PB Surf Shop

I had a friend in town and we were short a bike for our tour of PB. We rented one here for the afternoon because of the reviews and the proximity to my house. It was so worth it. The guys were super friendly, transaction was easy and as promised, and the bike was in good shape. It was also really reasonably priced at something like $ 20 for an afternoon.
I have since recommended them for bike rentals, and will definitely be back when I finally suck it up and take a surf lesson!

Wow — the staff at this shop were SUPER helpful. I purchased two wetsuits and being a complete novice I wasn’t sure what to look for in terms of fit, warmth and durability. Pierre was a star and hooked my kids up with wetsuits that now keep them in the water for hours rather than coming out after a few minutes due to cold water or sand fleas. I will definitely return in the future.

$ 85 for a 90 minute surf session which is a little more than the average $ 75 in the area. My instructor really knew his surf and was a good teacher. However, he only took me out for 60 minutes and the board broke on the first wave, and he said «that’s what the shop gets for not buying good boards». The people are nice enough, but not warranted all of these 5 star reviews.

Sent my 21 year old and 8 year old for a 1.5 hour private lesson today and they were great. Matt, their instructor made it fun for both of them, even with the age difference. The wetsuit and board rental were included. On time, professional, and even though it was choppy I felt like he was safe, especially with my 8 year old. Highly recommend this place and we’ll be back. Great, motivating and fun first surf lesson! My son had his first surf lesson with Shane which in my son’s words «was the most epic thing he has ever done». Shane was really great, motivating and professional working with my son who is 11 years old. About a week later, my son had another surfing lesson through PB surf shop but with Nick (Shane was not there this day) but it went very well also… Nick stepped up the level just a bit for my son which I thought was great. My son found the lesson to be a bit harder and challenging, but again «epic» ;)
We look forward to more lessons when we return to PB !!

Just bought a wetsuit and this place is awesome! Walked in and was immediately greeted, led to the perfect wetsuit at a very reasonable price and they gave me full assurance they will warranty their products. I wish I got her name but the lady with the short hair is amazing and the older man at the counter told me everything I need to know about keeping my wetsuit clean and in good condition. I will recommend this shop to anyone looking for anything they carry!

This place has everything. Customer service, surf lessons, bike rentals, wetsuit and surfboard rentals and skate rentals. They have a beachside location… on the boardwalk. PB Surf Shop is second to none. I love this place! Highly recommended to everyone! Come check them out!

Had an amazing surf lesson. Try to get Shane if you can. The guy knows his surf and is very helpful with specific techniques.

A truly excellent experience! My kids and I did a surfing lesson here on President’s Day with Conner. My kids are small (42-​ish pounds), 7 and 8 years old. The surf was big for beginners, but Conner made them feel comfortable and they had a great time. They were standing up in no time. The wetsuits and equipment were good, the help, awesome. I highly recommend them for a lesson, maybe just choose a warmer day!

SO, being a brand new surfer, and ready to meet a freind who was going to begin to teach me how to surf, I needed a wet suit. I decided to buy one rather than rent one as I will use it for other sports too. I was concerned about which surf shop to go to as I wanted knowledgeable employees, not just attitude and a hard sell (especially because I was a newbie, or a «barney» as new surfers are called). I was immediately greeted upon entering the shop. I walked to the wetsuit section and was approached by an employee who asked if I needed any help. I said I did, in fact, need help as I was a brand new surfer. The guy was very cool, showed me different suits and explained the differences. I tried a few on and made my selection. I purchased a few other essential surfing items and proceeded to check out. My sales guy and another checked employee me out at the counter and were very friendly and informative.
The store is very clean, well-​stocked and well-​organized. There was absolutely NO ATTITUDE, even when I told them I was new to surfing.
I will note, just for time sake, if you are using a GPS, the Oliver address puts you behind the store with no visible store entrance. The entrance is in front in a small mall area. I was traveling north and did not know the mall area was there, so it took me a quick moment to go around to the front.
In a nutshell: Great place with great employees and product. I’ll be back.

Son took private lessons. Great deal, he was standing up about the 3^rd or 4^th lesson. We had a good time, and employees were very friendly. If you want to learn to surf, have fun and get your moneys worth, go here. Sign up online was fast and easy. Heard Webmaster and/​or Owner is IT, so that helps! Awesome value.

They rent out a lot of things: surf boards, wet suits, chairs and umbrellas, bikes, skateboards, etc.

Mission beach is a great stretch of amazing sand, people watching, beefed up beachhouses, and beach bum shops and restaurants. You would walk it but… biking is so much better! One of the most picturesque and pretty things to do in the city. Both times I found the PB surf shop as the mast store at the top of the path, cheap rates, friendly staff, before you know it you are on the bike dodging puddles, muscle bound joggers, and being blinded by the sun while taking pictures while trying not to fall over on the kids running in front of you.

This place is awesome. I’ve never been surfing, but had always wanted to try so when my roommate was offered a free surf lesson through her work we immediately signed up. I was pretty nervous since I’m not the most athletic/​coordinated, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me.
We got to the shop a few minutes early and were pretty instantly greeted by Randy, one of the owners. He was incredibly friendly and excited to get us out surfing. There were about 9 – 10 people in the group, and he and the instructors took the time to shake hands and introduce themselves to all of us individually. They quickly fitted us up in our wet suits (included in the cost of a lesson) and after a brief history of surfing, had us heading out to the beach.
There were 3 instructors for our group, and they were absolutely fantastic. They were super friendly, positive and encouraging. After spending a few minutes on the sand teaching us different techniques to stand up on the board, they had us head into the waves and see what we could do. They did such a good job going from person to person, giving everyone enough attention to make sure everyone stood up at least once.
I was only in the water for maybe 15 minutes thanks to my asthma deciding to act up, and while I was kind of wading in shallow water to see if I would be able to go back out each instructor came up to me at different times to make sure I was ok. None of them made me feel pathetic or wimpy for needing to go sit back on the beach. I was completely impressed with how well they worked with literally everyone in the group. My roommate told me that they would help her catch a wave, and then she’d be paddling back out and there was another instructor like «Ok, you ready to go again?» and she’d have to tell them to give her a second to catch her breath before going again– they were that attentive. And from my seat on the sand, by the end of the lesson every one in the group was standing on the board.
What impressed me the most though was just the simply positive attitude everyone at the shop had. You could tell that not only do they love surfing, but they love getting other people excited about surfing, too. They were so naturally encouraging it was amazing. If I ever decide to take another surfing lesson (which I probably will) I will FOR SURE give these guys a call. I can’t say enough good things about my experience with them. And while my lesson was free, I would have been happy to fork over the fee at the end of the session.

Everyone at the PB Surf Shop is very helpful, respectful and chill. My surf instructor Jeremy was super nice and the photos were worth the extra 30 bucks. I’ll be back to take more surfing lessons… Thanks guys I had a great time.

Looking for a great local spot for surf gear and the Roots of the true soul surfer? This shop is then place to go.. .not only is pb surf shop extremely well equipped with great surf gear but they hire a staff that you will see out surfing, skating, or cruising around san diego with smiles on their faces living life.
The surf lessons have been perfected to teach and motivate what surfing is all about, your not paying for a lesson to get up on a board but more of a lesson on the whole surf world culture.
The owner, Randy, is brilliant, humble, and the type of guy that will attentively come up to you and talk to you about any sorts of questions you have no matter how big of a kook you are ;)!!! He also picks up on the little shredders and gives them a place in the surf world.
A billion thumbs up PB Surf shop! I love you guys.

Super nice people, not to mention instructors that have incredible enthusiasm for the kids they’re teaching (Note: I didn’t take a lesson, just overheard a few instructors hyping up kids who were about to).
Selection of new and use boards is adequate. Good choices in longboards and a few «classic» decks by H-​Street and Powell & Peralta.
It’s a shop that trys to keep it «eco friendly» (ok ‘green’) so they have Famous Green Label wax and some super soft bamboo t’s as well.

We rented surfboards while down in San Diego on vacation (on a couple days). The prices are ok, they have a good selection of boards for rent, and the people that work there are very friendly. Great shop.

If you’re like most people strolling Ocean Blvd, you can easily get distracted by the throngs of people from across the world enjoying all that Pacific Beach has to offer. Time and time again, I see people get sucked into neighboring Lahaina’s like a tractor beam.
However, if one truly wants to enjoy all that this world famous beach has to offer, surfing on a surfboard, boogieing on a boogie board, or — you guessed it — cruising on a beach cruiser is an absolute must.
P.B. surf shop offers such rentals at reasonable prices. I recently went here and spent $ 20 on a wetsuit and surfboard rental for over 4 hours.
At the end of your 4 hour dose of local fun-​in-​the-​sun, by all means, Lahaina’s will not seem like a distraction, but more like a perfect way to end your immersion into California love.
