R.A. Snyder Properties

When I first moved to this apartment, I was happy with the choice. The apartment was decent even though it hadn’t been upgraded for quite some time but the rent was cheap and the onsite manager was friendly and attentive.
In the past 6 months, I’ve had a few terrible experiences with the Property Management company and am ready to move out. I’ve lived in this apartment for 6 years and always pay my rent on time. There used to be an option to pay rent online, but that hasn’t worked for at least 2 years. There is not an onsite Property Manager, so you are encouraged to pay rent through MoneyGram.
After a couple of bad experiences with MoneyGram, I recently decided to use online bill pay through my bank to pay rent. I scheduled the check to arrive no later than the 1^st. On the 5^th, I get a courtesy call from the property manager that they haven’t received my rent. I’m irritated but it’s obviously not their fault. I tell the property manager that I will call my bank and cancel the check and go pay the rent through MoneyGram that day. I am told not to do that and to just wait for the check to arrive. The next day, I log into the Resident Portal and see they’ve added a $ 50 late fee. I contact the Property Manager again and express how irritated I am that I now have to pay a late fee when I could have just paid the rent the day prior. The response is «It’s the tenant’s responsibility to pay the rent on time.» I agree with that, however when I attempted to pay the rent on time, I was told to wait. But still, this is somehow my fault. I tell them multiple times, I would like to cancel the check and just pay the rent but they keep telling me not to do that. On the 8^th, I get the 3-​day Notice to pay rent or move. Finally, I call and tell them I am no longer waiting and I call the bank to cancel the check. I pay the rent and late fee through MoneyGram that day.
Skip to the next month. I am back to paying rent through MoneyGram because I don’t trust the bill pay service. I log in to the Resident Portal on ¹⁄₃₁ and it shows my balance due for ²⁄₁. I go to MoneyGram and pay the rent on ¹⁄₃₁. On 2/​2, the balance is still showing on the Resident Portal. I reach out to the Property Manager to confirm they received the payment and I am told that I am not supposed to pay rent early and that there is a «Certified Funds only» hold on my account until I send them a letter from my bank stating the bank was at fault for the check not arriving on time for the prior month. None of this was told to me when I was going through all of the trouble the month before. I am also told that MoneyGram sent the payment as an «E-​Money Order» and that is somehow a problem. I look at all of my past payments through MoneyGram and they all show as «E-​Money Order». I ask what the «Certified Funds only» hold on my account means. It means that I have to pay rent with a Money Order or a Cashier’s check. Ok, so MoneyGram sent the payment as a money order… why isn’t it posting? They aren’t sure. It’s probably because I paid the rent early (1 day) and because there is a hold on my account. So what am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to get my money back from MoneyGram that has already been sent to the Property Management company? I’m told to «just wait» and let’s see what happens. No thanks. I don’t trust this company at all. They tell you to just wait but then they add on late fees and put restrictions on your account. They refuse to take any responsibility for their actions or failures. It is starting to feel like they are purposely creating situations where they make it impossible to pay the rent on time so they can charge you a late fee. I don’t think I’ve ever met a landlord or Property Management company that treats you so poorly.
Lastly, the apartment is outdated (which was fine when I was paying lower rent). When I added my fiancé to the lease, they raised the rent 22% to be consistent with what they were charging for new tenants. I’m fine with paying the going rate for an apartment, but there are a couple of issues I have with how they handled it. First, they notified me of the increase less than 1 week before it was due. It would have been nice to have 30 days to prepare for such a significant increase. Second, the apartment hasn’t been updated in probably 10 years. I asked if they would be open to updating any of these things since they were going to be charging me the same rent as new tenants. I realize it was a stupid question and of course they have not updated anything.

Not sure why it says R A R A Snyder Property Management on Unilocal.It’s really called R A SNYDER PROPERTY MANAGEMENT. But I wouldn’t «rah-​rah» about anything when it comes to this management company.
This is by far the worst management company I’ve ever dealt with in my entire life. Rent an apartment from anyone else but them. They are not good landlords, and they clearly do not have your best interests in mind.
The «property managers» they hire, and the ones we dealt with while living on one of their properties, are suspect of many things; anything from negligence to criminal activity!
We lived in an apartment for two years that RA Snyder managed. It’s called FRESNO TERRACE APARTMENT HOMES, located in Mission Valley, California.
The Buildings:
There are 4 buildings, each one housing 8 apartments. There are NO AMENITIES, except 1 washer/​1 dryer in each building. The price to wash and dry is higher than normal. The tiny room they’re housed in is filthy and the machines are often broken. Since the property is located on a VERY steep hill, it’s difficult to use another building’s facilities because of the challenges of dragging your wash back and forth. There is no dishwasher in your unit. There are no patios, and you are not allowed to have just a couple chairs and a small table outside your door. Of course, they don’t tell you this until after you’ve signed your lease.
The rent for a 2 bedroom, 1 bath was $ 1,300 per month in 2012, but it has recently increased for new tenants. In addition to your base rent you must pay for water/​sewer/​trash to AUM. This was something newly added in the last 5 months of our lease. Then you pay a separate bill for electric from SDG&E, and everything in your apartment is electric. Each building has 4 parking spaces in the back, and if you want one, you may not get one directly behind your own building. You may have to walk up the steep hill. For the parking spaces in the back, you pay upwards ~$ 30/​month. I have a handicap placard, so I was able to bypass paying for parking.
The Danger:
My Daughter’s pink mo-​ped was stolen right from our front porch less than a month after we moved in. A neighbor saw a man dragging her locked mo-​ped from our apartment and proceed to load it into a pick-​up truck, yet didn’t find it strange. When I asked residents if they saw anything, the resident property manager pointed out the drag marks, yet no one found this suspicious. Remarkable, huh? This is why you carry insurance.

Just before we moved from this hell hole, my vehicle was broken into. My prescription sunglasses (only the glasses) were stolen. I’ve got an idea who did it, but whatever, I needed a prescription change anyway and got better ones. I hope you are enjoying my pink sunglasses, you jerk! By the way, those were cheap ones from J C Penny’s, so you can congratulate yourself on getting… nothing! Haha!
The buildings are over 100 years old and have asbestos. They should be leveled. The entire time we lived there, we felt sick from this (and other nefarious things, such as burning plastic smells).
There is NO SECURITY and stranger/​danger in this neighborhood. We had to call SDPD for noise complaints, and several times, had to call 911 for real danger at our door. One time, ‘someone’ we didn’t know had a key, which was, to say the least, unsettling to sleep that night until the locks got changed. Even their changing the locks was done Mickey-​Mouse: We ended up needing 2 keys to enter, and even though they promised to match both the lock and deadbolt, they never did. We routinely had strangers trying to rattle the knobs, attempt to get in, and also had people screaming in our open windows and knocking on our windows when they were closed. Reports to management went neglected. Ridiculous, immaturity.
When we first moved into this complex, it seemed to be a quiet, nice neighborhood. Looks are deceiving. Times have changed as many drug dealers and criminal-​types have moved in. The smells alone around these buildings are suspect.
This is a depressing place. If you don’t engage in the types of activities the managers do, because you are a law-​abiding citizen, you just might get a retaliatory 60-​Day Notice to Terminate. That’s okay, we were planning to move from this ghetto anyway.
On a Side Note:
We have moved into a luxury apartment for slightly more and we love it! It’s brand new, so it still has that new-​house and new paint smell. It’s Modern design has wood flooring throughout. Amenities include 2 large bedrooms, both with walk-​in closets, 2 baths with double sinks and granite, one bath has an enormous walk-​in shower, and full size in-​apartment washer and dryer. The kitchen is spacious, with granite, stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, high-​end finishes and a 4-​seat breakfast bar. We also have our own garage and balcony. The grounds surrounding us include additional amenities. The complex has top-​notch security.
All this, and we are now living in a true paradise.

RA Snyder Properties, INC. Property Management Company is wrought with incompetence and dysfunction.
RA Snyder charges you for parking spaces you sometimes cannot get into. You are also charged for a secure building which is not secure.
R A Snyder properties are not maintained adequately on a regular basis.
They have a dead review link in their emails which leads nowhere. Honestly though, this is more about dysfunction and incompetence than them not wanting you to leave a review.
What RA Snyder is good at is cashing your checks, raising your rent on a regular basis and putting forth a 32 page lease that absolves them of all responsibility for anything except where they are forced to be accountable by law. You are required to sign this lease or your rent is raised even more!
If you rent from RA Snyder you will be charged for having a pet every month PLUS a pet deposit. This will be an additional $ 420 per year per pet!
You will also be required to get Renter’s Insurance so they will be protected if some damage is caused to their property by you or one of your guests. This makes their insurance policy cheaper for them. If you provide housing for someone, isn’t insurance your responsibility? Isn’t that a risk you take? Isn’t that part of the cost of doing business?
The property I lived in was in North park and had a filthy alley behind it with a disgusting dumpster. The building itself had roaches, fleas, flies and mosquitoes. RA Snyder has a pest control company come once a month to spray the exterior of the building. That is their answer when you complain about the bugs. RA Snyder did nothing to keep the dumpster area hygienic or reduce the number of insects we had to live with every day. It was worse for those of us living on the first floor.
My unit had two water leaks in exactly the same spot in the 18 months I lived there. This means the problem wasn’t fixed properly the first time. Both the kitchen and bathroom sink fawcett handles came off in my hand one day when I went to turn them. In fact, all of the cosmetic improvements RA Snyder make are with the cheapest materials available in their category. My kitchen floor was supposed to be a durable wood grain vinyl that was already buckling up less than one year after it was installed.
The laundry rooms were always filthy. It would take a $ 10 an hour cleaner less than 10 minutes a month to keep both of these small single unit rooms clean. I had to call more than once to ask the management company to empty the trash cans.
RA Snyder waited until the last minute (maximum 21 days by law) to return my security deposit and ended up trying to steal more than half of it. Again, I do not think they knowingly were trying to steal from me. This is another example of incompetence and dysfunction. I had to follow up four time asking them to review and revise their original calculations. Even telling them I had before and after pictures made no difference.
North park is a mixed bag with some good stuff to offer. Restaurants, entertainment, breweries, close to Balboa Park, etc… RA Snyder definitely isn’t one of them. This property management company manages at least 11 properties in the area. Some of the problem is greed and some is that they just hire losers. Especially at the main office.
Be wary of these people. Very corporate … all about maximizing profits for their investors. People don’t matter to them … not even their own! I was told that their corporate office doesn’t even return their telephone calls! I spoke with a very nice lady who was the regional manager who finally got everything straightened out after four attempts. After all of this, RA Snyder still found a way to steal $ 125 from me. Just unbelievable!
RA Snyder Properties, INC … my score 0. Keep looking, you can do better!

We live on one of their properties out in El Cajon and our manager, Trudy Cline, is THE best! If something needs to be repaired she has someone right on it. She is professional yet friendly and is honestly the best property manager we have ever dealt with.

What a bunch of con artists. You apply for a unit that’s «available» on their website just to find out two hours later that the tenant decided not to move anymore, but not to worry they have another unit but it’s $ 200 more. So you find another unit on the website that says $ 1165, you call the onsite manager and he says its now $ 1195, you call R.A. Snyder about the price difference and they say «its a computer glitch». Well I got tired of glitches and false advertisement, so I filed a complaint with HUD.

they asked me to take down my review. but of course i said NO. because everyone deserves to know the truth about this company. they are beyond unorganized and i’ve never seen such unprofessionalism. the onsite manager did NOTHING on a day to day basis. he had a day job, and then he moved out and rented his unit out on air b-​n-​b. but when he was there he didn’t pay attention to anything. there was a car parked out front in the same spot for the better part of a year and he wasn’t around enough to notice. the gates were always broken, and the gate on the alley side went unlocked for months. hello, safety issue! stuff had to be leaking or falling down for them to fix it and even then it was in the cheapest, fastest, most mcguyver way possible. anyway, i’m glad i’m out, i’m glad i finally got the rest of my deposit back finally. and i will never rent from ra snyder ever again. do yourself a favor, steer clear.

I have had nothing but a great experience with RA Snyder. I live at one of their properties in San Diego and our onsite manager Justin is awesome. He quickly responds to all emails about rent or work orders I’ve put in. He has been out within 48-​hours of each work order to inspect it and then promptly arranged a vendor to come out. The community is quiet and I’ve had no problems with neighbors. I’m still living there so I don’t know and how much they charge for turning the apartment. The property is kept up very well too! I would highly recommend them to any friends!

Trying to rent an apartment at Canyon Breeze Apartments which is a Senior Citizen complex. Have to go thru a long drawn out on line application and then wait for the on site manager to call. Oh she called, left her name and I called her back three times and she never had the customer skills to return my calls. Even if the apartment had been rented out it would have been nice to have received a phone call letting me know.
It is their loss not mine, sounds like I dodged a bullet by not renting from this group.

Unprofessional, unethical, and unkind. Very slow to respond to maintenance requests. Not sure how they stay in business.

We have only been here for a few days and we couldn’t be happier! Our property manager, Jose, has helped a lot with our transition, offering road cones for our moving truck and even having a ceiling fan installed for us. Caesar, the maintenance man is awesome; he even loves our dog! And our friendly neighbors are just the icing on the cake.

I recently applied to a property in San Diego that is managed by the R.A. Snyder group and paid $ 30 for the credit check. I was verbally told the very next day by the person who manages the actual property that my application was denied due to credit with no further explanation. Per the FCRA, R.A. Snyder is required to provide me with an Adverse Action Notice, not a verbal notification, detailing the name, address and telephone number of the CRA that supplied the consumer report, including a toll-​free telephone number for CRAs that maintain files nationwide; a statement that the CRA that supplied the report did not make the decision to take the adverse action and cannot give the specific reasons for it; and a notice of the individual’s right to dispute the accuracy or completeness of any information the CRA furnished, and the consumer’s right to a free report from the CRA upon request within 60 days.

We have rented from RA Snyder for several years. Nothing but good things to say about them. Always easy to deal with and quick to repair anything broken. I would definitely recommend renting from them.

RA Snyder is yet another San Diego slum lord. While living in an apartment I rented from RA Snyder, I informed them about a mold/​mildew smell under the bathroom sink and while they acted concerned, as they should, no one ever came to rectify the situation. I moved out 40 days ago and still have no sign of my security deposit and I have contacted them to let them know they are over stepping their bounds as California Civil Code states that security deposits are to be returned within 21 days after the tenant vacates said property. They have not given me a date as to when they intend to send it but rather tried to placate me with emails with smiley faces. They are supremely unprofessional and I suggest you look elsewhere to rent.

This is the worst Property management company I have ever dealt with. They took me to court even though I tried to pay 2 months rent after my roommate left. The on-​site manager for my property, Mr. Kenny, showed up to court and told several bold face lies after taking an oath. This guy Kenny refuses to do his job. I had several issues in my apartment regarding safety hazards and other things that needed attention right away. I sent several emails regarding the repairs and I was ignored. Even when I saw Mr. Kenny with his handyman (who I doubt is properly certified to do repairs) on the property and reiterated the issues that needed to be addressed in my apartment, they still didn’t show up to fix them. There has been several hazards on the property for months which Kenny refuses to address which includes unattended propane tanks, other tenants personal property, and concrete splitting apart. Also they refuse to maintain the property. There are palm trees that haven’t been trimmed in years. I watched as I seen rats, possum and other disease carrying animals climb in and out of the trees.
When I moved in I noticed several flaws in the apartment that where never repaired properly. They half ass everything an try to blame the tenants for the problems and charge them for it.
Ever since day 1, Kenny has tried to overcharge for everything. When I moved in halfway through the month, he forced me to pay a full months rent. Then pro– rated me the next month. When the next month came, I was overcharged 5 days that I didn’t stay in the apartment. He would not accept the proper rent amount until I paid the extra I did not owe. This guy is just a hustler and overcharges tenants so he can pocket the extra $$$. When possible tenants come to view the apartment, he lies about everything and flirts with the woman. All in all this guy is a liar and has no morals in his life. He will cheat you and lie till he’s blue in the face.
As my day approached to vacate the premises, I spoke to Kenny and explained that I need to be out by 6am. I told him I would knock on his door at 6am so he can do a walkthrough and sign a paper stating that I had vacated the premises so I would not be charged anymore. His response was if you knock on my door at 6am I will call the cops. In his words «I would not sign a fucking paper anyways.» This coming from a guy that’s suppose to represent RA Snyder???
After reading this review, hopefully you will decide to rent somewhere else. This company does not care about its tenants or its properties. Most of their employees are worthless and have no care about customer satisfaction. Its almost 11am and I have called their office several times this morning but its CLOSED. Their Main Office is closed on a Wednesday at 11 am. Wow these people are something else.

They took my $ for the credit check. I passed and was approved. Lease sent online. I had questions about several things (which is normal when you are panning out $ and signing a lease). They’re computer generated info was inconsistent with what I was being told by the manager. I asked that these amounts be clarified so I could go on with the process… signing the lease, etc. Still no answer… then when I called to find out if apt had been leased I was told they gave it to someone who lives in the bldg.,. When I asked how that could happen I was told that I had «asked too many questions». Unbelieveable! These people are a bunch of «shady schiesters». I should have reviewed the Unilocal reviews before even bothering with them. Unprofessional business tactics. Just as another «almost tenant» wrote…“it was a blessing in disguise that I did not get the apartment”. Schmucks!

This firm took over an apartment building near my house, and they have turned a quiet complex into a seemingly non-​stop dance party at top volume with trash strewn about and crazy people wandering into my yard. I’ve called them, and I know others have called them too (including the neighborhood pub during the day based on non-​stop screaming coming from the place) but after management has paid lip service, nothing changes. So, if you’re looking for somewhere loud and dirty to live, I’d say move into an alley behind a nightclub because at least that would be free.

I Only hope that people read these reviews BEFORE going through the shady application process of renting from these snakes!
They accepted my application fee only to deny me at the last minute purely related to pure DISCRIMINATION and will not refund my $ 60.
They finally agreed to refund me but decided to take it out of the previous tenants security deposit because she showed me the place! It’s not her fault! I don’t want her money! I want the refund from the company that I paid but later rejected me based purely on discrimination!
I later found out that a friend of mine who has been trying to get out of his lease due to horrible living conditions but cannot get out is an RA Snyder property. I guess it was a blessing in disguise!
BE WARNED!

I moved into an RA Snyder– run complex in early February. The last six months have been absolute HELL. This is the first time I have lived on my own and I was so happy to get this cute upgraded apartment in a small complex.
Week One: I noticed my neighbors in one of the units were a bit sketchy and by sketchy I mean they were noticeably on drugs. There were people constantly in and out of their house at all hours of the day/​night. Day six, I heard arguing and someone broke their window. Me, being a young female living all alone, decided it best to call the cops as I had no idea what the situation was. As I stood in my apartment waiting for the cops, I heard a female start screaming that someone was attacking her. I made a second call to the cops. I also contacted the property manager the following day. Week Three (or Four): Screaming and yelling from the same unit. One of the guys went on a rampage breaking things around the complex and throwing furniture out of his window. Cops called by me and a second neighbor. At this point I learned three tenants had moved or were in the process of moving out because of these people. At one point only myself these «crazies» and one other couple, in a 7 unit complex, were living there.
Months Three up until now I have had non stop issues with tenants. The guys above me are avid partiers and the biggest sorry excuses for human beings. They have now begun to pound on their floor (my ceiling) on purpose at 2AM every night. because the property manager «reminded» them to be good. These guys also had the cops called on them the FIRST week they were there (not by me). Another tenant lets his dog urinate off his balcony onto the ground below and another tenant had boyfriend issues. All of which the property management company is aware of, yet doesnt seem to do anything about.
Month 5 ½ I had had it. I requested to be let out of my lease and was told that was not going to happen. They had the audacity to tell me to take it into my own hands. I have a LONG list of dates/​times/​incidents that have happened since I moved in plus three police reports, one of which people were arrested. I pay over $ 1000/​month and was appalled at the things I have endured while living here. What I have learned is that this property management company just doesn’t care. As long as they get their money each month, they dont give a rip what goes on or who they are renting to.
Fortunately, I was able to talk directly to the building’s owner and give him back up of everything and he immediately let me out of my lease. Who knows who will see this or take heed to this warning, but I feel I must put it out there. Do not rent from these people. If this complex had it’s own page on here, I would copy and paste this to warn people to never rent at this particular complex. I have lived in absolute misery for six months and nothing was done about any of my complaints. None of these were normal apartment living situations. Not in the very least. I wish I could give this a negative 5 stars.

Excellent property to have manage a residence. They are prompt and courteous. Adreena nicknamed Adreenakins is spot on. I have prospered under them after suffering the humiliating disrespect showered on me by the previous slumlord owner who used to manage the property.

My wife and I went out of the country on vacation and I erred and did not send in the rent before we left. We ended up getting back on the 10^th of the month and I recognized my failure and sent my payment through automatic bank check as I always do. My fault, should have been more careful but when I realized my error, I addressed it immediately.
Three days later we got a notice in the mail and on our door. It was a «notice to quit» which is the start of the eviction process. Considering this has not happened before I was quite shocked. No phone call, no e mail, no curtesy. So their approach to resolving an issue is to skip all the niceties and go straight for the lawyers?
Poor poor poor business model. I will avoid this guys in the future and you may want to consider avoiding them as well.

I’ve lived in 2 different properties that were managed by RA Snyder. They were always good to me. You can pay your rent online. There is usually an onsite property manager. Fast response for repair service. Whenever I am looking for a place, I always check their website first.
