Still coming here since 2001. Angela the office manager always helps me greatly with my changes in insurance and helping me with my dental needs.
Don’t be swayed by the bad reviews, I question these as they are from people that only have one review or have a «skewed» review basis — all 5s or all 1s.
They greet me by name and he staff is super friendly.
Paul is young, ok not that young and always keeps up with the newest dental equipment and procedures. No x-​rays here, they use some sort of computer to image, rather than he old fashioned radiology.
The office always smells incredible and has a really nice salt water tank in the waiting room.
Hope for a super good cleaning and a clean bill of health…

I visited Dr. Taylor’s office after being long over-​due for a cleaning.
From the front office staff, to the dental assistants, to Dr. Taylor, my experience was seamless.
I am normally very fearful when going to the dentists, like many, but they really put me at ease.
They have two offices which makes scheduling very convenient.
I would definitely refer Dr. Taylor’s office to anyone looking for a new dentist!

I have had excellent treatment and Customer Service at Dr. Taylor’s Genessee office. My sons have had the same at the other office. I love the staff here. They are very friendly and kind. I don’t have the slightest idea what the negative reviews are about, as I highly recommend Dr. Taylor to everyone I know..

MY experience with the front and back staff was great. The ladies are always friendly and I’ve only had one mishap on their end. but. Anyway, the hygienist is amazing, she did my deep cleaning and I love her! Sweet lady (:

Dr. Taylor has been my dentist for about 4 years. Prior to finding him I had tried several dentists in San Diego, and never found a dentist that took me seriously when I said the nerve of my tooth wasn’t numb and that I could feel the drilling. The other dentists put my anxiety down to being nervous.
I told Dr. Taylor about this and he worked very carefully to make sure the tooth nerves were numb. He is the first dentist that I have had since I was a teenager to be able to do this.
I have always had great service at his office. His staff is knowledgable and courteous. II have referred a couple of friends to him and they have found the same results. I won’t see any other dentist.

If I could remove give Zero stars I would. After receiving a huge bill for crowns that my PPO plan conveniently only covered the $ 1000 on I felt something was wrong, as this my out of pocket was a couple of thousand. I was then immediately referred to their specialist for a root canal on one of these crowns and paid $ 1300 for this «emergency» service which nothing was discounted by my PPO plan; I sucked it up. I went back after all of this treatment for a regular scheduled cleaning which is 100% covered by my PPO only to get a bill months later for the balance. I am an insurance professional and fully understand coverage. They upcode all of their billing to get the higher paid rates. I specifically requested all of my claim forms after they billed my PPO plan. I then reviewed the line by line items from services rendered.
What I was quoted was not what was billed to my insurance. They are upcoding and committing billing fraud. This office has a friendly staff and I never met Dr Taylor, only the other DDS. Needless to say, I am not going back now that this year my pockets are refilled in the PPO bucket. Perhaps I will take the treatment plan that was provided to me and have my carrier cross reference them. They should have sucked up that bill for the cleaning, because I am pissed. I have paid out the wazoo for this dentist.

I went for a free check up because my medical insurance threw in a free dental plan and this dentist was on it. I have been paying $ 80 for a very thorough cleaning at my regular dentist of 7 years who is not covered by the new plan. I went for my checkup and never even saw Dr. Taylor. I was examined by an Asian woman for about 3 minutes and she began to up sell various procedures, even a root canal. I told her that I haven’t had a cavity in 15 years and only wanted my teeth cleaned. She quoted me $ 95 even with the insurance paying also. She said that nobody would clean teeth thoroughly in SD for $ 80, like I told her. She got uppity and practically called me a liar. I left and told them to forget about me ever coming back.
I was going to post my regular dentists name but he is so good and also reasonable in price WITH NEVER A SALES PITCH, he is booked up anyway.

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! As suggested before, I was convinced to do several costly procedures. I should have gotten a second opinion but I trusted they knew what they were doing. After now about 5 years and 2 dentists, the new dentists were shocked as to how much I was charged and the poor quality of the work. Every crown, onlay, and veneer has broken and needs replacement.

I was recently offered a free check up by Dr. Taylor’s office. Too bad for them since it reminded me of what I went through at their office and spurred a negative review.
I don’t recall much in the way of arrogant of pushy staff, but I do recall being surprised by a big price for two fillings I supposedly needed per Dr. Taylor exam. The cost shocked me, so I decided to get a second opinion from my former dentist who always struck me as honest and affordable. That dentist told me I had some deep crevices in those teeth, but no cavities at all. She offered to do a simple procedure to fill those crevices as protection against their becoming cavities. This procedure was going to cost me about $ 25 each! Dr. Taylor wanted over $ 200 for each filling, as best I recall. The exact costs are not the point. The charge he wanted was exorbitant and the fillings not necessary since no cavities existed!
Needless to say I stuck with my former dentist. So much for believing some positive reviews and trying someone new. Moral: stick with who you can trust.

QUALITY. My root canal could not have gone any better. The facilities are amazing, the staff is superior, and the service is top notch. I could not recommend another Oral Surgeon more than Dr. Taylor. SUPERIOR.

Great dentist and team. Everyone is very very nice. You can tell that they do their best to make sure you have a good experience. They treat you like a customer and want to earn your business. Love that they have two offices to choose from. I’ve never had trouble making an appt that works for my time. They were even very sweet when I had to bring my wriggling toddler along with me.

I received a phone call from this office today which was laughable. First I must correct that I was not referred to an oral surgeon, but to an endodonist — apparently this specification is important as they the person on the phone tried to negate every point I made in my previous review.
I stick by the fact that Dr. Taylor did not take an x-​ray before sending me to the endodontist and that I was not informed of my co-​pay for the sealing of my tooth after the root canal until I was sitting in the office chair about to have it done. At which point I got up and walked out without having it done. The office insists they took an x-​ray at my initial appointment for the pain, however, I do not remember having one done and when my new dentist Dr. George Georgaklis (please see my review of this dentist as I highly recommend him) requested x-​rays they were never sent over. So where are these x-​rays that were supposedly taken?
The woman on the phone then brought up their lawyer. I’m not sure what that was about, because I basically stopped listening to her, but I did say that I would gladly have my new dentist send over the paperwork indicating that I had TMJ and that they never received any x-​rays from this office.

I’ve been with Dr. Taylor since he first took over this dental practice. I’ve been to quite a few dentists over my lifetime. I have NEVER been happy enough with any of them that I’d recommend one to a friend. The only exception has been Dr. Taylor. I’ve recommended his office to several friends just in the past year. He’s not the least expensive dentist. But I’ve never felt pressured to have a procedure that was not in my best interest or out of line with what other offices would charge.
The office staff is a real treat. I actually look forward to going for my regular cleanings, etc because I know I’ll be treated like a valued person and not just another client. You know how some dental offices can be!
Dr. Taylor is professional, very smart. Very good at what he does. Highly recommended.

I moved into Clairemont and did a search for a new dentist. Dr Taylor had already received good reviews, so I thought I’d give him a try. Wow! I have been so pleased, I don’t mind going to the dentist now. He is efficient and gentle. His office staff are so pleasant and they know their jobs. I have especially appreciated Angela’s insurance knowledge and Alex for the way she explains the procedures before they happen. I have recommended other family members and workmates too. 5 stars from me.
Oh! a big plus is that Dr Taylor doesn’t try to sell you extra stuff you don’t need.

Since moving to San Diego in ’91 I have had some seriously sketchy dental work. I had been through 3 – 4 different dentists that has proceeded to screw up my mouth and give me a serious fear of dental work.
I am thrilled to have found Dr. Taylor a few years ago. My crummy crowns have been fixed and my bite is back to normal which means my TMJ and migraines are gone. He and his staff have been very gentle and have helped relieve my fear. I can wear my ipod when I get work done and have also been able to take a valium when needed.
I have never been offered a up-​sale on any services here. the last 2 dentists I went to were always pushing their whitening services and it got seriously annoying. This place I got in, get what needs to be done done and get out.

I’ve been going here for about 2 years now and overall I’m really very happy with the experience. I have seen a huugge improvement in my teeth and gums. They do everything they can to make you as comfortable as possible.
I’ve never felt pressured to do any work I didn’t need. I was there the other day for a cleaning and they noticed that I may be getting a cavity on one of my teeth but suggested we just keep an eye on it because I may not need a filling. I really trust these guys. i mean if this is some kind of scam like some of the reviews say, then why wouldn’t they have told me i need it? I would have believed them, because I trust them (the hygienists, assistants, and Dr. Taylor). I also have a cross-​bite & TMJ, and they would probably get something out of a referral to an orthodontist but Dr. Taylor will just say I don’t really need to do anything about it unless it’s an aesthetic issue for me (which it isn’t). I really trust their recommendations, including those for preventative care.
OH also, they did a crown for me about a year ago, trying to save me from having to get a root canal because the cavity or whatever was sooooo close to the nerve but looked savable. They did a fantastic job, but finally about a year later I had one of those up-​all-​night pains. I called them and they saw me right away and knew I would need a root canal. Even though they don’t do root canals, they talked to me and gave me a ton of info about how they work and what to expect, then they got me in with an endodontist close by (Dr. Acierno I believe). All went extremely well as far as the quality of the work, the time it took to get in, and the price. Ever since I got my fillings with Dr. Taylor and the root canal, I’ve had no tooth pain at all and a significant decrease in tooth sensitivity (a first for me). My gum health has improved too.
Even if my HMO covered a smaller percentage of the work done here, it would still be worth it for the quality (for the record, I verified the other day that my HMO covers over 80% of the cost of cleanings which is more than i had initially thought. the fillings and crown were closer to 50 or 60%)

Smiles by the Bay is far and away the best dental office I have ever been to. The staff always gets me in quickly, and every visit I’ve had has been pain-​free, which is HUGE to me.
I have been a patient of Dr. Taylor for about 10 years and he gets that most people care not only about the health, but the appearance of their smile. I have been to him for fillings, whitening, and invisalign and recommend him to all my people in SD who ask me who my dentist is.

Thank you Dr. Taylor and staff… I was a bad girl and totally slept through my appointment time. I received a call to re-​schedule by the office manager Angela. I felt so bad but she was so understanding and worked so hard to get me in the same week. I was off from work which I usually never am. The last dentist I had was not the best so Dr. Taylor has his work cut out with me but is always gentle and patient. I am a very happy monkey and will continue my business with Dr. Taylor and his awesome staff. I always feel at home when I step into the office. Keep up the awesome work Doc! Besos Tons ;)

This Dentist is way better than the reviews that he has gotten. I’ve been a patient for about a decade.
I’m not sure what these people who put in negative reviews are speaking of, but there’s no scam here. Paul has always been a great professional dentist. He is running a business and sure there is some upsell for some cosmetic stuff as he is continually doing extra education for veneers and other things; I have never felt pressured EVER.
I had old crowns chip one time on a weekend and called him. He called me back in 5 minutes! Try to get another dentist to do this.
Check your charges before you have work done; you wouldnt go and buy a car and not ask the price before you bought would you. If you don’t have good insurance go to TJ and get your grilll done???
Don’t slam a good dentist for charging for work. Shame on you 1 star people.
The office is clean, the staff is courtesy and not slick talkers and I’ve never had an issue, just good work.

SEEMS LIKE A SCAM!!! HMO PATIENTS WATCH OUT!!!
I don’t care what anyone says, this dentist is running what I would perceive to be a scam operation.
The receptionists are fast talkers, which is fine with me, and Dr. Taylor is just kind of… blah. He is not a jerk, but he is not terribly friendly or personable either. None of that bothered me much because I figure he is a professional running a business and he doesn’t need to be my best friend. What really upset me was that my «treatment» ended up being hundreds and hundreds of dollars out of pocket and they wanted a lot of it up front! Adding to this, they DO use a lot of tricky codes and they don’t like explaining the charges to you.
Because the prices quoted to me seemed so outrageous, I made the mistake to ask the receptionist if she could call my insurance to make sure it was correct. Well, she got really bitchy and cut me off by telling me that she already knew the costs quoted to me were correct and that she was not going to waste time calling my insurance. Anyway, I almost went back because I wanted to have my teeth taken care of as soon as possibble, but decided to call my insurance just to inquire why my out of pocket was so high and I went through the «treatment» code number by code number only to be given a different price for every single item which was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what they quoted me.
Adding to this, I actually took the time to call back one more time just to make sure and another representative of my HMO gave me the same information. Also, this dental office has a lot of complaints. If you don’t believe the negative reviews here, please call your dental insurance and let them know that you would like to inquire if this office has complaints against them filed with your insurance customer service dept. Like my insurance company, they should be able to forward you to the customer service dept. that handles complaints and MUST DISCLOSE AT YOUR REQUEST any compliants they have against this office.
This office could be scamming people. If you decide to go here at least do your homework and check the prices they give you with your insurance company. Don’t be fooled by their fast talking receptionists, something is up at this place. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!
