Nightclub At Andaz San Diego

Dear Mark Hoplamazian, if you’re not ashamed of what happened you’ll not to erase this from the social media. My name is Anderson Dantas and I’m here asking to please use some common sense and retrain your incompetent Andaz San Diego staff who refused to give me my money back for the not attended New Year’s Eve Rooftop 600 OVERSOLD event. I live in Los Angeles and I wanted a great place to celebrate the new year with my good friends who live in San Diego. The Rooftop 600 at the Andaz sounded perfect. Well, so I thought! I bought the tickets and so did my friends. One of them had to work on the 31^st until 9PM. Still plenty of time to go home change and enjoy the Rooftop 600 extravaganza. At 10:30PM while looking for parking we passed the hotel street and saw lines going to both sides of the entrance door up to the corners of the hotel property. I called the reception and asked «What are these lines for?» The answer I got was «To get to the event.» Then I asked «Since I have the printed tickets for the rooftop where should I go?» She replied «In line like everybody else who is still waiting to go up. We are at capacity.» Totally caught by surprise I asked her «Do you mean there is a chance we might not even go upstairs?» and she was quiet. Now extremely upset I ask her to speak to the person in charge of all this. She puts me on a brief hold comes back and tells me she’s going to have to transfer me the Food and Beverage Manager of the Rooftop 600. I did not get the person responsible but her voicemail and left a message at Charlize’s voicemail to please return my call as soon as possible to which I’m still waiting up to today (8 days). That to me shows a serious lack of professionalism already. We never got to the rooftop and our New Year’s Eve plans got ruined.
Back to Los Angeles on January 2 while on my break from work I called the hotel and was transferred to the General Manager’s Assistant Courtney who was very nice to put everything down and I asked if she could have her boss the General Manager Rusty Middleton return my call possibly after 3:30PM because I would be working before that time and could not answer my personal line at work. Sure enough he calls me at 1:58PM leaving me a message that he was there following up. I called him back after my work hours and asked what happened that night. He said he was on site and everybody was at the Rooftop and the other venues before midnight.“Other venues?!?” I asked. He replied saying the rooftop tickets on sale at
were not exclusive for the rooftop only. It could be anywhere in the hotel. I replied «I’m sorry but this is very misleading. I live in Los Angeles 120 miles away from your hotel that I’ve never been before. Do you mean if I go to
website to buy tickets for an event at your rooftop I could spend my New Year’s Eve in the restroom?» For me that is insane. If you go to a website like
all I’m looking for is the rooftop area. If you go to
you can get tickets to anywhere else in the hotel which i’m not interested. That’s actually what the W Hotel here in Hollywood did. They clearly stated on their website rooftop «x» price or lobby «y» price. Also if we knew from the very beginning their rooftop was first-​come first-​served we would not have bought the tickets for the rooftop. As I mentioned before one of my friends was working until 9 PM and there was a risk of not making it on time before capacity. I really believed I bought tickets to the rooftop only. While on the phone Mr. Middlenton was trying to look for the website’s event info but it was too late. He said it was already taken down. And he said we would be in touch. 4 days have passed by and I have not heard from him. After all this hassle I had to call my credit card and open a dispute right after I called his assistant on the morning of the 5^th day telling her «If Mr. Middleton thinks ignoring me is the right thing to do I have to do what I think is right thing myself. And since I have not heard from him for the past 5 days I have to go all social media websites like facebook, twitter and Unilocal,the local news channel 7 NBC San Diego and the Hyatt’s Corporate Office.» and hung up the phone. What a strange coincidence it was to get his voicemail to me at the end of the 5^th day at 5:13PM where he gives me his direct line again (which i already have since the last and only time he called me at the wrong time) to talk to him. Too late now. I’m here almost a week later to go up above him because I need my voice to be heard. Was it too much to ask for the money back of an event that was oversold that I did not even get to attend? In my books if someone takes someone else’s money and don’t get the provided service they were looking for I consider it stealing. I don’t think it’s right what happened and as my new year’s resolution I will never ever step my foot at your hotel.

I always have a goodtime at The Ivy.
In my opinion, the best music played is in the Underground level. It’s usually pretty bomb Hip-​Hop. There are 2 bars in there and table service is also available. The AC is almost always blaring, and I love that when I’m dancing. There are usually not that many people downstairs, but I prefer dancing by myself to music I like, rather than just standing in a crowd of people listening to music that makes my ears bleed.
The street-​level is pretty chill. It’s never that crowded. This area has the wine bar selection in it. You can get a card and purchase sample tasters of a huge variety of wines. There is also a small bar on the side.
The rooftop is usually where it’s poppin off. The majority of the bottle service takes place here. The roof pool is pretty cool, but that area is sometimes blocked off depending on how busy the place is. Watch your step though, during last year’s Comic-​Con, a guy casually walked right into the pool. he had no idea it was right under his feet. Drenched from head to toe, with his satchel and an iPad in hand. Poor Guy.
Since the Ivy is at the Andaz Hotel, you always meet interesting tourists and different business people who are staying at the hotel.
When the line isn’t ragging around the block, I will come in for drinks and dancing.

I went to the Ivy on a Thursday evening with a group of my girl friends. One of the workers Ricardo (Felix) spotted us on the street walking towards downtown. We originally had plans to go to another club downtown. It was nice to have Felix (we called him Felix the whole night, but he introduced himself as Ricardo Felix) get us into the rooftop nightclub at the Andaz. It wasn’t a busy busy nightclub, but there was a good crowd for a Thursday night.
The Ivy was a beautiful rooftop floor with a pool, cabanas, dance floor, and a bar. The staff were completely friendly. The bartenders asked me what drink I wanted and he came up with his own suggestion for me since I didn’t really have a drink in mind. It was a really tasty Tokyo Ice Tea.
If you want to go to a nightclub that has a rooftop scenery, friendly staff, and great music, come to the Ivy Nightclub at the Andaz. I couldn’t have had a better night without running into Felix. Thanks!

I really like the rooftop at Ivy, so that is where my 4 stars are going. The nightclub downstairs isn’t all that great honestly. The drinks are kind of expensive all around ($ 15 – 20 range) but I think the rooftop is worth it on a nice night out in San Diego. I definitely bring people here from out of town and they are always impressed. The staff are great too — really friendly and helpful. Smiles all around.
The only problem I have with the nightclub downstairs is that the lighting is a little off. A bit too dark at times, with nothing special to push the place over the edge into being more exciting/​fun. The guys tend to be a little grabby/​aggressive downstairs too. Maybe they think they can get away with it in the darker room?
The wine bar is actually really nice to sit and chill at the beginning/​end of night, and they have good dj’s there too. Overall, I love that this place has the flexibility of 3 different dj’s and environments to have a good time and it is one of my go-​to places for a fun night out.

As one of the older clubs in San Diego, Ivy is no longer the bright, shining star it used to be.
There is a really weird downstairs club area that feels almost like where you are punished to stay when you’ve been bad. The Gogo dancers only stay down there.
The rooftop is great when there enough people. Otherwise, it looks like a company outing. The cabanas by the pool are nice and there is a good view of downtown from the top of their (five story?) building.

This place isn’t too bad. The club is a little small and can get cramped when busy. The dance floor seems a little small but it doesn’t deter people from getting a little wild anyway. Navigation to and from the roof can be a little annoying at times.
The interior is decent, a bar a seat or two for lounging by the dance floor, spiral staircase up and down. The place is pretty dark other than the dance floor area but isn’t that the way it is supposed to be?
Overall, the rooftop is the real highlight to this club. It is a little more spacious and obviously has more too look at. That’s a completely other review though since there is a page specifically for that portion of the club, but in all honesty that is the real draw to this place.
Overall the staff is cool though, never had an issue with the people at the door, or staff in general around the club/​hotel. Everybody seemed pretty likable and courteous. So that’s a plus.
I’ve been out of the club scene for too long to say whether or not this is one of the better clubs in the area but I would suggest at least going to check out the rooftop and then decide for yourself.

we were staying at andaz for a bachelorette which gave us access to rooftop and hiphop room down under. reading the other Unilocal reviews, i’m really glad we did because i for sure would have been unhappy had i had to pay to get in, and wait around.
2 gin & tonics, and 2 malibu bay breeze = 60 dollars. vegas prices, only you’re in freaking san diego.
WACK ASS CROWD. i accidentally bumped into a guy, and he tried to use that to get ME to buy HIS ASS a drink. some may say, «maybe that was his way of hitting on you». i assure you, motherfrucker was persistent as shit, and in the end i had to tell him to gfto.
place is more like poison ivy. makes me wanna stay the eff away.

I realize that club experiences are highly subjective, and I can’t relate to many of the complaints I’m seeing in the negative reviews here. But in general, compared to other club experiences I’ve had in this area, I’m confident in giving Ivy an A-​OK rating.
Backstory — I came here because they booked Felguk, a DJ duo I’ve been wanting to see for some time now. Between seeing them here for just over $ 11, or seeing them in LA at Avalon the next day for closer to $ 30, I figured I’d use the excuse to check out a new spot and save some money. Plus, I was able to find free street parking so saved money there too!
So I show up around 11:00 with my presale ticket, and despite there being a line on both sides out the door, I’m let in right away because of my ticket and the fact that there was only one of me. I loved how hassle-​free it was to get in here.
Inside the downstairs club, it’s a pretty small space. I don’t think they even have as much dancefloor area as Voyeur, and Voyeur is also pretty small! There is, of course, a large share of floorspace devoted to tables, but it never got so crowded that I resented the intrusion on the dancefloor.
Despite the 21+ age limit, I thought the crowd here was pretty amateur. Felguk threw down an amazing set that kept me and the three diehard fans I met dancing the entire time, but everyone else seemed there to get hammered, take selfies, and generally try to be the show. By 11:30 half of the floor was already covered in spilled alcohol, taking up precious real estate for those who wanted to dance without sticking to the floor. Some clubs are really good about having roaming alcohol-​wipers, but Ivy seems to side with the «eh, whatevs» majority and leaves it alone. I get that… just sucks because there is so little dancefloor space to begin with.
Lights shows here are a little on the thin side. Aside from some flashing lights and a surprising bit of fake snow, the focus here is definitely on the music. The sound system is good, but not outstanding (and for a club nestled in a hotel, that might make sense).
I did find their photography crew to be particularly annoying, especially when I was dancing up at the front of the floor and was bumped repeatedly by photographers who were trying to get pictures of the posers on the floor. I was annoyed that with access to pretty much any area of the club from which to take pictures, two of the photogs spent a good deal of time on the dancefloor getting the way of those of us who were actually dancing.
The final straw that keeps me from being a fan of this club is that Felguk was cut off at 1:40. Whether that’s the result of some noise ordinance or legitimately good reason, none of us who came to see them were ready to stop, and the DJs themselves seemed to be annoyed at the unusually early cutoff time. We got to hear them for maybe an hour an a half; hardly enough time to showcase the set that they had probably planned for the night.

If you have friends who visiting from out of town this is a nice club to show what San Diego has to offer. I would say the décor and set it up nice. There is a beautiful rooftop if you are there when it is not raining. I would say my best advice if the weather isn’t bad at night, most rooftop club/​bars are really nice to take visitors I actually was here recently on a rainy night so it was not crowded and they still opened up the rooftop with the hot stone fire pit. I think that was key since it was pretty cold being on that rooftop.
I would have to say like any other club the drinks are pretty over priced. To be honest, the atmosphere reminds me of a Las Vegas club but not to the XS or Marquee standard. I am just saying in terms of drink prices. I guess I sound like a broken record along with the rest of the general population, but it doesn’t hurt to confirm again. Music isn’t so bad but mainly I heard EDM, which is currently how it goes. Also, careful of the stairs. I have seen some girls kinda trip up in their heels. I do enjoy the different levels. The main level upon entering is really nice. There is bar seating especially on a more tamer night.

I would typically give this place 4 stars, its a great spot, but after waiting in line and paying a cover, its worth about 3.
But if your bar tenders down stairs makes you wait 5 minutes for a drink and then serves a drunk guy who just walks up and cuts in, that’s annoying but maybe an honest mistake. To clarify the situation I interrupted the cutter pleading to the bar tender, «excuse me, I was here first»… The bar tender to my surprise barks at me, «Don’t be rude!» and shakes his head condescendingly, then discusses my «rudeness» in front of me with the cutter, and then after serving the cutter passive aggressively asks me what I want. Once I received my drinks, I second guessed myself that I may have been wrong for interrupting and tried to make peace by apologizing for the interruption, the bar tender blew me off!
If you’re okay with running your business /​customer service this way, I’m also okay with leaving you honest feedback and drinking somewhere else.

I was quite disappointed with this upscale place. The atmosphere was okay, music okay, drinks overpriced and not a super happening place on a Saturday night.
Not great people watching either if you know what I mean.
Only plus is that the décor was nice and they had a couple of super hot dancers entertaining me.
Probably not go again on my own accord.

The rooftop location is okay and all but everyone stands around talking. I like to dance! Just not my scene, but if you want to feel fancy and bring friends or a date here for drinks and the view, you might like it.
Then there’s Envy, the club where there is dancing. I don’t know, it was just okay to me, too. I think the name and idea of this place make it seem all premium because the rooftop area and club are part of a nice hotel but even coming here numerous times, I’ve always had an «eh» time and gone to other spots in the Gaslamp to have more fun.
Voyeur, Fluxx, Analog and Vin de Syrah all seem much more lively and enjoyable to me.

Dear Ivy,
You’re lots of things, however, you are not a club in New York, Las Vegas or even LA. You are a club in San Diego. Accept it. Adjust to it. And maybe you’ll survive (unlike your hotel).
A line outside to generate interest (when there’s nobody inside). Really? What is this, 1995? Hire some models to show up at opening time, then the club won’t be empty as you open each night. See how that works…
As to the bouncers: you try and manhandle me like you did to someone standing near me (even though she didn’t appear drunk or disorderly), I will get the police involved and press charges. I’m still paying off my law school loans, I know (very well) how the system works.
I will say that I did enjoy the overall look and feel of the rooftop area. Also, rethink your drink prices (again, this isn’t NY or LV).

It’s where your dignity goes out the window… and crashes on the Gaslamp sidewalk below.
It’s a big nightclub. Lots of levels, lots of people to look at. But it’s really a miserable experience.
It all starts with the line. Despite being on the guestlist and arriving at 9pm (just as the club was opening), we were forced to stand in line for 30+ minutes. It was pretty obvious that the club is trying to create an aura of fake exclusivity, and I wasn’t impressed. (Don’t nightclubs understand that they would make *more* money if they simply let people inside instead of making them queue up outside an empty venue?)
Once I had jumped through the necessary hoops with the doorman, I finally made it inside. I barely had one minute to admire the space when some big burly bouncer dude accosted me, grabbed me by the arms, and pushed me aside because I was «standing the wrong place». I guess politeness isn’t a personality trait that Ivy looks for in its staff.
The rest of the evening was… typical Gaslamp. There are three levels (the lounge level where you enter with no discernible theme, the basement level with mostly hip-​hip music, and the rooftop level with poolside cabanas and a tiny dancefloor with EDM). The rooftop easily has the nicest atmosphere, with sweeping views of the city. However, most of the action is in the basement, where blondes in slinky heels dance shoulder-​to-​shoulder with spikey-​haired boys in button-​downs. The crowd could’ve just as easily been Stingaree or Fluxx. Gaslamp clubs all feel the same to me.
As for the drinks… On the night I was there, beers were $ 7, and well drinks were $ 11. My gin and soda was *very* weak. I couldn’t taste a drop of gin in it. Fail.
I really should’ve gone to Rich’s instead. Or, better yet, made myself a cocktail at home.

The Ivy Nightclub has two faces. During the day its entrance floor is an elegant wine-​tasting bar. As the sun sets, the venue reveals its more wild personality.
The ENTRANCE FLOOR plays a lot of old-​school pop songs. For lively dancing and some good drunk fun, head DOWNSTAIRS where the real action is. The dance floor awaits your sizzle! I can’t say it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by clubs in LA?

I’m not really much of a nightclub person, but I came here for a friend of a friend’s birthday, which oddly enough we never saw anyway.
We paid $ 20 a piece (1 boy, 1 girl) to get in… pretty steep, but this is the only club I’ve been to in San Diego. I haven’t paid a cover like that anywhere, including LA or Vegas. Aren’t girls always free?
Anyway, it didn’t stop there. Cocktails were $ 12 a piece. They paid top 10 pop music (is that typical?), and of course there were young, slutty women making out in dark corners all over. Hey, I’ve been there, but now I’m «old» and I just wasn’t into it.
I guess there’s a pretty sweet roof, but there was a line so we never made it up.

Im just gonna come out and say it, I love Ivy!
Came here to celebrate my homegirls birthday. I was able to put 15 people on the list so cover was free for everyone. Bottle service was $ 275 per bottle and/​or $ 350 per Premium Bottle. Since you’re only allowed 6 people per bottle, we would need 3 bottles, not including tax and 20% gratuity.
Pro’s about bottle service, you get a place to sit and you have your own space. Cons: limited to one alcohol type drink the entire night.
The music was poppin, the crowd had a good vibe and the atmosphere was very chill. I like the layout of the club especially when there’s room to walk around and wander off. The crowd was diverse and there were plenty of beautiful women everywhere you looked. Had a great time and definitely looking forward to coming back soon.

We came for 2 reasons… to force my husband into having a new experience for his bday. And this was a shockingly new experience for hiim!
2^nd reason… our friend Jason Whitemore was playing sax to the DJ (his name was Chris i believe)
Also for added entertainment there were these 4 girls «acting» out an even weirder interpretation of a teaparty in Wonderland (which was the theme that night)…

Firefighter go go dancers? Sure whyyyy not. hahaha this place is hugeeee compared to most clubs. Their dress code is strict though. Came here on a Saturday night to celebrate my friend’s birthday. Minus one star for not letting my friend in and having so many stairs. lol alcohol + stairs + heels = not a good thing.
The DJ that night was pretty good, mixing house and hip hop songs. kinda random but it worked lol Overall we had a good time minus it being a little crowded on the bottom dance floor. Too bad I didn’t get to see the rooftop so I guess that means I’m coming back soon the next time I’m in San Diego!

We arrived around 11pm and was still in line at 12:45pm. Not only that, but cover was $ 20. There was no effing way i was going to wait for almost 2 hours and pay.

WOW. By far the worst club I’ve been to in SD. If you want to use your $ 20 cover’s worth, don’t come here.
The bouncers: Douchebags, they some how have god complex and think we’re lining up to pass the gates of heaven. They think they are the hottest shit ever, so rude, unfriendly and just straight up douche. How can you even amount to anything? You’re a bouncer… as your career. Have some more ambition ass.
They weren’t letting anyone in 15 minutes til 11pm just cause they want to make that cover higher (20 instead of 10). We finally get in, tried to go upstairs with the long ass line to the elevator… they close it down because it was «full» (yeah, sure). We left, went downstairs, had several drinks, dance, and tried again to go upstairs, got to the elevator and the douchebag bouncer said it was closed, and it was only 1am. The other guy was like Why are you guys wasting your time in line. DUHH WE PAID $ 20 COVER TO GET IN HERE ASSHOLE. Idiots. Go back to the downstairs dance floor, and they closed the clubs, last call and started kicking people out at 1:15AM!!! WHAT CLUB DOES THAT?! I know other clubs in Gaslamp starts kicking people out at 1:30am, but 1:15…come on now. How shady can you be?
Drinks are ridiculously priced. They trying to be Vegas. $ 13 for a shot of goose. Beware, they will eat your money away.
For a nice, high class, classy, nice décor club, this place is OVERRATED and full of employees who think they work at XS or TAO in Vegas. Get over yourself. You aint gonna be young forever.

Alright, that was really lame but I couldn’t resist. As another reviewer put it, this is the place «where the [euro] trashy go to feel classy.» They were very entertaining to watch to say the least…
Steve Lawler + a sunny San Diego rooftop w/​progressive house music = PRICELESS. Drinks were extremely pricey but worth it considering the posh artist and venue. Fantastic venue and progressive house (which is hard to find). I’m in heaven.
So, when’s the next pool party?
