I remember when this place was bomb; it was when Brother Eugene did the cooking! The fish sandwiches were on point with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and hot sauce. I had my heart set on having one of those delicious fish sandwiches, but to my disappointment my fish sandwich was nothing more than some overcooked fish slapped between to slices of bread with a little hot sauce sprinkled on it. They got my order wrong; I should have checked the bags before I left. I ordered a lot of food, the only thing that was good were the wings. The wait was very long, even though the order was called in 30 minutes in advance. I was given no hot sauce, one packet of ketchup, no napkins, no utensils, and my food was already cold by the time I got to my car. When I got home was when I noticed that the order was wrong, and I was missing the order of the boneless chicken. I live too far away to go back. I even gave them a tip. I really hate giving bad reviews, but hopefully this will help them improve their customer service. I was extremely disappointed because I know what they used to be!

I used to come to this place after I got a hair cut next door, or went to the Panaderia a few doors down. Best fried fish in the city without a doubt. Seasoned to perfection and fries just the same. If you don’t like licking your fingers or are apposed to good greasiness than this doesn’t apply to you at all. Also Try their bean pie. It’s a hidden local gem and they only make so many a day so get em quick. The place is extremely small and there really isn’t any seating inside. Its more of a catery or take-out place. Which is fine if you have a car. The place could really benefit if they expanded to an area where the people are light and bright and consider this a hip or cool thing to do or see it as something unfamiliar but good, like La jolla, or Coronado, or Torrey Pines… maybe even downtown in the right area. As-salamu alaykum.

I have visited a few times this year and the fish was just ok. The seasoning in the batter is pretty good. There isn’t any crunchy when you bite into the fish though. I have been getting the whiting and the red snapper and the quality of the fish is not that great. At times the fish is a bit rubbery and lacking of a nice flavor that makes me want to eat more.

Went to Salaam Fish House today and prepared myself for the rudeness I get every time I come into this establishment. I really wanted to have the Dinner fish plate. I already knew I was going to catch serious attitude because 1. I am not dark skinned and 2. I had on a shoulder-less summer dress on. This is run and owned by Muslim people. I won’t tell you about the man that attempted to sell me some weed right at the front door of the establishment or the woman that was asking for money standing right next to him because that is not their fault right? I came in and there was already a man in there waiting for his food talking on his cell phone. I stood at the front counter looking for a menu which I never found. I was standing there for more than 10 minutes and twice I am pretty sure that the man behind the counter saw me. Finally I shouted out«Excuse me, may I have a menu please?» The man apologized to me with a great big smile and pointed to the wall behind me and said he didn’t have any more but there it is. There is a huge something(I don’t know what it was) blocking half of the menu, so I had to look behind it to see the rest. I wasn’t sure if I was at a restaurant or a convention of different items to purchase from here. There was a display and a book for a barrage of New Body products for a 7 day cleanse. While waiting the man in the back was actually yelling at the TV for the CSPAN announcer to stop telling his lies. The more I looked around the more things I started noticing like the Tips jar with the word facing them rather than the customer. I promise I am not making any of this up. I couldn’t lie this good if I wanted to. There are DVDs available for purchase«Louis Farrakhan~ Hajj» and several Cd’s by various artists like Ahmad Muhammad. Look over to the right and you see the jail house bars for easier access to the people walking by or a walk up ordering window. There is also a sign saying that they accept EBT cards there and I love black people sign(Which I liked) The sign below it says a picture is worth 1000 words. Please make sure you look at my pictures! The sign says in hand writing«The world’s famous bean soup thank you Bro Amir» $ 2.50 You know I had to try this. Don’t forget the turning point newspapers on the counter but no menus. I also asked for a bean pie which now costs 8.00 but that is not what the sign said. I guess my skin was too light to get the sista discount. Let’s get to the food. The french fries were absolutely amazing very soft and wonderful like old school goodness. The soup was a bean soup with corn and carrots in it. I am a soup lover and I can say I was not very impressed at all. I had to put salt on it. The man behind the counter told me the macaroni and potato salad are both prepurchased they do not make it there. They only thing they make is the Mac and Cheese. The fish was amazing but I wish that I would have known there was bread in there so I could have made a half a sandwich because it was one slice of bread cut in half. The nice man had to run next door to the Taco Shop to get me a spoon for my soup. In the bag I was given lots of hot sauce but I did not get any ketchup. My advise for you if you come here is make your presence known immediately or you will be waiting. Stay inside until you get your food and than leave. I will be back for the fish and the fries. The bean pie was also pretty amazing as well. It was a slight sweet taste with a perfect gram cracker crust. If you have never eaten a bean pie this is a must for you! I hope you enjoyed this review. OWNER: Please clean your counters of all of your propaganda. Get that huge piece of what ever equipment that is out of your lobby waiting area. It might be a good idea to also have a ceiling fan installed instead of at your front counter. You might want to set up a specific area to sell your CD and DVD collections along with your new body stuff. Just an idea, take it or leave it.

Cool place. It feels good to walk into an establishment and the owner greets you as «Queen» and«sista». The atmosphere was welcoming and the portions were great. The waiting area was clean and organized. Please keep in mind that this place is mostly take out. There’s only chairs in the room to wait for your order then take home.

they absolutely hate NON-MUSLIMS!!! with a vengeance. Every time i go here they go out of their way to make my order completely WRONG. I politely ask for NOCHEESE and what do ya know, BAM cheese up the ass! Then they forgot a taco! I was too lazy to go back and get the taco i was already at home fuming over this non professionalism. The cook, AKA some high school kid was cooking my tacos and went outside and diddled with his ear for a good 3 minutes then went back to make my food!!! GROSS. simply GROSS homie!!! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, for goodness sake!!!

It’s not bad. We ordered a Red Snapper sandwich, and fish and chips(fries). I felt like the fish tasted alright, although it was a bit salty for my taste. The hot sauce made everything taste good though. The fries were really good though… it was the thick kind, and not the shoestring ones. Overall just OK. Oh yeah, boo for CASHONLY.

One of my favorite place to get a Fish(Red Snapper) sandwich & «African»(seasoned) fries. They give you so much fish on your sandwich you can literally take half the fish off and eat it on the side with your sandwich and fries. The price is good too, It’s like 7 bucks for a combo, you get what I mentioned above with a soda. They also serve chicken & waffles, chicken wings, chicken taco, and bean pie.
