Quality Auto & Truck Repair

This business only had one job to do for me: tow my car and keep it at their shop for the weekend, until it was transferred to Carrillo & Sons Collision Center.
At first it was good– quick to be towed and the man who picked it up was nice, accommodating, and on-​time. However, now that it’s Monday and my car is in the process of being towed to the actual auto shop, «Quality» Auto realizes they seem to have lost my key. I mean, really? You only had one job. My insurance co. will surely be billing them the $ 300 to replace the car key.
Maybe keep a better track of these ‘slightly important’ things and organize yourselves a bit more. If I can’t trust you with my car key, I don’t understand how anyone will willingly trust you with their car.

Weird, rude, untrustworthy dudes, tried to make my car problem out to be more serious than it was. From the questionable man who towed my car and assured me this was the best shop, to the suspicious/​resentful character at their front desk, something just didn’t feel right. Tried to tag on an extra $ 200 in unnecessary repairs when another shop did the deed for half the price. Thanks but no thanks.

My college daughters Range Rover would not start on a Sunday so it was towed to this location. After $ 2,500 in repair work I was still told the engine needed to be replaced and that the car was essentially worthless. The car was released to my daughter to drive to Palm Springs where it ran terrible. She was eventually able to get it back up to Salinas where I had it checked with my regular mechanic. $ 1,000 worth of additional repair to the fuel injection system has it running like its in perfect shape. The owner of the establishment whose name I do not recall at this time, was in contact with me and assured me that the engine could not be repaired. I’m not sure of this company’s ability to work on imported cars but their knowledge of the Range Rover appears to have been very poor. I even spoke with the owner and he was willing to set the car up to be sold at auction for a few hundred dollars. Needless to say, I will not be bringing this vehicle back to this location nor will I be bringing any other vehicles. The car now runs perfect.

Great service! Mark was very helpful and honest. They do a free diagnostic, I was able to save money which is always a good thing. Well, the problem was that my Nissan its key was not communicating basically I was unable to start the car, there was something wrong with the key fob. Neways, great service and I would recommend anyone to take their car there.

Take your car to see Ron. He does a good job and breaks down your issues and even shows you dealer comparison rates. Got a new starter for my 328, in and out in the same day. Also gave me a ride.
I would take it back again.

Wow these guys are real life savers. Being a young female can be daunting to go into a car repair shop. I have been ripped off before and have been very uneasy since. Long story short — they took care of me, gave me a deal and knew me by name when I showed back up. Very friendly and clean shop.
Now for the long story, my 06′ dodge stratus started acting funny, the speedometer was going up to 20mph while stopped. Another car repair shop told me it was the transmission and it basically totaled my car when it came to cost of repair (3 grand!)
I drove 4 miles away from the shop and my car completely broke down on me.
Had it towed to Quality Auto and Truck because of my AMAZING tow truck driver, Ross, with Quality Towing, told me RIGHT upon picking me and my car up he was sure it was my alternator and nothing to do with my transmission. I was weary for him to tow me to another shop but agreed.
Let me remind you I am a young female and car trouble in the middle of a hot summer day is not going to be a picnic. I was visibly upset. They were very very sweet to me! Checked my car out FOR FREE — it took less than 30 min and they said for sure it was the alternator. Said the car would be fixed the next day, gave me a sweet deal ($ 250 for the alternator $ 100 for the work) with a warranty. I picked it up less than 24 hrs later.
I will forever use this auto shop while I live in San Diego. Thank you guys!

I stopped by Quality Auto for the first time to get my air filter replaced yesterday. What great service! I was in and out in less than 15 minutes, and everyone was very friendly. There is really comfy lounge area with leather couches, free wifi, and free coffee/​water. I almost wish it took more time so I could have stayed in the lounge longer!

Total Scammers! Tried to get us to replace parts that checked out perfectly fine!
My experience starts EXACTLY like several other reviewers here. My roommate’s car wouldn’t start one morning when trying to leave for work so he called a tow truck who assured him it was his battery and would have him up and running in 30 minutes. I had already left for work that day so I couldn’t help him. When the tow truck driver arrived, he said it was more than just a battery and convinced my roommate to allow him to tow it to Quality Auto repair stating they wouldn’t charge him the usual $ 80 diagnostic fee and the repairs would be cheaper than any other place. Turns out, the tow truck driver is an employee of the shop. My roommate calls me to pick him up so I drove there on my lunch break. When I got there, he shows me this little scrap of paper that Mark gave him that said «battery and alternator $ 339 plus labor and tax.» No date, mileage, make and model of the car, total labor price, nothing that is required to be on an estimate before work starts. My roommate knows nothing about cars, but felt something wasn’t right with the situation. I, on the other hand, have worked on cars all my life. So I go up to the desk and ask Mark for a line by line estimate stating the actual labor charges and he immediately got beligerant with me. His first excuse is that if he were fill out the form, his monthly reports would be off. Huh?! I’ve never been to a mechanic that doesn’t write a work order, with all of the pertinent information, and then get your signature on it agreeing to the charges and to allow them to do the work. Seeing that I wasn’t falling for his scam, he then demanded that I go take a seat in the lobby so that he could continue to work one over on my roommate. I refused and he said he would call the cops on me. Cops?! What?! I told him I didn’t think he was treating us honestly and I would be writing a review on Unilocal.He said he would sue me if I did. Again, just like what other reviewers have stated. Mark, it’s not slander if it’s true, buddy! There was more ridiculous intimidation tactics on his part, but I don’t want to make this review any longer. We ended up leaving and taking the car with us. Drove straight to an Autozone, prepared to buy a new alternator and battery and install them myself. The Autozone manager, who has only to gain by selling us parts, tested both of them with his computer and said they were both in perfect working order! So Mark was trying to scam my roommate out of over $ 550 to replace a battery and alternator that work fine! Chances are the other reviewers leaving 5 stars didn’t need the work done that they paid for and just didn’t know any better. Truly sad! I will also be filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair.

This place is great! My car had been stalling intermittently for about 1 ½ yrs. & given the wrong diagnosis from a couple other places. Well, finally my car died one day & I called for a tow. Then I got in the cleanest tow truck ever! Anyways, the driver told me if the free diagnosis so I went for it. Now they took a while to figure out what caused this, but got it right. It was my computer brain on my 97 Dodge Avenger. Well being unemployed at that time. Curtis was kind enough to find me one that was shipped & it was ready a couple days later. Awesome…& No more stalling! Five Stars all the way. Thanks Curtis & Crew

We were sent here by the towing company after my girlfriends jeep died and have been back since at least 4 times for various things from oil changes to major work and I’ve enjoyed dealing with Curtis every time. He’s honest, realistic and as long as you are patient (since it’s just him and a few guys but tons of work to do) you will enjoy your experience here. His prices are extremely fair I’ve found as well. Work that would have cost me $ 1200 at Midway Jeep (retarded monkeys they are) cost me only $ 400ish. There’s also a large waiting room with a nice recliner and couch and free wifi! If you plan to be there a while, bring something to do amd eat, as there is nothing really around.

Went outside to my car the other morning and it would not start! Called my insurance and a tow truck came. The guy who was towing my car went over and looked at it for me, tried to start it and gave me his opinion on what was wrong. I was going to have it towed over to pep boys but the guy suggested that I have it towed over to Quality Auto and Truck Repair because they will do the same diagnostic check for free where as pep boys charges 80 bucks! He towed it over there and I called to check in a few hours later and a guy named Curtis answered. He worked with me through the entire process and soooooo helpful! They even stayed open after hours for my mom and I because the traffic was bad getting there! Bottom line, if you want a really pleasant experience, helpful and smart group of guys go here!

UPDATE: It has been 16 months later since my unfortunate experience here. They said my engine was a goner, told me I needed a new one, blah blah blah. Well, I’d like to share that my car is in great working condition! I have the same engine since the day I drove it off the dealership lot, didn’t need a new one, went to a real mechanic who did regular 90k mile tune up, and it is now at 117,000 miles going strong.
Unilocal uses a program to filter out reviews. If you scroll down to the lower left bottom corner, you will see in grey a number in parentheses. For example, with Quality, it says (5 filtered). Click on that and you can see other reviews that did not make it to the front page. Ironic how I’m not the only one who was told they needed to spend thousands of dollars and turns out after a 2^nd opinion, it would be an easy fix and spend significantly less.
Aye, this Curtis guy is relentless. Gotta give it to him to get all riled up and argue with a customer over and over through Unilocal.He keeps saying that I’m giving the shop «unfair slandering.» It’s not slandering when all I’ve done is given my experience of what happened in my situation. Everyone on here is entitled to their own opinion and everyone one here will make their own decisions. I never once sway anyone to either go here or not go here. That’s up to the person. He keeps saying I’m slandering the shop. He’s been extremely unprofessional. He’s been arguing, belittling, passive aggressive, and harassing a customer. The scary part is that he is the manager. If he’s the manager, who should I contact to complain about him?
Quality Auto called me twice, but I didn’t answer, then they started to write rebuttals to my review. I called them back. LONG story short… we still did not see eye to eye. Quality feels that I was «slandering» their business. Curtis, the manager was not happy and I quote «your text from Unilocal does not match the one star rating.»
I feel that I’m entitled to my opinion and shared the experience I had. They clearly did not like my review. No matter what I said, the manager would not understand why I rated it with one star and couldn’t get over it. He said, «We gave you free diagnostics, new oil, new filter, good service, so where is the one star from.» I initially gave it one star because I thought they were trying to swindle me by saying I needed a new engine and turns out I don’t.
Short and sweet my experience: Car slowed down, made weird noises, oil light came on, pulled over, called tow truck, car was able to start and driveable, but didn’t trust it. Got it towed to this place Got rough estimates of an average $ 5,000 for new engine because at the time Curtis said most likely I needed a new engine, got new oil and new filter put on my car free of charge. My car was at 99k miles and said it wouldn’t last another day. The car did start again was told I needed brakes and transmission work.
Went for 2^nd opinion and my second opinion disagrees with Quality in that I do not need a new engine at all. I did need new brakes and transmission work.
Curtis, the manager, is clearly upset with my review. I called him finally and we had an very unpleasant conversation. He asked me to take down my review because he feels that it does not represent them well. I’m sorry, but Unilocal is for ppl to write about their experiences and this is how I perceived mine. So I’ll break down my rating system so Mr. Curtis understands.
In my mind, all businesses start out with 5 stars then I deduct points like on a rubric.
Minus 4 stars for telling me I needed an a new engine and potentially had to spend thousands of dollars. Second opinion completely disagrees with Quality.
So that leaves Quality with ONE STAR. Possibly worth 2.5 to 3 stars for Free diagnostics, oil, filter, and the initial customer service. But LOST all the potential stars due to continually writing rebuttals and the crazy argument over the phone and asking me to REMOVE my review. Oh and the small fact that you said I need a new engine, which equates to spending thousands of dollars. When in fact, I do not need a new engine, which was confirmed through a 2^nd opinion.
I repeat again, my personal experience is described here. The MANAGER out of all people needs to be professional and stop harassing my review.

This shop is great! It was cheap, no scamming, Curtis is awesome! I recommend this place to every one. Very speedy. They even fixed my wind shield wiper for free.

Horrible customer service and no common courtesy. Wish there was a 0 stars option — was contacted by the owner that he has no record of my visit. Seems fitting.

You must walk down the street to Hancock Street Café if you have to wait a while, and get a cup of coffee, a sandwich, or a personal pizza, to get to know Mr. HappyHap. I know it sounds crazy, but just do it.
Replaced my ignition coil (83 Volvo), fuses, and tail light. The fuses and tail light were NO CHARGE. WHO DOES THAT ANYMORE???

Just found this place directly behind the aka Sports Arena. I mean, it is exactly right across the street from the back of the Valley View Casino Center. Since I am a female who is always searching for a Mr. Right, as far as decent auto mechanics go, I am always on the lookout for quality” mechanics that can be trusted.
The only problem now is that Quality goes through managers like a baby goes through dirty diapers. The latest guy to run things has really upped the business angle here. This new guy is all about making money.
It’s great to have an affordable place to have your car fixed. 3 Unilocal Stars.
