San Diego Community College District

This is my first semester here at the Miramar campus. This campus is really nice compared to the other city and mesa campuses. Parking is a breeze, so far haven’t had a problem, there is construction going on but doesn’t seem to bother the flow of things once your parked and on the grounds.
The professors are involved with the student and there is plenty of help if needed. The campus is modern and easy to navigate, if you’re having trouble there are maps up on some of the tv ‘s and on bulletin boards.
So far it’s 4 stars because can’t drive around the campus without being blocked by construction. I will update my review as needed going fourth through this semester. Never know, I may just switch campuses if it goes well.

Here are some sure-​fire ways to feel old: go to a Justin Bieber concert, hang out in Pacific Beach at night or go back to school after a substantial hiatus.
With no desire to see Justin Bieber (could I name one of his songs if you held a gun to my head? Probably not.) and having put in more than enough hours into the PB nightlife, I have recently chosen option #3. It’s been 10 years since I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from UCSD and with no job and the economy kicking ass and taking names such that it is, I decided to return to school for my master’s. Being that my undergraduate degree is in Economics and wanting to pursue a mechanical engineering graduate degree, it turns out there are about 15 classes missing from my scholastic resume that need to be completed before I can begin the master’s program.
Enter San Diego Community College District. This is my second semester in and I am taking all of my classes at the Miramar campus. Unless it’s a huge inconvenience, I would recommend this campus above City and Mesa for one reason and one reason only: parking. I have never had a problem parking at Miramar; the same cannot be said about the other two campuses. Seriously, you will want to beat small children and puppies with a garden hose after dealing with the parking situation on those campuses. Also, the facilities at Miramar seem to be a little more up to date with new, additional buildings coming.
So far, my experience has been very positive. In fact, I would say that I’m actually getting a better education here than I did at UCSD. The primary reason for this is that the professors are much more involved with the students as they’re there to teach, as opposed to doing their own research. Another prominent factor is that there are 30 people to a classroom vs. 300. Oh, and while it doesn’t really contribute to one’s education, it should be noted that the student body is also much more attractive.
There are some negatives, of course. Let’s start with the ridiculous add/​drop/​crash song and dance that takes place during the first week of each semester. Without fail, each class is overbooked by ~10 students, yet these spots seem to magically open up once things are under way. Attendance is taken in each class (which I can only assume has something to do with their funding). The bookstore is grossly unprepared at the start of each semester because they underorder (real word? Should be…) books and then it takes 3 weeks for the next wave of stock to show up. Finally, myrmecophobics beware (!) there is a SERIOUS ant problem on this campus. In a typical class, I will see or have to remove from my body no less than a half-​dozen ants.
