RB Family & Cosmetic Dentistry

Beware of this place. They are extra friendly and act as if they care but they will scam you out of your money. I almost paid 1,000 to get a crown and 1 filling done. Thank god I decided to get a second opinion. When I did get the second opinion, I found out I didn’t need anything. No crown! No Filling! They completely lied! They told me I had plenty of tooth decay and a bunch of bull. Completely disappointing because I THOUGHT they were trustworthy but they are absolutely not!

My family and I have been going to Dr. Afzali’s office for years. They are professional beyond words but more importantly, they genuinely care about what they are doing. Dr. Afzali does everything with an eye for detail and she has the most gifted hands you could ask for. When doing the prepartion for my crown, she had me step outside so she could use the best and most natural light to pick the perfect color for my crown. I have nothing but the highest of praises for her and her entire staff. Thank you for your great work!

If you want to know what I think of Dr. Afzali and her staff all you really need to know is that I live in Portland and I fly to San Diego to see Dr. Afzali for all my dental work. That might seem a bit extreme, and perhaps it is, but hear me out before you decide. A couple of years ago when I was living in the Bay Area I had to have one of my front teeth removed and dental implant inserted in its place by a dentist in the Bay Area. The implant looked a little shorter and darker than my other teeth, and even made my gum above it look a bit darker than the adjacent gum. In short, it didn’t look natural. So I wasn’t completely satisfied with how my smile looked, but I thought that was the best that could be done. It wasn’t.
Last summer while I was in San Diego visiting my parents I went to Dr. Afzali for a routine cleaning. She examined my mouth and immediately asked me whether I was happy with the way my implant looked. When I said I wasn’t, she explained that she could make it look better and possibly even indistinguishable from my other teeth. She was right. My implant looks just like my other teeth, and my gum is pink again. In fact, my new implant looks so natural that I sometimes forget it’s an implant. I couldn’t be happier. One final point. Dr. Afazli’s entire staff is great. When I walk in they all make me feel like I’m the most important patient they have. And Julie is particularly great. Because I live in Portland my visits to Dr. Afzali’s office had to me perfectly timed with receipt of the various parts necessary for my procedures. Julie made sure that everything arrived when necessary, without fail, so that no flights or appointments had to be rescheduled.

I’ve been going to RB Family Dentistry on and off again for about 5 years now. What keeps bringing me back to RB Family Dentistry is their professionalism and exceptional service in combination with their reasonable prices.
Additionally I love all the staff at RB. They treat you like an old friend every time you come in. They also do their best to be gentle and explain to you all the treatment options available for you. My husband had several severe gum infections around specific teeth. He didn’t want to use the normal treatment because it would have cost $ 85.00/tooth (insurance didn’t cover it) they worked to provide him another option that insurance would cover.
Finally, they have recently moved into a new office just down the street from their old one. The office is very modern and all the equipment is brand new. I absolutely love being able to see the same, great dental staff in a great new office.
I highly recommend trying RB Family Dentistry. You won’t be disappointed.

Been going here since I was a kid. The doctor is so nice and so are all of her aides. Julie at the front desk will work with you. I recommended this dentist to anyone looking for a quality dentist!

I will be forever indebted to Dr. Afzali and Dr. Sanford. As a University of California Santa Barbara student, I was struck by the assailant’s car in the recent school shooting and chipped a large portion of my front tooth along with suffering several other injuries. When Dr. Afzali heard about my situation she offered to have my tooth fixed, free of charge. Dr. Sanford performed the procedure and now my tooth is better than ever. Having that problem dealt with quickly really took a lot off of my mind and I can’t thank them enough for their help when i needed it most

I have been a patient if Dr. Afzali’s for over 10 years and I highly recommend RB Family Dentistry to anyone seeking great and affordable dentistry in the Rancho Bernardo area. I recently chipped several of my front teeth and I could not be any happier with their service and friendliness throughout the restoration process. This practice gets a 5 of 5 stars in my book

Awsome enough, My review was removed. Granted it was negative, but it was not at all threatening or hateful. I will restate myself in less words.
I went to this dentist for a regular cleaning, found through my dental network.
She, Mary Afzali, said I had 19 cavities, yes 19 cavities, as well as cracked teeth. She also told me, dentists no longer use metalic fillings only white composite. That was bull too. I cried and she said I can go get a second opinion elsewhere.
So I did.
The next day, I went to another denist, uknowingly who happened to know her personally, to get a second opinion. 2^nd opinion dentist said, I had a HALF cavity which didnt even need filling yet. (I may have had up to 2 fillings, after visiting Afzali’s office.) 2^nd dentist told me maybe it’s because of the economy.
I called R.B. Family & Cosmetic Dentistry to let them know of the 2^nd opinion findings.
They proceded to tell me, i owe them money because they were unable to bill my insurance. (the 2^nd opinion dentist was able to bill my insurance first, rejecting RB’s claim) I refused to pay it, saying that I refuse to pay for services that I felt were unethical. R.B. Family & Cosmetic Dentistry tried to send me to collections. I told them if they didnt remove the charges due to customer unsatisfaction, I would report them to the BBB. They called me back and said they’d reverse the charge and hung up on me, literally.
This dentist claims to offer you services that you need, but can choose not to do. I didnt need 19 cavities filled and I had no cracked teeth.
This is my review of the dental office and it’s owner/​main dentist, Mary Afzali.

Mary Afzali from R.B. Family & Cosmetic Dentistry called disrupting me at WORK today, 9÷10÷2014, stating some of my information in my review is not accurate and she’d like to have me change my review before escalating the matter to a lawyer for libel. Therefore, I am removing anything that I may be mistaken on, out of courtesy to R.B. Family & Cosmetic Dentistry.
She also told me that she spoke with my current dentist (whom I did not name in this review, mind you), and my current dentist told Afzali (against patient privacy) he gave me 2 fillings. That may be true, I can’t remember as it was several years ago. I believe I was told that I had a half cavitiy and another forming. I could choose to do the fililngs or wait. I believe I chose to take care of them because I felt comfortable with that diagnosis and the dentist. Regardless, 2 does not equal 19. I do not have to post my private dental record information on the internet either. Also, Afzali stated that when she spoke to my current dentist, my dentist denied having ever said she might be pushing services due to the economical hardship. That was what I was told, I would not make this up. I can see why they might deny it, what an akward situation for my current dentist being called out like that.
It bothers me that she investigated who my 2^nd opinion dentist was and discussed my private dental records with them. She also stated that she is going to request my dental records, of which I did not give her permission to do so. I am not currently in her care.
So, you will find, I have updated my review, but my rating has not changed. Hopefully you feel this is more fair. My intent of this review is strictly to voice my personal experience. Others may have had a good experience. Not me.

I recently went to my regular dentist for my bi-​annual check up. I still didnt have any cavities or cracks in my teeth. Just thought I’d throw that in there!

I moved to La Jolla, so I had to change dentists, but Dr. Afzali is great. She helped me with my grinding problem and had a great mouthpiece made for me. She’s very friendly and so is her front office staff. Julie (I think that’s her name I might be mistaken my memory is bad lately) was always very friendly when checking my daughter and I in.
