Paddle Board Bliss

Tried my first SUP yoga class on a cloudy Thursday afternoon with Sara (I believe). I injured my oblique and she created a gentle flow class (more like private lesson) that I loved. Will definitely return next year on Vaca!

My husband and I celebrated our 11 year anniversary by going SUP. Instead of giving gifts we like to try something new. Needless to say my husband was not too keen on SUP for whatever reason. We trekked down to SD leaving the kid with the grandparents. Mission Bay is absolutely gorgeous. It has calm, blue waters with white soft sand around it’s shores. The calm waters make it perfect for SUP, kayaking, swimming, sailing, etc.
Our instructor, Sara Snow, was great, incredibly chill and easy with giving instructions. It’s really not that tough to do SUP. We paddled around the bay for an hour and a half and it gave me confidence to do SUP on my own. She even took our picture. There is room for 4 people in the class but we had 3.
They also offer yoga on a paddle board which sounds incredibly challenging. Prices are reasonable. Definitely spend carve out some time to do this. It’s quite relaxing and it’s a great workout.

Erin is absolutely amazing! It was my sister’s birthday and Erin was in the process of changing her summer schedule to fall schedule and still allowed us to take a SUP yoga class on Saturday at 11 am. Erin let us start the class later since we had to get situated with paper work and putting on sunblock. She had so much patience teaching us how to paddle board and had so much grace while teaching us SUP yoga. Erin also let us stay out in the ocean for an extra 30 minutes since it wasn’t busy. Erin made our experience and my sister’s birthday absolutely magical! We will definitely be going back to pay her a visit! A million thanks to you Erin! I highly recommend taking a class here, you won’t regret it :)

Shawn was my instructor/​guide — by far the most personable, knowledgable, and was also professional. You can tell he does what he loves and is good at it. I am just in town for a business trip but decided to go paddle boarding last minute. Shawn’s pride in his work and knowledge base helped to make this my best day Of the week! Thanks, man!

I’ve only rented a paddle board from them and would like to try their yoga classes one of these days. Their boards are cute and the rentals are cheap.
It’s my goal to purchase a paddle board from them by the end of this year.

Yep. Five stars. Sara was the bomb. This is dad approved. I took my wife and two athletic daughters down to Mission Bay and we had an awesome time. All the instruction needed, especially for Mom who doesn’t go in for this athletic stuff. Perfect environment. Good equipment. On time and the price is right. Plus she took all the pictures we wanted and sent to us on the same day. If it gets better than this, I’m sure it would have to include a meal and a massage.

We came here on a Fourth of July weekend and this place had boards available when no other shop did. The customer service was great; it was a windy day and none of us had paddle boarded before, so the lady allowed us to try it out in the water first before we needed to agree to pay for an hour’s rental. She was very courteous and gave us a full run-​through of how to paddle board before the experimental stint on the water and emphasized that we didn’t have to pay for an hour if we felt like it would be too windy and not enjoyable. Will definitely be coming back. Prices were very reasonable too, $ 20 for an hour.

I have taken two SUP Yoga classes, one with Sara and the other with Laura. Both have been a great experience =) I regularly practice yoga, but being able to do so on a paddle board in the bay is so calming and relaxing. You really start feeling more integrated in nature. You paddle board out to a designated area near a bridge and near the shore, drop your anchor, and the instructors lead you into your yoga practice. Then the last 15 minutes of class, you get to play around with more advanced poses. I was able to complete crow pose and attempt a headstand (only completed a half headstand)! The nice thing is if you fall, instead of hitting the ground, you just fall into the water. Both Sara and Laura are very friendly, and helped my first-​time paddle boarding friends. I went out just this week (June 24) and was able to see a bunch of baby stingrays!
Tips:
— look for the Paddle Board Bliss van; that is where the instructors and participants meet up. Paddle boards and handles, anchors, and life jackets are distributed from the van.
— they allow dogs to paddle board with you in San Diego and Newport Beach (not Laguna Beach). I am definitely taking my boston terrier out there next time!

This morning was my first time ever doing stand up paddleboard, and definitely my first time with standup paddleboard yoga! Hana was the instructor, and she was so sweet. And as far as yoga teachers go, I really liked her. Very encouraging and very relaxing at the same time. Overall, it was super fun and I would definitely do it again.

I wish I could rate them 0 stars! Twice I have shown up for a class to find nobody in fanuel park. No call, no email, no carrier pigeon! It is annoying to take time out of my day and come to mission bay for nothing! The receptionist was rude when I complained to her about it stating, well it’s hard for is because we don’t have a location and we didn’t have your phone number! A simple, I’m sorry for the confusion would have been a better answer. Have a backup plan if you schedule with this group. I’d rent your paddle board somewhere else!

I’m extremely disappointed in this business. They advertised a price for $ 40 on their website and then charged us $ 60. When we noticed the extra charge, we tried to call them to rectify the mistake but they failed to do so. They explained their marketing mistake as a «technical issue» and then told us they wouldn’t refund us the $ 20. I just find that unacceptable and i’m almost certain it is illegal. How can they advertise one price and then go ahead and charge another? All I can say is that their customer service was worse than their marketing. It’s a shame that they scammed us because if they had been honest and fixed their mistake we would have continued to rent from them. However, they didn’t value our business and lost potential earnings over $ 20! People, trust me on this. FIND ANOTHER PLACE THAT IS HONEST AND VALUES YOU! There are PLENTY of other wonderful paddle boarding places that will accommodate you. Save yourselves the awful headache.

omgosh, can’t even express how awesome this class was.
ergg, I can’t remember our instructor’s name right now but she was amazing. Super super laid back, welcoming and spoke to you like you’ve been friends for years which is nice.
At first I couldn’t find the place. I was a little confused & had to call. So if you’re going, meet by the grass where the van is. You’ll see all the boards laying out ready for you to grab.
Thankfully, I wasn’t the only newbie as almost everyone was trying SUP for the first time.
Before we got into the water, she gave us a short very understandable lesson & some great tips and then BOOM, we were in the water.
I was nervous and excited — but mostly excited. She let us wander a bit before we actually anchored down for our yoga class so that was nice. Gave us our little fix for exploring (we also stayed within the floating marks on the water as the current isn’t so bad).
The yoga class was a bit challenging for me but a good challenge. So totally different from any other yoga I’ve taken as you have to check in more and you have more focus on your balance than usual. I fell in the water a few times: P (but don’t worry, that was just me. Everyone else made it look so easy lol)
I recommend bringing a light hat because that would have been useful during Savasana as the sun really beams in your face unless you’re laying on your stomach.
Other than that, great experience. You’ll definitely remember it.

Really really loved this on-​water experience! Yesterday was my first time paddle boarding and I’m definitely not the most experienced yogi but Hannah made this so fun and helped me push my boundaries to the next level! If you’re looking for a pretentious, competitive class, this is not the place for you. If you want to have fun in the sun and expand your yoga knowledge and strength (and possibly go for a swim) definitely try this place out.

Tried out SUP at Bliss Paddle Board last week on Mission Bay and I have to say it was pretty awesome! I used my
membership which I’ve been using to check out new activites and a am so happy it brought me here to paddle boarding. Such a great back workout and the crew at Bliss Paddle Board is fantastic, the got me and four friends all setup and on our way in no time. They were very laid back and the communication and willingness to make sure we were happy was second to none. They are definitely my new go to for stand up paddle boarding in San Diego!

I’ve just recently started paddleboarding and I am so glad I found this company. They always answer any questions without making you feel silly and the staff is always really friendly. The equipment is always in tact and clean. Plus they have yoga retreats and «stay cations» can’t wait to do one of those!

Exellent time. The instructor was awesome. Encouraging and kind. We spent 2 hrs on the water, I spent more time in the water I think. My wife never fell off. It was well worth the fee and a great memory

This was my first experience with paddle board yoga and overall I was not impressed. The instructor was very nice but we only spent about 10 min actually doing yoga…15 min of ‘try your own yoga poses’ and a 10 min Shavasana (sorry I don’t know how to spell that!). It took 20 min to paddle out to where we anchored and it was still super choppy… I was definitely not impressed.

Prior to registering to Bliss SUP Yoga weekend retreat (May 2 – 4, 2014), I had no luck finding any reviews on past retreats. I decided to register based on Bliss’s overall good reviews, the website’s retreat details, the price range (versus other yoga/​meditation retreats) and their association with The Yoga Yard (practiced there during previous SD work trip).
For under $ 600, I purchased the retreat package with non-​ocean view, private room. I believe for under $ 500, they will set you up in a shared room. Few days prior to the retreat, Taylor Chaput (one of the nicest business owners you will ever meet), emailed retreat and accommodations info. I was surprised to be set-​up for 3 days (2 nights) at a gorgeous beach house (owned by LUV San Diego Surf). I will write a separate review for LUV Surf but wanted to point out that this beach house (I had a spacious master bedroom and 2 other Bliss Teacher Training girls were sharing a separate room) included countless items for our use: towels, toiletries, cruiser bikes, laundry machines, full service kitchen, living room, wireless internet, etc. There were 3 other lovely girls participating in the retreat (including 1 who loved Bliss’s retreat in Bali) and a larger group attending teacher training. Others were booked at nearby resorts (Catamaran or Bahia) but I’m not sure if others were in beach houses too.
The retreat package included daily paddle board use, 2 yummy lunches (to-​go from local Rubicon) + fresh veggie juices, fun goodie bag (Bliss tank, popular bamboo/​trucker style Bliss hat, KIND snack bars) and transportation to different venues. Each morning (including Friday late afternoon) we met at Fanuel Park, adjacent to Mission Bay. I used my rental car but my roommates were able to bike there in about 15 minutes (Taylor kindly offered transportation too). This retreat is for everyone of all levels, from newbies to experts. I have paddled once but never experienced SUP yoga (though I do practice vinyasa weekly). It has been almost a year since I last paddled but with guidance/​tips from Dana and Taylor, I adjusted easily and returned to the SUP zen feeling I previously fell in love with. After paddling towards Catamaran Resort, Taylor led us through a mini SUP yoga session. We did not have anchors for this session but she transitioned us smoothly into each pose. I loved the challenge of balancing on the board along with the amazing feeling of practicing each pose above water. During the following mornings, we had longer sessions of SUP and anchored SUP yoga. Saturday included an afternoon hike guided by Hana (an unforgettable/​amazing yoga instructor) along Torrey Pines (one of my favorite running spots), with extra time to cool off in the ocean and even a nice meditation session. The day concluded at one of my favorite studios — The Yoga Yard’s outdoor deck for vinyasa flow (led by Hana) along with beautiful acoustic music by Wildcardpropaganda.
Overall, I LOVED this retreat. The activities were challenging but very rejuvenating and relaxing, enabling me to escape from personal life stresses, etc. I was blessed to meet and learn from Taylor, Dana and Hana. They each have carefree, relaxed and super nice personalities. They provided flexibility in the schedules for breaks and free times to relax/​explore/​etc at our leisure (meet-​ups started at 8:45am and our free evenings started around 6pm). I also became intrigued by the weekend teacher training — though they had a jam packed schedule, the girls were clearly having an enjoyable time. I really would like to attend a Bliss retreat/​event yearly and would definitely attend a SUP yoga session when I’m back in SD (or the other 2 CA locations).

I’ve had two more sessions, one with a curly haired girl that also works at Yoga6 and we also took the sunset class with Kristina. Both instructors were amazing! I had to update my review to let you know how great they were and how much they helped to expand my yoga practice! During all 3 sessions they gave us «play time» and we were encouraged to try some things I’ve never even done on land! I almost had the headstand and the arm balance was something I’ve never even been shown before in a regular class. I’m so excited to continue working on these poses on and off the water!
