NTC At Liberty Station Arts

Neat free monthly event! Held every first Friday. You can make a whole evening of this by having a meal at one of the numerous restaurants at Liberty Station and then carousing through the many different art exhibitions. It is very interesting ranging from canvas art, to a goldsmith, to pottery. There are so many different stops ranging from little closet sized offices to small museums. Many artists actually do their work there throughout the week. For this evening most of the galleries offered wine and cheese. There was one barrack with live music. The event was spread throughout several barracks and in the 2 hours we were there I know we didn’t see everything. Definitely worth coming back too.
Two artists that struck us:
Lauren LeVieux: evocative art technique. I loved how we all saw different things. In one work somebody would see angel wings or horses. Me? I saw oysters. Maybe I was hungry.
Monica Martin: mixed media artist. She focuses on positive messages and girl empowerment.
The San Diego Comic Art Gallery: its a gallery. It’s a library. It’s fun. Located in IDW Publishing building. IDW publishes many comics usually related to other media such as Disney, Dr .Who, Transformers, and Star Trek. Currently housing an exhibition from TMNT cofounder Kevin Eastman.

What a wonderful idea! A friend took me here last Friday eve for «First Friday,» and I really enjoyed it! I had no idea there were art studios in Liberty Station. The art I saw was really diverse and original! Next time I’ll get here earlier so I can see more.

Awesome «free» fun!!! Monthly first-​Friday evening of FREE open artist studios, galleries and performances throughout NTC Arts & Cultural District at Liberty Station. May 4 features FREE dance performances by Malashock Dance and Jean Isaacs Dance Theater, new exhibits at the Visions Art Museum, pulse gallery and Mandell Weiss Gallery, and the opening of SCOUT at Quarters D home & garden retail gallery.
