more convenient places.
Within the last month I have been to this branch about 15 times, wether it’s to use the ATM or go inside the bank.
Parking is a bit confusing as it is located at the back of the building and you can only enter thru the front of the main building.
Don’t have to fill out deposit forms anymore! It is a huge time saver!
Justin is awesome! Thank you Justin for always being so friendly and happy but most of all fast ! As I tend to go there during a break at work or lunch time.
