I went for lunch with my girlfriend. We picked up a club wrap w/french fries, pulled pork bbq sandwich, and a frozen margarita. Club wrap: It was really filling and the restaurant gives a generous portion of turkey, bacon, lettuce and cheese. It came with a tasty chipotle mayo. It’s a good wrap if you do not feel like eating burger, chicken tenders, etc. French fries: They were crispy and not too salty. Also there was a lot of fries. Pulled bbq pork sandwich with slaw: It had the right amount of sweetness and sauce. Meat to bun ratio was good. It was not messy to eat. Cole slaw was also good and was not too vinegary. Margarita: Nothing special. Bought it with the souvenir cup. I felt like it needed more margarita mix or lime juice. Location: Great outdoor seating in front of the elephant area. Plenty of tables. Also it was a clean building. Price: I wish it was cheaper. But if you are going to an amusement park, it’s expected that they overcharge. Overall, good restaurant and I would come back to it.

Only because Jessica at the register did whatever she could to make my experience as happy as it could be. Thank you Jessica you upped m mood with your kindness. the lady who made my burger not the happiest, her reaction when I ordered was subpar, she gave a blah like do I really have to accommodate this guest with today’s special. Make me feel bad for ordering food in your establishment? Not good service. But like I said Jessica saved the day. That’s the way a guest should be treated!

For being a restaurant on actual zoo grounds, this place is awesome. The building is very clean, and I love that you can literally see the surfaces that the employees are cooking and preparing food on. I saw our whole meal being prepared from start to finish. We bought the little souvenir drinking cup for $ 10.99. It allows you to receive free refills all day(keep your receipt). If each regular drink costs like $ 4 or so, this is a wise thing to do if you get thirsty! We made sure to take advantage of it and refilled about 7 times. It was awesome on a super hot day. There are options here for meat eaters, vegans and vegetarians. We had the veggie burger, fries, and a salad. The salad was pretty impressive, actually. Lots of beans, cranberries, carrot– healthy things! I really loved it.

For zoo food it wasn’t bad. The cheese pizza was $ 10.99 and one fed all 3 of my kids(5,8,11) my husband and I split the nachos. I couldn’t imagine eating a whole meal and walking around the park!

LOVETHISPLACE! A little tricky 2 find, located in/near/by ElephantOdyssey… Oh, yeah — @ SanDiegoZoo!!! Best $ 13.50 margarita complete w/an extra shot in a cute zebra-print glass. $ 1 off if U bring it back 4 a refill. I call these snazzy glasses my RealHouseWivesOfTheSDZoo glasses. Lots of outdoor seating 2 picnic and chill. It is set up like a cafeteria as far as how U order and pay but the food is way better than some routine cafeteria. Burgers, fruit, nachos, floats, tri-tip sammies, wraps, salads, etcetera. Great place 2 camp and regroup midway thru your zoo day! Staff is always cheery and patient — lots of options displayed on multiple menu boards makes everyone hem&haw(including me) and change their minds frequently. There is no official line so U can just jump in wherever an employee is free and start ordering. Side note, the best restroom facilities @ the entire zoo R here w/a great family bathroom. Like I said, this is the ideal location 4 your«sitting time» as it is secluded, modern and multi-functional. Fun music pumped throughout and the plentiful amount of outdoor tables allow everyone 2 spread out and enjoy privacy in the middle of the buzzing, packed-with-people zoo… Get the margarita!!!

Got some ice cream cones from this place. They are huge and cost about four or five dollars. They were delicious but too big for my taste. I got the chocolate and vanilla mix. They did have some salads and other hot food items that did look delicious. I would totally eat here.

You wait a long time in line because your here at the zoo. You get food that taste like a frozen dinner had a baby with Burger King and added some extra salt. I think my grilled chicken sandwich tasted like an On Cor fabricated frozen chicken patty with an extra heavy sprinkling of salt and pepper. The onion rings tasted just like Burger King’s. They have a sign that their ketchup is homemade pear ketchup but it taste like budget ketchup mixed with water. They do serve other things like cold breaded chicken in wraps, beer, burgers and pizza. The napkins are in rolls like toilet paper to match the food.

Pretty great location by the elephants. We had the spicy chicken wrap(spinach tortilla, cheddar, buffalo tenders, lettuce, tomatoes, with ranch). And the chicken tenders plate, came with 3 tenders, onion rings AND fries. They do serve beer and frozen margaritas… but we didn’t try any. Everything was pretty delicious. The two items fed the 3 of us, and was just around $ 20. For the zoo, I’m not too sure why this place has so many bad reviews. I’d come back.

The three stars are for its location. It overlooks the elephant enclosure which is awesome!!! The food was basic as far as the burgers go. My wife got the burger and fries. It was pretty dry and had no sauce or thousand so we ended up making our own with the mayo and ketchup packets. So that’s where two stars are from The third star was thanks to the nachos! Topped with guacamole, sour cream, some sort of chili bean stuff and jalapeños oh and cheese which nacho cheese on that! Boy that was satisfying! Loved it! I’m sad to give the place 3 stars but the burger and fries were pretty sad :/

Standard cafeteria fare at crazy high prices. I got a burger with blue cheese and mushrooms called the Sonoma burger for around $ 12. It reminded me of something it would have gotten in the dining hall at my college for the $ 5AYCE buffet fee. It came with fries which were just ok as well. My daughter liked the fries though. Get your beer outside. They sold beer inside but the stand outside on the patio sold us better beer and a more generous pour for a cheaper price. And we got to keep the glass(aka plastic cup with San Diego Zoo on it)!

Went to the Zoo the day before TG feast and was already somewhat hungry for two hours prior but wanted to finish seeing the awesome animals while passing up on other eateries along the way. By the time we reached the Sabertooth Grill, I could have eaten a bear. Order the Swiss Mushroom burger but changed to the applewood bacon burger while the meat was being grilled and don’t remember why. Upgrade the fries to union rings for a dollar more. Here’s how good it was… ready? Wow!!! Yummmmmmmmmmm!!!*!*! One of the better grilled bacon burgers I ever had. Very flavorful especially from the crispy bacon. The rings were good too. Maybe I was soooo hungry that anything would have tasted so good but I don’t think so. You tell me…

I must share that I had a great lunch here. Zoo food indeed but the thing that stood out was the Amazing fries cooked to absolute perfection. And I’m a person who avoids greasy food. They were crispy and salted to perfection I forgot what else I had with them. But seeing the elephants throw dirt on themselves right in front of me was a bonus!

Its theme park food people. Don’t expect much here. $ 10 meals, $ 5 sodas, and its not burger king, you don’t always get what you want. If you want cheaper food, or tastier food, then bring your own, or leave the zoo. Parking is free, and you can get a hand stamp. so wha’ts stopping you from eating elsewhere? 4 stars because the service was decent, the staff was friendly, and they maintained the area to be very clean and comfortable. Its a nice area to rest, eat, and relax.

I wasn’t expecting much from a zoo restaurant, but I have to admit that this place left me pleasantly surprised. The prices weren’t obnoxious, the line moved quickly, and the food actually tasted pretty good. My husband and I were planning on getting a late lunch after we were done at the zoo, so we decided to just share a black bean burger to hold us over until then. It was served on sourdough bread with lettuce, tomato and cheese. It also came with a side of fries. I think it cost around $ 8. So the burger may not have been super fresh(there were a stack of them in an oven already cooked and just staying warm) but it wasn’t dried out at all. It had a nice little spice and plenty of flavor. I just wish that it came with a sauce. The fries weren’t great but they weren’t bad either. We finished them if that means anything. I’m pretty sure all the zoo restaurants serve the same menu… maybe a few changes here and there. But I really enjoyed this location since it was far away from the crowds at the entrance to the zoo and it had plenty of covered seating outside. The best part was the 32 ounce craft beers on tap for $ 10. While everything was a little overpriced for what it was, that’s to be expected from a zoo. The prices could have certainly been worse and the food could have tasted awful. So in all, I’d recommend making a stop if you don’t feel like dragging a lunch with you to the zoo.

Ewww… quite possibly the worst experience ever at the SD Zoo. Don’t get the Asian/Chicken stir fry thingy, it was terrible. The chicken and veggies were tasteless, the rice was mushy, and the sauce was straight from the bottle.

A-OK for zoo food. Where else can you eat a burger and look at a real elephant? Hubby and I shared a double patty burger and it was good enough for the both of us. I suggested subbing the french fries for the onion rings for the $ 1.

Normally I don’t eat in zoos and the like if I can help it, since food is obnoxiously overpriced. However, I have to say that the prices here really aren’t horrendous, for entrees. We’re talking around $ 9 for burgers, salads, other entrees. Sides were around $ 5 and they still get you with drinks for $ 3 – 4. I got the«incredible nachos» and found them, if not incredible, pretty tasty. Bean and turkey chili nacho cheese sauce, shredded cheese, sour cream, guacamole, jalapeños, yum. Mixed fruit salad we split was also fresh and tasty. Husband said his burger patty was really bad, however, like a Jimmy Dean sausage patty, and the fries were mediocre. I feel maybe people are being a bit harsh. Cafeteria where you pick up the food is clean and bright, servers may be young but were perfectly polite to us, and it looked like pre packed salads were very fresh even nearing the end of the day. I wouldn’t say it’s gourmet, but for food in a place like a zoo, it’s a doable option.

How often do you get to sit outside and eat lunch while watching elephants roam around? Unless you’re on safari the answer is never. The Sabertooth Grill at the San Diego Zoo offers you this kind of experience for a fraction of the price. Yes, the food isn’t that exciting and it’s not cheap, but for zoo/theme park food it’s pretty decent. I would steer clear from the chicken and rice plate(the rice was mushy), but the burgers and fries are acceptable, and the salads are good. If you want to save a few bucks, just bring your own lunch and buy a drink and you can still sit out on the patio and enjoy your meal and the view. In addition to the restaurant — a sort of gussied up cafeteria style place — there is a cart outside serving slushies, beer, and margaritas.

I don’t normally review restaurants in zoos/theme parks, etc. but I felt I had to on this one since it was so bad. My wife and I went to the San Diego Zoo for the Nighttime Zoo. Walked around, had a great time and decided to eat at one of the newer restaurants in the park over at the new Elephant Odyssey. This new restaurant prides itself on «featuring ingredients from local farms, its menu offers not only delicious food but also an environmentally sensitive way to support our community». Sounds good, right? Well, my wife ordered the roasted half chicken and I was going to get a burger, but after seeing a few prepared before me from a warmer, I decided on the chicken as well. It wasn’t cheap. 2 chicken dinners, an order of onion rings and a drink for $ 35? Yikes. Let me first start by saying the location alone is why I gave the 2 stars, rather than a single star. The outdoor seating overlooks the wide open elephant enclosure. To see a Southern California sunset over 2 elephants was just beautiful. That said, the food was horrible. Our half chicken was a butterflied chicken breast and was so dry, the outside layer was like jerky. It was seasoned nicely, but WAY to dry. The mashed potatoes were decent, and the sauteed veggies were slimy. Great atmosphere(which I guess is why were at the zoo in the first place), just not great food.
