Overlook at Bernardo Heights

Have been living here for 4 years now. I still stand by what I said before. It’s quiet and beautiful but lately it’s become a nightmare. Every time they do repairs or upgrades the workers leave huge messes that you have to clean up and now we have been robbed twice in 2 months. We had 2 bicycles and our scooter stolen. I don’t recommend moving here unless you want to have your stuff stolen. No wonder they require renters insurance.

I could not be more satisfied with my experience living at the Overlook. My husband and I live in one of the two-​bedroom apartments, and we have a nice balcony, fireplace, and in-​unit washer and dryer (a huge plus). The property itself has a tennis court, newly-​renovated fitness room, pool, and jacuzzi. If you’re into walking or running, there are multiple easy loops through neighboring streets, often with nice golf course views. As a tenant, we also get membership to the Bernardo Heights Community Center. The location is great, just a couple minutes from the freeway and major shopping centers and within walking distance of RBHS and BHMS. The staff is super attentive and friendly. All maintenance requests we’ve placed have been dealt with really quickly. Overall, it’s a great place to live!

My family and I live in this complex more than a year. We really like it here. Great location. Friendly staff.
A large parking lot. Fresh update barbecue area and gym. The territory has a spa area with a large swimming pool and jacuzzi. Tennis courts.
Beautiful and well maintained landscape. As residents of the appartment complex, we have access to a local community center.

Everybody is okay except Tracy, very bad attitude, she could learn from Dede.
Mike is an old fart and a bully, watch out, he will talk loudly when you ask him questions .Leo a pretentious fool.

It doesn’t get better than this. I moved into a top floor unit with water and golf course views — one word, GORGEOUS!!! It is so peaceful and serene, I feel like I live in a resort. I get to enjoy the wildlife of hawks, doves, ducks, and egrets.
The units are beautiful. I live in the one bedroom Cordoba. I have a HUGE bedroom. All of the appliances are newer and the unit is beautifully colored with paint hues of a cool beige. By far, the most attractive apartments in all of 92 128. You don’t hear many kids and I never hear the neighbor downstairs (hopefully he says the same about me).
The office staff here is absolutely the best. Malory is adorable and always so nice and happy to help. Dee, the manager, has a heart of gold. They are always sweet and I have never seen them in a bad mood. They never make you feel like an annoyance, which I am sure I can be. The maintenance staff is equally as wonderful. Mike and Leo are true professionals and they are quick and knowledgeable.
One of my favorite things here is the beautiful pool and office area. That area is so nice that I even enjoy using the bathroom (sparkling clean and smells like lavender vanilla).
Overall, I absolutely love it here. I am not sure if I will even ever move out. All my neighbors feel the same way. If you know you are looking to move, get on their waiting list and you will probably have a sweet place lined up in time. If you are from out of town, this is your place. I recommend a unit with a golf course view. They also allow transfers to other units after 3 months. 5+ stars to the Overlook.

Excellent rental in Rancho Bernardo. Located over-​looking a golf course, (hence the name,) this is not your usual stodgy RB property. The best thing about the Overlook: it is breezy and open. Because of the open space of the golf course and lots of trees, you don’t feel confined and congested in a cement box. The beautiful views give a serene feel to the Overlook.
When I was there house-​sitting and taking care of some pets, I noticed lots of birds singing and a real feel for nature there. At the pool, there were some nice, well-​behaved kids and couples enjoying a BBQ. If you don’t mind a hike up some stairs, I would recommend a top floor apartment for quietness and a nice breeze.
The office staff is friendly and capable. But the thing that impressed me so much: THERE IS A MAIL DROP at the front office for RENT CHECKS. My own stupid apartment is trying to get everyone’s credit info to pay on line so they made everybody who still writes checks to have to come up with a stamp and mail them in!!! I guess there are some decent places around that manage to treat their residents with respect and a cordiality that other places clearly lack. 5 Unilocal STARS for the Overlook.

The good:
The site is great, parking is plentiful, easy access to the freeway, lots of local dining as well and it’s in a great school district.
The bad:
The buildings themselves were built cheaply. You can hear everything the neighbors do. The upstairs neighbors sound like they might fall through my ceiling at any time. Their conversations are easily heard (can’t understand them because I don’t speak their native tongue). I can hear snoring every night of the week. This is the first place I’ve ever lived that I heard my neighbors snore. Smoking isn’t allowed in doors, but god forbid if you have a chain smoker neighbor. They can smoke on their patio, so if you don’t like the smell of an ashtray, you are forced to close your windows.
Other than thin walls, this place would be great, but thin walls really makes everything else obsolete.

DO NOT MOVE IN HERE!!! The place is cute, yes. However the walls and ceilings are crazy thin. I hear every single solitary thing my upstairs neighbors do. I get woken up every night because they wake up and walk around. I can hear them go to the bathroom, wash their hands, all of it. I can hear the neighbor across from me cough the walls are so thin. The place is not built with the tenant in mind. The parking is open, so if you come home later than 7pm you have to park far away-​which sucks if you have a child or groceries. It takes forever for maintenance to respond to an issue, sometimes a week for something very minor. I do not recommend living here.

It’s definitely a hidden gem in Rancho Bernardo! Some apartments with the golf course view are just unbeatable.

I lived at the Overlook at Bernardo Heights. 2010 – 2013. I moved out today and I have to say I am sad to go. The office staff Tasha, Dee, Mallory and Mikey are very good at what they do. Mikey was very fair when we did the walk through before I turned in my keys. As long as you do your best and don’t leave the place a total mess, he will be fair. As far as my experience living here goes, the place is very pleasant to come home to. The grounds are very well maintained. The pool looks like a pool from a resort. The neighborhood is beautiful! My husband and I walked a 3 mile loop almost every evening. We saw many regular walkers out enjoying the neighborhood like we did. Everything is within walking distance. I loved walking to the restaurants in the neighborhood. There are plenty of great restaurants to enjoy. Thank you Overlook staff. We will miss you.

I have been staying at Overlook for about 2 years now and I really love the place. The best thing is the absolutely beautiful location which overlooks a golf course. If you get an apt facing the golf course it is a great view to wake up to everyday. Other aspects of the apartment complex are also really good. Maintenance wise they are really prompt which is a huge positive. Anytime you call up to report an issue, the personnel show up in a matter of a couple of hours and fix the problem in a jiffy. The staff at the leasing office are courteous and one good thing is when you call in office hours you are usually able to reach a person easily (and not voice mail) which is not the case with many other apartment buildings. Price-​wise too it is reasonable, and they do offer good discounts from time to time on the rent. The pool and tennis court are never too crowded and well maintained. Another good thing is the almost free membership to the Bernardo Heights club whch has a couple of pools and 8 tennis courts. Only thing i wish they had is a“tot-lot/ kids play area in the complex, but if that doesnt matter to you, it is a great choice to stay !

I absolutely love living here. And the prices are actually cheaper than what they are listed as making it very affordable. The area is full of great places to eat and shop and of course the perfect neighborhood for walking. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and my apartment came with a washer and dryer that I didn’t have to pay extra for even though it was on the brochure. I’d definitely recommend checking this place out in person over looking online you just may be pleasantly surprised! :)

Did a lot of apartment shopping over last 2 weeks and there’s usually a decision you have to make between renting a place that is individually owned by someone using a leasing agent or renting from a complex where all the apartments are owned by a company.
When renting from an individual owner, I found that you have to make an appointment to come see the place, the down payment is usually higher at about one month’s rent worth, less community feel, but sometimes rent will include water/​sewer/​trash and more bargaining power on the terms of the lease.
When renting with in a apartment complex all owned by a company, there is a leasing office you can walk right into and see a model place. There are more communal activities, probably better service on issues with your place, but more set terms on price and you have to pay for water/​sewer/​trash.
I decided on looking at apartment complexes owned entirely by a company, even though the rents would probably be higher, because I liked the extra service provided by the leasing company.
Now on to my review of the Overlook. This place resides in a nice area which is overlooking a golf course and had plenty of layouts. The only one I looked at was a Mallora model and was not impressed at all. It says two rooms, but one was sooo tiny that it could barely be a baby room. On top of that, this place demanded relatively higher prices than nearby complexes, provided washer/​dryer hookups but not the actually washer/​dryer unless you pay $ 35/​month. Then at the bottom of some brochure I was given had additional costs per month if you wanted a end unit, garage, view, and some other stuff. This wasn’t worth the premium to me. When leaving the place, making a left turn onto the street may be a little tough because the hill makes a tiny blindspot.
One silver lining is that you get access to a community center nearby.
