Specialties
Power Scuba is a San Diego-based non-profit organization dedicated to scuba divers, ocean stewardship, and the preservation of our underwater environment. Power Scuba will facilitate shore & boat dives locally as well as overseas trips to exotic locations. The group also educates the community, through outreach and programs, about the local underwater ecosystem which desperately needs our help. Power Scuba provides a means by which divers can be more active in scuba activities while they also become attuned to the plight the ocean currently faces.
History
Established in 2008.
Power Scuba started out as a small effort by scuba instructor and ocean advocate Bill Powers. The concept of a no-dues, non-profit group that fights for the health of the ocean caught on quickly and the group grew so rapidly Bill filed Articles of Incoporation in January of 2011 and will file for 501©(3) non-profit status in April of 2011.

Business Owner
Bill Powers has lived in San Diego nearly all his adult life. He arrived as a raw Navy recruit in 1980 and decided there weren’t many better places to live. He’s been involved in the defense industry since 1993 and currently work as a logisitcs engineer for a large corporation in North San Diego county.
Bill was certified to dive in 1984 in the Philipines and has been an oceans advocate (to one degree or another) ever since. He became a shark divemaster for a dive store on Catalina in 1996 (part time) for a short while and became a scuba instructor in 2004. He taught dive lessons for the single largest scuba shop in Southern California until August of 2009 when he became an independent instructor. Currently he teaches under the moniker, Power Scuba Lessons (found on Meetup.com).
