Penny Blooms Floral Design

I knew that planning a wedding from another state was not going to be easy, so I knew that I needed someone on point when I was looking for vendors. I found Desiree with Penny Blooms online and reached out to her. We scheduled a phone call and we were on the phone for almost an hour, chatting and laughing and getting to know each other. I was that girl that had literally been planning her wedding since I was a young girl, so I had some very specific ideas and types of florals in mind already but I knew that I needed help executing them my vision. I wanted bright, beautiful, eye-​catching florals to compliment a black and white striped/​craft beer theme. I made our floral budget very clear to her and she created the perfect proposal for us. She informed me that she did wedding coordination as well and provided me with a proposal, why not kill two birds with one stone? We decided to hire her, and it was one of the BEST decisions I made.
Over the next couple of months, we corresponded over email and she was very responsive to my questions. She put together a tablescape for me and it was everything I envisioned in my head. We used beer growlers as vases and spray-​painted black matte beer bottles to use as small vases. Desiree contacted a local brewery and got over 200 beer bottles for free and sprayed them herself! I have no idea how long that took but the different sized bottles gave the tables dimension and looked awesome. On the coordination side, she was as I say, «my Fairy Godmother.» She was the single most person besides myself who knew everything about the wedding. Desiree knows exactly what she’s doing. She is a true designer and artist and knows how to add those special touches, and she works incredibly hard to make everything look perfect. My guests and family even noticed how she was present the whole time. I had an amazing wedding experience and I owe a lot of that to Desiree. She’s simply awesome!

My husband I were planning our vow renewal and as a wedding industry professional, I knew I wanted to hire Desiree. She doesn’t lack creativity when it comes to design and she really executes her ideas so well. Even though I gave her ideas of what I wanted (types of flowers, etc), I encouraged her to get creative.
She didn’t disappoint. She did an AMAZING job with my bouquet, my bridesmaids boquets and the bouts for the guys. I can’t thank her and her husband enough for what they created for my vow renewal.

We were interested in having Penny Bloom do flowers for our upcoming wedding. My fiancé and I both met with Penny Blooms owner Desiree in person at her office. In our meeting Desiree had good creative ideas for the flowers and on top of that we were really happy to learn she had numerous other rental items that were available to use. When our meeting concluded Desiree indicated that she would have a cost estimate to us «in two weeks but most likely sooner». My fiancé and I walked out of Penny Blooms thinking that we may have found our florist.
Fast forward two weeks and we had yet to get our cost estimate let alone any communication from Desiree. We reached out to Desiree but could not get a response. She had fallen off the face of the earth. This I found to be completely unprofessional. If something else came up and you no longer have our wedding date available that’s fine but I would at least expect a response to an email and a call or some sort of notification.
I found Penny Blooms to be unprofessional and in the end just a lot of good sounding lip service. If I could give zero stars I would. I would not trust my wedding day to Penny Blooms and would NOT recommend this shop to anyone. In the end the florist we went with was Flora Glamor who is also out of San Diego. Flora Glamor was honest, straight forward and creative.

I was married on September 20, 2014. Desiree from Penny Blooms is amazing. Within minutes of meeting her, she had me figured out completely and was making suggestions and planning my wedding to perfection. Her husband says that her «gift» is immediately knowing a person and their style and being able to bring it to life. I have to agree wholeheartedly! I hired her for the flowers, the décor, and I also hired her husband as the Butler to take care of the men (dressing, not getting drunk, etc. LOL) Her prices were very reasonable for the service and look you get. I have a very distinct style and do not like ordinary. Round rose bouquets are not for me. She sized me up immediately and her finished product far exceeded my expectations. I am so grateful that I found her and now consider her to be a friend as well as the best florist/​stylist on the planet! Please contact me directly for any other information you need. Desiree from Penny Blooms did the florals for my bouquet when I eloped down town in November of last year. I supplied her with a picture of the general idea of what I wanted and the day of she delivered the bouquet. It was PERFECT. The flowers were so much more beautiful than what I had expected.
I was so impressed I hired her for my wedding reception. We did the same process where I supplied her with a picture of what I had in mind and she exceeded my expectations once again. My husband even said to me, «Desiree outdid herself again. She took what we gave her and turned it up to an ¹¹⁄₁₀.»
I highly recommend her for any florals or coordination.

I contacted company via email and phone and never got a response. There was even an automated response through email that said I would be reached within 72 hours and nada.
I was hoping to do wedding flowers through company but no such luck.
There should be a better system in place…

As a wedding vendor, I have had the pleasure of working with Penny Bloom Florals several times over the last two years. I can tell you that I have never seen such gorgeous and original designs! Desiree, along with her assistants Sebastian and Kim, are a real delight to watch work. They take such time and care arranging every bouquet, center piece, aisle, alter, cake decoration, other decoration, and more! Not only that, but every flower choice really reflects the desires and personality of the couple. I always send all of my brides to Desiree!
Needless to say, I am absolutely IN LOVE with Desiree and her floral team! When I was preparing for my own wedding at the beginning of this year, I knew there was no other florist for me! Desiree was going to be unavailable in May, but her amazing assistant Kim stepped up for the challenge. Desiree helped us pick out and order the flowers and Kim arranged everything on our special day. I know it’s silly, but when the flowers were wheeled out for us to see, I actually teared up with joy.
Everything was so perfect! Thank you so much Kim for making the most beautiful arrangement I have EVER seen! There will never be enough ways to say thank you. And thank you Desiree for planning the florals and making sure that everything was taken care of! You two are not only good florists, but amazing people!

I literally can not give Penny Blooms enough stars. Desiree is an absolute genius when it comes to flower design. She could easily charge three or four times her current rates, but what she actually does charge is so reasonable it’ll make you do a double take. She’s also the kindest, funniest, flat-​out NICEST woman I’ve ever met in my entire life. Yup, hiring Penny Blooms was kinda like winning the wedding lottery.
Our flowers were so ridiculously beautiful. So, ok, I was one of those annoying brides who was incapable of cementing anything. We kinda narrowed down a theme: formal and fancy-​pants and super traditional… but not TOO formal, I guess, because it’s San Diego… oooh, and let’s do the whole peacock thing… but not, like, cheesy «put a bird on it» peacock… and, I don’t know, can we throw in some black roses and cacti because now I’m annoyed at the whole «wedding planning» tedium and want to curse tradition under my breath. Most florists probably would have fired me. Not Des. She rolled up her sleeves and pulled together the most insanely beautiful arrangements I have EVER seen. Those black roses looked breathtaking against the pale green and cream roses she found, and the random fiddlehead ferns and creamy succulents kept everything from being too frilly. She balanced everything out with these darling, delicate pale violet-​blue flowers that looked like they were plucked from a Victorian garden, and tiny, brilliant gold billy balls. She also discreetly tucked dramatic peacock feathers in the centerpieces, and it was the perfect touch to tie all the colors together. She also provided flowers for the wedding cake, and the cascade of pure white roses tumbling down the side of our perfect white cake was so gorgeous I almost didn’t want to cut into it.
Des wasn’t just the flower girl, though: she literally chimed in expert opinions about absolutely everything wedding related. And when I was having a particularly stressful week (fiancé was deployed, work was a mess, and I had a bunch of exams to study for), she literally picked me up and carted me off to see Hunger Games and gossip for a couple of hours. Seriously, who DOES that? Des does. Because she’s amazing.
Desiree seriously is the best floral designer in the whole freaking world. I don’t think I am exaggerating at all. You should probably hire her NOW before she books herself solid through, like, 2015.

Desiree of Penny Blooms was just recently my florist for my wedding and I would HIGHLY recommend her. She went above and beyond the call of duty. She was so incredibly helpful throughout the entire process always looking for good deals, willing to give advice, show examples, etc. She even found some thank you cards for me that matched my invitations at a fraction of the price that I would find anywhere else. On the day of the wedding, she set up all of the centerpieces and they looked AMAZING. In addition, the bouquets and boutineirs (sp?) were absolutely beautiful — exactly what I wanted. Desiree far exceeded my expectations time and time again and she’s extremely affordable. If you need a florist for your wedding or party, Desiree at Penny Blooms is your girl!!! Thank you Des!!!

I had such and amazing experience working with Desiree for my wedding flowers. I felt comfortable telling her exactly what I wanted. She let me have my vision and with a little guidance and a few recommendations for her, she created it perfectly. My wedding day didn’t feel real until Desiree showed up with the beautiful flowers.

Desiree is AMAZING! I had so much fun working with Desiree as she designed the floral arrangements for my wedding. From our initial meeting, Desiree had an understanding of my style, and I was blown away by how she translated that into her floral design. I greatly appreciated her «above and beyond» service (she took on other projects/​responsibilities outside of flowers!), and her friendly, fun personality was so refreshing to be around. I received so many compliments on her work, and I cannot wait to use her again!

Desiree and I have worked together twice now. The first time, she helped me set up for a wedding (I’m a coordinator) where the bride had done so many of the details herself. Because I was so busy, I didn’t have time to fix the small parts — Desiree jumped in with her Floral Kit and her keen eye. She made ribbons tight and lovely, fixed the (fake) flowers the bride had arranged (to make them look similar — but perfect), and carefully checked each table to make sure that the setup looked right. This was a complicated event and I don’t think I could have finished all of the setup without Desiree!
The second time, I helped her with a Circus-​themed birthday party for a 1-​year old. She had excellent ideas, a great overall vision, and lots of creativity. The setup of the party was whimsical (white hydrangeas in popcorn boxes? Brilliant!) and fun, not a detail was overlooked, and the whole party was expertly put together.
I am looking forward to working with Desiree in the future — her creativity and dedication shine through her work, and her dedication to making her flowers AFFORDABLE and BEAUTIFUL means that her clients will never be disappointed.

I was delighted with the whimsical floral arrangements Penny Blooms provided my nephew’s circus themed 1^st birthday extravaganza this past weekend. I love Desiree’s ability to come up with designs that fit seamlessly with the parties theme even when it is for a child’s birthday. This was not the first event I went to with flowers by Desiree. Years ago I went to a small courthouse wedding in which all of the bridal party and groomsmen’s flowers were by Desiree, including the most gorgeous and original bouquet I had ever seen. Because of her talent, thoughtfulness, artistry, and attention to detail I will always go to her for my floral needs and I will continue to recommend her to friend’s and family.

Desiree did an absolutely, perfect job designing the flowers for our wedding. She created the perfect mix of a vintage-​Italian, theme to match our vineyard atmosphere. Desiree was extremely knowledgeable, and she walked us through the process along the way. There were no hidden surprises and I was amazed at how beautiful the bouquets were at such an affordable cost. I highly recommend Penny Blooms for your special day! You won’t be disappointed.

I was so lucky to have Desiree doing the arrangements for my wedding. Not only did everything turn out so beautifully and better than I ever imagined she did it all within my budget! She is extremely flexible, creative, kind, and easy going. She would be a welcome addition to any stressed out bride’s planning world as she has a calming and reassuring way about her. She has a great eye and really knows how to capture the beauty in flowers, etc and is great at incorporating your theme and color.
