Came here for the first time last week. So glad I did. Small place, but cute. We sat near the bar near the wood fired oven. Service was. fair, but she had suggestions for us. We each order a Sculpin, shared the Pizza Special(speck, mozzarella al tartuffo, I think, and arugula. And a Calzone. It came out promptly and was hot and delicious. The menu had a variety of times on it, so we will be back. But the pizza and calzones were great. Small parking lot, but street parking available.

WOW! Delicious wood fired pizza. Oven from Italy. Unilocal led us here. We are Caffè Calabria North Park regulars. This place is now our regular spot, it’s in our neighborhood. The pizza is spot on, simply delicious, Margarita is all you need. Nice wines by the glass for about $ 7.00 a glass, and happy hour with $ 5.00 glasses. Simple menu, pziza seems to be the specialty here. Extremely cozy, stone walls, pizza bar and drink bar, liquor, good draft beer, lovely lighting and warm service. Lacking music, it would add a lot to the ambiance and keep people there longer. Such a neighborhood gem, thank you Unilocalers.

I’ve dined here on several occasions and it never disappoints! This place is a novelty for amazing Italian cuisine in the area. The ambience is casual with a rustic flare, their food always scrumptious with an accessible price point. The best Italian restaurant in the area! They also have an excellent wine and cocktail list!

I was sorely disappointed with the food. Portions were small and dissatisfying, and ir didn’t even taste all that great. No sides included, only enter. Service was ok. Definitely would NOT recommend to a friend

Meh… I picked this place based on the excellent reviews but came away very disappointed. Being half Italian, born and raised in NY, I know a little bit about pizza and Italian food. The calamari was good. The pizza was just OK honestly not even close to being worth $ 14. It was surprisingly bland and didn’t have much depth of flavor. The crust was especially lacking in flavor although the chewy texture was spot on. The sauce added nothing to the equation. The tiramisu was again just OK. It was decent but lacking in flavor. The lady fingers had very little going on and the creamy portion tasted like plain whipped cream and lacked the usual mascarpone taste and texture. San Diego has some good Italian places and pizza but I’m sorry this is not one of them. I don’t know what others are thinking with all the high reviews but don’t come here expecting to be blown away. Save the 4 and 5 stars for the deserving guys…

Fantastic hot oven for fast, delicious pizza and calzones. Nice décor. Gluten free pizza available. We don’t drink, so I can’t speak to the bar, but it seems popular.

My husband and I had a great time there for happy hour. The drink prices were deeply discounted and the food was delicious. We ordered the calamari(perfectly done), a pizza and the potato croquettes. With two rounds of drinks and all that food, the bill was only $ 40. Definitely a deal for the quality of food and our service was excellent. We will be back.

Based on the other reviews, perhaps we had an off night but the food was just not good. I love the ambience of the place though! Provolone Calzone was huge and heavy, and didn’t seem cooked right– cheese not melted, you could see the slices. Strangely tasteless, but not sure why– there was plenty of sausage, spinach and cheese. Sauce would have made it vastly improved, but hey. Beer was good, some nice locals. Again, I love the look of the place but the food didn’t do it for us.

First impression is one of the waiters smoking outside the resturant and I had to ask them to stop. Huge turnoff. The food was delicious but I could still smell the cigarettes. I don’t know if I will be back. What really upset me is the manager was outside with the employee that was smoking and seemed like it was no big deal. I just want to say thanks for the asthma issue I had last night.

I gave up on ordering Calamari in San Diego years ago. So when Calamari Fritti was offered on Pummaro’s Happy Hour menu I gave it one last try. Cephalopoda Success! Their Calamari Fritti was exactly how it should be. Light, bold, with fried artichokes and plenty of lemon. Then, they tweak it with arugula. It was like Calamari arugula salad. Recommended. The Italian oven pizzas were good, and definitely provide unique pizza tastes that you probably haven’t tasted before(Ischia — sausage, peppers, and ricotta). They also have a caper and anchovy pie if you’re feeling salt deprived. It was very strong, but a slice of that made the whole dining experience better. Note that Neapolitan pizza dough is a bit more salty than most Italian dough. Desserts — Tiramisu, a nice big square of cake that’s enough for four people to have some pretty big bites. — If you’re looking for Neapolitan Pizza like Lombardi’s in Naples then Bruno’s Pizza is your place. Pummaro has good pizza also, and has better all around dinner options. I recommend it for anyone craving Italian Pizza. — Website seems old. Not sure if there is a kids menu anymore. You seem to be able to order child size portions though.

I have been all over Italy — Naples, Rome, Venice, Sorrento, Verona, etc. I consider myself a pizza snob. For pizza in San Diego, this is as good and authentic as it gets. The menu selection is wonderful. In addition to pizza, they have a variety of pastas, calzones, salads and entrees. The ingredients are always fresh and tasty. They have an excellent selection of beer and wine, too. What more can a girl ask for?

I really liked this place. Came on a slow Tuesday night n had 2 pizzas a pasta, a calamari n tiramisu. Everything came out well and everyone really enjoyed it. Very excited we came here and having a local Italian/pizza restaurant. Service was decent, parking ok in the area. I’d be glad to come again

This place is amazing! Great ambience and the prices are so reasonable. I did a double take at the check when it came to our table! We had the pizza Blanca and arrencini for apps. Both delicious! We spoilt the baby kale and beet salad which was really good and a pizza that had truffle oil, arugula, and shaved Parmesan cheese on it. Seriously might have been one of the best pizzas I have ever had. Great date spot too, but the bar area also looked liked nice to sit and eat at. I will definitely be coming back and would recommend to anyone in the area.

So, still in love, but finding the language barrier a little hard. Tonight I got 3 pizzas. I ordered a 4 formaggi gluten free with no Gorg & spicy Salame. First it came out with tomato sauce. There’s no tomato sauce on the 4 formaggi. Then it came out beautiful. And not gluten free. So I came back again. Both times the sweet girl apologized & said she misheard my order. They’re the nicest people. It’s just a little frustrating to have to wait 3 times for one pizza. they’re really nice about it & offered me dessert or a salad or a beverage, but I just wanted my delicious pizza

My roomie and I were headed to Pomodoro because we were craving some Italian food, and when driving into the parking lot we saw Pummaró and just had to check it out. We walked to the door to check out the menu out front and I immediately heard a song that I had not heard since I lived in Italy over 5 years ago! This made us have to go inside. There weren’t many people inside since we went for an early dinner, so we pretty much had our pick of anywhere in the place to sit. We chose to sit up at the bar, which was directly in front of the woodfire pizza oven so that we could watch the guy making pizzas. The pizza was AMAZING! truly delizioso and brought me back to my time in Italy. At one point I was looking around and I noticed an award that read ‘winner of the world pizza championship. Rome, Italy’ in Italian – we were still waiting for our food but I got even more excited knowing that there was no way this pizza we were about to eat was not going to be fantastic! I cant wait to go back asap.

I haven’t been back since this place was originally the Lighthouse. My friends wanted to go here for happy hour beer and snack. I’ll admit that I’ve been reluctant to do so because I heard it wasn’t the same. However I’m glad I tried it. The atmosphere completely changed from a place with an older crowd. The place got a nicer update by getting rid of the wall which made the place look a lot bigger and you can see the beautiful oven they purchased. I saw more younger people there. The staff was still very friendly and helpful. Pepperoni pizza: This came out really fast! Nice size for a personal sized thin crust pizza. The savory bites of pepperoni, dollops of mozzarella cheese, and savory but light pizza sauce were all nice. The outside crust was nice and crisp but the crust underneath was a bit soft though. Overall it was pretty good, but I wish it was a bit more toasted on the bottom. It gets more soft as the meal progresses so you have to eat it a bit faster than expected. Overall, I loved the staff. They were friendly, helpful, and attentive. The atmosphere was inviting and the food was pretty tasty. I would really like to try more food here to get a better feel for the place.

Pummaro is an OK pizza bar. The food menu is two pages, and one of those pages is entirely pizza. If you don’t get the hint early on — pizza is the thing here. The style pizza is thin(not crispy), foldable crust the way they do it in Naples(or so we are told). Pizzas are 12-inch personal size and we both enjoyed ours. Also I disagree with many of the reviews because we experienced very prompt and friendly service. The workers here are very, very nice. It’s a really nice scene here with the central bar and a «tucked away» feeling even though you’re right in the midst of all the Harbor Drive restaurants. But where Pummaro could use some help would be the basics. For example, the restroom had a broken urinal and no paper towels. That’s a pretty big oversight considering you are a restaurant whose primary attraction is eaten using two hands. If you’re looking for decent pizza in a quiet spot where you won’t have to wait for a table, this is for you. You won’t regret your time here, but don’t expect the world, either.
