New Smile Dentistry

Been meaning to write a review for this place for a while, still think about the terrible experience I had with them from time to time so decided to finally do so. I too had the guy come in to my work place selling whitening coupons. I bought one and arranged going in for the process of getting my whitening trays made. First off, they sit me down in an examination chair, alone with an intern or student (not sure which) and have her take my x rays. She is incapable of taking them correctly and pumps my head full of around fifteen x-​rays before an experienced hygienist comes in and does them quickly. Each xray is like a full day in the sun worth of radiation, so they gave me a full two weeks worth due to their carelessness. After the xrays, they leave the same rookie to take the imprints for my whitening trays. She fails twice before, once again, an experienced hygienist comes in and does it in one try. So basically they used me as a practice guinea pig for their dental student. After this whole debacle I come back days later for my trays. Then I start getting nonstop calls from their receptionist trying to schedule me for an appointment. I told them repeatedly that I was at work and didn’t have my dental insurance sorted yet and I’d call them if I wanted to make an appointment yet I’d still receive a few calls a week. Finally I told them I need them to stop calling me and the receptionist cut me off, started over talking me and told me that’s all I needed to say. Like my repeated statements that I’d call them when my insurance was ready and that they were interrupting my work day wasn’t feasible enough of an indication for them not to call me. Thank god, they finally stopped calling! My insurance was soon in place afterwards and I’m gladly seeing a different dentist. What really pissed me off is how many damn xrays they took, when all I wanted was a teeth whitening! If you get some random person trying to sell you that coupon, keep in mind it’s a trap to lure you into an examination, xrays and to make you an unwitting test subject for interns!

I bought a ‘coupon” for a professional teeth whitening for the amount of $ 64.99, which entitled to a session of teeth whitening. I made an appointment, and I went. First they took xrays, then a doctor «check my mouth». He claimed that I needed work, that I needed deep cleaning, fillings on several cavities and therapy for my gums, for the total of $ 1120.00.
I have been seen the same dentist for more than 30 years and I trust him completely. This office is just trying to get money from the consumers. I decided not to even go back for my «teeth whitening» special.

A strange young guy in a set of blue dental scrubs entered through the side door of my office and proceeded to wander around trying to sell whitening services for this dentist.
When I asked if he was here to see someone, he kept walking through my office saying he was here to see «people».
I called the dentist’s office to let them know and Caroline is supposed to follow up with the marketing company they have doing this promotion for them.
It is not OK to send salespeople out to wander through private businesses office space, and to sidestep when asked what they are doing there. This kid had the guts to continue to try to sell the whitening as we were asking him to leave.

Not the best place I’ve been. Their prices are way to high, also the office space isn’t in great condition. I won’t go there again.

I have used this office for 2 years, and during that time always have had issue with the front girl rayann. She does not give the information she over talks and they wont bill you then send you final notice and she recites a script. I liked Dr Karnakova, i was frustrated many times as the hygienist always changes, people do not listen to what you say and Ive had enough. Im tired of the extra costs and the office staff and unprofessional hygienist so i am going else where. if you want to be charged extra and even have your insurance tell you they are overcharging and that is not something that they submitted and their accounting does not make add up then go here otherwise choose somewhere else. not worth the headaches.

In every field, it is very hard to find a professional who goes above and beyond your expectations. I am happy that I found Dr. Karnakova because she is a professional of extraordinary qualities that set her apart from other dentists that I have known. Before I was referred to Dr. Karnakova, I had visited many other dentists in San Diego. I was very dissatisfied with their services and already lost hope in finding a good dentist. Dr. Kankakova is not only an exceptional dentist but is also an artist when it comes to cosmetic work. When I had root canal done in my front tooth, I learnt that I have to do a crown to cover my tooth. I was extremely worried and horrified because I could not imagine a crown to look like a natural tooth. Dr. Karnakova spent so much time with me to make sure the crown looks exactly like a natural tooth! She seriously went above and beyond and I am very happy with the product of her work.
Special thanks to Carolina who is also very caring and professional and does excellent job! Since doing my crown, I returned to Dr. Karnakova several times and received the same exceptional service. I will certainly return to their office for any future dental work! Highly recommended!

I was able to make an appointment right away. The waiting room is a little retro, made me smile. I personally loved my experience with Dr. Olga, I felt like she was efficient, skilled, and had good bedside manner. I was surprised to see some other reviewers stated that they felt pressured into making further appointments for cavities, and those reviews all seem to have come from some sort of Groupon for teeth whitening. I definitely felt the opposite of pressured. They have very modern imaging equipment and Dr. Olga patiently showed me all my cavities and showed me how they were different from healthy teeth. She also showed me how these teeth were «sticky» when you poked them with her cleaning instrument, unlike all my healthy teeth. She let me know that none were serious yet, and just advised that I get them filled before they became a problem. I would definitely use her again, especially for the free ultra-​modern x-​rays that come with a cleaning. Even if I choose not to get drilled here, I still feel like I got much better documentation than I’ve received from other dentists. I haven’t gotten any cavities drilled yet, so can’t report on that.

Very nice staff. Professional and warm. Cleaned my 7 year old son’s teeth and everyone was so sweet and kind to him. They showed him how to floss and gave him a goodie bag of dental items when he left. The woman at the front desk made a copy of his xrays so he could show classmates. He felt completely comfortable with the entire process.
The office is very clean, open and bright with natural lighting and in a very accessible location.
Pricing was discussed upfront.
There was a lot of paperwork as a new patient, but otherwise, it was a breeze. I highly recommend this office for children as well as adults.

Dr karnakova was so great! She was gentle, caring, professional, and a perfectionist which is exactly what you want when your smile is on the line! The rest of the staff was just as friendly and great. Ryanne at the front desk went above and beyond to make sure i had a great experience and helped to make all the billing and insurance craziness easy and comprehensible. Thanks guys!

This is probably the first dentist i have ever enjoyed going to! The staff is fantastic and very knowledgeable. Along with this they do their absolute best to keep you comfortable and pain free with any kind of appointment. I recommend this dentist to anyone and everyone!

Just went there yesterday and Ann was extremely gentle with me and made sure there wasn’t any pain. They didn’t rip me off like most dentists andwould highly recommend this place

I’ve had a lot of dental work done and been to many dentists over the years. Not just in San Diego, but in other states to include Maine, Mass, New York, South Carolina, Georgia and also while over seas with the marine corps. Other dentists have done root canals, implants, and cavities. Others have done cavities that came out and also cavities that were too high causing pain during bites. So having experienced every type of dental work you can imagine how much i hate going to the dentist; however, Dr. Karnakova’s makes it as painless as possible and does an amazing job. Her cavity work looks great and i have never had one fall out or cause pain after the fact. Most recently one of my wisdom teeth started to hurt, Dr. karnakova clearly explained all my options, but we decided that it was finally time for me to part with them. I was able to schedule an appointment on following Saturday when an oral surgeon, Dr Needle, would be at her office. On a Saturday, Perfect! Didnt need to take any sick days! It wasn’t long before my friends and family shared all their horror stories from when they had their wisdom teeth pulled. So naturally scared, I called and spoke to Dr. Camhi who explained the entire procedure and answered my questions, more importantly he was able to convince me that local anesthesia was better the putting me to sleep. The entire procedure took 30 minutes, I showed up at 2:15 and drove home myself at 2:50. Didn’t feel a thing and was able to listen to my music via head phones during the operation. It was also clearly explained what exactly I had to do post operation. I highly recommend new smile dentistry!

The office staff is awesome! Rayanne went above and beyond to make sure that I was well taken care of after my veneer. The office is very efficient: I am always seen on time, reminded of my appt. with texts. Besides that, Dr. Karnakova is so incredibly nice as a person (she gets an A+ for chair-​side manner), and does great work. They told me the prices BEFORE the services were performed (I found this helpful). I have only seen my uncle’s friends from dental school my whole life, so this was my first stranger encounter… and I was very pleased!
PS I never feel pain when she injects lidocaine, PPS For as much cosmetic work as she does, she is not pushy and does not make you feel badly if you don’t want to have cosmetic procedures done.

I wound up here like most others, through some teef whitening dealie.
The first appointment consisted of x-​rays and quick exam and the making of teeth molds for the trays. I really thought this whole thing included a cleaning but, no it did not. Although they were not pushy at all, they did say I needed a cleaning and they could do it for only $ 100. That’s pretty pricey for just a cleaning, so I opted out and instead will go to my own dentist.
The staff is nice and quick. I didn’t really deal with Dentist Karnakova much but, the few minutes I did, I could tell she was quite experienced and knowledgeable. She seemed a lil busy and because she knew I was just there for the whitening, she mostly did not want to waste her time.
The attitude and prices are of a nice upscale place but, the décor is straight from the late eighties. For everything to be in sync it really, really needs revamping in there.
According to some reviews, some people felt they were ‘tricked’ because Olga may have said they needed filling or something. But, I will say that she looked at the x-​rays and gave me the exam and said i was fine. The only thing she recommended is that I get a cleaning before so the whitening will work better and my teeth will look nicer. I can’t argue with that. I in no way felt cheated, swindled or lied to.
Overall, quick and efficient. If my dental plan included going to them, i would not be disappointment.

I have been going to Dr. Karnakova for almost two years and I have been extremely happy in my experience with the New Smile Dentistry team! I was introduced through the teeth whitening promotion. Dr. Karnakova and Dr. Camhi were very welcoming, professional, and personable.
The x-​rays are immediately shown on the screen in front of you and I liked when they gave me a detailed explanation of what to look for in the x-​rays. Dr. Karnakova pointed out some of the darker spots on my teeth where I had some cavities. She took care of them and I have been to her 3 times since then, for a regular cleaning, and have not had any further cavities.
Dr. Karnakova is always so friendly, caring, and funny. Her and her staff are always having a good time at work and also making sure I am comfortable and taken care of. They put a pillow under my head, protective glasses on my face, and she continues to ask how I am doing during drilling to make sure I am relaxed and doing well.
I have referred multiple friends from work and others to Dr. Karnakova and I always hear positive feedback from them.
The only thing I can think of that may bother a new patient, would be that the first few visits tend to be a little long. But, they are also very fun and informative. I am so happy I found a dentist I want everyone to meet! And, I think if you give her a chance you will really be happy in the long run.

This is a tough review to write for me… because I have had very different experiences over time with Olga.
She’s an amazing dentist and she’s very caring for her patients. She first helped me out with an after-​hours emergency extraction. I was uninsured at the time and she really helped me out wonderfully in a time of dire need.
The experience then went downhill slowly over time. The quality of her work never wavered, but whenever I needed to reschedule or postpone work due to a busy schedule or budget issues, I started getting the guilt trips.
Her staff lacks professionalism and friendliness, namely Rayanne. My last experience with the office had Rayanne copping an attitude with me over the phone because I needed reschedule a basic cleaning due to a hectic schedule at work.
There seems to be some continuity issues with her assistants. My last few appointments had a different assistant each time… and each time, Olga was giving instruction during the work being done. Hour-​long appointments were taking an hour and a half, sometimes two hours. I felt like a test subject.
Three years ago I would have given Olga 5 stars. I recommended her to co-​workers. I just ran out of patience with all the other stuff. Again, her work is great. Her office’s vibe and staff have become horrible.

First I’d like to say, WOW! Dr. Olga Karnakova is the absolute BEST dentist that i have ever had (and I’ve had some good ones). She and her staff where all great, welcoming, and fair. I had a very serious procedure done that was painless, even comfortable! She took her time and worked with me to find the best and most efficient way to save me money and time. Dr. Karnakova is not like the rest of the dentists out there that do the bare minimum and charge as maximally high as possible, who don’t care about the patient, and only care about their profits. She puts her patients first and is and is extremely meticulous in her beautiful work. What more could you ask for?

Let me start off by saying if you go to her or are thinking about going to her: BEWARE!!!
I have a regular dentist but this guy came in to my work with $ 60 teeth whitening coupon thingys — so I got one. Made an appt. with Dr. Karnakova and she and the staff were all very nice and polite. Found out I got a free exam and x-​rays, which I initially thought was great — but that’s where they get ‘cha!
Dr. Karnakova said she saw 3 CAVITIES, which I initially didn’t believe b/​c I had just seen my dentist last year and I take impeccable care of my teeth. I felt like she was pressuring me to make an appt. for a cleaning and drilling which ran about $ 700, she kept telling me I had all this decay in my mouth and the whitening wouldn’t work as well. I declined and went to see my reg. dentist. He found no cavities, just a little pocket of bacteria under a current filling which he drilled very quickly (no numbing required) and didn’t even charge me for. I called Dr. Karnakova’s office back and although she was unavailable, the receptionist told me she could’ve been suggesting preventative drilling.
PREVENTATIVE DRILLING??? Okay so you’re going to tell me I have decay when I don’t, and charge a College student w/​o insurance $ 700 to drill perfectly healthy teeth?! Way to dig me deeper in a hole so you can afford your new Benz ya bitch!

I can’t believe there are not already reviews for Dr. Karnakova at New Smile Dentistry… she is the best!!!
So, one day at work, this guy came in selling one of those teeth whitening deals, which for some reason, I decided to take advantage of. It was only $ 60 for $ 700 worth of services, and I figured there was a catch, but figured I’ve spent $ 60 on much worse, so… why not.
I made my appointment and was seen like 2 weeks later. I got a complete consultation, xrays, cleaning and then we did the molds for the teeth whitening gel trays. They printed out a sheet with all the services I needed and the prices. I couldn’t believe that they were also giving me a discount on all the work I needed done (I think it was like 20−40% off) because I’d signed up for the deal! They weren’t pushy about anything; they just explained everything to me in the order of importance. I was also ordered to grab a ton of goodies on the way out: toothbrush, paste, floss, mouthwash, etc. Love the freebies!
I went in a week later to get my trays and gel, but unfortunately, the tray fit was a little off, so they re-​molded my teeth and I got a new tray a few days later for free! They actually noticed it didn’t fit quite right, and instead of ignoring it and pushing me out the door, they offered to do the re-​mold. What customer service!
Since then, I have had multiple cleanings, fillings, and some other random dental work. Dr. Karnakova is extremely gentle and very sweet. She listens to you and makes you feel comfortable. I have recommended New Smile Dental to everyone I know. They are the best!!!
