River at Calvary

Just like I know food… I know church!
What I normally tell a person when they are looking for a church, is to find one that teaches the Bible correctly. That is the most important thing. All the other factors (size, location, worship style, age, etc) will depend on each individual and their preferences.
I have been in church and ministry for many many years, and I can’t speak highly enough about this one! God is doing a mighty work in the midst of our congregation. You’ve probably heard of church splits, right? But have you ever heard of a church merger?! My church (Calvary Baptist) along with The River have been worshiping together for about 6 months now, and within the next month will officially merge. Pastor Howard (Calvary) and Pastor Don (River) are doing what most pastors would not do, and give up their time at the pulpit because they believe that it is more profitable for the body.
They speak every other week. Howard is an INCREDIBLE preacher and speaks with more passion than any other pastor I have seen. And Don is a BRILLIANT teacher, who breaks down the Word in such wonderful ways… oh, and did I mention that he reads Greek! The body is weekly being encouraged and strengthened, and sent out.
Small groups are offered, discipleship is encouraged, outreach opportunities all the time, they have a Missions and Prayers School (
), missions opportunites… a lot happening in such a small church. Oh yeah, River at Calvary is a smaller church, approx 85 people attend weekly. It is a Southern Baptist church; and for me, as I came from a non-​denominational background; the best way I can describe it is to be non-​denom with a huge emphasis on missions (that’s what drew me here). As far as scripture goes, this church is right on.
I don’t know what you’re looking for, but I know I am incredibly blessed at this smaller church. I have attended and served at some of the larger churches in town… and tho they are awesome in their own ways, I just love the intimacy of a smaller congregation. A place where you will be known and loved, encouraged and equipped.
